Chapter 1

In the early morning of a small town known as Pallet Town, a thirteen-year-old boy named Ash Ketchum was getting ready to start his adventure throughout the world and become a Pokémon trainer.

Ash had just turned 13 just a few months ago in May and had patiently waited until the beginning of the new league season to arrive.

The day was the first of September, which marked the beginning of the new season for trainers all over the Kanto region.

The Kanto region was considered to be one of the most powerful regions in the world and held the title of a major region. Throughout the entire world, there were only six regions that held the title of major region being Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos.

There were still plenty of regions throughout the world, just not with as much influence or power as these six. They were known as minor regions with Alola, Galar, Paldea, and Orre being just a few of them.

Kanto was the neighboring region of Johto with them both established on the same continent. Despite Kanto and Johto having separate gyms and league conferences, they shared an elite four and champion.

Besides Kanto and Johto sharing them, each of the other four major leagues had their own elite four and champion as well.

The region also had eight major gyms with plenty of minor ones.

The major gym leaders, elite four members, and champions were publicly recognized as the thirteen pillars of each region. Those who were responsible for the protection of their respective home.

Each region also had a Pokémon professor. A Pokémon professor is considered an expert on Pokémon in their respective region. Each professor has their own field of research based around Pokémon.

In Kanto, the official Pokémon professor was Samuel Oak. Professor Oak is one of the biggest figures in the entire world and is believed by many to be the one who had the biggest impact and changed the way the world operated with Pokémon. In his youth, he was considered to be a very powerful trainer who could have become the champion himself if not for his desire to study Pokémon. He is instrumental in the advancement of Pokémon tools such as Poké Balls and potions throughout the past several decades. His main field of research is concentrated on Pokémon and human relationships.

Several years ago, Professor Oak created the device known as the Pokédex. The Pokédex is an invaluable tool for trainers and researchers all over the world. It gives information about all known Pokémon in the world that is contained in its database. However, they are also only given to a few Trainers at a time, generally to the ones that are felt to have exceptional potential and skill.

Every year, Professor Oak sponsors three new trainers and gives away three very rare Pokémon alongside a Pokédex to three upcoming trainers who had scored the highest on his personally made Pokémon trainer exam.

These exams were made solely based on finding out how efficient a person would be as a trainer. Upcoming trainers all over the region take this test in hopes of being able to get the sponsorship by the man.

Ash was one of the three trainers who got the highest score on the exam meaning he would be getting the sponsorship. Seeing as he had been born and raised in Pallet Town, which happened to be the place where the professor resided, the exam hadn't been very hard as he had been personally taught by Professor Oak. Ash had spent most of his youth learning from the professor and playing with the Pokémon that lived in the laboratory or the ranch where Oak lived.

Gary Oak, the grandson of Professor Oak, had been one of the three to pass the exam as well. Ash and Gary had grown up with one another and had spent a lot of their time together. They were friends and rivals.

The other trainer was unknown to Ash though.

As Ash was going through his backpack to make sure he had everything he would need on his journey there was a knock on his door.

"Come in!" he called out.

The door opened to reveal a young woman known as Delia who was Ash's mother. Delia is a slender woman with fair skin and amber eyes. Delia has smooth brown hair that she keeps in a ponytail with a green scrunchie. She was wearing a pink short-sleeved jacket with a yellow undershirt, a purple skirt, and light green shoes.

In contrast, Ash had black hair with lightly tanned skin from all the time he spent outside. His eyes were the same amber as his mother's. Ash's outfit consisted of a blue collared shirt with short sleeves, white trim, a black undershirt, dark blue jeans with a black belt wrapped around, a red and white hat, and red high top sneakers.

"Good morning, Ash! Do you have everything ready?" Delia asked with a soft smile on her face. There was a small amount of sadness in her eyes at the thought of her only child leaving to explore the world, but she hid it well so as to not make her son feel bad about leaving.

"Yea mom, I just finished rechecking my backpack for the sixth time." he replied with a smile on his face barely being able to conceal his excitement.

"That's great sweetie. I just finished making breakfast so come on down and eat as you don't want to start your journey on an empty stomach!".

"Okay!"

Ash quickly zipped up his green backpack before slinging it over onto his back. Following his mom, he looked back to his room one more time before closing the door.

Following his mom downstairs and to the kitchen table, he found a plate of pancakes, eggs, and bacon ready for him with a side of orange juice.

"Thanks, mom!" Ash said.

"Of course!" she replied.

