A/N: Ayy, so how is everyone doing? Great? Me too (Not at all, like college is…It is…Blehh)! This chapter got out a little (extremely) late, and hey, it's all my fault. But to be fair, I started this in July, but uhh…Welp, stuff happened I guess. That's how life goes, though, but the important part is that it's out now!
So I know how I said that Bruce would win the round against Vlad, but don't be angry with me! Good always wins in the end, guys, that's what important. So, just hold on to your marbles, sticks, and rubber bands, because the journey is almost over. And I say almost over because I'm going to finish up this story this year. I promise. I'll try to get it finished. Also, like, this story is almost over too.
Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom or Young Justice.
Homefront
Danny packed everything in his light blue duffel bag as it landed on his bed. The young halfa watched it sink slightly as he made a slight frown, "Did I pack too much?" He wondered out loud as he rose an eyebrow.
Jazz opened his door slowly as he glanced to her entering his room, "Do you have everything, little brother?" She asked with a small smile on her face. Danny watched the smile and examined his sister with sad eyes, "I think you might have over packed?" She asked rhetorically with a slight chuckle as she walked over to him.
"Maybe," he admitted as he shrugged, "It's just…You know…" He trailed as he looked at his bag again, a form of longing on his face, "Memorial stuff," he explained.
Jazz placed a hand on his shoulder, "I miss them too," she stated in a small tone that was barely above a whisper. Danny looked over at him and nodded, "They say it will get easier…" She trailed as her grip increased in his shoulder. The young halfa could notice her discomfort about the subject from a mile away as he nodded again.
"It will," Danny said in a confident, strong tone. Jazz looked up into his unyielding blue eyes, "Trust me," he encouraged, placing his hand on top of his sister's.
"Danny!" Ellie yelled as she ran into the room with a big grin on her face, making the two siblings pull away from each other and look at the new comer. "Hey, Jazz!" She greeted as she noticed her older sister, "So, when are we going to leave?" She asked, excitement laced in her voice. "I'm really excited!"
Jazz chuckled as she walked over to her younger sibling, "I can tell!" She exclaimed with a grin on her face, "We're about to leave in ten minutes tops," Jazz informed, watching Ellie's already big grin grow bigger, "Make sure you have everything packed," she lectured as she rose her pointer finger at Ellie.
Ellie hopped up and down, "I do!" She yelled as her hopping turned into hovering as she placed her hands against each other. "I even packed a swimsuit in case we go swimming!" She said happily as she glanced over at Danny, "Do you think we can go swimming, Danny?" She asked as she hovered over to him with a pleading grin on her face.
"Whoa, take it easy!" Danny chided as he grabbed onto her arm gently and lowered her to the ground, "I don't know if there will be a swimming pool, you'd have to ask Bruce that," he said as her face fell slightly, only to be raised once again.
"What's Amity Park like?" She asked as Jazz let out an exaggerated sigh at the switch of topics.
"Danielle, you might have Attention Deficit Disorder…" Jazz trailed in a teasing manner as Ellie immediately looked over at her with a raised eyebrow in mild confusion.
"What's that?" Ellie asked, expecting an answer as Jazz whistled casually as she walked out of the door. Ellie's eyes grew wide as she looked over at Danny, "What's Attention..." She trailed, not knowing the rest of the mental illness.
Danny chuckled, "Attention Deficit Disorder," he finished for her as she nodded impatiently, "It's nothing to worry about," he waved off as he grabbed his bag from his bed and swung it over his shoulder.
Ellie pouted, "What does it mean, though?" She asked as she hovered once more, letting her emotions control her ghost powers. "Danny!" She yelled as he walked out of his room, whistling the same exact tune as Jazz had previously done. "Danny!" She protested as she hovered out of his room with her fists clenched in frustration.
"Whoa!" Dick called out as he ducked in time for Ellie to float above him, "What's going on?" He asked with a smirk on his face at the family drama happening so early in the morning.
Ellie opened her mouth, only for Danny to grin, "Just getting ready for the trip," Danny informed as Dick nodded as he looked between the two.
Dick nodded, "Make sure you tell them what's happened so far," the thirteen year old said as he started to walk past the duo, "I'm sure they'll want to hear all about it," he stated, placing his hands in his pockets as he ventured deeper into the depths of the mansion.
"Talk to who?" Ellie asked with a slight tilt of her head, "Your friends back home?" She asked as Danny shook his head.
"You'll see once we get there," The young halfa answered cryptically as Ellie nodded placing her feet on the ground once more as they walked down the stairs towards the entrance of the mansion.
Ellie placed her arms behind her back, "Dick isn't going to come with us?" She asked, looking back to where the young ninja had disappeared to.
Danny shook his head, "He's going to the Cave," he supplied the answer as she nodded her head, "Says he wants to train since Bruce is coming with us," he said as he nonchalantly shrugged. "And besides, he starts school today," Danny stated as Ellie nodded.
"Are all of you ready?" Bruce asked as the two of them as they had reached the bottom of the stairs, "It takes a few hours to get to Amity Park," he stated as Jazz walked into the foyer with her own bag packed.
"Yeah, we're ready," Jazz said as Bruce nodded.
