A/N: Hello again, guys! Welcome to the next chapter in our story. This chapter was pretty long, and I was considering to make it a two part chapter, but then I thought I'd treat you guys. This is my last chapter as a free person before I go to college. As the title suggests, some characters will be 'schooled', out matched, and utterly defeated. After all, it shouldn't have just been Super Boy in this chapter. There will be old enemies and new ones. My internet sucks, which is why this wasn't updated yesterday.
Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom or Young Justice.
Mount Justice – August 3
Alice was sitting quietly in her room, examining the bullet wounds on her body and sighed softly. "At least they're healing right. Good thing they weren't traced with poison," she mused out loud as she put her shirt down. She looked up and noticed Danny standing in the doorway with his arms crossed.
"So you did get hurt on that mission," he stated as he came in, much to the displeasure of Alice.
"Coming into a girl's room without her permission…I think Gotham's changed you," Alice teased. Danny let out a small chuckle as he sat down next to the girl on her bed.
"It's different from Amity. This whole entire situation is different," Danny said as he narrowed his eyes in thought.
Alice remained silent for a few seconds before speaking barely above a whisper, "Do you ever wonder where you'd be? If you hadn't come to Gotham?"
"You can't change the past…But I think I'd still be in Amity. With Sam and Tucker…" He trailed on, thinking about it. "But I'm glad I did…Come to Gotham, I mean. Otherwise your dad would have still controlled you," Danny said with a small smile.
Alice responded with a smile of her own before standing up suddenly, making Danny jump slightly out of surprise. "School is starting this month, and we didn't even get to set off fireworks!"
"You're right…Our Fourth of July was kind of hectic," Danny said with a raised eyebrow.
"We should set some off!" She yelled excitedly, Danny stood up with a nod. "I'll go to town to go get some!"
She started to run out of the room, but then stopped when something suddenly popped up in her mind. She then turned towards the halfa with an apologetic smile, "Sorry if I've been acting like a total loser lately."
Danny was caught off guard by the sudden apology and nodded. She winked at him, signaling the end of the conversation and disappeared into the air itself at that moment. Danny heard a grunt of frustration and heavy footsteps coming down the corridor. Curious, he followed the steps and noticed Super Boy coming down the hallway, looking as angry as ever. "Super Boy? What's up?"
"Superman…" He said, but that's all Danny needed to hear as he scrunched his eyebrows.
"Super Boy…I know you might be surprised at this…But I don't have a mentor either," Danny said as he stood next to the muscular boy, trying to calm him down.
Super Boy raised his eyebrows in surprise, "…Really?"
Danny nodded his head, "Everything I know I had to learn by myself…It might seem bad at first, but it will get better. After all, the only one who can know their own strengths is that person themselves."
"Thanks…Danny. You managed to cheer me up…Even though you made me feel totally exiled in the process," Super Boy teased as he let out a small grin.
"What are friends for?" Danny cockily asked as he placed a hand on Super Boy's shoulder.
"Super Boy! Danny!" M'Gann called from down the hallway, "Black Canary is here. She'll be training us, so we had better get to the training room!"
Alice walked on the street, her search for fireworks was ending in disaster. "Heavy on the dis," she mumbled to herself, thinking how Robin was rubbing off on her. She was in her civilian attire and she sighed upon realization that fireworks might have been sold out.
"Well, I wasn't expecting to see you here…Of all places," came a low gruff voice from behind her. Alice froze suddenly at the voice, she had known it all too well. She quickly formed a water dagger in her hand and thrusted it forward as she suddenly turned around. Only for a hand to suddenly catch her fore arm, making her sudden assault to be halted.
"Sin…" Alice said in a dark tone. She narrowed her eyes as she stared into his black, pupil less eyes. His white hair was spiked and he was wearing a suit.
Sin twisted his face into a frown, to show his 'mock hurt', "Is that anyway to treat a dear friend of yours?"
Alice growled as she evaporated her arm out of his grip, much to his surprise as he clenched his fist to grab the air gently. The girl backed up, deciding if she should run, or fight. "Last time I checked, I told you to stay the hell away from me," she said with her eyes narrowed.
Sin clicked his tongue as he took a step towards the girl in front of him, "You say the sweetest things…"
"What do you want?" She hissed as she summoned a water scythe in front of her. She had it in both hands, as she took a step towards him.
"Oh, that looks sharp," he said as he grinned. "I don't want to fight you, sweetheart."
"Funny. I've been itching to get back at you from the last time you kidnapped me," she growled out as she took a swing at the boy in front of her. He had disappeared suddenly, and wasn't in the same spot as before. Alice took a glance around the area and then spotted him on a rooftop. She threw the water scythe at the building, much to the surprise of the boy. He ducked to avoid the sharp hurdling weapon directed at him.
He slowly stood up with a grin, "That could have killed me."
"Don't you think that's the point?" Alice rhetorically asked as she summoned a water geyser below her so it could take her up to the same rooftop as the boy. She jumped off the water torrent and landed on the rooftop with ease.
Sin clicked his tongue, "Last I heard you turned to the side of good. Wouldn't they be surprised once they saw the corpse on the ground?"
"We both know you can't die, so there's no harm in giving you my all, right?" Alice asked with a smirk as she rose her hand above her head, and the cloudless sky that was above her started to gather rain clouds. With a crack of thunder, there was a heavy rainfall. "So, why don't you get serious too? Where's your mutt?"
Sin let out a disapproval scowl, "I didn't want to use my familiar…But I suppose I have no choice. I can't take you without a fight…" Sin snapped his fingers and a small white wolf appeared out of a dark portal that was red. "I didn't want to have to do this to you, Alice."
"I've been dreaming for the day I get to take you down," Alice responded as she charged towards the boy with two newly formed water swords in both of her hands.
Jazz walked into the break room with a sigh, in the short span of a couple of months, she had progressed far with some of the inmates, but it took a lot out of her. She sat down and poured herself some water as Dr. Flowers looked at her with a smile.
"Tough day?" He asked as he flipped a page in the newspaper.
"You have no idea. I feel like I'm making some great progress though," she said as she took a sip of her water.
"That's good to hear. You've come far, Jazz. You just might be the best psychologist we have in this place," Dr. Flowers complimented as he looked up at her.
"Coming from you, that means a lot," she said with a smile.
Suddenly there were alarm bells and a red light popped out from the ceiling, Jazz looked up at the flashing lights with a foreboding feeling. Dr. Flowers glanced over at her and sighed.
"This is your first break out? It happens more often than you would think," he said with a sigh. He then stood up and walked over to a security panel by the door. "In situations like this, it's best just to lock ourselves in this room and wait for help to arrive."
As he was about to press the button, the door crashed down, making the two of them look at the intruders. The Joker, Poison Ivy, and Dr. Harleen were poised at the entrance. The Joker walked in and headed straight towards Jazz.
"So you're the flower I've been told so much about," he said with a wide grin. He grabbed the girl's face, much to the surprise of the girl. She tried to get out of his grip, only for his grip to become stronger. She closed her eyes and tried not to scream. "We're going to have…So much fun, little flower!"
"One robot with all the powers of the league?" Robin asked in amazement.
"Yes. It took the League 4 hours to destroy it. We have separated its parts into two trucks, while four other decoy trucks will be there to throw off any pursuers," Batman said, his face on the screen with the Team was waiting patiently for other instructions.
"I'm worried about Alice…" Danny trailed on as he crossed his arms.
Batman and the Team grew silent, before Batman spoke again, "I understand your concern, but this mission can go on without her. Now, you will be placed into two teams…"
"Sweet! Road trip!" Kid Flash yelled in excitement.
"So now we take out your trash?" Super Boy asked darkly.
"You have something better to do?" Batman asked rhetorically. Super Boy glanced down at the ground. Danny put a comforting hand on his shoulder, in which Super Boy let out a small smile of thanks.
"Coordinates received. We are on our way," Aqualad said as he ran out of the room, the rest of the Team joining him, except for Super Boy, who got held back by Black Canary.
"When you're ready, I'll be here," she said with a smile. Super Boy glanced down at the ground, he knew she was talking about his past failures in the training room.
Three trucks departed on one side of the road, while the other three at the other end. Super Boy, Robin, and Phantom were on one team, while Miss Martian, Aqualad, and Kid Flash were on the other team. They were all driving motorcycles, much to Danny's pleasure.
"I've never rode one of these before!" Danny yelled excitedly at Robin as they were following the trucks.
"Overwhelmed?" Robin teased as he grinned at his foster brother.
"You have no idea," he said with a smile as he shifted gears on the bike. It jolted, before taking off faster, making Danny grin with amusement. "It kind of feels like flying!"