Ash set his bag by his chair before sitting down and beginning to eat his mom's food while trying to savor it as much as he could. His mom was the best at cooking. She runs Pallet Town's only restaurant, Pallet House.

"So, have you decided on which of the regional starters you want as your partner?" his mom asked as she drank a cup of coffee.

The regional starters were very rare and potentially powerful Pokémon. Each region had its own starter trio with the same format. A three stage evolution with the first stage consisting of a fire, water, and grass type.

The Kanto trio consisted of the grass type Bulbasaur, water type Squirtle, and fire type Charmander.

Bulbasaur was the easiest of the three to raise. They were an oddity among the regular choice of starter trios as he had dual typing in his first form with the race being registered as a primary grass type with a secondary poison typing. They were great for immobilizing Pokémon and draining them slowly with status effects. Their final evolution Venasaur was considered by many to be the most powerful grass type Pokémon in the Kanto region.

Squirtle was the best option when it came to defense. They had hard shells that only got stronger as they evolved. Alongside their amazing defense, they had powerful water attacks and strong jaws. In their final evolution, Blastoise was a tank that could hit back just as hard. They were able to penetrate steel with their water attacks.

Charmander was the main offensive type. They had very powerful flames that could leave battlefields in ruins if trained properly. In their final evolution, Charizard grew wings which gave it an even more offensive capability. They were considered the hardest to train out of the Kanto trio as they demanded respect once they reached their final form and would ignore trainers they deemed unworthy.

"All three of them are amazing and I would be happy to have any of them, but I do have a preference for Charmander." Ash stated honestly.

"A Charmander would be great to have. You would never have to worry about having a source of warmth." Delia commented softly.

"Yea, but the first two major gyms are rock and water types which are super effective against fire types. I would need to train hard before the first gym and hopefully find a few good Pokémon to help with the battles as well." he said while finishing up the last piece of his food.

"Hmm, well the Viridian Forest is filled with Pokémon. I am sure you'll be able to find some to add to your team."

"Yea, it consists mainly of bug types which are weak to rock types, but they are also weak to fire types. If I do get Charmander then I plan to take advantage of that and train a lot while in the forest."

"Well, at least you have an idea of what to expect and what you want to do. Do you have any specific Pokémon that you want to capture?"

"Not really, I plan on just catching whatever Pokémon catches my eye while traveling. The only Pokémon I plan on capturing is a Rhyhorn. They herd between Pewter City and the entrance to Mount Moon. This is mainly if I do end up with Charmander though as the Charmander line is built for offensive with very little defensive capability. The Rhyhorn line has an amazing defense, but that would also mean that both my Pokémon would be very weak against water types."

"You want to challenge only the major gyms, correct?" she asked.

Ash nodded. He didn't want to take the easy route and go to a minor gym.

"Well, then worst case scenario you could skip a gym if you need to and come back to it later after capturing more Pokémon and training more. You'll have two years before the Indigo Plateau Conference begins which is plenty of time."

Unlike most regions that had their conference every year, the conference for both Kanto and Johto happened every other year. Since they shared an elite four, they switched each year. The Kanto conference just happened this year which means Ash would have an extra year to train before it came back around. He was happy about that as it gave him more time to prepare. He wanted to make a splash at his first conference and the more time he had to prepare the better.

"Yea, you're right."

Ash sipped the rest of his juice before standing up. Grabbing his dishes, he quickly took them to the sink and prepared to wash them.

"Don't worry about washing them, Ash. Go ahead and get your starter!" his mom called out with a smile.

"Okay!" he said quickly as he picked up his bag and rushed to the door.

"I'll be back in a bit." he called out before opening the door and running out into the front yard.

His house was luckily very close to the professor's laboratory, so he quickly arrived in front of the building and knocked on the door.

The door opened to reveal one of the few assistants that Professor Oak had.

"Oh, good morning, Ash." the male assistant that Ash knew as Jay said.

"Good morning, Jay. How are you?" Ash asked.

"Tired, you know how the professor is." Jay commented with a sigh.

Ash smiled at that. The professor was a very hardworking man and tended to forget to take breaks. This also meant that his assistants were constantly working as well.

"Come on in the other trainer just arrived a few minutes ago." Jay said as he stepped to the side in order for Ash to enter.

Ash quietly walked inside and followed Jay to another room. Opening another door Jay led Ash to another room that had a whole bunch of equipment around. Inside the room were three other people, two of whom Ash knew very well.