"Let's get going," he stated as he opened the doors, letting the early sunlight into the mansion. Alfred was already positioned out front with the limo.
"Wow!" Ellie yelled as her face was pushed against the window of the limo, leaving a face print on the glass, "This place isn't like Gotham at all!" She exclaimed as she watched the passing buildings with wide, amazed eyes.
Jazz and Danny glanced at each other with their arms crossed. Jazz rose an eyebrow, "Didn't you say there was a weed problem?" She asked as Danny smiled.
"Guess they must have taken care of it," Danny stated as he shrugged. Bruce looked over at Danny with a hardened gaze but didn't say anything. Danny hadn't told of the Undergrowth incident, and he never would. What Batman didn't know about Amity Park, the better.
"They have a place called the Nasty Burger?" Ellie asked as she took her face away from the glass with a grin. She settled down on her seat, "Is it because the food tastes nasty?"
Danny nodded, "It's because they use rat meat instead of regular meat," he teased as Ellie made a face of disgust and stuck her tongue out.
"Really?" She asked as she believed Danny's bluff whole heartedly. The young halfa broke out into a fit of laughter since she had believed what he had said. Jazz hit him in the ribs to make him stop and rolled his eyes at her little brother's antics.
"No, not really," Jazz said with a small smile.
Ellie glared at Danny and crossed her arms, "That's not nice," she mused out loud in a low volume. The limo was reaching to a stop, which made Ellie glance over to the doors, "Are we there?" She asked as the door was opened by Alfred. She stepped out and saw the numerous grave markers and made a frown of disappointment, "This…" She trailed as a gentle wind overcame the area, "Isn't the hotel," she observed.
Danny placed a hand on her back as he walked passed her, "Nah, but we'll get there eventually," he encouraged as his duffle bag was on his shoulder. He kept his eyes forward as he was looking for a set of grave markers.
"Why are we in a cemetery?" Ellie questioned with a raised eyebrow as Jazz walked over to her. She had sunglasses on since it was still very bright in the early morning.
"This is where our parents are," Jazz chided in an emotionless voice. Ellie turned to look at her with surprise for such a sad tone. The young girl noticed the pain on the older teen's face as she looked away to look at Danny. Jazz began to walk, following the way that Danny had went.
Bruce walked over to Ellie and placed a hand on her shoulder, "This is hard for them," he stated as the young girl nodded, "This is the anniversary of their parent's death," he informed as Ellie's eyes went wide with surprise, "I think we should let them mourn…At least just for this day," Bruce said as he started to lead Ellie over to where the other two teens were.
Danny hovered over the graves of Jack and Maddie Fenton. There was fresh flowers, and he had no doubt that Sam had planted them in memory of his parents. He placed his duffel bag on the ground and began to pull some fake flowers out of it, "Hey mom…Dad…" He trailed as he placed the pile of flowers in the small vase that was at the head of the grave markers.
Jazz bent down on her knees, letting the grass cut into them, "Morning!" She greeted as she placed a hand on the grass behind her in a more relaxed position. "Of course, you two were always morning people…Mom, you would always have breakfast ready for us when we woke up."
"If it wasn't glowing green," Danny added with a smirk on his face. He sat down on the ground as a gust of wind overcame the area again. "We've been doing well," Danny said with a small smile on his face.
"I've got a job at the Asylum," Jazz stated as she started to pull some of the weeds from the ground, "They say that I can climb the ladder and get experience," she whispered as Danny looked over at her with sympathy. Jazz let out a few tears as she wiped them away with her index finger. "Danny's been doing well too," she continued as if she hadn't started to cry, "He's in all honor classes and he's still saving people."
"Isn't that sweet?" Vlad's disgusted voice came from behind them.
Jazz and Danny immediately turned to glance at him, each with a fierce glare on their faces. Danny scoffed, "What do you want?" He asked as he rolled his eyes.
Vlad walked up to the grave marker with a smug grin, "I'm here to honor their memory, of course," he stated as he crossed his arms, "Ah, well, perhaps just Maddie."
"I believe that you aren't welcome here, Vlad Masters," Bruce said in a dark voice as he glared at the man. Ellie was glaring at the man as well, but decided to stay silent as she let Bruce do the talking.
"Is it not a free cemetery?" Vlad asked rhetorically.
Danny clenched his fists in anger, "Just go, Vlad. I'm not in the mood to deal with you today," he said as he turned around, completely ignoring the older halfa.
Vlad shrugged, "Ah, I see…" He stated as he turned his gaze to Bruce, who in turn gripped his hand protectively on Ellie, "Well, I didn't come here for you, Daniel," he said as Danny glanced back at him with his eyebrows raised in surprise.
"Mr. Masters, is there something that you want to discuss?" Bruce asked with a smile as Vlad grinned.
"If we could just take a walk," Vlad gestured towards the other side of the cemetery. Bruce rose an eyebrow, but nodded his head. "This will, after all, just take a moment," he added in his sickly smooth business tone.
Ellie watched as Bruce and Vlad walked off into the distance, "This can't be good…" She trailed as she looked around. After she made sure nobody was around, she turned intangible and followed after the two of them.