"I have a question…If like is the opposite of dislike…Then is aster the opposite of disaster?" Robin asked, as he shifted the bike so he could talk with Super Boy and Danny. "See, instead of things going wrong, they go right…"
Silence filled the air, it was so thick you could cut it with a knife. "Clearly you guys aren't feeling the aster…What's wrong?"
"Canary…" Super Boy said as he narrowed his eyes. "What business does she have teaching combat skills to a guy with super strength?"
Danny and Robin took a second of silence. Then Danny answered with a grin, "Remember how I said you were your own teacher? Well, sometimes you have to take pointers from others to improve your own style."
"Excellent point, Daniel," came a voice that Danny hadn't heard in a few months, and he had never wanted to hear it again. The three of them slowed down, almost ruining their chance to follow after the truck. Danny felt a shiver run through his spine but tried to not let it show. There he was, Vlad Plasmius in all of his egotistical glory smirking down at them. He was in the middle of the road, and proved to be a road block.
"Phantom, who is this guy?" Robin asked, as Super Boy let out a growl.
"He's someone I can handle. You guys go on, we don't want Batman yelling at us because I had decided to ruin the mission," Danny reasoned, although his two teammates seemed a little hesitant. They nodded and decided to go on ahead.
"Why, I never imagined you would be riding a motorcycle of all things," Vlad said as Danny took off his helmet and got off his bike. He gave the man a glare that could rival the Batman's.
"What are you doing here, Plasmius?" He hissed out as he rose his hands, each filling with ecto-plasm. Vlad only chuckled at the action and brought out the Plasmius Maximus, to which Danny took a step back unconsciously.
"Isn't it obvious, boy? I've come to take you home," he said with a smirk.
Danny narrowed his eyes at that statement, "Are you blind? Last time I checked you had two fully operating eyes. I am home," the young halfa said as he took a step forward in bravery.
Vlad narrowed his eyes, all traces of 'funny joke around Vlad' were gone. "Not for long, Daniel," he said in a cold voice that sent shivers down his spine. The older half ghost charged at him, his hand on the dreaded device that could turn Danny back to human.
'I can't get hit by that…If I do, it's over,' he thought grimly as he too charged toward his arch enemy, his fists glowing a vibrant green color. "Not feeling the aster," Danny mumbled as his fist barely grazed Vlad's body. Vlad then took a swing at Danny, only for the young halfa to turn intangible, making the hit go right through him. Danny then turned tangible again and kicked Vlad in the ribs, sliding him back several feet.
Vlad let out a growl as he stood up to his full height slowly, "You've gotten better…Surprising," he taunted as he cracked his head to one side.
"What did you think I was doing this whole time? Eating cake?" Danny asked rhetorically with a smirk.
"Your dry humor won't be able to save you," Vlad said as he disappeared into pink smoke. Danny searched the area with wide eyes. 'He teleported, but where did he-?'
Two hands grabbed his feet from the ground beneath him. Danny looked down at the last minute, but didn't expect to be turned intangible in the process. With a quick yelp he was forced off the ground and held upside down, as Plasmius rose from the ground with a smug look on his face. "You should have expected that," he said as he had the two of Danny's feet in one of his hands, and the Plasmius Maximus device in the other.
Danny then lifted his hands up, his hands lighting up a blue color, "Chill out Plasmius, you seem a little hot on your feet," Danny said with a grin as he unleashed his ice, much to the surprise of the older halfa. In a matter of seconds, he was now a humanoid ice cube. Vlad's frozen hand slowly released Danny's trapped feet, and the boy did a little flip before he hit the ground. "Well, that was easy, time to catch up with the oth-"
"Where do you think you're running off to, Daniel?" Vlad's voice called behind him. Danny's eyes grew wide with confusion as he turned towards to the direction of the voice, only to be met with Vlad's unfrozen form, with his arms crossed smugly across his chest.
"How did you…?" He trailed as he looked back at the ice and noticed that it no longer had Vlad in it. The realization came at him like a speeding bullet, "Duplication," he grumbled out as he faced the real Vlad with a glare.
"Did you think I would take you lightly? I'm here with a purpose little badger," he said as he took a step forward, "And I won't go until I leave with what I came for."
Danny's heartbeat increased, 'How do I know if this one is the real Vlad? This could just be another clone!' Danny thought rapidly as he glanced around the area, only to find no other Vlad's. Danny narrowed his eyes, 'Stay calm, you defeated Vlad before, you can do it again,' Danny thought positively. He rose a hand and it illuminated blue, he then fired ice blasts at Plasmius. Only Vlad had seen this coming and deflected them with a pink ecto-shield.
"Come now, Daniel. You can do much better than this. Perhaps you should do that new technique? The one that got you out of my grasp the last time I had you?" Vlad taunted.
"Get off my back, Plasmius," Danny snapped as he took a step back, only to be met with another Vlad. The older halfa chuckled at the surprised look that the boy had on his face. As Danny tried to turn intangible, he was too slow, Vlad had struck him with the Plasmius Maximus, right in his side.
Danny let out a scream of agony as the lightning flooded through his body, short circuiting his powers. He felt his powers slip away, and the familiar coldness was gone. He felt himself fall to his knees in utter defeat, he had let Vlad win. "That…Was…Dirty," Danny said in between breaths as he tried to not notice the footsteps of the other Vlad approach him.
Vlad bent down and placed his hand on the boy's chin tightly. Danny glared at the man, and tried to pull away, only for Vlad's hold on him to tighten. "Sometimes you have to fight dirty to get what you want," he said with a smirk. He then let go of his head and it drooped down, the older halfa smirked at this action. "Why so glum, dear boy? You hate to lose to me that much?"
Danny lifted his head at that statement and glared at him, he then reached up to the com link in his ear, "Co-"
He was suddenly interrupted by a pink blast whizzing past his head, successfully taking out his com link. Danny growled in response as he glared daggers at the man in front of him, 'So much for an escape route,' he thought grimly.
"We don't need anyone knowing where you are. That would be troublesome," Vlad said as he grabbed the boy's arm, yanking him to his feet.
"Let go of me!" He yelled as he tried to yank his arm back, only to be electrocuted in the process. He felt his body go limp and closed his eyes at the pain. Danny screamed out at the sudden attack and felt all his energy being depleted.
Vlad then smirked as he rose the boy's arm up so that they were looking at each other. "Now that I finally have you, Daniel, your hope for freedom has gone back to zero," he said as the boy felt drowsier by the second. Danny blinked tiredly, trying to stay awake. Being unconscious with Vlad around meant bad news. "Don't worry, son. When you wake up, you'll finally be home."
"Robin, Super Boy! Our truck is being under attack!" Aqualad yelled through the com links. Robin tried to stifle the laughter that threatened to be let out.
"Kind of figured," he said as he looked up at the truck that was being attacked by green robot monkeys. He pressed a button on his motorcycle that sent the bottom half of the machine into the air, making it lighter, ultimately making it faster. "Hey, Ace, you might want to switch you bike to battle mode," he said as he looked up at Super Boy who was getting ready to jump off his bike.
"No need," he said as he jumped off the bike and landing onto the truck.
His bike flew at Robin, and his eyes went wide with the sudden surprise. "Or not!" He yelled as he had to jump from his bike and get out a grappling hook in midair. He latched onto the truck, leaving his only ride as he watched his motorcycle fade from eye view. Robin did his best to take out the ones at the back of the truck with his feet, since his hands were being used to latch himself onto the truck.
As Robin climbed his way to the roof of the truck, he pulled out two escrima sticks and began to swat the robot monkeys that were on the roof away. However, he hadn't counted on some monkeys to blow out the tires. The teen glared underneath his sunglasses as he leaned over the door window to talk to the driver. "Get out!" He ordered as the truck started to swerve uncontrollably. He saw the driver start to open the door, and the boy wonder grabbed the man by the midsection as he helped him into the corn field on the side of the road, safely out of harms way.
The truck tipped over sideways, and the robot monkeys had the box that contained the robot parts in it. They flew away, leaving Super Boy furious. Robin helped the man onto the street and put the man down gently. He had passed out from shock, and Robin sighed as he looked at his teammate. Super Boy let out a growl as he looked up at the retreating form of the monkeys. "Super Boy!" Robin yelled as he saw the teen take off after them, taking huge gaps as he lunged after them.
"This is Aqualad, we've lost our cargo," Aqualad's voice came from the com link in Robin's ear.
"Yeah," Robin said with a sigh, "It's gone. And so are my partners…Both of them."
Robin could hear something like a speeding bullet coming towards them, he turned and narrowly dodged two shurikens that would have attacked him, had he not did an immediate back flip. There was a sudden smoke screen as a figure in dark blue and a dark orange metal appeared out of the heavy smoke. The two had stared at each other as Robin took a step back. "You…" He trailed on, trying to not let fear linger in his voice. 'What is he doing here of all places? I thought the Justice League had taken care of him?'
