Bella sat on Edwards lap twirling a piece of his bronze coloured hair in her fingers. The Cullen household was deathly silent. Only Edward had remained instead of going to Alaska to visit the Denali's.
" Edward I'm really worried about Jake. He's been acting so strange lately. I mean he barely talks and he won't eat anything."
This made her even more worried because it reminded her of herself when Edward left. She cringed remembering that horrible time. Edward noticed and pulled her closer.
" I'm sure he'll be fine. Now can we talk about something other than that mutt?"
She sighed. She wished Edward would at least not call Jacob a mutt. She knew they didn't like each other but he could at least be polite.
" Edward-"
The ringing of his cell phone penetrated the room. She frowned and he smiled apologetically.
" Edward let me talk to Bella! Now!"
He silently handed over the phone. Alice' shrill voice shot through.
" Bella go to Jacobs house! He's going to do something completely stupid and idiotic and- just run okay? And hurry!"
" Alice! What are you talking about? I thought you couldn't see the wolves?"
She sighed.
" I may not be able to see their future but I can see yours. And this is going to affect you very, very much."
Bella handed the phone to Edward and started to run out the house to her red truck. She hopped in and drove to La Push. For Alice to be that panicked something horrible would have to be happening. She pulled into Jakes yard and ran to the house.
"Billy?"
No one answered and she remembered Charlie saying that him and Billy were going fishing at breakfast. She ran into Jacobs room and heard a gasp of pain. Jacob lay slumped over on his bed. A knife lay beside him. She screamed as she saw the blood pouring from a hole in his chest.
" Jake! No!"
His head turned slightly toward and she saw his beautiful eyes blank. His tanned skin was no longer visible beneath the red tattoo of the blood. Then slowly, so slowly the last of her Jacob left. Only a corpse was left.
"Jake?"
She didn't even register walking over to him. She touched his hair, his face, his arms. She collapsed and held him in her arms. She rocked him and whispered his name over and over. He was asleep. Just asleep. He would wake up and tomorrow they would go to First Beach and she would try and cheer him up. She didn't move not even when she heard Billy come home. Not when she heard his gasp or his scream. Not when her father came. Not even when she felt Edwards arms try and pull her away. She looked into Jakes- no not Jakes but the body's eyes and screamed. And screamed and screamed. She only stopped when she felt the pinch of a needle in her arm and blackness over came her.
