The sun was setting on Shizuoka while Kyouka walked down the streets with a small limp to her step, still dressed in her school uniform.
The young girl had just gotten done with a hard day of training and let out a long groan, looking up at the orange sky. A nice summer breeze brushed past her face, making her feel calm and forget about the soreness around her body for a split second.
Then it came back and reminded her of her current goal. To meet up with Izuku at his place and hang out with him the entire day. That's the only thing that can make up for all that harsh training.
Kyouka had spent most of her morning working out in her house before getting a surprise call from school for training early in the afternoon.
She was very tempted to ignore the call and ditch, but she knew she would get in serious trouble with Aizawa if she did. There was also the hope of seeing Izuku there, but he wasn't. The only other classmates that were there were Sero, Tokoyami, Kirishima, Mina, and Momo. When she texted Izuku about it, he said he had a call to be at school an hour before she did with his own group.
She didn't bother asking about his group, having a small feeling that he was involved, and having that confirmed would only aggravate her. Right now, the only guy she wanted on her mind was her hero.
Momo did call her and the other girls to meet up at school at a certain time, but Kyouka skipped out on that meeting to go see Izuku right away.
She finally reached her destination, entering the apartment complex and soon making it to his door. She put on a smile and proceeded to knock on the door.
After a few moments of waiting, Inko opened the door, smiling at the girl. "Oh, Jirou. This is a surprise. You usually give a heads up before you visit."
Kyouka rubbed her arm, smiling back at the woman. "Sorry, I kind of decided to visit out of the blue after going through a tough day at school. I did text Izuku that I'd be coming over. Did he not tell you?"
Inko placed her hand on her cheek. "Ah, that makes more sense. You see, Izuku isn't home right now."
Kyouka tilted her head. "Oh, he isn't? Do you know how long he'll be gone? I could always wait inside if it's not a problem with you."
"No, um, Izuku left the country."
Kyouka's eyes slowly went wide, lifelessly staring at the woman. "What? Not in the country, you say? For…For how long?"
"Hmm, he didn't tell me himself, but that tall, blonde, lanky man who works at U.A informed me that it would be a couple of days." Inko explained. "Izuku and the man were in such a rush, so I didn't get a proper explanation of the reason he had to leave. But I trust my baby if he's going to be chaperoned by a member of U.A's staff."
"A couple of days…?" Kyouka counted from her mental calendar, and an alarm in her brain went off. "But that means he'll be there for his birthday!"
Inko sighed. "Yes, it's a shame, but at least we could celebrate it the day after. I almost wanted to make him stay, but he seemed so excited to go on this trip, so I didn't have it in me to tell him. But at least that gives me an extra day to bake a cake that'll top all the ones before. It can give you an extra day too to work on what we talked about."
"B-But I don't want to wait another day. It has to be on his birthday. I have to give his gift as well." Kyouka was starting to panic before hastily, yet gently, placing her hand on Inko's shoulders. "Do you know where they're going?!"
Inko's eyes shifted upwards to try to remember. "From what I can recall, it was a place called I-Island. I've heard about it on the news before, but all I know is that it's a moving island, and it's filled with scientists."
"I-Island, got it!" Kyouka let go of the woman's shoulder before giving her a quick bow. "Thank you very much, Mrs. Midoriya! I'm in your debt! I have to get there!"
"It's no problem. But how are you planning to get the-" Before Inko could finish, she was left in a cloud of dust. Despite that, she smiled, looking off into the distance. "I hope you two lovebirds manage to reunite on that island."
Momo was standing outside the front gate of U.A with the other girls, save for Kyouka, trying to figure out how to pick who gets the tickets or not.
Mina raised her hand. "Ooh, we can pull straws!"
"Rolling dice can work." Tsuyu suggested.
"Rock Paper Scissors is always the best option!" Ochako pumped her fist.
Momo smiled, gesturing her hand toward Ochako. "That game sounds like it is the fairest to all of us."
The rest of the girls agreed before all getting in a circle and pulling their hands back while Toru pulled back a sign.
"Rock, paper, scisso-"
"Hold up…Do ya'll see that?" Mina pointed forward, seeing a huge cloud of dust in the distance.
Ochako narrowed her eyes to where Mina was pointing and nodded. "Oh yeah…It looks like it's getting closer."