"I have a name, boy," he said as he unsheathed his sword, making Robin's heartbeat start to race.
"Deathstroke…" He said as he took out two smoke bombs out from his utility belt.
The man eyed the two smoke bombs in the boy's hand and smirked, though you couldn't see his face to know, "The Bat has told you about me? Why don't we go a few rounds," he said as he started to chuckle as he advanced towards the boy.
"Oh look, a deadly mercenary that's on the Justice League's list of 'do not engage!' It might hurt my pride to run from a battle, but I don't have a death wish," Robin said as he threw the bombs down on the ground, earning him the field advantage. As quickly as he flew them down, Robin started to run away as he reached a hand up to his ear to activate his com link. "Robin to Batman, I-"
He was interrupted by an electric shock that pulsed through the com link as in fell to the ground in pieces. Robin was appalled at the display as he turned around and watched Deathstroke emerge from the smoke screen, as if he could see clearly right through it. "Not feeling the aster," Robin mumbled as he pulled out his escrima sticks as he twirled them around in his hands as he got them ready to be used for the battle. "You hacked my com link," Robin stated as he glared at the man.
Deathstroke swung his blade to the side and let out a hearty chuckle, "Of course. Calling for help only makes the battle that much shorter," he said as if it were obvious.
"Are you working with Ivoh?" Robin asked as he took a step back, still trying to find an opening to run away from the mercenary. "The parts to the robot are already gone. You don't have anything to fight with me for."
Deathstroke remained silent as he charged at the boy. Robin let out a quick yelp as he blocked the blade in-between the two sticks. 'Alright, he's strong…' Robin thought dryly as he tried to hold back the blade, though his muscles were shaking in his arms from using so much strength. "What's the matter? Feeling a little weak in the arms?" Deathstroke taunted as he pushed down harder. Under the pressure, Robin had to let go of his sticks, and they went flying to the other side of the battlefield.
"I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment," Robin hissed under a breath as he bent his entire body backwards to avoid a decapitating strike. He then did a backward hand stand and flipped over right side up, putting his fists up, getting ready to do hand to hand combat.
This earned a chuckle from Deathstroke as he placed his sword back into its sheath. "I am eager to see how much you know about combat," he said as he too, much like Robin, put his hands in front of him and balled them into fists. His stance shifted to a more menacing offensive one, rather than his peaceful demeanor that he just had while swinging the sword. 'As close as a deadly mercenary can get to looking peaceful,' Robin thought as he raised an eyebrow.
"Why?" Robin asked in confusion as he took another step backwards. Deathstroke noticed this and charged at the boy, a fist raised. Robin dodged to the side while avoiding the attack and countered it with a fist of his own, only for it to be caught in the man's hand. Out of surprise, Robin tried to pull it back, only for the man's grip to tighten. The boy heard a loud 'snap' and then felt immediate pain as he clenched his teeth to suppress a yelp that was about to come out. Biting back the pain, the boy used his trapped hand and lifted his body upwards, aiming a kick right into the head of the man. There was silence as the man's head snapped to the side.
"…You're a little acrobatic, aren't you, Robin?" He asked with a low chuckle as he turned his head and stared directly into the boy's sun glassed eyes. Robin's eyes widened as the man grabbed his foot with his other hand, leaving the boy in an uncomfortable position as he struggled to get away from the man's grasp. Deathstroke took this moment of fear and swung the boy around before throwing him into the corn field.
Robin landed on the dirt ground hard. He might even have broken a few ribs from the fall. 'I take that back…He's super strong!' He thought as he scrambled his body into a crouching position, taking refuge away from the mercenary. "Robin?" Deathstroke called out as Robin could hear the man stepping into the cornfield. 'I'll take this time to get away from him. I can't beat him without Batman,' Robin thought hysterically as he stealthily tried to crawl away from the man. "What's the matter? Are you afraid to face me?" Deathstroke taunted.
'Don't let him get to you…He's trying to draw you out,' Robin reminded himself as he crawled another few steps, successful without making any noise. However, as he took a step, Deathstroke took four. "Your stealth skills are impressive. You're being very quiet…" Deathstroke took another step. Robin could practically feel the man's gaze on his back. However, before he could deliver a punch, Robin rolled out of the way. Deathstroke caused a small crater in the ground, where Robin's head should have been.
"What do you want?!" Robin hissed out as he flipped over backwards, again, avoiding another punch that was directed towards his mid-section.
"What every mercenary wants. Power…Money…" Deathstroke said as he sent Robin flying backwards with a well-placed kick in the boy's stomach. Robin landed on the dirt, but did a summersault in between the man's legs when he noticed the mercenary in front of him. He grabbed two bird-a-rangs from his belt as he threw them into the man's back. The man turned around and stared down at the boy on the ground. He causally plucked the projectile weapons that were in his back, as if they were like lint on a shirt. He threw them down on the ground, blood dripping off the tips of them. "That's dangerous behavior, Robin. You have a thirst for blood, don't you?"
Robin just stared at the man with wide eyes as he tried to back away, "N-No…I was just trying to-" He said as Deathstroke grabbed him by the front of his shirt. Upon being man handled, Robin struggled furiously for the older man to drop him. He tried punching and kicking, but the man just simply swatted them away, as if they were annoying flies. "Let me go!" He yelled with as much menace as he could muster.
"You're perfect…" He said as he brought a fist up, and punched the lights out of Robin. His head drooped to the front, giving the man the satisfaction of the boy being unconscious.
Danny awoke to a poorly designed room with the colors of gold and green. 'Those colors could only mean one thing…' Danny thought grimly as his heart was being filled with dread. "No…" He said as he stood up from the bed he was on raced towards the door. He tried to 'go ghost' but he still couldn't feel his cold core. As he swung the door open, he tried to run out into the hallway, only to be met with an invisible barrier. "Geh!" He screamed as he collided with it and automatically placed his hands up to the barrier. "What the heck is-?"
"It's a DNA barrier, Daniel," came the suave voice of Vlad Masters as he came down the hallway with his hands placed behind his back. Danny hadn't failed to notice the smug smirk on the man's face as he was telling him this.
"Let me out. Now," Danny ordered as he glared at the man. Vlad only smirked more at the comment and entered the room, making Danny step a few steps back in surprise.
"You're powerless. What are you going to do? Use words as weapons?" He asked, finding the idea humorous.
Danny fisted his hands that were by his sides, "What do you want from me?" He asked in a low, dark, voice.
Vlad ignored Danny as he brushed off 'dirt' from his shoulder with his hand. He then looked up at the boy with a bored expression, "You know what I want, dear boy. Just know that this time, no one is going to save you," he said with a grin.
Danny let out a growl as he aimed a clenched fist at Vlad's face, only for the man to become intangible, making Danny fall to the ground due to the force of his punch. He dodge rolled on the ground and stood up quickly. "Gotham has made you more violent…" Vlad said with a shake of his head. "I'll have to reeducate you on how to be more…Civil."
"As if you're civil!" Danny yelled as he narrowed his eyes.
Vlad only sighed, "Since you're acting like a child, Daniel, I'll have to treat you like one. You're grounded in this room," he said as he started to walk away, much to Danny's surprise. 'If I can act this right, maybe I can gain access to the rest of the place…And then contact the Team,' Danny thought as he clenched his fists.
"Wait!" He yelled out, making Vlad pause in his footsteps with a raised eyebrow. "I'm…Sorry. I acted rashly…" Danny said looking at the ground. Vlad smirked as he crossed his arms.
"That's good to know, Daniel. However, I still haven't changed my mind. You'll have to drop the act and be sincere about it," Vlad said as he exited the room. Danny narrowed his eyes and charged at the man, only to be hit with the invisible barrier.
"Plasmius! Come back here and let me out!" Danny yelled as he banged on the barrier, to emphasis his point. Vlad glanced at the caged boy and let out a final smirk before walking away, leaving the boy to keep banging on the barrier that kept him prisoner.
"Harley, what are you doing?" Jazz asked with wide eyes as she watched her fellow colleague getting dressed in a ridiculous outfit.
Harley stopped what she was doing and then glanced at Jazz with a wicked smile, "Oh! What was I thinking…You'll need an outfit, too!"
"Stop! What happened to you? You need to come to your senses!" Jazz yelled as she took a step back.
"But…Little flower…I am sane. I'm a psychologist, remember?" Harley asked rhetorically as she slapped her hands back and forth. "All done!"
There was a knock on the door, "Are you done in there, ladies?" Came Joker's voice through the door. Jazz glared at Harley and decided to exit out the nearby window. Harley saw what was happening and let out a growl as she grabbed her legs, trying to pull her back in.
"Flower, stop! We haven't even gone out yet!" Harley yelled, "You're going to miss out on all the fun!"
