Everything was perfect. It was the way her life should've been.

Even though she didn't have a happy beginning, Yuki was determined to make the most of her new life. She wasn't going to let the past affect her future. To live the life she wanted completely was her end goal.

Her life was amazing and full happiness... until that fateful day.

She could vividly remember the stench of iron-filled blood hitting her nose, the sight of crimson red substance splashing against and staining the wooden walls and floorboards beneath her. Paralyzing fear and terror coursed through her veins, screams of horror, cries of pain, and violent shaking of her body was remembered all too well.

Tears ran down her cheeks as she was forced to watch, forced to remember, the sight of grizzly remains laying on the floor beside her feet.

Behind her, she could hear laughing, chuckling, snickering, but, most of all, the absolute hatred they had for the people who were laying unmoving, lifeless, and completely still on the ground. Those people weren't moving at all but it didn't stop those from behind to continue the sick games they were playing. Even though Yuki begged them to stop, they didn't listen. They just continued on playing.

Yuki shook her head and forced her mind back to reality. She stood in front of Michiru's house, the sun beginning to set behind her slowly, looking at the phone in her hand. She had answered a call earlier from Michiru and she sounded frantic, depressed, and secretive on the other end. It nearly freaked Yuki out.

"Michiru! It's been so long! Where have you been?" Yuki had answered quickly seeing Michiru's name pop up on the screen.

There was silence on the other end. Yuki could sense the hesitation on Michiru's end and waited patiently for her to start speaking. With her phone pressed between her ear and shoulder, Yuki started getting dressed to go out to her home. She changed into a white shirt, light blue pants, pulling the zipper of her violet hoodie up her chest, combing her long brown hair, and tying the laces of her black and white sneakers, all the while Michiru still stayed silent on the other end.

As Yuki grabbed her wallet, she heard Michiru sigh, "I've… been going through a lot."

Yuki's heart dropped slightly and bit her lip. "I know, Michiru. With Nazuna gone… life feels like it's been a little rough lately—"

"There's something else, too. Something that I've been hiding from you and from everyone else."

Slight nervousness crept inside Yuki's stomach as she fled her house, without saying as much as a goodbye to her grandfather sitting on the couch. Grabbing her bike from the driveway, she began to pedal towards Michiru's house as fast as she could. With one hand on one bike handle, the other holding the phone to her ear, Yuki softly asked, "What is it, Michiru?"

A small sigh sounded.

"I'll show you when you get here," She spoke.

"How'd you know-?" Yuki began to asked confused but Michiru giggled, "I know how you are, Yuki. As soon as someone sounds like they're in distress, you always go running towards them to make sure they're okay. Thank you, Yuki."

Yuki smiled and spoke, "I'll be there in 10 minutes."

Then, there she was standing in front of Michiru's house.

She knocked on the door but found it slightly open already. Stepping in, she slowly began to make her way to Michiru's room. Knocking on her bedroom door, the door cracked open and Yuki almost yelped when she was dragged into the bedroom at the speed of light. The hand that had grabbed her felt fuzzy and something nicked her skin too! She couldn't see what it was or where Michiru stood. The bedroom was completely pitch black; the only light she could see came from the laptop sitting on the ground.

"Michiru?" She spoke out loud.

"Hi, Yuki," She heard her speak.

Yuki almost broke down crying hearing her voice. She waved her arms everywhere, hoping to touch her, speaking, "Michiru! It's been so long since I've heard or seen you! It's been almost a year since anyone has seen you! Everyone at school misses you! Can we turn on the light so I can at least hug you?"

"No!" Michiru gasped but Yuki's finger had already flicked the light on.

Yuki almost gasped seeing Michiru… completely different. Michiru had dark brown fur covering every inch of where her skin used to be, paws replaced her hands and feet, short blue hair with black ends, a tail with a black end, her brown eyes changed to a teal color, and black pointy cat-like ears on her head. She didn't look like the Michiru she knew a year ago.

Michiru didn't try to hide herself after Yuki had seen her. She hugged her arms and sighed, "I transformed… into a beast. That's the big secret I've been hiding from everyone. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings by avoiding you but, I understand if you don't want to be my friend anymore."

Yuki only smiled and leaped forward, grabbing Michiru and holding her in a tight hug. "As if a tail and some ears are going to stop me from being friends with you," She giggled.

Michiru pulled back, shock and surprised. "But why?" She gasped.

Shrugging slightly, Yuki simply answered, "Let's just say, at one point, the most important people in my life were beastmen."

"You never mentioned that to me!"

"You never asked!"

Yuki and Michiru giggled together and embraced each other in another, longer, hug.

She didn't care Michiru used to be a human and had turned into a beastmen, something that was completely unheard of to her, but she was just glad she got to see her best friend again.

When Yuki pulled away, she asked her, "Will you be coming back to school soon?"

Michiru looked slightly guilty but didn't hesitate to answer, "No, I'm not going back." Before Yuki could ask why, she added, "I'm going to move to Anima-city and live there along with the other beastmen. Just until I transform back into a human."

"Anima-city? You mean, the city where only beastmen can live and thrive? Where no humans are allowed to enter?" Yuki gasped.

"The very one."

"Are you planning on going by yourself?"

Michiru looked at her like she was crazy. "Of course, I'm going by myself. I don't want to drag anybody else with me and make this problem a burden on them. I don't plan on coming back until I cure this disease I've been infected with. Just being near you makes me nervous! I don't want to infect you either!"

Yuki grabbed Michiru's hands and looked her sternly in the eye. "You're not going by yourself; I'm coming with you."

"What?! No, you can't!"

"I can, and I will!" Yuki spoke bonking Michiru lightly on the head. "What kind of friend would I be if I let you leave to a city you know nothing about all by yourself? I have more experience with beastmen than you do. You need my help and I'm not going to let you go alone."

Small tears welt up in Michiru's eyes and she hugged Yuki tightly once more. "Thank you, Yuki. You really are a good friend."

"Of course. If it wasn't for you or Nazuna, I wouldn't know where I'll be right now," Yuki smiled.

Michiru wiped her tears away and nodded her head in determination. Flicking her red hood over her head, she said, "All right, let's go then."

Yuki and Michiru fled her home and began to run down the sidewalk side-by-side.

With the sun still going low behind the horizon, orange and yellow rays of sunlight streaming across the orange and red skyline, Yuki let her head bask in the wind and sunlight. Even though she and Michiru were leaving the city she had formed a friendship, Michiru's hometown, and where Yuki had been living in the past 5-6 years, they were leaving to a place where they could possibly be happy.

On the way to Anima-city they go.