Danny sighed, "He's always scheming isn't he?" He asked as Jazz shook her head.
"Let's not make today about him," Jazz whispered as Danny held her closer to him as they looked on at the grave marker as another gust of wind overcame the area.
Robin was perched ontop of one of the buildings, observing the passing young archer below him. He knew that Artemis Crock was the same person as the Artemis on the Team. He smirked as he thought of how easy it was to figure it out. Having the same first name as both identities was just asking for people to figure it out.
His thoughts shifted to his brother, who was currently away. Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom, it was also just as equally as easy. He was surprised when so few people knew both of their identities. Turning his attention back to the green archer, he noticed that she was heading over to one of the zeta tubes. It was disguised as a simple phone booth, which wouldn't draw suspicion to its real cause of operations.
She was about to open the phone booth when Robin decided to jump down quickly and stealthily. Artemis didn't notice the young teen until he spoke, "Artemis?" He asked with a smirk on his face as she let out a gasp of surprise, turning her body towards the newcomer.
"Robin!" Artemis yelled as the surprise hadn't fully left her face. She quickly needed to come up with a cover story as to why she was in Gotham of all places, and not in Starling City where her 'Uncle' was. "I-Uh…" She trailed, stalling for time.
Robin knew exactly what she was doing as he took a couple of steps towards her, "How random that you're in Gotham city!" He exclaimed, getting straight to the point, "Instead of Star city where your uncle Green Arrow lives?" He asked rhetorically, knowing that he had her cornered.
Artemis had an unwavering face, "I-Uhm…Here to see my cousin!" She provided the lie easily, but not easily enough that it would get past the teen wonder. "She was in the state spelling be! Here! In Gotham!" She replied.
"C-O-O-L," He spelled out, letting her know that he wasn't going to press any more questions, "Did she W-I-N?" He spelled out again, knowing it would draw on her nerves.
"N-O!" Artemis spelled out as she narrowed her eyes at the teen.
Robin grinned, "D-R-A-G…" He trailed out in mock sympathy.
Artemis stared at him for a second and decided to end the conversation quickly, "Yeah, alright, let's just go to the Cave!" She yelled out as she placed her hands on her hips.
"Ladies first!" He called out as he let out a bow and placed his arms towards the phone booth.
"Your town!" Artemis responded back as Robin stood up straight, "You go!" She ordered.
Robin let out a small shrug as he opened up the phone booth and let the zeta tubes teleport him. He disappeared, and Artemis didn't waste a second longer as she teleported as well. When she walked into the Cave she was met with smoke.
"Get back!" Robin called out as a fireball came out of the smoke. Artemis skillfully dodged as she pulled out an arrow and aimed it and the smoke.
"Who are we fighting?!" She yelled over the multiple explosions being produced all over the Cave.
Robin did a flip backwards as he landed on the ground. He wasted no time as he pulled out two discs and flung it into the smoke. He heard them being deflected by something metal-like. "Don't know," he mumbled as he took a few steps backwards.
A chuckle erupted through the area, "Come now, Robin…" The voice trailed as a sword went hurtling at the two teens from the smoke, "Don't tell me you've forgotten our meeting already?" He asked rhetorically as the two teens dodged the sword in two separate directions. Heavy footsteps came from the smoke as an armored man appeared with a mask over his face. His lone eye was looking at the two teens menacingly, "After all, a face like mine is hardly worth forgetting," he mused out in amusement.
"Deathstroke…" Robin and Artemis growled at the same time. Since they both knew the man, they exchanged equal looks of confusion. "You know him?" They asked simultaneously, making them even more confused.
"I was a little disappointed that you two weren't at your little…" He trailed as he picked up the sword and swung it to the side, "Hideout," he finished as explosions collided behind him. "New target!" He yelled over the explosions. They suddenly stopped and the smoke started to clear, "Get Robin and Artemis," Deathstroke instructed as he eyed the two teens.
Robin clenched his teeth as he flung an explosive disk towards where new steps of footsteps started to emerge. He ran past Deathstroke, who eyed him with an amused glance. The teen wonder bent down and picked up Artemis, "We have to go!" He yelled as he helped the girl to her feet.
Artemis scowled, "You think I don't know that?" She asked rhetorically. Robin ignored the outburst as they started to run into one of the corridors of the Cave. He took out the rest of his explosive disks and hauled them at the rock that was being exposed above them. "Robin, don't!" She started to yell in protest but the teen did the action anyways.
The reaction was instant as the rock ceiling started to collapse. It made a rock wall that made a barrier in between the threats, "Don't?" He asked as he turned towards her, "I'm stalling for time!" He yelled as he started to run past her.
"We need…" She trailed as she looked at the rock barricade and jumped when she heard something banging against it aggressively, "We need to contact the League!" She argued as she ran after the teen.
"Don't you think I've tried to do that already?" Robin asked in a snappy tone, "We're dealing with Deathstroke in case you haven't noticed!" He yelled as he ran past empty rooms and shook his head when he hadn't found his teammates yet. "He disabled communications right from the start…" He mumbled darkly as he narrowed his eyes behind his domino mask.