"Let go of me!" Jazz yelled as she kicked the girl in the face. However, once the girl had let go of her, Jazz had an unplanned drop, as she landed onto a scaffold that was on another floor. She landed on her back and groaned as she looked up and noticed that she had dropped three stories. They were on some kind of tower. Seeing the window that was near her, Jazz punched through it, sending glass shards everywhere. Her hand was all cut up and was bleeding. She quickly jumped through the window and winced as her back started to ache.
"Jasmine Fenton?" Came a young voice. Jazz looked up and noticed Kitty and Johnny 13 on the level she was on. "What are you doing in Gotham?"
"I could ask you the same question!" She snapped back, but then felt weak on her knees as she dropped to the ground, her fist still bleeding badly.
Kitty let out a gasp as she ran to the girl and placed a hand on her shoulder, "What happened?"
"I have to get out of here," Jazz said weakly, but Kitty nodded in understanding. She lifted up the girl, placing her arm over her shoulders.
"Johnny! I'm the girl and I'm doing the heavy lifting!" Kitty complained, and Johnny 13 cringed at the complaint as he made his way over to the girl, and lifted her in his arms. Much to the scowl of Kitty.
"You complain when I don't help! You complain when I do!" Johnny complained as they made it to their motorcycle.
Jazz groaned as she was placed in between the two, "I'm here because…I work in the asylum…Where I was attacked…By my colleague."
The motorcycle came to life as Johnny revved it up, taking them off. He charged the motorcycle into the window, making the vehicle take flight as they flew away from the building. "I guess…We're here because Amity Park is so…Lonely now. The portal was destroyed, and the only working one is…" She trailed on, knowing that she didn't have to say.
Jazz weakly nodded as she looked down at her fist, it really had looked as bad as it felt, "I need…Wayne Manor…" She said as she started to pass out from the pain.
Alice growled as she found herself in the chaos realm. It was black, one wrong step and it could send you into Hell in a heartbeat. She was sitting on the only thing in the area, a red couch. She glared as she tried to stand up, only too weak and for her to fall down again. Cuts and bruises were all over her body. "When I get out of here…" She trailed on, she tried to make water form, only for nothing to appear. There was no water in the chaos realm, she should have known that from experience.
As a red portal opened up, Sin stepped out, along with Klarion who held his familiar in his hands. Alice narrowed her eyes and followed them with her eyes as they stepped closer to her on the darkness. "Why the dirty look? You used to beg me to take you into my realm," Sin said as he tilted his head with a smile.
"Get to the point," she hissed out as she clenched the couch cushion that she was sitting on, quickly losing her patience. "Why did you take me?"
Klarion eyed the girl as he sat next to her, making her clench the couch harder, her knuckles turning white. "You never used to be this way…Papa made you angry?" Klarion asked as he smirked, petting his cat.
"Brave words from someone whose father has banished him," Alice smirked back.
Klarion released an inhuman growl as his eyes turned all black. Right as he was about to lunge at the girl, Sin interrupted him by talking. "Think about it, your little…Team…Is divided at this moment. You, Phantom…Even Robin. Soon all of the members will be picked off, leaving the Justice League distracted, and the Light will then make its move."
"What's in it for you?" Alice asked as she snapped her head in his direction. "Last time I checked, you don't work with anyone, not even the little snot over here," she said as she tilted her head in Klarion's direction, making the witch boy scowl.
Sin only took a seat in the middle of the couch, making a divide between Klarion and Alice. He put his arm draped over her shoulders, making the girl cringe as she kept her head down. "That is true. However, I decided to take a seat at their table. And, with my little brother already working with them, of course it would be easy." He said as he moved his head closer to her ear. "It gives me the opportunity to watch over you…" He whispered as he watched the girl's eyes go wide.
The reaction that was shown made Sin smile as he was pushed away by the girl. "You're sick. I told you, four years ago, I was done with you," she said as she glared at him.
"Of course, of course…And I considered those words…For four years." He said with a smirk as he stood up in the black void. "Besides…Now that…Shadow boy is gone?" He asked, letting the words finally set in. He saw Alice have a pure look of worry on her face. "Who's here to stop me from finally getting what I want?"
Alice stayed quiet, but then looked up with narrowed eyes. "He isn't gone. You have no idea what you're doing," she said as she looked Sin right in his pupil less eyes. He glared in response.
"He is gone! I killed him, watched as the life drained from his damn eyes!" Sin yelled as he took a step forward in rage.
Alice smirked, "Are you sure about that?" She asked as she saw how the simple subject of 'Shadow boy' raised a riot in the half demon. "Did you watch the decomposing of his corpse?"
Sin growled in humanely as he appeared in front of Alice, gripping her wrists in his hands strongly. Klarion watched with wide eyes, never had he seen his brother lose control like that before. "I made sure he was dead. As dead as your mother," Sin said as he watched the pain flash across her face. "Don't pretend you're a saint. You're worse than me. How many lives have you taken?"
"Sin," Klarion said as he stood up. "Savage wants us," he said as he opened up a red portal, his familiar meowed in response.
Sin glanced at his brother's direction before he looked back at the silent girl. She looked lost in thought, and he narrowed his eyes at the lack of response he was getting out of the girl. "We aren't done with this conversation," he said as he walked away.
As they disappeared into the portal, she felt like she wanted to punch something, but she held the feeling inside herself. She then looked at the two extra cushions, "But first…I have some tactical planning to do," she said as she grabbed an extra cushion.
Robin woke up in an unfamiliar room. It had a bed, but that was it furniture wise. He noticed that there wasn't any windows, but just one steel door. He sighed and got up from the bed, it was then that he noticed that his utility belt was gone. He then checked to see if his sun glasses were still on, and sighed in relief when they were. "Okay. First thing, analyze the surroundings," he mumbled to himself as he eyed the walls. It hadn't looked like there were any doors or windows being covered up.
The teen closed his eyes and noticed a soft humming coming from the north-east corner of the room. He opened them and smiled softly to himself. "Ventilation shaft," he said as he looked closely to that wall and noticed a camouflaged ventilation shaft that might have been big enough for him to squeeze through. He heard the door knob start to jungle suddenly and darted his eyes to the front of the room.
"You're up, I see," Deathstroke said as had his hands behind his back.
Robin remained silent as he glared daggers into the man. Deathstroke chuckled as he entered into the room, "Cat got your tongue, boy?"
"What do you want from me?" Robin asked as he tried to not make his hands into fists.
"For now? Nothing…" Deathstroke said as he eyed up the boy in front of him, it was making Robin nervous as he shifted his weight. The teen then saw the hallway from the opened door. 'Should I make a break for it?' He thought as he narrowed his eyes in thought. "You're thinking about escaping, aren't you, Robin?"
The statement made Robin dart his eyes at the man in front of him in surprise, "Or I could be thinking of a new interior designer for this place. By the looks of things, it looks like you need one," Robin said with a smirk.
Deathstroke chuckled in amusement, "I expected a direct answer, not a sarcastic one," he said as he crossed his arms in front of him. "Go ahead and try to escape, I'm not stopping you," he said as he moved out of the direct path of the door, true to his statement.
Robin took a quick breath as he bolted for the door, only to take the side sweep of Deathstroke's legs under him, making him trip, and fall in a matter of seconds. "I thought you said you wouldn't stop me?" Robin asked in slight pain as he quickly got up to his feet.
"That was escape attempt number 1…Do try harder in your next attempt," he said, amusement lingered in his tone.
The boy wonder glared at the man who ignored his question. He then backed up slowly into the wall behind him, so he was standing next to the opposite wall to Deathstroke. He frowned as he saw he hadn't even made it three steps without the man knocking him down. 'I'm still in the same place I started from. Batman would scold me for acting rashly,' he thought as he cracked his next with a quick swipe of his head.
"Robin?" Batman asked as he put a hand up to his ear. His com link was down, because it wouldn't even connect. Bruce sighed as he took off the cowl and went upstairs.
"Sir?" Alfred asked as he noticed his friend in the mansion. "Is there something a matter?" He asked as he glanced in Bruce's direction.
Bruce sighed, "Dick tried to contact me, but his link is down…However, just before that, Danny also tried to contact me…Again, his com link is down as well. Hydrowave is nowhere to be seen…"
There was a knocking at the door, Alfred sighed as he walked over to it, "I'm sure Master Dick, and Master Danny are fine, Master Bruce," he said as he opened the door, only for him to step back in shock. "Master Jazz?"
"A-Alfred…Help…" She called weakly as her face was pale.
Bruce ran over to the door and noticed his ward in the arms of a ghostly pale boy. He had a girl beside her, who also looked ghostly pale. "What happened?" He ordered as he took Jazz forcefully.
"We didn't do it, man!" Johnny said as he put his hands up defensively as he saw the look he was getting from Bruce.
"She said that there was an attack at the asylum…She got hurt," the girl said as she looked at Jazz with a worried expression. "Is she…?"