The first one was Ash's childhood friend Gary Oak. He is a tall, thin young man with light skin, black eyes, and tall, brown spiky hair. He is wearing a long purple shirt, dark gray pants, a yin, and yang necklace, and brown boots with black straps encircling them.

The second one was a female around Ash's age whom he had never met before. She is a young girl with fair skin, long brown hair, and brown eyes. She was wearing a white hat with a red Poké Ball logo. She has on a light blue sleeveless shirt, along with a red miniskirt. Underneath she has matching, long socks, and athletic shoes.

The last one was Professor Oak himself. The middle aged Pokémon professor has gray hair and sports a light lilac polo shirt underneath his lab coat. He was wearing a brown belt supporting his beige pants along with matching brown loafers.

"Good morning, Ash." the professor said with a smile toward the young boy.

"Good morning professor!" Ash said excitedly.

"Alright, Ashy boy is here gramps so let's get started!" Gary Oak said out loud cutting to the chase.

The professor chuckled at his grandson's eagerness.

"Very well, you three are probably eager to get going. I remember how excited I was on the first day of my journey. Before anything though, this young lady is Leaf, and she is the other new trainer who will be gaining her starter today." the researcher said as he looked towards the young girl who seemed a little nervous.

"Hello." she replied quietly.

"Hey, my name is Ash, nice to meet you!" he said with a smile. She nodded with a smile before looking toward Gary.

"My name is Gary." he replied with a nod before looking back toward his grandfather. Leaf blinked before turning back to Ash who shrugged.

"Don't mind him, he's just excited to get started."

She hummed softly before turning her attention back to the professor.

"Great! Why don't we get you three your starters." Oak said with a smile as all three of the upcoming trainers clearly showed their eagerness.

"Sounds great!"

"Yes please!"

"Finally!"

The older Oak chuckled as Jay approached him with a small tray that had three balls on it. The top of the balls was red with the bottom of it being white. There is a black horizontal band circling the ball. The button in the center of its front was white. These were known as Poké Balls. Alongside the balls were three handheld devices of different colors.

"Now, normally I would give the highest scorer the chance to choose their Pokémon first, but before we do that, I would like to know the preference each three of you have."

"I want Squirtle!" Gary instantly called out

"I don't really mind either of them, but I would choose Bulbasaur first if I had the chance." Leaf replied.

"Same for me, but I would go with Charmander." Ash said with a grin. This means that each of them would be able to get their preferred choice.

"Well, that makes things easier now doesn't it." Oak chuckled.

All three of them nodded eagerly.

"Okay, now I want to admit that since this year of trainers happened to be not only my grandson, but one of my students I decided to get a special batch of the trio for you three. Normally, the trio that I give out have a basic move set, but the three that I am giving to you each have two powerful egg moves!" Oak said with a grin.

"Ahh, really gramps!" Gary said with a matching grin on his face.

"Yup, now then let's get started with introductions. Leaf you may go first."

Professor Oak ushered the girl to come closer and gave her the ball on the left side of the tray.

"Go on ahead and release him." Oak said softly.

Leaf nodded before pointing the ball toward the ground and pressing the button on its center. A red beam of light is released from the ball towards the spot she was pointing at. The light begins to shape into a form before fading away leaving only a small creature in its wake.

Bulbasaur resembled a small amphibian, but he had three claws on each of his feet with no tail at the end of his body. He also had large, red eyes and small, sharp teeth. His skin is a light, turquoise color with dark, green spots. He had three claws on all four of his legs. The most notable feature, however, is the bulb on his back that is stated to have been planted there at birth.

"Saur?" the grass type looks around confused before setting its gaze on the girl in front of him.

"Hey, there Bulbasaur! My name is Leaf, and I am your new trainer." Leaf said with a gentle smile.

Bulbasaur looks at her for a moment before giving a small nod and laying down. He lets out a big yawn before closing his eyes.

"Leaf, this is your Pokédex. I will be giving one to each of you. The Pokédex is one of my creations and operates as an encyclopedia for all Pokémon related information. It will also work as your form of identification. I will link each device to the information provided to me on your exam once you leave." Oak states as he hands Leaf one of the devices that had been on the tray. It is a green color.

"You can use it manually like a computer to find information on a specific Pokémon through the internet or if you come across a Pokémon, you can scan said Pokémon and it will provide you information on it. Whenever you capture a Pokémon, there will be a more detailed description of your Pokémon on your device. Why don't you try it out on your Bulbasaur."

Leaf nods as she opens and points the device toward the sleeping grass type. The device speaks out loud in a robotic like voice.

