Chapter 14
"Miss Toadette?"
"Huh?"
Toadette looked up from her desk as she wasn't paying much attention
to the teacher. Most of students were giving her slightly odd looks,
and even Peach was giggling from her seat.
"Toadette, the answer to the question?" the teacher said while growing
more impatient.
"Uh... 64?" she answered nervously.
"Correct, now can you come up to the board and explain how you
got that answer?" he asked with a smartboard marker in hand.
Toadette looked at the clock,
"Only a few more minutes..." she whispered.
She got up very slowly and inched her way to the teacher at a very slow pace.
The teacher knew what she was planning and spoke,
"Miss Toadette, you are NOT leaving this classroom until you explain the answer!" he said sternly.
Toadette sighed as she walked up to the front, grabbed a marker, and proceeded to "explain".
"You take this, then multiply by this, subtract this, and divide that... Done!" she said while placing down the marker.
The teacher eyed her work suspiciously, as some of the students snickered and giggled.
"Maybe, if you paid more attention to the lesson, you'd come up with a more reasonable answer." he
responded unimpressed.
"Nonetheless, class is dismissed! Don't forget today's homework assignment!"
Many students bolted out the door, so they could have more time to talk with their friends.
Others casually walked out, and Toadette ignored the teacher's annoyed stare as she was the last to leave the classroom.
As she was walking through the hall, she saw Mario and Peach talking and laughing with each other.
Ever since they started dating, Mario hasn't paid much attention to Toadette like he usually does.
She gripped her books more tightly with anger, as she thought she saw Peach smirking at her when she passed by.
She arrived at her locker and roughly spun the dial, as Christine stopped by.
"Well?" she questioned as she can always tell if Toadette was upset.
"Peach... again!" Toadette groaned as she switched out her books.
"I bet she thinks that because Mario and her are... mates, she has an upper advantage over me."
"Well..." Christine started.
"Dating the most popular guy in school has its advantages..."
"Yeah, well those advantages shouldn't be given to her." Toadette said while thinking of Peach.
"Well, you kind of have Toad... no one hates Toad." Christine commented.
"But, no one seems to be crushing on him either..." Toadette mumbled.
"I highly suggest that you just let go. Forget about Mario, since he's really Peach's property now"
"Phhft, as if..." Toadette scoffed.
"Look, it probably wasn't going to work out either." Christine countered.
"But he was really into me! I bet if Peach didn't step in, he'd be mine!" she spoke.
Christine rolled her eyes slightly.
"You just don't understand, do you?" she mumbled while walking away.
Toadette stared in her direction while glaring at her back.
"I don't understand? Ha! She doesn't understand..." she thought as she closed her locker.
*Brrrrriiinng!*
The Lunch Bell sounded through the quiet hallways and the classroom speakers.
Eager students speed-walked towards the lunchroom, while others walked and talked
with their friends. When it comes to tables, it's always the "first come, first serve" method.
Some have "reserved" tables, but they can easily be claimed by a large group if they're fast enough.
Sometimes, it's just best to have so many friends that you can rely on for a good seat.
Toadette was currently walking towards the table where she always sat, not too far from the "Popular Table".
The Popular Table is almost like a VIP section in the middle of the Lunchroom. Students would need a
miracle to happen to even get a chance to sit there. Even if someone is successful, it'll only take one wrong
move to get themselves kicked out.
That's why only Popular students sit there, because almost no one can match them except for their friends.
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and a few others were chatting amongst themselves at that very table, and Toadette
casually walked by as if she didn't care. But in reality she does... everyone does. She sighed as she placed her
tray down next to Sophie's and sat down.
Christine examined Toadette's glum face, and whispered to Lindsey,
"I told you she didn't get over Mario..."
Toadette looked over at Christine with a slight frown on her face.
"You don't even know how it feels to like someone, and have
someone else take him away from you." she mumbled.
"Yeah, and I'm glad I don't because I'd probably end up depressed like
you." she said simply while eating her salad.
"I also didn't leap for an ledge that I couldn't reach, because I
knew I'd end up falling down an abyss of sadness."
"Well, who said I couldn't reach that ledge if I tried?" Toadette countered.
"To me, you already missed and failed miserably." Christine finished.
Toadette looked down at her tray of food, slightly hurt by her friend's words.
"Hey."
Toadette looked up at Christine again.
"I give you credit for trying at least, but now that he's with Peach,
I don't suggest bothering them." she remarked.
"So you're still saying that I don't have a chance?" Toadette asked.
"No, but you should be careful who you're messing with. Or, you might
be swimming in a pool of boiling water for the rest of high school." Christine replied.
Toadette looked at her with a confused expression.
"It's an expression, you don't have to get it." Christine reassured while getting up.
"Just don't get into trouble. K?"
"Ok" Toadette replied with a weak smile.
This was just a short chapter which was the day after the dance, and Toadette's reaction to
Mario and Peach's relationship. The next chapter will introduce a new event to the story.