Bruce scowled as he ran over to the couch that was by the door, "Alfred!"
"On it, sir!" Alfred yelled as he dashed away and returned seconds later with a first aid kit. "You two may come in, if you wish," Alfred said as he glanced at the two teenagers who peeked their heads through the door.
"She's lost a lot of blood," Bruce said in a disapproval tone as he started to pull out a needle and surgical thread to stitch up the girl's wounds. He narrowed his eyes as he noticed the shards of glass in the girl's hand. "What exactly happened?"
Johnny rubbed his head with a cringe, "I didn't really see anything until she dropped onto the scaffolding…"
Kitty sighed, "She fell from a three story drop. She might have a pretty bruised up back," she said as she crossed her arms. "The girl's been through so much already…"
"What else? What was she running from?" Bruce asked as he glanced up, performing the first aid like a pro, making the ghost teenagers in the room to raise their eyebrows.
"She said a colleague…But as we were flying away, I saw a man who looked like a clown…" Kitty said in thought as she nodded her head. "It was weird. We tried to get here as fast as we could. We wanted to put her in a hospital, but she demanded we bring her here."
Bruce was wrapping her hand, and then looked up momentarily, "You said flew?"
The teenagers exchanged glances, "We're dead, Mr. Wayne. Ghosts," Johnny said as he crossed his arms. "Anyway, we should get going. We usually don't stay in one place for too long…"
"Why?" Alfred asked as he looked at the teenagers in front of him.
"Because, it makes it easier for Plasmius to capture us. Force us to work for him…Who knows how many he has for him now?" Kitty asked as her face showed pain.
Bruce's eyes narrowed at the name 'Plasmius'. "When did this start happening?"
"Two weeks ago…We were lucky to find a natural portal to get away from him…"
Bruce felt anger start to rise in him, and then fear, "Danny…" He said as realization dawned on him. "That's why he didn't answer his communicator…" Bruce suddenly stood up, making everyone in the room to look at him. He then started to head to the entrance to the Bat Cave.
"Where are you going, sir?" Alfred asked as he walked closer to Jazz, she had passed out as soon as she had got here.
"To get my Team back…" he said darkly as he walked into another room.
Danny had his back to the DNA barrier in the doorframe, making it a makeshift wall. He had one knee propped up and the other leg straight on the floor. He sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm himself down. "Calm down, Fenton…You got away from Vlad before…You can do it again," he said out loud as he heard childlike footsteps walking down the hallway. Curious, the half ghost turned, only to see Youngblood talking casually to his pirate bird on his shoulder. "Youngblood?" Danny asked as he turned suddenly and placed his hands against the barrier.
Youngblood stopped and turned to Danny with a small smile on his face, "Danny? Fenton?" He asked as he walked closer to the barrier. "What are you doing here?"
"He kidnapped me…Is there a button out there somewhere you can press to get me out of here?" He asked as he looked at the boy with hopeful eyes.
"Uh…Hold on…" Youngblood said as he searched along the walls and looked for a button. His eyes lit up as he finally found one and pressed it. In a matter of seconds, the barrier was down, making Danny smile with freedom.
He quickly walked out of his room and looked down the hallway in both directions, finding the cost to be clear. He then bent down at Youngblood's eye level, "What are you doing here?"
"Plasmius can't hold what he can't see," Youngblood said with a smirk.
"What about you, Phantom? Exactly how are you going to escape? Plasmius was boasting on how he finally had you to some technological contraptions in his study," the pirate bird said as it looked at Danny with mild interest.
Danny didn't respond for a second before standing up, "I-I…I don't know. To be honest, I'm scared of what might happen if…" He trailed looking down at the floor. "If…He gets me again."
A pink blast landed onto Danny's chest, making the young halfa fly several feet backwards. From the force of the blast, he had rolled on the ground a couple of times before stopping. A pair of feet landed by his head, making the boy look up, only to see Vlad Plasmius. "Daniel…How did you manage to get out of your room?" Vlad asked as he looked at the boy with interest in his eyes, making the boy shiver.
'I forgot how creepy he can be,' Danny thought as he got up to his knees. He looked past Vlad, at his ghostly friend. Youngblood gave a wink as he fired an ectoblast of his own at Vlad, making the older halfa lunge forward a little. He sneered as he turned his back to Danny, to find the mysterious attacker, only to find that no one was there. 'This is my chance,' Danny thought as he took a step back, before pivoting his entire body on that foot, and started running away from his arch enemy.
"Daniel!" Vlad yelled as his voice echoed throughout the hallway.
Danny looked around the room as he ran, trying to find an opportune place to hide. "He sounds mad!" He yelled as he quickly ducked into a room. He tried to contain his beating heartbeat and held his breath as he heard the loud, taunting footsteps of his pursuer.
"Daniel, there's nowhere that you can hide that I won't find you," he said as his footsteps went past the door he was hiding behind. Danny let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in as he quietly stepped away from the door and looked into the room he had went into. It was of his study, the place where the parrot claimed Vlad was talking to people in.
"But who would he be talking to?" Danny mused out loud as he turned on the lights and monitors were aligned in a circle. The boy narrowed his eyes as he walked towards the circle and examined them, "Why would he be talking to them?"
"Isn't it obvious? To try and get you," the parrot's voice said as Danny quickly turned his head to the door and saw Youngblood and his bird partner phase through the door. Youngblood waved as he smiled and flew towards Danny.
"You better hurry and get out of here. Plasmius is checking every room in the mansion. He looked steamed," Youngblood said as he narrowed his eyes.
Danny nodded and quickly shut off the lights, which he suddenly paused, coming to a realization. "Lights..?" Danny asked to himself as he rose an eyebrow.
"Are you coming, or not?" Youngblood asked as he turned back to look at Danny. Danny shook his head, trying to regain his focus. He then ran out of the room and bumped straight into the sturdy chest of Vlad Plasmius. Danny looked up with wide eyes as he tried to run, only for the man to snatch his arm, making it impossible to run away.
"That was a nice trick, boy. But I can't have you running away. You're grounded, after all," Vlad said as he smirked. "We'll have to put you back in your room, won't we?"
"We?" Danny asked as he rose his eyebrows.
Skulker and Ember appeared behind Vlad, looking as menacing as possible with deadly smirks placed on their faces. "What's wrong, Baby pop? Looks like you're having a little dispute," Ember said as she crossed her arms.
"The whelp won't get away from you again, Plasmius. I've upgraded the DNA barrier…Only you can open it now," Skulker said with a grin.
Danny's heart started to race, "Y-You're not-"
"Perfect," Plasmius said off handedly as he raised the boy's arm so Danny could look his square in the eyes. "You hear that, boy? You won't escape again."
Danny could hardly breathe with the threat of being locked up again in that room, under Vlad's control. Suddenly, his chest started to burn, as if it were on fire. He cringed as he put a comforting hand to the part where it burned and his eyes widened. "N-No…I can control it," Danny said as he tried to focus on the 'here and now', which Bruce had taught him. Only except, the 'here and now' was worse.
Vlad smiled slowly, revealing his fangs as he started to laugh, "Everything is working out as it should be."
"W-What did you do to me?" Danny asked in fear as he squinted his eyes at Plasmius.
"Only did some upgrades to the mark I placed on you all those months ago. After all, it was nearly fading…And that would have interfered for my plans for getting what I want," Vlad lectured to him, as if he were a small child.
Danny clenched his teeth as he glanced down at Youngblood who looked up at him, "Danny? Do you need some help?"
"No…" Danny replied sarcastically, "I'm only in pain…"
"Oh, okay. I thought you needed help," Youngblood said as he shrugged his shoulders.
His parrot sighed on his shoulder, "That was sarcasm. Yes, he needs help," the parrot drawled.
"Oh! He could have just said that!" Youngblood said with a grin that rivaled the Cheshire cat's as he disappeared from Danny's sights. He closed his eyes and hoped that he could get away from Vlad, and away from the pain in his chest.
"What's the matter, boy? If you don't want the pain, then don't resist," Vlad said, as if a two year old could understand the situation.
Danny growled, making Vlad chuckle as he started to walk, with the boy still in his grasps. "As if I'd…Ever…" Danny responded in-between breaths. Ember suddenly chuckled as she heeled over, trying to take in breaths. Skulker looked over at his girlfriend with an eyebrow raised.
"Uh…Ember?" He asked cautiously. Ember then looked over at him, and then smirked as she brought her guitar from nowhere and hit him right over the head with it, making him fall to the ground, unconscious.
"I'm so awesome! Look at me!" Ember yelled as she fist pumped the air. She then looked at Plasmius, who had just narrowed his eyes at the girl, trying to figure out what was wrong with her. "Look! I have boobs!"