Bulbasaur the Seed Pokémon. The seed on its back is filled with nutrients. The seed grows steadily larger as its body grows.

This Bulbasaur is male and has the ability Overgrow which powers up grass type moves when the Pokémon's health is low.

Moves are Tackle, Vine Whip, Power Whip, and Magical Leaf.

"Do remember that despite being able to use the egg moves it will still take quite a while for them to be able to properly use them at their full power." Oak says seriously.

"Okay, thank you, professor!" Leaf says with a big smile.

"Of course, now Ash, why don't you come next."

Ash grins as he walks up to the researcher and is handed an identical ball. When looking closer though he notices that it has a small sticker on it that has a fire symbol.

Looking towards the professor who gives him a nod he pushes the button.

Charmander was a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon with a primarily orange body and blue eyes. Its underside from the chest down and the soles of its feet are cream-colored. It had two small fangs visible in its upper jaw and two smaller fangs in its lower jaw. A fire burns at the tip of this Pokémon's slender tail.

"Hey Charmander, my name is Ash. I want to become a Pokémon Master and hope you can help me achieve that. I will help you grow as strong as you can!" Ash says with a soft smile towards the fire type. Charmander looks up at him curiously before giving an eager nod at the last part.

The Pokédex he was given is a red color this time.

Charmander the Lizard Pokémon. The flame that burns at the tip of its tail is an indication of its emotions and health. The flame burns brightly when Charmander is strong, weakly when exhausted, wavering when happy, and blazing when enraged. It is said a Charmander will die if the flame goes out.

This Charmander is male and has the ability Blaze which powers up fire type moves when the Pokémon's health is low.

Moves are Scratch, Ember, Dragon Dance, and Dragon Rush.

"Oh wow, you have a great move set Charmander!" Ash said happily. The fire type smiled up at his new trainer while the flame on his tail waved around.

"Alright, my turn!" Gary said moving forward.

Oak chuckled as he handed his grandson his ball. Gary was quick to release his starter.

Squirtle was a small reptilian Pokémon that resembled a light-blue turtle. It had large reddish eyes and a slightly hooked upper lip. Each of its hands and feet has three pointed digits. The end of its long tail curls inward. Its body is encased by a tough shell. This shell is brown on the top, pale yellow on the bottom, and has a thick white ridge between the two halves.

"Alright Squirtle, I plan on becoming the best trainer in the world. You think you got what it takes?" Gary said with a smirk at the turtle as he crossed his arms over his chest.

The water type gave a nod as he mimicked his new trainer with a smirk and arms crossed.

The Pokédex that Gary was given is blue.

Squirtle the Tiny Turtle Pokémon Its shell is not just for protection. Its rounded shape and the grooves on its surface minimize resistance in the water, enabling Squirtle to swim at high speeds.

This Squirtle is male and has the ability torrent which powers up water type moves when the Pokémon's health is low.

Moves are Tackle, Water Gun, Aqua Jet, and Aura Sphere.

"Alright Ashy boy, now that we have our starters let's go outside and battle!" Gary calls out eagerly.

"You up for a battle Charmander?" Ash asks looking down at the fire type.

Charmander gives an eager nod as his tail burns a little brighter.

"Okay boys, why don't we head out to the back for your battle? Leaf, would you like to join us?" Oak asked, looking toward the girl.

She thinks about it for a moment before shaking her head.

"No thank you, professor, I want to go and get started." she responds.

"Very well." he says as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out five Poké Balls.

"Here, alongside your starter and a Pokédex, I will also be giving the each of you five Poké balls to start off with." he says as he hands her the capture items. He pulls out ten more before giving them to Ash and Gary.

Ash attaches them to his belt that he had purchased a few weeks ago. The belt is specially designed to hold onto Poké Balls.

Leaf and the professor speak quietly for a moment before Leaf looks towards the two boys and gives them a small wave and goodbye.

"Alright boys, let's get to your battle now."

Both boys nodded and proceeded to follow the elderly man out of the laboratory and into the back of the huge ranch. The entire field was filled with Pokémon of different types.

Before any of them could say anything, a huge Pokémon slammed into the professor.

The man chuckled as he pat the big dog like Pokémon known as Arcanine.

Arcanine is a quadrupedal canine with an orange pelt marked by jagged black stripes. It has diamond-shaped ears with beige insides, black eyes, a round, black nose, and two pointed teeth protruding from its upper jaw. Its head, muzzle, and chest are covered in shaggy, beige fur, except for two oval sections around each eye and ear. Long tufts of fur grow behind its elbows and around its ankles. Its underside is black, and it has a billowing, beige tail that is bent in the middle. Each paw has three toes and a round, pink pad.