Artemis scowled at being lectured, "I know what Deathstroke is capable of!" She argued as she shook her head, "He's an assassin that works for the Light," she stated as Robin slowed down and came to a complete stop. "What?" She demanded in a short tone.
Robin walked over to her, "He works for the Light?" He asked as Artemis looked away, "You were withholding information and didn't deem that as important?" He asked, glaring at the older teen.
"We shouldn't be arguing! We need to find the others!" Artemis tried to dodge the topic. Robin didn't need to know about what background she comes from.
"I don't think you understand!" Robin snapped as Artemis took a step back. She was intimidated by the teen in front of her, "If you know what he's capable of, then you must also know that we might not be able to find the others!"
Artemis didn't enjoy being lectured, "I know!" She yelled back as Robin placed a hand on his head, "I just don't want the others to be…" She trailed as there was a blast that was coming from behind her. She turned around only to be met with a fireball to her face. Before the fast fireball hit her face, Robin ran into her, making her fall to the ground harshly.
Robin grumbled as he looked up and noticed two red androids looking at him emotionlessly, "Red Tornado prototypes…" He trailed as he then heard a clapping in the distance, though it was drawing close.
"Very good, Robin," Deathstroke applauded as he stopped in front of the two teens, "On the barrier as well as my robot's identities," he mused as the two androids started to approach the two of them. One of them was armed with a fireball and Robin forced Artemis to roll over. The teen let out a stifled cry as the fireball scorched his back in the process.
"Get up!" He ordered as he hauled the teen girl to her feet, knowing that staying in this area was a death wish, "We need to keep moving!" He yelled as she grabbed his arm unconsciously. Her hand started to tremble in his. She was surprised that he wasn't scared or even terrified at being in this situation. They ran at their top speed down the corridor, Artemis being surprised that Robin could even manage to do that when he was injured.
"How…?" She mumbled out that Robin had to strain to hear it.
The teen wonder raised an eyebrow, "How, what?" He asked to her.
Artemis swallowed the nervousness in her voice, "How can you remain so calm?" She asked in a voice that was barely above a whisper. She felt that if she spoke any louder, her voice would crack and she would burst into tears.
"Experience," he responded back to her.
"How can you look danger in the face like that? Aren't you distraught? We don't have powers! We can't win against them!" Artemis yelled back as Robin glanced back at her with a serious expression on his face.
"Get traught, or get dead, Artemis," he responded in a deadly serious tone that she bowed her head slightly as she looked down at the ground of the Cave as they ran down the corridor. "Batman and Green Arrow don't have powers," he responded as she looked back up at him, "And they're still alive," he mused with a cocky grin as he looked back at her for a split second, "They must be doing something right," he encouraged as he took a sharp turn into the area where the library was.
Artemis nodded as he let go of her hand and tapped on his hologlove and pulled up the blueprints to the Cave, "I knew it was around here…Ahah!" He yelled as he pulled out a book. He watched the book case recede into the wall as it revealed a passageway, "Hurry, we have the advantage!" He ushered as he took off into the darkly lit passageway.
Robin waited for Artemis to catch up before pulling the bookcase back to where it was, causing the two of them to be enveloped in complete darkness, "Now what?" Artemis' shaky voice came out, echoing slightly in the small passageway.
"Now we see what happened to our friends," Robin said with a smirk as he plugged his hologlove into the wall of the Cave and a blue screen popped up, illuminating the small passageway with light.
"What did you want to speak to me about, Mr. Masters?" Bruce asked, not much caring for being away from his two grieving children.
"Ah, something simple…" He trailed as he placed his hand into his suit jacket and pulled out a yellow envelop. He placed it in front of Bruce to take.
The man eyed the envelop with curiosity as he took it with a harsh grip and opened it up, "What is this?" He demanded darkly as his eyes narrowed at the title of the document that was inside.
"Exactly what it is titled as," Vlad stated nonchalantly, "The funniest thing about all this is that you've thought that you were winning," he stated cryptically, "When in fact, I've just been stalling for time…" He mused as Bruce's hands tightened around the envelope. "You see, I always get what I want, Bruce; plain and simple. You're no obstacle to me."
Ellie floated invisibly over to where Bruce was to see what was going on. Her eyes widened as she skimmed the document. She placed a hand over her mouth to prevent herself from letting out a gasp. She started to fly over to where was Danny was. He needed to know.
Bruce placed the envelop by his sides, "You must have corrupted the system…" He mused angrily.
"That would be illegal," Vlad stated the obvious as he crossed his arms, "I've played the legal system as it should be. You've had your chance, Wayne," he spat out as he started to walk away. "I'll be back in two days," he stated cryptically.
"How?" Bruce asked as he skimmed over the document once more and then placed it down. "Plasmius…Masters must have used him to do this…" He trailed as he started to walk over to where his family was.
"Danny, it's been too long!" Valerie yelled as she hugged him tightly. Danny returned the hug with a small smile and then pulled away.
Tucker placed a hand on his best friend's shoulder, "A lot has changed since you've left, dude," he stated with a small smile.
Danny let out a coy smile, "I see you two are an item now," he teased Tucker as the tech nerd let out a nervous chuckle.
"I hope you're okay with it," Tuck whispered into his best friend's ear, "You two…You know…" He trailed as Danny's smile enlarged.