There was a moment of silence and then Ember frowned, "What do you mean that's wrong?" She asked to the air, and then had to duck an ectoblast from Vlad, who had lost his patience with the scene in front of him. "You would hit a girl?" She asked as she put a hand out, an ectoblast building up in it.
"Who are you?" Vlad asked as he glared at the girl, as he tossed the in pain Danny aside as if he were nothing more than loose baggage. Danny landed on the ground and hissed in pain as he grabbed his still burning chest with both of his hands, trying to make the pain go away.
"Who do you think, gramps?" She asked as she cocked her head to the side. She then cracked her fingers as she took a step towards him. "I'm your worst nightmare." She then looked over at Danny and winked, and the boy nodded in return. He struggled to get up, but once he did, he bolted off. He heard the blasting and clashing from behind him, 'Don't get hurt, Youngblood,' he thought grimly as he took off towards the entrance of the mansion.
Alice had placed the couch cushions in the darkness, making somewhat of a line for when the next portal appeared. She knew where it was last, and if her planning was correct, with enough water coming through the portal in a split second, it could generate enough water for her to make a water knife. She heard a disturbance of a sound barrier being broken and prepared for an attack.
"I hope this works. If it doesn't, I have one half demon going ape shit on me," Alice said with a shrug and a sly smile, "And yet, I've been through worse."
The portal opened up, and Sin could barely step out. Alice had gathered a small water knife in her hands and was about to thrust it in his neck, only for him to catch it with his bare hand without breaking a sweat. He turned his head and grinned at the girl. She growled and tried to pull back, only for his grip to tighten. "I see our conversation earlier has made you upset," he said as the portal started to close. "Did you want to talk about your feelings?"
"I want to see you dead, personally," Alice said with a glare as she shoved him away from her, finding new found strength. She glanced at the slowly closing portal and took a step closer to it, careful as to not step into the void blackness; as the couch cushions were very small.
"I see what you're going to do, sweetie. I won't give you enough time to do it, though," he said as he snapped his fingers, and his dog familiar appeared out of the darkness, barring its teeth to Alice. She glanced at it and then at Sin.
Alice closed her eyes briefly, making Sin smile as his portal closed up. Sin then walked closer to her, walking on the darkness as if it were a floor itself. "Now, drop the knife," he said softly as he extended his hand. Alice opened her eyes back up with a devious smile on her face.
"You always told me that the darkness could be unpredictable in the chaos realm…" She trailed on as she dropped her knife. It went falling through the darkness until it was out of their sight. "But you don't control the darkness, do you?" She asked as she cocked her head to the side.
"You should take a seat, I wouldn't want you to fall," he said as he took another step closer to her, as she took a step back, making him stop in his tracks. He narrowed his eyes at the girl and she smirked.
"You're worried about where I'll end up if I fall. I could end up in Hell…Maybe someplace on Earth…Limbo, perhaps…" She trailed on as she looked down at the ground, "And yet, all of those places seem better than staying here with you," she said as she looked back up again.
He started to laugh dryly, "You wouldn't take the chance," Sin said as he crossed his arms.
She rose an eyebrow, "Wouldn't I?" She asked rhetorically as she jumped backwards off the platform, making her free fall through the darkness. The light that was in the area started to get eaten away by the darkness as she kept plummeting. Her senses started to dull and the next thing she knew, she was laying on the side of a road, somewhere in the desert.
"Really?" She asked as she looked around and slowly sat up, the sand staying on some parts of her body. "The desert? I would have taken Limbo over this…" She said as she sighed. She tried to get up, only for her body to suddenly ache. She gasped as she hunched over, trying to comfort herself. She then lifted up her shirt and noticed a red mark on her body. She growled in pain, "Sin," she hissed, "That sneaky bastard…Must have been when he touched me…He placed a damn curse mark on me…" She said, getting upset quickly, only for the mark to start to expand, causing her to cringe in pain again.
"He must have thought I'd never be so desperate…" She said as she laid back down, the sand comforted her body. She started to laugh, "I can't believe I was…That desperate…" Alice said softly as she closed her eyes. She then lost consciousness to over exhaustion.
"Well, it only took me 54 attempts, but I managed to make it outside," Robin mumbled positively as he ran behind a tree. He caught his breath, and tried to ignore the aches and pains Deathstroke had inflicted on him.
"Impressive, Robin. Unless of course you were actually trying to escape," Deathstroke's voice came from above. Robin gasped and looked up, only to see the man fall from the tree and had a kick positioned to Robin's head.
He quickly dodged out of the way, making Deathstroke to create a small crater on the ground, "Why can't you just be whelmed?" Robin asked quietly as he stood up slowly.
"However, I tire of this game of cat and mouse. Come, we will go back inside so you can change out of that…Ridiculous attire," the man said as he started to go back towards the small cabin. Robin let out a breath, 'Who does he think he is? Batman?'
"No," Robin said defiantly as he narrowed his eyes under his cracked shades. They had broken on attempt 31, and he had no doubt that the man could see his eyes now. "I'm trying to get away from you, in case you hadn't noticed!"
Deathstroke stopped walking and turned around, his arms behind his back. "Robin…You aren't going to escape…Because you don't have the right techniques," he said in a matter of fact voice.
Robin growled as he clenched his fists, "You don't know me!" He yelled suddenly, letting his emotions take over him, something that Batman lectured to control over and over again.
The man started to chuckle, "Oh, Robin. I know you're the sidekick of Batman, the boy wonder of Gotham…That's all I need to know to point your flaws, boy," he said as he eyed the boy in front of him.
"I'm not a sidekick! I'm my own hero!" Robin yelled as he took a step forward, ready to charge the man, forgetting that he was a deadly mercenary who could snap his neck like a twig if he so desired to.
Deathstroke just turned around and started to walk back towards the cabin, "You're living in the Batman's shadow. You're nothing, and always will be nothing but a sidekick."
Robin thought on the words and the growled as he charged at the man, fists raised. He took a swing at the man's legs with his own leg, but was met with nothing. Deathstroke had stopped walking and turned his head towards the boy. "That formation wasn't correct, Robin. If you want to perform that technique…" He trailed as he lifted his leg unexpectantly and aimed it for mid-calf on Robin's leg, taking him down immediately as his weight was swept out from under him. Robin remained on the ground for a while, trying to not pay attention to his bruised ribs, and now, bruised back. "You do so, like I just demonstrated. Honestly, boy, it's a wonder why you always need Batman to save you."
"Why are you doing this to me?" Robin asked weakly as he looked up at the man who was leering down at him with his single eye. He only cocked his head.
"Robin, you have potential. Batman may not see that, but I do. You see, I need someone to follow in my footsteps. Someone to teach my knowledge to, and apprentice, if you will. And Robin, I've chosen you. Congratulations," he said as he picked up the weak boy, slinging him over his shoulder carelessly, making the boy cringe with pain.
"I already work with someone…I'm Batman's partner…" Robin said through the pain.
"I wonder what he'll think once I'm done with you…" Deathstroke said, sending shivers down Robin's spine.
Danny managed to find his way out of the mansion, he sighed in relief as he hid behind a tree to catch his breath. His chest managed to stop burning and he lifted up his shirt as he noticed the 'V' on his chest, once again. It was as bold and present as when he first had it. He placed his shirt down and tried his best to not scream in frustration. "With every step I take, Vlad is four steps in front of me!" He quietly yelled in agony.
"Daniel…" Vlad called his name as it echoed off the trees by the house. Danny held his breath as he listened to where he was. "Your friend pulled a neat little trick…Youngblood was his name, wasn't it?" Danny knew he was trying to lure him out, but he wouldn't fall for it. He watched as his form hovered right by him, floating forward as he glanced his head to the sides. As Danny tried to take a step backward, away from him, he managed to snap on a branch.
"Crap…" Danny mumbled as Vlad darted his head in the boy's direction with an amused smile. Danny froze in the spot, unsure of exactly where to go from there.
"My, my, Daniel. You look as if you were caught sneaking a cookie from the snack jar," Vlad said as he landed his feet on the ground. Making Danny' heartbeat race faster, he then took off into a random direction, only to be yanked back by the collar of his shirt, making him land on the ground.
"Let go of me!" Danny yelled as he struggled out of the man's grasp.
Vlad only shook his head down at the boy, "You gave me quite a run for my money…And you know how much I love my money," he said darkly as he thrusted the boy into a nearby tree, making Danny get the wind knocked out of him. Upon being tossed into a tree, Danny immediately felt his energy leave him, and he let his head hang down. "Are you ready to admit defeat? It isn't as if you had a choice in the matter, you were doomed to fail," he said as he walked closer to the boy.
"You always have a choice…" Danny said weakly as he glanced up at Vlad, a renowned confidence was on his face as he narrowed his eyes. "And I won't ever…Admit defeat to you," he said as he struggled to stand up, grasping the tree behind him to help support his weight.