"Nice to see you as well old friend." the professor says softly.

The Pokémon lets out a soft sound as she rubs against the man.

"Ash and Gary are going to have a battle, would you like to watch?" Oak asks curiously.

The canine stops and looks toward the two young trainers. They both give waves as the beast lets out a happy bark.

Arcanine was one of the main Pokémon that Ash and Gary spent with as children. Powerful, but friendly, the female fire type had gone around with them whenever they played to make sure they didn't cause too much trouble.

"Alright, let's start!" Gary said quickly as he began to move a distance away from Ash with Squirtle following his lead.

Ash turns his attention towards Gary with Charmander wordlessly steps in front of him. Squirtle copy's the movement and faces the fire type.

"Okay, this will be a one on one battle. Begin!" Oak said with Arcanine roaring right next to him.

"Squirtle, use Water Gun." Gary called out.

"Dodge Charmander!"

The turtle Pokémon sucked in a deep breath before releasing a strong stream of water straight toward the fire type who barely managed to jump out of the way.

"Ember."

Charmander, just like Squirtle sucked in a deep breath before releasing a small burst of fire that was perfectly aimed at the water type.

"Squirtle, go inside your shell!" Gary quickly shouted.

He was quick to follow his trainer's command as he withdrew his entire body into his hard shell before the fire attack hit. Ash was disappointed to note that the attack didn't even leave a mark on Squirtle's shell demonstrating how powerful the shell was.

"Water Gun!"

Without even coming out of its shell Squirtle released another blast of water toward Charmander that caught him off guard and hit him straight on his chest.

The little lizard let out a cry of pain from the super effective attack.

"Alright Squirtle! Now use Tackle!"

"Charmander get up and dodge!" Ash shouted.

Squirtle's popped out of his shell and rushed toward his downed opponent. Charmander tried to get up to dodge the attack but showed that the previous attack had left its mark and was quickly tackled by the turtle.

"Scratch Charmander!" Ash called out in a panic.

Squirtle, who was on top of Charmander after the tackle had no time to react as the lizard quickly slashed toward its face with its sharp claws.

The water type let out of cry of pain as the attack pushed him off his opponent.

"Ember!"

"Go back in your shell!"

Before the turtle could withdraw into its shell once more, he was hit by the stream of fire as he was too close to Charmander and had no time to react.

Charmander took a deep breath to calm himself but was clearly hurting.

Squirtle who was back on his feet was panting slightly, but less damaged compared to Charmander due to the fire being naturally weak against him.

"Ember!"

"Water Gun!"

The two Pokémon sucked in a deep breath before releasing their attacks at the same time. The moves met in the middle, but the water attack easily overpowered the embers of flame and hit Charmander straight in his face instantly knocking him out.

"Charmander is unable to battle, Squirtle is the winner." Oak called out.

"Oh yeah! Great job Squirtle, you're the best!" Gary shouted as he ran and picked up his Pokémon.

Ash sighed as he grabbed Charmander's ball off his belt and recalled the unconscious Pokémon.

"Good battle boys. Despite being new trainers, you did very well. Gary, good job using your Pokémon's body to its advantage. Ash, you did well to counter Gary's attack, but remember that while type advantage doesn't always determine the tide of a battle, it can still impact the results." the veteran trainer said, getting a nod from each of the boys.

"Alright, why don't you two follow me back to the Laboratory and we will heal up your Pokémon." he said with a smile.

They both followed the man into the laboratory and allowed him to patch up their starters.

"Okay, I am going to get going now, gramps. Try not to lag too much behind Ash!" Gary said after being handed back Squirtle's ball from his grandfather. With a wave, he was walking out of the door and began his journey.

"Oh, that boy, I hope he keeps in contact." the grandfather said with a tired sigh. He turned back to Ash and handed him Charmander's ball.

"Don't worry about losing the battle Ash. Everybody loses. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and grow from them." he said with a small smile.

Ash looked up at the man and returned the smile.

"I will professor. Charmander and I will get stronger and beat Gary next time!"

The man chuckled.

"Good, now do remember to keep in touch alright? You can contact me at any time if you have any questions."

"Okay, I will professor, thank you." Ash replied.

Oak gave a nod and waved before returning to the back of the lab.

Ash looked at his Poké Ball before releasing his starter.

