Chapter 11: What now?

I stayed up on the mountain for a matter of hours until the job was done. But after awhile I decided that I should get up and head back. I got the remaining forces and headed back. I walked into the camp three hours later and found a place to sleep.

In the morning I woke up to find five important looking wolves around me. "'Yawn' Do I do something wrong"? All of them looked at me but one spoke to me.

"No Humphrey, in fact we are here to congratulate you on your victory. "

"With the leader and his special forces gone. The others are soon to fall. "

"We have come here to tell you that we owe you for leading our troops in place of our previous general."

"We all are in debt to you and wish to pay it somehow."

"If their is any thing we can do just tell us."

Not even a second later I told them the one thing that I needed. "My mate, Kate is missing please I need help finding her. Find her and I'll consider your debt paid off."

"Alright, where was she last seen?"

"Jasper." They gasped at that.

"In Death Valley, the place the east and west packs were massacred?"

"Yes but she made it I know, and if not please give me confirmation."

"We will do our best." I watched as they all went in different ways and informed each other about how to go about doing this. Then I walked back to my sleeping area and relaxed. I tried to go back to sleep but sleep eludes me. I couldn't stop thinking about her, that I had sent people out for her and I might have her in my arms by the end of the week. I had a hard time finding sleep with Kate dancing around my head. I finally found rest an hour later or mid day as some would call it. I was still resting from the battle that took place a couple hours ago and I was beat to all hell. The Fighting, running and endurance would tire anyone, but it pretty much killed me.

"Sir? Are you here." I heard a voice say. I stood up. A scrawny, male, black and white wolf came up to me.

"Why is everyone calling me sir all of a sudden...actually never mind. What do you need?" I asked.

"Well I came here to tell you that we have all available resources looking for Kate and any other survivors."

"So you came here to tell me that they are doing what I told them to do? Thanks for the update I already knew."

"Sorry sir. I have been assigned your assistant. I'm Lenard."

"And what then are your specific duties to me?"

"To assist you any way I can."

"You wanna be useful, my adopted son is in Utah's pack. His name is Jared."

"Yes sir I will get him as fast as I can." He ran off into the woods. I walked over to a tree and leaned on it. Then two wolves came up to me dragging a deer in their mouths.

"We were at the battle and wouldn't have made it back if it wasn't for you." One said.

"We thought that you should have first bite sir." The other said.

"Thank you gentlemen." I looked at the deer. I knew from alpha school that the back above the spine is the best meat. I took my meat slab and ate. I then saw my Jared walking towards me.

"Hey dad, I heard you were really brave."

"I did what I had to, Jared."

"That's cool, dad." I saved a little bit of meat for Jared and we ate together. We talked with the two soldiers and my assistant for the rest of the day.

At some point I fell asleep and at around what was maybe midnight I saw my assistant coming up to me with wide eyes. "Sir, they found her." I jumped up with excitement.

"Where, is she alive, when can I see her?" I shot at him.

"She's outside jasper with nine others. We have timed everything and if we leave now for the train station we will be there by sunrise."

"Then we'll leave now." I ran toward the tracks as fast as I could. Carelessness to the wind. I heard the train, it came into my sight and the only available car was a flatbed. I jumped onto the car as did my assistant, Jared and a few others that got picked up on the way.

"I need to tell you sir." My assistant started. "The council of the wolf leaders has appointed you the rank of general. Since there are no conflicts you have a pretty laid back job."

"Thank you."

"Your welcome sir."

The rest fell asleep but I stayed vigilant. I ran scenarios through my mind of what could happen. What if Kate found someone else. What if she was dying or mortality injured. What if…what if, things ran through my head so much I didn't realize how long I had been contemplating it.

"We're here." My assistant screamed. All the others woke and got ready to jump I saw to wolves down the tracks a way. But I figured that they were who I would talk too. I jumped off the train near enough to the other wolves. I followed them to an opening and in the clear, she stood, she stood as beautiful as ever. She looked my way as we slowly drew nearer to each other. Once we were about a foot away I pushed my luck and kissed her lips. She didn't reject. We stayed with lips locked until we couldn't hold our breath any longer.

"Missed you Humphrey."

"I missed you too." I looked her in the eyes. "And I promise never to leave you again."

The end.

A/N well that took longer than it should have.