Vlad growled out in rage as he summoned an ectoblast at the boy, who expertly dodged it by rolling to the side and then quickly getting back up. "Sure, you can try and beat me into submission…But I will never join you…Not now, and not ever," Danny said as he smirked.
"Ever can be a long time, little badger," Vlad said as he smirked. "I have ways of making you give in to me. Perhaps I should bring Samantha or Tucker into this?"
Danny's smirk fell off his face as he glanced down to the ground. "Don't," he pleaded weakly as his body started to tremble. He fell to his knees, his strength and last wind giving up on him. "Please…"
Vlad walked over to the boy on the ground, he then bent down to him, knowing he wouldn't do anything now that his friends had been threatened. "Why so glum, Daniel? You know that I always get what I want…" He said as he grasped the boy's chin harshly as he forced him to look up at him. "I hope you enjoyed those months away from me, because as of now, this is where you will be staying."
Danny narrowed his eyes as he tried to get away from the man, "You can't just-"
"I can. Daniel, you are marked. You are mine," he said in an almost possessive tone, making the skin crawl on Danny's body. He finally let go of Danny as he smirked.
"I'm not going to be your apprentice," he hissed out with as much hate as he could muster.
Vlad started to chuckle as he stood up, "You say that as if you have a choice," the man said as he crossed his arms. Danny saw Youngblood as he looked off into the distance. In his condition, Danny was surprised that the ghost child could stand up.
"Hey, Danny. I know it looks bad, but I'm cool. Anyway, I'll give you a distraction, and then you can get away from here," Youngblood said as he started to sway his body back and forth, his body about to give out on him.
"I can't ask you to do that," Danny said with a pained expression.
Vlad chuckled again, "You're talking to Youngblood I presume? Is he telling you how much it hurts?"
"Stop…" Danny warned weakly as he narrowed his eyes up at the man with scorn.
Vlad smirked, "I made sure to get a few good hits in after he revealed himself, although it had only been for a few seconds. Is he telling you how much he screamed? Because I remember, Daniel. He screamed as you ran away like a coward."
Danny erupted in rage as he lunged at Vlad, only the older halfa had baited him into attacking and caught his hand. He twisted it around as he pushed Danny's body to the ground, making him yelp out in pain as he felt a knee being pushed against his back. "Although, given your present condition, I couldn't blame you, running away like a coward. Yet, he screamed for help…For your help that never came."
"Danny, don't listen to him! I didn't scream that badly!" Youngblood yelled as he pouted.
"No, I was there. You screamed bloody murder," his parrot added, making Youngblood glare at his companion.
"You aren't helping…" Youngblood said as he looked at Danny being under such mental and physical pain. "And neither am I! I'm coming!"
"He wanted someone to be there for him, and you never came. Some hero you turned out to be…" Vlad whispered into Danny's ear, making the boy grab handfuls of dirt in agony.
"Shut up!" Danny yelled as he tried to flip himself over.
Vlad dug his knee deeper into the boy's back, making him scream in pain. The older halfa smiled, "The truth is painful to hear, isn't it, boy?"
Vlad was suddenly blasted off the boy's back, and Danny got up on his hands and knees. "Thanks, Youngblood," Danny mumbled as he quickly got up to his feet.
"No problem. Take this chance to run! I don't know how long I can last!" Youngblood yelled as he fired another beam. Danny looked up at Vlad and saw him make duplicates of himself.
"No," Danny said with a shake of his head, Youngblood raised his eyebrows in surprise. "We do this together."
Youngblood nodded, "You got it!"
Black Canary was having a peachy afternoon, but she didn't expect getting a radio call from Batman to be added to the list.
"Canary," she said as she threw two hot heads into each other, causing them to get knocked out.
"There's been two kidnappings. Phantom and Robin have both been kidnapped. You will locate Robin, and I have assigned Green Arrow to go after Phantom. We have tracked their com link residue, leading us to where they are," he said in her ear.
"Wait…First off, you're not going after Robin yourself?" She asked as she narrowed her eyes.
"I have to look after the mission I sent the Team on. They are nearing the end and I plan to see it through…"
Black Canary nodded, "What about this com link residue? This is the first time I've ever heard of it," she said as she crossed her arms.
"It was a failsafe, in case I could not locate any of the Team members. This is why I had each of their com links spray nanoscopic probes into their ears if they were to somehow be destroyed. The only problem is that it takes much longer to be traced."
"You really do think of everything," Black Canary said as she shook her head in disbelief.
"It was necessary," he responded.
Black Canary didn't hear anything from him after that, so she assumed the conversation was over. She then tapped her communicator again, "Ollie…"
"What is it? A little busy…" He said as she could hear a few arrows being casted. She smiled to herself, 'Typical Oliver Queen,' she thought to herself.
"Batman called. Sending coordinates, you are to get Phantom," she said as she heard an explosion.
"Wait, I'm busy training Artemis…How does he expect me to-?"
"Then bring the girl with…You have a mission to do. Black Canary out," she concluded as she started to the newest Zeta Tube.
"There has to be some way out of this room…" Robin thought to himself as he looked at the room again. The vent had been blocked be metal, which happened after escape attempt number 12. He eyed the uniform on the bed, and avoided it as if it were poison. "He's crazy if he thinks I'm wearing that…" He trailed, trying to not have a panic attack.
There were footsteps by the door and it suddenly opened, Deathstroke appeared by the door with his arms crossed. He leaned against the frame. "Still haven't changed?" He asked, although it came out more as a statement.
Robin narrowed his eyes, "I told you, I already have a partner. To change uniforms would be a form of betrayal."
Deathstroke remained silent as he walked into the room, a heated rod behind him. It had an engraved 'S' on it, only it was jagged. Robin's eyes went wide as he took a step back. "You aren't going to…" Robin said his thoughts out loud.
"One way or another you are going to be branded…Branded by the hands of a mercenary. After all, someone has to put the robin in a cage, otherwise someone else might take it," he said as he advanced forward, blocking the exit as he did so.
"As if I hadn't heard that before," Robin cockily said with a roll of his eyes. He kept his eyes on Deathstroke, careful as to keep his distance. Robin dodged to the left as the man kept walking, saying nothing at all. He managed to run out of the room, only to notice that the hallway had been trapped. As soon as he stepped out, tranquilizer darts came out of the walls. Robin managed to dodge all of them expertly and he let out a sigh. Deathstroke let out a chuckle from behind him, making the boy suddenly turn towards the voice.
"One shot of those, and you would have been knocked out…Yet, you managed to dodge all of them…Good job, Robin," he said as he continued to walk towards the boy with the heated rod still.
Robin didn't have time for a breather as he continued to run for his life, "I never asked, but what does the 'S' stand for? I'm going to take a guess and assume it's not hope," Robin said as he chuckled at his own joke.
"My first name, of course. I go by both names periodically," Deathstroke said casually from down the hall.
'He hasn't one made a charge at me…' Robin thought grimly as he looked ahead of him and saw a locked door. It had a machine by it, which meant that he could hack it open. 'If I have enough time…' As he reached the machine he started furiously at the keyboard, typing so fast that you couldn't see his fingers.
"You're going to attempt to hack my security now? What a brave boy…" Deathstroke said as he took his time to reach Robin.
Robin didn't look back at the man who was approaching dangerously close to him. He only concentrated at the puzzle in front of him. The security system isn't one that he ever saw, it wasn't easy to hack, it had at least four fire walls, which proved that Deathstroke was an expert hacker. As the man approached the boy in arm distance, the door had opened, and Robin had to dodge the incoming attack from the heated rod to avoid having a permanent 'S' on his skin.
"I expected nothing less of my apprentice," Deathstroke mused out loud with a chuckle. "You cease to impress me."
Robin stopped running and turned around suddenly, "You're testing me…" Robin stated as his eyes grew wide.
"Good, you figured it out. At least the Batman did something right," Deathstroke said with a tilt of his head. "However, the tests are over," he said as he brought out a device from his utility belt and pressed a red button. A loud piercing sound came over the two of them. Robin was down on the ground covering his ears.
"Is this a recorded Canary cry?" Robin yelled as Deathstroke walked over to him, the heated rod in his hands looking more menacing by the second. "How are you not affected by this?"
Deathstroke shrugged off the boy's question, "Now, Robin. I would spoil you if I told you that…" He said as he brought the rod over the boy's chest and was about to bring it down when a real Canary cry erupted through the area. Although it hadn't drained the man, it did send him flying.
"Robin?" Black Canary asked as she bent down by him.
"Black Canary," he said with relief, "I'm whelmed to see you," he added with a weak smile.
"I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner," she said with sorrow.
Robin shrugged, "You're a super hero, I understand," he teased with a smirk.
