Blonsky watched as Shaman was loaded onto the chopper and evacuated to a medical facility nearby. Tibbits, Shang and Masterson stood back as the chopper took off and disappeared from sight. Ross approached the team and looked behind them at the building where Banner had escaped "So I see you met the Hulk" said Ross knowing that things were about to get dicey since he had failed to mention it Blonsky or the team.
"What was that thing?" asked Shang sitting down on a boulder that was outside the building.
"Bruce Banner was a scientist working on the Super Soldier Serum, he believed that he could use gamma radiation to unlock the human potential, but an accident exposed him to the radiation and created the monster you saw here tonight" explained Ross noting the stunned faces from everyone but Blonsky, who had a look of determination on his face.
Shang stepped forward "I must report to my superiors" he stated walking away from the rest of the group. Masterson and Tibbits headed towards one of the other choppers and boarded it hoping to return back to base and compose themselves. Ross walked into the building and found himself followed by Blonsky.
"So that green beast was Banner?" asked Blonsky still trying to wrap his head around the fact and needed to hear it again. Ross nodded prompting Blonsky to shake his head and pace around the building. He looked at the hole in the wall that Shaman had been thrown through and then at the doorway the Hulk had demolished during his attack. "Shang is calling in so that he can be reassigned" explained Blonsky knowing that Shang wasn't interested in fighting big green monsters.
"I know, once word gets around Tibbits and Masterson will be called back as well unless they can convince their superiors to let them stay" stated Ross seeing his task force quickly falling apart.
Blonsky sat down on the stairs and thought through their options, clearly Banner was dangerous and needed to be captured in order to protect the public. "If only I could find some kind of way to bring him down to my level" said Blonsky knowing he couldn't stop the Hulk.
Ross thought for a moment before turning to look at Blonsky "What if I could put you on his level?" asked Ross bringing about a very confused look from Blonsky. "I have a blank check, and I know where I could get some of our Super Soldier Serum that we have been able to synthesize, it won't be the same effect as with Banner but you could certainly become faster and stronger" explained Ross.
Blonsky stood up with a determined look on his face "That certainly sounds like a plan, sir."
Bruce had managed to find a ride on the road after finding his way out of the swamp, if he had learned one thing on his journey around the world it's that most people will help you if you need it. He wondered if Ross and his soldiers were tracking him and made sure to keep himself out of sight just to be sure. Bruce thought about contacting Rick Jones but decided that perhaps it would be best to find his own way to New York since he didn't want to expose Rick any more than he had to since he had already taken such great danger in helping him so far. He knew the journey would be tough but he figured he could find someone to help him get into the US and from there getting to New York would be easier since he would have his bearings.
Clint and Natasha were sitting on a plane waiting to find out if they were heading back to base or if Banner had eluded Ross and still in play. The plane was heading for Panama City regardless and the plane ride was quite relaxing for Clint who was enjoying the rare opportunity to decompress from their stressful job. Natasha on the other hand was continuously checking her phone for order from Coulson or Fury but only found oddly worded sarcastic text messages from Tony Stark who was attempting to convince her to work for him at Stark Industries instead of working for Shield. She shook her head knowing that Stark would be a far more terrible boss than Fury or Shield would be. Clint's phone buzzed and he opened it to find a call from Coulson "Where is Widow?" he asked with a hint of fear.
"She's right here why?" replied Barton with a hint of confusion.
"We have been trying to contact her but we couldn't get through" explained Coulson. Clint relayed this information to Natasha who huffed something about Stark and forcibly put her phone in her pocket. "We have news, Banner escaped and seems to be heading for United States border, we believe that he may be trying to cure himself of the Hulk and needs equipment he can only find there" explained Coulson giving the agents the information that they needed.
"So what's the play?" asked Barton.
"If we knew where he was exactly we would send you to help him cross but we will have to trust Banner and hope he can get where he needs to go without our help as for you two, Fury wants you to tail Ross and his special forces unit" ordered Coulson.
"Where are they?" he asked feeling that a he was about to put a lot of frequent flyer miles to his name.
"Fury is talking with Ross now and will get the location from him whether Ross realizes it or not. Til then just sit tight" ordered Coulson hanging up the phone.
Fury found himself standing in the same room with Ross once again staring down the Security Council who was demanding an update on the Hulk situation. "Banner managed to escape after our contact betrayed us for his own gain" explained Ross causing a groan from a few of the members.
"Clearly General Ross lacks the necessary resources to contain the Hulk and if his men are as untrustworthy as his contacts, perhaps it is time for Shield to take over operational control of capturing the Hulk" stated Fury hoping to nip it in the whole situation in the butt before Ross did something foolish.
"Now hold on, my men were unprepared for the Hulk and I am already making strides to bring the Hulk down" explained Ross with a little bit of panic in his voice. Fury looked at him and Ross continued "We are moving our base of operations to New York where I will personally oversee a program that will directly increase our capabilities almost immediately and put us on the cusp of capturing the Hulk."
Fury pondered what Ross could be talking about and looked at the Security Council who was clearly considering letting Ross continue. Fury sighed knowing just on the looks on their faces that he had lost the argument but at least he knew where to send Barton and Romanoff. "Very well Ross, but do not fail to capture the Hulk again or we will be forced to hand command over to someone else" one member said before the screens all cut out.
Ross sighed and turned to leave "What kind of program are you talking about Ross?" asked Fury being unable to think of anything that the government or Shield was working on.
Ross smiled at Fury "That's need to know information and you don't need to know." Ross walked out and Fury called up Coulson in order Barton and Romanoff to New York.