Charmander looked around before setting its gaze on Ash. He gave a sad sound as he looked down towards his trainer's feet.

"Hey, don't worry about buddy. We will make mistakes, but we will also learn from them and make sure they don't happen again. Next time we battle Gary we will win." Ash said softly as he knelt towards the lizard.

Charmander looked into his eyes, blue meeting amber, and gave a firm nod. Ash smiled as he placed his hand on his head.

"Alright Charmander, our journey starts today, but would you like a name before that?" Ash asked.

Charmander tilted his head with a curious expression on his face.

"A name that belongs to you, just like my name is Ash." he elaborated.

Charmander looked thoughtful for a moment before giving Ash a nod of confirmation.

"Alright let's think then."

They sat there for a few moments, Ash thinking of a perfect name for his starter and Charmander waiting patiently for his trainer.

"How about Azrael?"

Charmander gave a toothy smile alongside a nod.

"Alright, Azrael it is." he replied happily.

Scene Change

"He's a cutey." Delia Ketchum gushed over her son's Pokémon.

Charmander looked towards the ground trying to hide his face from the comment.

"So, have you decided if you are going to attempt the Pewter City Gym or go on ahead and come back another time?" his mother asked him.

"I want to get to the city first. Who knows, maybe I will find a Pokémon that will be able to help."

"That's good. Don't plan too much ahead as you never know what could happen that would throw your plans into the trash." she voiced out.

He agreed with his mom.

"Okay, I think it's time we get started. We are already behind the other two, but I wanted to come and say goodbye first." Ash said to his mother.

Delia gave him a soft smile before pulling him into a hug.

"I know you are going to do amazing, but please be safe sweetie." she said softly.

Ash closed his eyes as he hugged his mom back.

"I will mom, I promise."

Azrael looked at his trainer and mother quietly as they said farewell.

His mom pulled back and looked toward Azrael.

"Make sure to take care of my son Azrael." she said seriously towards the little lizard.

He gave her a determined look and a hard nod. She smiled and she patted the fire type on his head.

With a final goodbye, Ash walked out of his house one last time.

"Be sure to change your underwear!" his mom called out.

A flushed Ash walked a bit faster with a confused looking Charmander jogging to keep up with his trainer.

They walked in silence for the most part with Ash giving greetings to the people he passed by with them wishing him luck on his journey.

Pallet Town is a small town located in southwestern Kanto. For the most part, everyone who lives there knows each other due to how small it is. Decades ago, Pallet Town hadn't even been on the official Kanto map, but when Professor Oak decided to end his battling career and become a researcher, he had decided to establish his home and facilities in the small town. His presence became that of a guardian for Pallet Town as his original team would often be spotted dealing with any cases of wild Pokémon. For the most part, the wild Pokémon located around here weren't too strong, but the town was connected to the sea, so it wasn't too uncommon for a powerful water type to be seen near the shore like a Gyarados.

Once Samuel Oak began to be recognized for his achievement in research for Pokémon, he had Pallet Town officially given a spot on the map due to the man's influence.

Walking towards the exit of the town, Ash found the sign for Route 1 right in front of him. Looking back toward Pallet Town, he turned toward his starter,

"Alright Azrael, would you like to travel by my side or return to your Poké Ball?"

Azrael seemed to ponder the question for a moment before pointing toward Ash with one of his sharp nails.

Ash nodded.

"Okay, then let's get going. It's still early so let's get some distance to Viridian City. I want us to stop down the road to train a bit, so we will probably camp out for tonight and get to the city tomorrow before noon. Does that sound good to you?" Ash asked.

Azrael gave an enthusiastic nod after hearing the training part. He was eager to begin and get stronger.

Ash could respect that.

"Let's get going Azrael!"

And thus began the story of a champion.

Ash's Team

Charmander Male (Azrael)

Here we are again. I saw that the story "Challenger" had been updated again and it gave me the motivation to fix this story up. If you haven't read that story, then I would suggest reading it. It's a great story!

Other than Charmander, Ash's team will be different for the most part from the original. I only have the first 6 Pokémon that he will catch planned. I think in total I would like him to have between 8-12 Pokémon.

Anyways, as you can tell I changed Charmander's name from Inferno to Azrael.

Azrael is known as the Angel of Death. I had considered naming him Uriel, who is the Angel of Fire, Vulcan, who is a God of fire, or just keeping Inferno as his name.

Chapter 2 is done and will be published next Friday!

Let me know what you guys think!