Black Canary nodded as she picked the boy up in her arms, to her surprise he had let her. She looked down at the boy in her arms and found his eyes slowly closing. She then glanced over at Deathstroke who had gotten up and pulled out a sword. "How dare you take him," she growled with narrowed eyes.
"How dare you take what belongs to someone else," he retorted back as he charged her with his sword ready to be used.
She opened her mouth and let out a cry, making him stumble back again, "Your recording isn't as strong as the real thing…I'm taking Robin back. You mess with us again and you'll be getting the entire league."
"I have proved that I can take the lot of you…You taking him will only fuel my ambitions to turn him," he said as he smirked.
Black Canary simply started to walk away, "You should be weary of the night, Deathstroke…" She said as she walked out of the hideout with a now passed out Robin. Deathstroke remained silent as he let her take him.
'For now,' Deathstroke thought darkly with narrowed eyes.
"Even with extra help, you can't seem to beat me," Vlad said with a smirk as he held Danny in the air by the throat.
Danny struggled to kick him, but Vlad batted his legs to the side, "I-I'm warning you!" Danny stuttered by the lack of air supply.
Vlad only shook his head as he raised a fist full of ectoplasm and aimed it at Youngblood, "I will destroy him to get what I want," he threatened as he narrowed his eyes at the boy.
"How…Can you see me?" Youngblood asked out loud, only to receive no answer.
"He can't. He can only sense you," Danny said, but then let out a yelp as the grip around his throat tightened. The boy started to see stars, and he gripped Vlad's hand tightly, trying to get it off his throat.
"Enough of this, Daniel. Why make this harder than it has to be?" Vlad asked as he fired the ectoblast making Danny jump in alarm.
"Don't!" Danny yelled, as smoke started to fill the area. Danny felt his body tense up as the smoke cleared, and Youngblood was off to the side. The boy let out a breath of relief that he hadn't known he was holding in.
"I missed on purpose, Daniel. The next shot will destroy him," Vlad said as he looked into the boy's eyes. "Unless…" He trailed on, leaving the younger halfa to guess on what he wanted. Vlad enjoyed the look of worry and pain on the boy's face.
A green arrow was shot into Vlad's arm, making the man hiss in pain as he dropped the boy on the ground. Danny looked and noticed Green Arrow and someone else by his side. He cocked his head to the side and briefly wondered where Roy was…However, he decided that it wasn't worth the time to think about it and somehow get caught by Vlad again. "Phantom!"
Danny looked up at Green Arrow calling him and noticed that he was right by him. "Green Arrow? How did you find me?"
"It was all thanks to that residue…" Green Arrow said with a smile on his face.
Danny cocked an eyebrow up, "Um…I'm not following you. And who's this?" He asked as he glanced at the girl who only stared at him.
"Name's Artemis, Slick," she said with a smirk.
"Slick?" He asked as he stood up and narrowed his eyes.
"Let's not fight each other, let's fight the guy who's seriously mad about taking an arrow to the arm," Green Arrow said as he got an explosive arrow on his bow.
Danny and Artemis nodded as she did the same. Danny felt the familiar cold sensation back in his stomach and turned into his ghost form in a flash of light. Artemis glanced over at him with her eyebrows raised. "Whoa…"
Danny took to the air and glared the older halfa down, "It's payback time," Danny said as he cracked his knuckles.
"Afraid not, kiddo. This was a simple rescue mission. We're leaving," Green Arrow said as he grabbed Danny's foot as he ran away, making Vlad smirk.
"Listen to the adults, Daniel," Vlad said as he crossed his arms.
"This isn't over," Danny hissed out.
Vlad only watched him with amusement, "You're right, this won't be over until you're on my side…See you soon, little badger."
"Don't do me any favors, Plasmius!" Danny yelled as he was dragged through the woods.
"Alice!" Danny yelled as he saw the passed out girl on the couch in the Cave. He ran to the couch, only to find her unconscious. Her body was filthy from the sand that she passed out on, and her clothes were tattered from her previous fight.
Aqualad walked into the room along with Kid Flash, "We finally caught her signal…She was in Arizona," Kid Flash said gravely as he crossed his arms with a frown.
Danny nodded, "What about the mission?" He asked as he glanced up at Aqualad.
"We took it down. Miss Martian, Kid Flash, Super Boy, and I. We had help from who we suspected to be Roy," Aqualad said as he held up the green arrow.
Danny titled his head as he examined the arrow, "But it's green…" He deadpanned as he assumed it was from the help of Green Arrow's new sidekick, Artemis.
"Who cares? Souvenir!" Kid Flash yelled as he snatched it and ran to his room.
"Wait…Where's Robin?" Danny asked looking around.
"Recognized Robin, B-01," the computerized voice said as it rang through the area. The Team all looked over to where Robin was and saw that he was limping as he came through the zeta tube.
"Dude! What happened!" Kid Flash yelled as he ran over to his friend, who almost fell.
Robin smirked, "Just some big baddie who tried to kidnap me. It's not even worth the mention," Robin shrugged it off. Danny sighed as he walked over to him and slapped him across the head. "What was that for?" Robin asked in annoyance as he rubbed his head.
"What the hell were you thinking…Why didn't you stick with Super Boy?" Danny asked as he narrowed his eyes.
"He just ditched me! It wasn't even my fault!" Robin yelled as he hit his adopted brother in the chest, right where the newly developed 'V' was. Danny dropped to the ground instantly in pain as he let out a small hiss. Robin's eyes grew wide. "I didn't know…Sorry," he said as he looked down at the ground.
Danny tried to laugh it off, "It's fine. I was just worried about you. After all, Batman would have my head if anything happened to you," Danny said with a smirk.
Robin smirked back, "Of course he would."
"Are you sure you didn't want to stay with Alice?" Dick asked as he walked through the doors of Wayne manor.
"Aqualad said he'd look after her. Besides, I'm exhausted…" Danny said with a sigh as he looked at Alfred who was looking at him with concerned eyes.
"Master Danny? Your sister has been injured," Alfred said softly.
Danny blinked and then narrowed his eyes, "What do you mean?" He then looked up at Bruce who entered the room.
"She fell through a window. I made sure to stitch her up," Bruce said, but Danny was already running to Jazz's room.
Dick just shook his head, "You're not telling him the entire story…Who was after her?"
"Joker escaped Arkham asylum…And he has help now. Harley Quinn, she was a psychologist assigned to him," Bruce said as he crossed his arms.
"You didn't want Danny to worry. Understandable," Dick said with a sigh, although his bruised ribs ached in pain due to that.
"What about you? Deathstroke took you…I want you to know that won't happen again," Bruce said darkly as he put a comforting hand on his son's shoulder.
Dick nodded in response, "It was a close call…If Black Canary hadn't come when she did…" Dick trailed, his eyes glanced to the floor.
"But she did," Bruce said with a small smile. "Go get some rest, Dick," Bruce said as Dick nodded slowly and headed up the stairs.
Alfred glanced at Bruce, "This is just the beginning," he said as he shook his head. "Shall I draw up a bath for you, sir?"
"Thanks Alfred," Bruce said as Alfred walked away. "This has something to do with an organization called the Light…But what are they after?"
Reviews:
o realisticFantasy o: Thanks for sticking around, I'm glad that you like it so far!
This is Nico: I haven't heard about drop bears before, I guess they…Get the drop on you…Bad pun is bad. I haven't thought about if Alice knew Artemis or not. It would only seem logical that she would know her, since she is Sportsmaster's daughter. And you will be in the best mood for next chapter! Dani will be making her appearance next chapter!
ethiopian1987: Australia seems like a cool place to visit, I'll bet something happens every day there.
IWasNeverReal: I feel bad for Danny last chapter, just because he didn't really do much. It's a vast difference from last chapter to this one, though.
KodiakWolfe13: Yeah, all of the chapters are important! Homemade mac and cheese is the best, it melts in your mouth and has the melted cheese. 3
jim89: I noticed that I basically rewrite the episodes, which I'm going to stray away from and create my own story with the characters that I have. Speaking of Valerie, I need a chapter that I need to put her in. She'll come in eventually, I know that. There will be times throughout the story that Sam and Tucker will be needed, although that won't be for a few chapters.
Jebest4781: Here's some parts with Jazz, although it will be getting more into depth as the story progresses. She will likely be trying to help Harley get back into society again. This is her first jail break in the asylum as well, which means that Bruce might have to teach her a few moves to defend herself since he doesn't want this incident happening again.
A/N: Dr. Flower is from my story Midnight. He's just an OC. Sin is Klarion's brother, which explains the suit he was wearing. I wanted Sin to match Klarion somewhat. Alice never got her fireworks...My failed Deathstroke...Did you guys hear? There might be a season 3 of Young Justice! I can't believe this story as almost 100 followers. Does this mean I get a trophy or something? :) Johnny, Kitty, and Youngblood make a much needed appearance. The next chapter will hopefully be out next month!