"Perfectly fine with it," Danny stated as he put his hands up, "I'm really happy for you, man," he mused as Tuck smiled back.
Ellie floated down on the ground harshly as she turned visible, "Danny! Danny!" She yelled, out of breath as she pulled on his shirt to get her older brother's attention.
Valerie's eyes widened, "I-Is that…?" She asked as Tucker grinned and bent down to Ellie's level with a fist clenched, "Up top Danny's little sister!" He greeted as Ellie just looked at him with a blank expression before redirecting her focus to Danny.
"Danny! Please listen!" Ellie yelled again as she pulled harshly on his vulnerable white shirt.
"Ellie!" Danny yelled as he turned towards her, "What's wrong?" He asked as Ellie opened up her mouth to explain but was interrupted by a hand on her shoulder. She looked up and noticed Bruce with a stern expression on his face. The man shook his head and she narrowed her eyes before getting the message.
"Nothing…" She mumbled in frustration as she pulled away from his grip and started to walk away from the area where everyone was.
Valerie smirked at her boyfriend, "You really have a way with kids, don't you?" She teased as Tucker stood up with a frown on his face.
Danny placed a hand on his head and rubbed it nervously, "Ellie just doesn't like strangers," he mused as Valerie chuckled at this making Tucker frown deeper.
"I'm not a stranger, I'm your best friend!" Tucker argued as Valerie and Danny gave him a sly grin.
"Stranger…" Jazz added nonchalantly for effect as she quickly looked away.
Tucker slumped his shoulders, "Now that just hurts!" He mused as the rest of teens laughed at the expense of his misery.
Bruce showed a ghost of a smile at the scene, "Alright, how about we get back to the hotel? You all can catch up tomorrow, but we all need to get some rest."
"Jet lag is terrible," Valerie mused as she looked over at Danny, "I'll see you at the Nasty Burger tomorrow for some more catching up, right?" She asked as Danny nodded with a smile.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," Danny responded back.
Tucker let out a small frown, "It's a shame that Sam is on a business trip with her parents," he said in a dark tone, "She really wanted to be here for you," he stated with a crestfallen expression.
Danny nodded in understanding, "She's here in spirit, Tuck," he stated as Jazz grinned.
"I'll make sure to eat a veggie burger for her," she stated as everyone else grinned. "See you all tomorrow!" She said as she let out a small wave.
"Where's Ellie?" Danny asked as he looked around for his little sister, "Ellie?!" He yelled out as he cupped his hands over his mouth.
Ellie sat on a large rock and placed her elbows on her knees, leaning forward slightly, "Why won't anyone listen to me?" She asked in a depressed tone.
"Who would pay any mind to what a mistake has to say?" Vlad asked as he appeared from thin air.
"Huh? What did you say?" Ellie played off the insult as she glared in front of her. It had a good view of Amity Park and she didn't want it to be ruined by the appearance of her 'dad'.
Vlad chuckled, "You surely do have Daniel's wit," he mused as he walked over to her and leaned against a tombstone that was shaped like a devil.
Ellie glanced over at him, "You should stay like that. It fits you," she snapped at him as she glanced back in front of her. They were like that for a few more seconds until Ellie felt her eye twitch involuntarily, "Why are you going after Danny?" She asked as she sat up straight.
"Because he belongs to me," Vlad responded immediately.
"You're sick," Ellie retorted back as she placed her arms behind her, "You think this plan of yours is going to work?" She asked, drawing Vlad's attention, "Your plans never work," she stated as she pointed to herself with two index fingers, "See exhibit A!" She stated with false enthusiasm.
Vlad chuckled darkly, "You admit that you were never meant to exist?" He asked, trying to get under her skin.
"Your words don't hurt me anymore," Ellie stated as she glanced over at him with a raised eyebrow, "You just sound like a pathetic broken record," she mused as they met eye contact.
"My words may not hurt you…" He trailed as Ellie's eyes widened as to what he was getting at, "But they certainly affect Daniel," he mused. "You can't stop what is going to happen to him. You have half the power he does."
Ellie scoffed, "That's not true," she stated as she faced forward again.
Vlad stood in front of her at this point making her look at him, "I designed you that way, Danielle," he stated, making the younger half ghost start to doubt herself, "You'll never be as strong as Daniel. No matter how hard you try, how much work you do, you'll never be what he is."
"Who says I want to?" Ellie snapped as her eyes flashed green. Vlad took a step back, noticing the change in the clone's demeanor. "I'm my own person, Vlad," she stated as she stood up, cracking her fist with her hand, "If I want to beat your butt, I will," she stated as she took another step forward. Green electricity crackled together from her knuckles, "And I'm going to get my brother away from you," she glared as she stopped walking, "You know why? Because you are always destined to lose," she said in an eerily calm tone.
"Everyone has a breaking point," Vlad mused as he shrugged and then stared down at the pissed child in front of him, "I'll admit that perhaps you weren't a mistake…" He trailed as he looked at the girl one more time before disappearing.
"Ellie!" Danny yelled as he ran over to her. Ellie turned and noticed how worried he looked, "You could have gotten lost!" He lectured as he let out a relieved sigh at seeing his little sister fine.
