Sup guys, Lighting Wolf here! Back with another story, this one about Gears of War. Enjoy the 800-word chapter. I don't own Gears of War; Epic Games and a few others do.

The Onyx Guard… Was mostly a joke and most of the soldiers within it had aware of that. They hadn't been active during the war much as many of their members had been whittled down by the war or butchered by the Lambast.

Many of them weren't away which only meant they had been saved by the superweapon which had taken them offline. Their enemy had dropped dead on fields of battle according to them and been carted away by dozens of Gears. They hadn't given a second thought as to what the hell these creatures had died from.

"And today? We will be celebrating the decisive victory over Locust forces in this area." Several of the elite soldiers heard as they rolled their eyes and cluttered around the tv.

"Is she for real?" One of them asked before he looked at the others around him. "A million damn people or more died and we get a damn parade celebrating it?" He asked before he shook his head.

All of the elite COG soldiers stayed silent. They knew what would happen if they spoke. Each of them had their own opinions on which this had come down to it.

"A lot of us just want to forget the damn war happened." One of them said before he turned towards them.

"What the hell is happening next?" He asked before he picked up his helmet and hefted it in his hand before he placed it on his head. "Jenkins? Turn off the damn tv, we're going to report to the Commander and get the next mission ready." He ordered before he looked to the rest of the squad.

"Just trying to clear up the mood, sir," Jenkins stated to which he was greeted by silence. "We're going to need to move out sooner or later. We're not going to be able to attend it at this rate." Jenkins heard as he clicked his pistol ready.

"Doesn't mean much when it comes down to it. Command never seems to give a damn what we're dealing with and all they do is send us on recon ops."

"Let the grunts do all the damn work while this comes down to it. We're all dealing with it differently." He heard as he sighed and rolled his eyes, too amused by his men and their antics.

There was an odd thing aboard their base. So very odd and so very weird for them to have to focus much of anything come down this way.

They prepared properly and often enough for this to have some meaning they had some time and effort to prepare for it to have come to this level. He knew damn well the Onyx Guard would be sent to handle some sort of hotshot mission.

It was all they handled before now. He had a lot more on their mind when it seemed to have come to an end. This wouldn't have ended for now and it would all come crashing down.

"We need to get going, sir. We're going to be late anyway." He heard as he shook his head back and forth. "I know this suck, but at least it sucks today and not tomorrow." He heard as he joked before he rolled his eyes and held up a single finger.

"We always need to get the hell going, Derek." He stated as he shook his head. "Let's go, Mountain Squad. They're damn well going to be sending us to one of the settlements… At least then we're going to be able to relax. There's a lot of this crap every damn day." He stated before he questioned what the hell was going to have happened before today was all over for now. This hadn't yet had to be prepared more and more when it came down to it.

They had oh so damn much coming that just had to be sorted outwards more and more. If anything? All he did know was this was a nightmare that wouldn't die or could die.

Little did he know that they'd be meeting a few gears that they'd all find rather odd when it came down to it.

He had something else on his mind. They had a lot more to focus on anyway when this was said and done.