"Oh my god, is that-"
"MOMO! MOMO!" Kyouka shouted, making a mad dash to the girls, the dust cloud being created by her steps.
"Kyouka?!"
"MOMO! I NEED PLANE TICKETS TO I-ISLAND! CAN YOU GET THEM FOR ME?!" Kyouka ran at Momo, tackling her to the ground. She was now straddled on top of Momo's lap as the other girl was lying on the ground, while Mina gave a wolf whistle at the sight.
"J-Jirou, are you okay? I thought you weren't coming." Ochako looked concerned for Kyouka, especially at seeing her current physical state.
Her hair was a complete mess with a few leaves and twigs in it, she had sweat raining down her face while her shirt was drenched with it, she was breathing like a feral animal, her earphone jacks were somehow tangled up, and the soles of her shoes looked like they were about to fall off, some embers coming off them.
Momo looked up at Kyouka, but she felt like she was looking at a wild predator rather than a human. "What is this fo-"
"I-ISLAND! TICKETS! GET THEM?! YES OR NO?!" Kyouka began violently shaking Momo's shoulders. "ANSWER!"
Momo started to get dizzy and created a pillow from the back of her neck to cushion her head. "K-Kyouka! I beg you to calm yourself!"
However, the girl showed no signs of calming down, continuing to shake Momo until Ochako placed her hand on her back.
Kyouka's body became weightless as Toru grabbed the back of her shirt and slowly pulled her off of Momo.
Kyouka weakly flailed her limbs around, the adrenaline leaving her body as she panted. Even her earphone jacks couldn't properly move from how tangled up they were. She looked down to see that her feet were a few meters off of the ground. "…Sonuvabitch…"
Momo stood up and dusted herself off, sighing. "Now, what has gotten into you all of a sudden? You seemed perfectly fine when we parted ways earlier. And now you're in desperate need of tickets to I-Island?"
Mina poked Kyouka's cheek, knowing this might be her only chance to do so without any consequences. "You got some ludicrous timing though. We were all about to fight to the death for some tickets to I-Island."
"Not fighting to the death, Mina. Only a simple game of Rock Paper Scissors." Tsuyu corrected.
Kyouka finally calmed down, her breath retraining to a normal rate as she made eye contact with Momo. "We're going to compete for tickets?" Her lips formed into a smirk. "I'm game!"
"Awesome!" Ochako touched her fingertips together, dropping an unprepared Kyouka onto the ground. She frantically rubbed the back of her head while giving the widest smile she could. "Oops. That's my bad."
"Owwww…"
After Kyouka recovered from her fall, she and the girls proceeded to play an intense game of Rock Paper Scissors.
She had never tried so hard to win a game before, but in the end, she and Ochako ended up winning the tickets
Now that she has acquired a ticket straight to I-Island, she'll see Izuku by tomorrow and enjoy a nice, relaxing vacation overseas with him.
What can go wrong?
2 days later
Kyouka sat on a beach chair, completely exhausted out of her mind as her entire body was covered in dust and dirt.
Well, this trip was a complete bust.
Kyouka barely spent any time with Izuku due to this Melissa Shield chick taking up, like, 95% of his attention.
She remembered how pissed she was when she overheard Melissa refer to Izuku by his first name, but she learned she was mainly calling him by his first name because it's his hero name and even if it wasn't, she calls people she meets by their first names anyway. She had to remind herself that it was a normal thing to do in the West.
After hearing that Melissa is well acquainted with All Might, she almost lost her cool, suspecting that the hero brought Izuku here to set him up with this girl to get back at her for giving him the cold shoulder.
Kyouka was ready to take out Melissa and turn this entire island upside down to track down All Might to make him pay. Trying to hook Izuku up with some girl even though he knows her feelings for the boy would've sentenced him to execution.
But fortune smiled on him when she learned that scenario was not the case at all. Unfortunately, things didn't get much better with the other company on the island.
Obviously, Momo and Ochako were going with her, but she didn't expect to see Kaminari, Mineta, Tenya, Shoto, Kirishima, and…Katsuki there as well. It was all too crowded for her liking.
Then, Melissa invited them all to this fancy party and everyone got all dressed up. She couldn't believe how beautiful Melissa looked in her dress and makeup, and she couldn't help but feel threatened by this girl.