Ellie washed away all traces of anger, "I'm twelve, Danny, I wouldn't have gotten lost," she said dryly, "And besides, you worry too much!" She chided happily as she grabbed his hand and started to walk away, "Let's get to the hotel, I want to swim!"
As she walked she tried to not remember what she had done when talking with Vlad. She had created electricity. She was supposed to have an ice core like Danny, but she had an electric core instead? She didn't understand, but maybe it was better if she didn't ask so many questions. After all, she had her brother to focus on and how to get him away from Vlad once and for all.
"Are you really sure you want me to go to Atlantis with you?" Alice asked as she held Aqualad's hand tighter in hers, "The last time I was there…" She trailed as she looked down at the water. They were in the water training area of the Cave. M'gann and Super Boy were working on his motorcycle just a short distance away from them.
"I am positive," Aqualad stated as he peered into her eyes. He placed a hand gently under her chin and made her look up at him, "You are important to me. I want to show you to my friends."
Alice felt her face blush up as she quickly looked away, "Wow," she stated as she placed a stray piece of blue hair behind her ear. "Base two already, huh?" She asked to herself in a low tone.
Kid Flash zoomed into the room with a grin on his face, "Here's that wrench you asked for, SB!" He yelled as he held the wrench up to Super Boy's face, whose body was incredibly close to M'gann's. "You two are getting pretty cozy!" He mentioned as he turned towards Alice and Aqualad.
"Shut it, Wally!" Alice yelled as she threw some water at the speedster, soaking him slightly. It was at that moment that the water users stood up, "Do you feel those vibrations?" She asked as Aqualad nodded.
"Something is heading this way," Kaldur stated as he tried to take out his water bearers, but was stopped when a giant wave wiped out the cameras.
Robin and Artemis looked away from the last known footage, "It was a water attack…" Artemis trailed as she started to crawl over to where the tunnels went deeper, "Alice stopped it."
"You seem so sure," Robin mused as he followed after the girl clad in green, "Alice has shown incredible power, but could she take on three assassins?"
"Absolutely," Artemis said in confidence, "Maybe…" She trailed as she wasn't sure anymore. "We should be approaching the area any second," she said, watching for the grate that would give them a viewing from up above.
Alice was on her knees on the ground and held her arms over her head, "Is that the best you've got?" She edged on as she let out a panted breath. "Come at me!" She yelled as sweat was pouring down her face. A water barrier was around the small group of heroes. Although the barrier provided protection, it was also preventing the young heroes from attacking the small group of androids that were in front of the barrier; their weapons attacking the barrier, making no progress in shattering the protective water barrier.
Aqualad placed a hand in comfort on her shoulder, "You should not taunt the enemy," he stated in slight disappointment.
"You tell them!" Wally yelled as he eyed the masked assassin, "You can't keep us trapped here!"
"You are…An entertaining group," Deathstroke mused as he shook his head, "But you will not last that much longer."
Super Boy growled, "Want to bet?" He asked, getting ready to fight the masked man in front of him.
"When a demi-god has lost their strength to fight, they will disappear," Deathstroke supplied the answer that made everyone in the water barrier eye the one that was making it appear. Robin and Artemis tensed up from their hiding place. "Oh? You didn't know that?"
"Shut the hell up!" Alice growled from inside the barrier as she placed one hand down to the side, losing energy in that limb already.
M'gann ran over to her friend, "You have to stop!" She pressured, "Do not do this to yourself!"
Wally shook his head, "He's just saying stuff, right?" He asked as he walked over to the water user, "To get in our heads?"
"I am afraid he is telling the truth," Aqualad mumbled as Alice let out a huff of annoyance at the truth being told.
"Kaldur, don't-!" Alice started to yell but let out a cough that interrupted her. She spat out blood from her mouth in a huge clump. It landed on the ground and the Team looked on with fear filled expressions.
Super Boy shook his head as he stood in front of the girl, "I am not letting you sacrifice yourself for me," he stated as Alice glared at him. "We've been through too much for you to go out this way."
"Would you ninny's shut up!?" Alice yelled as she coughed again, another clump of blood was shot out and landed on the ground again.
"That's it!" Robin yelled as he jumped down from his hiding space, "Stop it!" He yelled as Deathstroke looked over at him with a smirk from under his mask. Deathstroke was using his friends as bait, and the young boy wonder knew that. "What do you want?" He asked as he eyed the water barrier and sent a concerned glance at his dying teammate.
Deathstroke glanced over at the two robots and snapped his fingers. The red tornado clones stopped attacking the water barrier and remained still, "Robin, place your utility belt on the ground," he ordered as Robin looked on cautiously at the man.
Alice fell over from exhaustion as she immediately fell unconscious. The group of heroes looked over at what was happening and Super Boy moved to help his friend, only to be shot at by one of the tornados. The Team got the message, Deathstroke wouldn't let anyone interfere with their encounter.
"Now!" Deathstroke rose his voice and Robin glared as he did what he was told. "Good boy," he praised as Robin continued to glare at the man in front of him. "Now, the gloves come off as well," he stated as Robin ripped them off with anger that could rival Super Boy's. Deathstroke chuckled, "It was much harder to capture you the last time…But this time you make it far too easy," he started to say as he made his way over to the teen in front of him, "What happened to Artemis?" He asked as he chuckled again, "She was never much of a fighter, unlike her sister."
