Intense Trembling Chapter 14

Yukio sat patiently waiting for a response as his brother opened and closed his mouth like a fish, eyes darting around indecisively but then he spoke.

"I... I mean... Are you sure?"

Yukio's lip curled up a bit in confusion and disbelief.

"I mean maybe it was an accident! Maybe you knocked into me by accident!-"

"Niisan."

"-Or you thought about it but it was just the wind or I tripped or somethi-"

"How are you so stupidly oblivious and naive?"

Rin flinched at the harsh words.

"You truly amaze me sometimes."

Yukio aggressively released his hand from his brother's feeling a light sting at the older's hurt expression.

"Yes I pushed you Rin."

Rin felt a pang at not being addressed as his 'niisan.'

"I pushed you over the railing and it was absolutely no accident."

In that moment the exorcist wished his mouth would shut up. But he didn't stop. He couldn't.

'"It was no accident. I really meant it. I've had it out for you since day one. Since you tainted me with that dreadful demon-seeing curse, from the first time you undermined my strength by defending me, since I had to sacrifice my childhood to become an exorcist , since you killed father, since I worked so hard to become an instructor to stay close to you and yet you get everything. All of it and more." He stood in from his seat forcing his brother to back away.

"The extroversion, the courage, the strength, the friends. Brains are meaningless when it comes to being human. To being able to feel. Why are you more human than me? Why can you feel more than I can?" His voice became strained as it rose "Why do you get to have everything? Why should you get to have EVERYTHING?! WHY CAN'T I BE MORE LIKE YOU?!

In that same moment Whisps of cerulan flames shot from around his ears, his eyes turned a more intense shade of teal, his pupils went a violent shade of red behind his frames.

Ms. Yuushi eyeballs the fire extinguisher incase of further development while Rin fell back scooting away in shock and horror. The terror and surprise was evident in his eyes. He gaped.

Yukio... This can't be...

He choked on the words that wanted to come out. Not only had his brother been hiding these vengeful thoughts towards him he was awakening as a demon! Or exactly what, he wasn't sure. Yukio is normal? His body is too weak. It couldn't be?

"Yukio I'm really sorry about all those things but I think this is more important did you feel what just happened? We need to get help, we need to get Shura, tell Mephisto something!"

He tugged on his twins hand but the exorcist stayed rooted to where he stood.

"Yukio please! Come on there has to be something someone can do! Some kind of explanation!" He tugged again. He tugged and tugged at the larger of them with all his will, not using his demonic strength. He didn't want to harm his brother.

"Yukio please!" His voice became a desperate plea.

The younger gasped as his brother collapsed to his knees weakly tugging on his hand.

"This can't be. This can't be right. You're supposed to be the normal one. The safe one. I-this can't... Yukio."

Just then a small sob escaped the demons mouth and Yukio couldn't help but feel at a loss for how to react. It had been quite a while since he'd last seen Rin cry. His brother rarely cried.

"Niisan." He knelt down to console his twin all the previous rage gone from him, if anything he felt a sudden weight lifted off if his chest after the outburst. He actually felt a little… better. He turned his attention back to his twin.

"You were supposed to be safe. Yukio... You're wrong! You don't want to be like me!" He looked up at his twin.

"You really don't! As cool as it may seem sometimes I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Especially not you... I don't know what to say about the grudges you hold against me for the other stuff but as far as strength you are the second strongest person I know and-and you don't want the kind of strength I have. It's dangerous, me even being alive is a sin, a danger to myself and others! I could one day lose control and become a senseless monster! I could one day snap and hurt all of you. Everyone and their mother from Gehenna and back is out to get me. The one thing I always had confidence and comfort in was that you would never have to be dumped further into this mess and-and now I... I don't know what to do."

Another sigh escaped his lips.

The younger was speechless. Even after Rin heard his brother confess all those spiteful things he still couldn't stop thinking of Yukio and his feelings.

Yukio felt sick to his stomach and though his shoulders felt noticeably lighter at telling the truth he felt that same loving and hateful sting towards his twin. He was infuriatingly dense and yet he had such a big heart and simple, pure reasons for all of his doings. The talking to him more, inviting him to hang out with his friends, trying to get him to laugh, all of it. Rin was amazing at so many things and he realized how much he admired and hated Rin for those things. He had a burning envy and jealousy but a love for him at the same time.

"I... please" Rin's tone was desperate, "please until we figure out what to do can you please keep this a secret?"

She sucked in a breath and looked between the two of them. They looked so terribly sweet and vulnerable, the older now clinging to his brother and the younger not making any protest about it.

They were just kids. Demons or not at the end of the day they were just kids. Just two young boys but that's not what the vatican or the rest of the world sees when looking at them. She let out her breath in a sigh. She concluded that she could care less about keeping her job Or being targeted herself. She cared for these boys as she got to know them. There was really only one option.

"Alright. Until you figure this out further or at least until you let me know you've told someone who can be more of a help."

"Thank you! Thank you so much!"

Rin threw his arms around her in a big warm hug awkwardly as she had never stood from her seat.

"Uh... Niisan hey..."

"Oh it's alright." She lightly squeezed him back.