Even Ochako showed signs of jealousy, which made her feel a slight kinship with the other girl.
Although, Izuku didn't seem to be gawking over Melissa like Kaminari and Mineta were, giving nice compliments to all the girls. If anything, he was staring at Kyouka for a few extra seconds. Then again, the reason for that could be the fact that he's known her for over 3 years now and has never once seen her wear a dress before.
Speaking of wearing a dress, she might wear one again one of these days after getting those compliments and stares from her hero. But maybe one of her choosing next time. She didn't exactly hate or dislike the dress she wore, but she felt like it could've been better and suited her style more.
It didn't help that she was given a choker to go with that dress, which she immediately turned down and opted to wear her usual one.
Going back on topic, that night had promise. With such a fancy party, a perfect mood can be set up to finally confess to Izuku.
There was even a plan she made for the party.
Step 1: Have a good time at the party.
Step 2: Keep Izuku's interaction with other girls to a minimum (Momo excluded). Keep Katsuki away, too.
Step 3: Play just a little hard to get, not hanging out with Izuku the entire party and spending a good chunk of her time with the other girls.
Step 3.5: Don't play too hard to get and chat it up with boys. Wouldn't want Izuku to feel ignored.
Step 4: A few hours into the party, drag Izuku outside to have a break. Give him a drink while you're at it.
Step 5: When he's caught up in the mood, confess your feelings to him.
Step 6: Bada bing, bada boom! Izuku is now your boyfriend and world peace is achieved!
Kyouka was so ready to put that plan into action, but before they could even attend the party, of course villains had to show up and attack.
Even now, she felt frustrated that she couldn't even get to step 1. That entire night ended up being a colossal clusterfuck, with all the students and Melissa being forced to step up and stop these guys since all the Pro Heroes, All Might included, were subdued.
They fought through security bots and a few grunts throughout the night, and it ended with Izuku and All Might fighting together to stop the big villain as the sun rose. Kyouka was frustrated that Izuku had to fight, but the big silver lining was that he didn't break a single bone in his body.
That was mainly due to the Full Gauntlet Melissa gave him earlier that day. It was breathtaking to see Izuku use a 100% smash and be completely fine afterward. If anything, his injuries weren't all that bad compared to the past.
Kyouka thought about it some more, and maybe Melissa is kinda okay after all. It's not like she really took up 95% of Izuku's time. At least half of it was taken by the incident that occurred at the party.
Also, she was essential in that entire incident and it helped her case that she didn't seem to be checking out Izuku when he was shirtless after the battle.
But it's been a few hours since all that happened and now all Kyouka wanted was to rest, have a drink, and see her hero.
As if a higher power was listening to her, Izuku came over, currently wearing Tenya's blue blazer that was obviously too big for him, but at least he wasn't shirtless for other girls to check him out while she was too tired to get pissed.
He handed her a glass of water, smiling. "Thirsty?"
Kyouka took the glass, smiling back before taking a sip. "Thirsty and tired. I'll need a nap soon."
"I think we're all in the same boat. I talked to Melissa about it and she said that she prepared massages and saunas for us if we'd like to have them."
"Massages?" Kyouka perked up, getting off of the chair as she stretched. "Sign me the hell up."
"Kirishima and Kaminari invited me to the sauna, so I think I'll be doing that later on." Izuku adjusted the blazer, to feel more comfortable. "After that, I can change into some proper fitting clothes."
Kyouka took off her hair clip and threw it to the side. "I hear ya. I wanna get out of this dress ASAP. Oh, Izuku? Dumb question, but what kind of dress do you think is-"
"Hey, you two!" Melissa shouted from afar, running over to them as fast as she could. When she finally reached them, she planted her hands on her knees and began to pant. "Can…Can I…Can I ask you a favor…?"
"Are you okay, Melissa? You shouldn't be pushing yourself after the night we had. Especially considering the fact that you don't have any training experience." Izuku tilted his head, slightly moving his hands forward in case he has to catch her if she collapses.
"That's…not true…" Melissa started to slowly regain her breath and straightened her body. "I exercise…Sometimes…"
Kyouka let out a small groan. 'Right when I was about to ask him what kind of dress he finds most attractive. Maybe I'll go off of instinct if I ever wear another dress.'