"Artemis isn't a coward," Robin argued stiffly as the man stood directly in front of him. "She just might surprise you," he stated with a smirk.
Deathstroke looked up at the hiding spot they were previously in and shook his head, "Seems as if she has abandoned you."
Robin's smirk grew bigger, making the assassin question whether he was right in assuming that Sportsmaster's daughter was as big of a coward as he remembered. There was an electric wave that overcame the area, and Deathstroke looked over across the cave from where it came from. He growled when he found Artemis over at an EMP disruptor. When he face Robin again, he barely blocked a punch that was aimed for his head.
In no time at all, the Team joined the fight since the EMP disruptor had ended the androids that was guarding them. Super Boy brought out a punch with a roar as it made contact with Deathstroke's body. He went flying into the water where Aqualad pulled out his water bearers and performed a water attack, followed up by an electric attack.
"This is our turf, Deathstroke!" Artemis yelled as she shot out an arrow that released a net, capturing the man's head. Kid Flash grinned as he took hold of the net and ran across the water before throwing him against the Cave wall.
"You're not welcomed here!" Miss Martian yelled as her eyes illuminated a white color and she lifted the man up in the air, "Get out!" She yelled as he was sent flying through the top of the Cave and into the air. She then dropped him and the Team watched as he crumpled to the Cave floor. Miss Martian, slightly concerned that she had overdone it, cautiously walked over to the broken body, "Did I-?"
Deathstroke chose this moment to wake up and grabbed the girl by the ankle. He stood up and placed a sword by her neck. He pushed a button on the handle and the blade lit up with fire. "Everyone freeze," he ordered, his anger reaching a barely containable level. Robin, who tried to get his utility belt to join the fight was perched over it. "I see you, Robin," Deathstroke warned as he placed the fire blade closer to the Martian, "Move even an inch, and she will be dead," he threatened.
Robin, in fear of what would happen to his friend, remained perched over his weapons, "Good," Deathstroke mused as the whirring sound of the androids rebooting to life was heard throughout the area. "New objective, capture Robin," he ordered the machines.
The androids walked over stiffly to where the boy wonder was frozen and he was lifted over one of their shoulders, "Robin!" Artemis yelled in alarm.
"Great attempt," Deathstroke complimented the Martian off-handedly as he started to back-step away from the area, "If I were anyone else, that fall would have killed me," he stated as he let out a slight chuckle, "But I am not merely a mortal," he said as he shook his head. "Tell Batman that his little toy has been taken away. Somewhere he cannot be tracked."
With that last statement, the masked assassin let out a smoke bomb and made his escape. "Rob!" Wally yelled out as he started to cough. When the smoke cleared, no one was left. "Rob-!" Wally yelled again as he fell on his knees.
Super Boy pounded his fist into a wall leaving a small crater, "He was taken…And we could do nothing!" He yelled in anger.
"We will get him back," Aqualad said in a serious tone as he started to run into the room with the broken zeta tubes. "Team! Help me get these operational!" He ordered as the remaining members nodded their heads in understanding. The leader glanced at his girlfriend and closed his eyes while clenching his teeth as he pulled his attention towards finding their youngest teammate.
"Ellie, why are you so tense?" Danny asked as they stood outside their hotel. The ghost boy rubbed the back of his head tiredly. After having the entire trip being spent with his friends, and his deceased parents, he was drained. "Want to get back to Gotham already?" He asked with a taunting smirk.
Ellie looked both ways as the street was a few feet in front of her, "Listen, I just want to get back to the safety of the mansion," she stated as she remained alert, much to her brother's annoyance.
Danny shrugged his shoulders, "You act like someone's going to attack you," he mumbled as he looked back towards the entrance of the hotel and noticed that Bruce was retreating the building along with Jazz. "I'm kind of ready to head back home, though."
"Good morning, Daniel," Vlad's voice came from in front of him. Startled, the teen turned to the front and noticed that a limo was being pulled up. It stopped when it was in front of him, "Wonderful day, isn't it?" He asked, making light conversation.
"Shove it, Vlad," Danny hissed out as he moved to get away from the sidewalk, only for a buff man to suddenly latch onto his arm, "What-?" He began to ask as he was pulled towards the limo, "Let go of me!" He ordered as he couldn't get his arm free.
Bruce ran toward the limo with a glare, "Unhand him," he ordered in a dark, gruff tone. Vlad merely looked at the man in mild amusement, "Please…" Bruce added as he realized that he had no authority over the situation.
Danny looked over at his sister, who grabbed his hand skillfully, "Danny!" She yelled as she pulled him backwards.
"Now, Bruce, would you care to explain the situation, or shall I?" Vlad asked, not bothering to keep the grin of his face.
"Situation?" Danny asked in confusion as he looked up at his guardian in accusation, "What is he talking about?" He asked hastily, not liking where this was going.
Bruce looked Danny straight in the eye, "It appears as though Vlad Masters has…" He trailed, not liking to hear it out loud. He didn't want to admit that he had let his son down.