"So, what kind of favor do you want to ask of us?" Izuku asked, smiling at the girl.
"Okay, you won't be using your costumes for the summer, correct?" Melissa's eyes were starting to sparkle, clearly excited to request the favor.
Izuku nodded. "That's right. Mr. Aizawa told us we're not really going to need them until near the end of August. Why do you ask?"
"Ah, that's perfect!" Melissa grabbed both of their hands, making Izuku's eyes widen and Kyouka's brows furrow. "With your permission, I would like you to leave your costumes here with me!"
"Huh?"
"Y-You want us to do what now?"
"Leave your costumes here with me."
Kyouka skeptically raised an eyebrow. "I don't think we should."
Izuku gave a nervous chuckle. "It's not that we're against the idea, but I don't think we're allowed to do that."
Melissa finally let go of their hands before clasping hers together. "That will not be an issue! I have contacts within a few support companies in Japan, so I'll be able to clear any issues that may arise from this! Please, trust me! I promise that you won't regret it!"
Izuku and Kyouka looked at each other, looked at the excited Melissa, and looked back at each other before Izuku nodded, Kyouka nodding right after.
Izuku smiled. "Sure, we can leave our costumes here."
Kyouka twirled around her earphone jack, smirking. "You better not mess with them too much. I don't want my costume coming back with a nasty stench or looking too ugly."
Melissa giggled. "I'll only make minor adjustments. I'll also give you both my contact information in case you want to make any cosmetic adjustments of your own."
A small frown flashed on Kyouka's face for a second, before she wiped it away.
"Cosmetic…" Izuku tapped his temple, thinking of any potential ideas before his eyes lit up for a split second. "Got it. I might be messaging you sooner than you expect."
"I'm looking forward to any of your requests!" Melissa grabbed her hands again, giving them a light squeeze before letting go.
Kyouka shook her hand around a little. "Wow, someone's sure hyped for this."
"That's good. I can't wait to see what adjustments you make." Izuku said.
"With all this excitement, I may as well do this now." Kyouka turned to her hero and pulled out a party popper, pulling on the string as confetti shot out. "Happy Birthday, Izuku!"
Izuku slightly jumped at the confetti shot at his face before letting out a laugh. "Where did you get that?"
"I had Momo make me one yesterday. I was expecting to use it during the party at midnight. But now's a good time, right?"
"I guess it is." Izuku pulled a piece of confetti out of his hair. "Thanks for that, Kyouka. I almost forgot it was my birthday."
"Well, I won't let you forget cause don't you dare think that wishing you a Happy Birthday and shooting confetti at you is all I'm gonna do for you today." Kyouka smirked, poking his chest with her earphone jack before looking at Melissa as a light bulb lit up in her head. "Hey Melissa, do you have any grocery stores around the island?"
Melissa nodded. "We do." She quickly looked at Izuku. "Happy Birthday, by the way! If you'd like, I can provide you with a cake."
Izuku gently waved her off. "No thanks. I know my mom will bake me a cake as soon as I get home, and I don't want to risk making her jealous by eating another."
"Noted." Melissa looked back at Kyouka. "So, why the question about grocery stores?"
Kyouka shook her head. "I'll tell you later. The birthday boy isn't allowed to listen in." She then let out a yawn. "But first…A massage and nap would be nice."
Izuku sat on the beach chair and yawned as well, giving a playful smirk. "Aw, can I at least get a hint? A teensy one?"
Kyouka started to walk away with Melissa and looked back at Izuku before sticking her tongue out at him and continuing to leave.
Now Izuku was left all alone, or so he thought before turning his head to the right and seeing his classmates start walking toward him.
"Whoa, it's your birthday, Midoriya?! How come you didn't tell us?! Not cool, man!" Kirishima frowned, but he couldn't keep the frown for long before he started to smile and rushed over to Izuku, patting his shoulder. "But Happy Birthday, anyway!"
Izuku glanced at Kirishima, giving a tired smile. "Thanks…"
"Let's party hard today!" Mineta raised his arms into the air.
"Mineta, I do not recommend that. We're all tired and Midoriya here must be more tired than all of us." Tenya scolded.