Vlad opened the door to let Danny through, "Obtained official custody over you," he finished, not bothering to cover up the brutality of the statement. He watched as the teen's eyes grew wide with fear and shock. "Now, get in the car, Daniel, we're going home," he stated with a smirk on his face.
"Danny!" Jazz yelled as her brother was thrusted from her hand and pushed inside of the limo, "Ouch!" She yelled out as she fell onto the ground backwards.
"Jazz!" Ellie yelled as she ran over to where her sister was, "Are you alright?"
Danny couldn't get over his shock as the door slammed shut and he was trapped with his arch enemy in the limo. Since the window was already rolled down, he heard Bruce's voice from beyond the door. "Danny! Don't give up! I'll get you back!"
Vlad scoffed as he rolled his eyes as he immediately rolled up the window with his telekinesis. There was complete silence now that all outside interferences were canceled, "I hope you don't mind, but I took the curtesy of changing your last name to Masters," he started the conversation as he relaxed deeper into his seat.
"This can't be happening!" Danny yelled to himself as he started to lose control of his breathing, "No, no, no…" He mumbled as he tried the door to his left, but realized that it was locked from the outside.
"Daniel, calm down," Vlad's voice said, watching as the boy's eyes became wide and his breathing became even more uncontrollable. As a last resort, the teen tried his ghost powers, but found that the limo had canceled them out, "We'll be home in no time."
To be continued…
Reviews:
LuffyLover: Heyy, glad you're enjoying the story! The earliest chapters are rough. And by rough, I mean really really rough. I'm surprised you made it through them, though! Welcome to the team, man! And by team, I mean a list of awesome people. Yeah, you're awesome. Totally right about the 'Mistress' vs. 'Master' topic. I didn't know which one I wanted to use, and 'Mistress' doesn't really roll of the tongue like 'Master' does. Poseidon was really weird to write, considering his change of character. I'm not going to lie, I kind of envisioned him with a Hawaiian shirt as well. And bro, I hate open houses for schools. They are pretty stupidly organized. At least, my school always was stupid in that. Alice is really something for an OC. But she isn't immortal, as shown in this chapter. She isn't a Mary Sue at all. Thank you for your support!
jim89: Those are awesome ideas/theories. I especially like the Maddie theory where Vlad has her somewhere inside of the house. So you must not be convinced that she's absolutely dead. Hm. Well, you might be onto something, and you're getting a little warm with where Maddie and Jack are. I feel like Bruce is setting up a game plan. After all, he still thinks that Plasmius and Masters are two different people still. He needs to know his enemy before making a plan, so Vlad won't get away with a lot of the stuff that he has coming along. Jazz definitely didn't help by losing her cool, but she's always been a little short-tempered. Thank you for your support!
SomeItalian: The legendary father has indeed returned! Aqualad and Alice are definitely going to have some problems with his appearance. Poseidon is such a random character, that he might slip up and say something about Alice's past to Aqualad. Some…Not so good things…But who knows, right? Poseidon is really random. Thank you for your support!
Ninuhuju: -Mortal Kombat theme is heard in the distance- Bro, obviously Batman is going to win. He's the mother freaking Batman of Gotham. But you know what they say, no one can predict the ending of a match! Thank you for your support!
Pegasus Sword Master: Go Batman go! Vlad does need to get over himself. But, believe it or not, he gets worse. Way worse than this. Big plans are coming, and a reveal is going to be made that changes everything! Thank you for your support!
KodiakWolfe13: Dude, your writing is da bomb. Your fillers are so much better than mine! And I don't know, the two water users thing kind of struck me out of the blue. Alice, why you so weird to write now? You laughed in the last chapter? Whoa, the only thing that I found was funny was Ellie trying to steal something out of the vending machine! Glad you liked it! Thank you for your support!
Jebest4781: The Kaldur/Alice moments were a complete surprise to me. But, I guess if everyone likes a couple, then I did a good job. I try to include Jazz in the story, but she hasn't had much screen time. In the chapters coming up, she'll have her time to shine. Thank you for your support!
Readthishit: Aw, stahp! You're making me blush! They are pretty compatible with each other, despite their major differences. I'm glad you like them together! Thank you for your support!
Brenne: It came as a surprise to me too! Just sort of happened, but I like it! Aqualad is kind of awkward, but I figured that an Atlantean at a crowded place with humans would be sort of weird. I hope I got it down well enough. The memorial moment is going to be a big turning point in the story! Thank you for your support!
A/N: I AM SUCH A TEASE. The reunion was short lived, but Tucker and Valerie, along with Sam, they won't stay away for long. The scene with Ellie and Bruce was there because he wanted Danny to enjoy the reunion with his friends, and not be the bearer of bad news. Just to clear that up. Also, Ellie is a fire core ghost, not an ice core like Danny. I fooled all of you! You thought this was a normal 'Dani' character, you're all wrong fools! Ha! Also, Robin and Danny are Bruce's wards. Somebody has been living on this Earth for a long time. Wonder why they would want to destroy Bruce? Or even how to do it? Well, stay fancy my friends, we're about to get into some hectic climatic stuff! See you next time!