Momo nodded. "I wholeheartedly agree with Iida. Midoriya must be dying for a nap."
"Can we get those massages first with Jirou, Yaomomo?" Ochako asked. "I've always dreamed of having one from an actual masseuse."
"He's already fallen asleep." Shoto pointed at Izuku, who was sleeping soundly on the chair.
Kaminari lightly elbowed Katsuki's side. "Yo, did you know it was his birthday?"
"What does it matter? I don't have an interest in celebrating that nerd's birthday." Katsuki shoved Kaminari away before walking off and starting to speak in a low voice. "Not like I have the right to celebrate it anyway."
"What a weirdo…" Mineta crossed his arms. "If we ever have another party, let's keep him out of it."
"He coulda just said yes or no." Kaminari pouted.
"I think I'll take a nap too." Shoto closed his eyes and fell asleep right away, still standing straight up.
"So disciplined…" Momo sweatdropped as she and everyone were very impressed that Shoto could fall asleep like that.
Tenya lifted up Izuku, yawning himself. "I'll be the one to take him to bed."
"Let me help with that, Iida." Ochako touched Izuku's arm, making him weightless before looking at Momo. "We still doing massages later?"
"Yes we are, Uraraka."
"Neat!"
Tenya and Ochako walked off with Izuku, Mineta and Kaminari dropped to the floor to sleep, and Momo tried to move Shoto to a chair, but he wouldn't budge as if he was a statue.
Kirishima stood there with his arms crossed, looking around. "So, we're not having a party? I'm pumped full of energ-."
Kirishima crashed hard onto the ground face first before Katsuki soon came back and dragged him away by his leg.
"Dumbass."
The full moon was lighting up the dark sky as most of the noise in the city had died down, with the main sounds of the night being the light mechanical whirring of the moving island along with the chirping of crickets.
Izuku and a scrawny All Might were leaning on the railing of a bridge that looked over a huge lake, the moon being reflected on said lake. They both were changed into casual clothing and had a bottle of soda in hand, taking in the peaceful view.
All Might took a tiny sip of his soda, looking at his successor. "A stunning view, isn't it, Young Midoriya?"
Izuku closed his eyes to let the late-night breeze brush past his face before he opened his eyes back up. "Yeah. I wish we could have enjoyed this view last night as well. I'm sad that we'll be leaving tomorrow morning."
"Ditto. But what's done is done. Everyone is safe and that's what matters most. Cheers to another victory for peace." All Might held out his bottle.
"Cheers." Izuku clanked his bottle with All Might's, smiling. "As insane as yesterday was, I feel guilty at admitting that a dream of mine was fulfilled."
"Is that so? Pray tell, what was this dream of yours?"
"To fight alongside you one day. As a kid, I would often play a video of you fighting a villain and I fight the air to pretend that we were beating that villain together. Then I would always perfectly sync with you whenever you said, 'It's fine now! Do you know why?! Because I am here!'" Izuku's face went a little red, lowering his head. "Holy crap, saying that out loud feels so embarrassing…Why did I even bring that up?"
All Might let out a boisterous laugh, patting the boy's back. "You're fine! I expected as much from such a fanboy!" He lightly bumped the boy's shoulder, but his comment made the boy's face even redder than it was before, making the hero laugh even more. "Your reactions never cease to entertain me, Young Midoriya!"
Izuku regained his composure, glancing at the hero with a small frown. "It's not like I was the only one who did that. Tons of kids my age were doing that. Don't single me out."
"Tons of kids, huh? Was Young Bakugo one of those kids as well?" All Might's interest was piqued.
"You didn't hear it from me, but he started doing it before I did. Sometimes in public in front of a T.V store."
"Ooh, you make it tempting to tease him about it when the second semester begins."
"Please don't or else I'll never hear the end of it. I get enough from him as it is." Izuku sighed, taking a sip from his soda.
"But I have noticed that things are a tad better between you two?"
"You think so?"
"Well, he doesn't seem to antagonize you as much as he did before. I call that progress."
"Progress, huh?" Izuku moved his bottle in a small circle, watching the soda slowly stir. "I hope you're right, but I don't want to get my hopes up."
"If nothing else, he could make one outstanding rival for you. A rivalry is always nice to have and can likely improve you."
"A rivalry? I can't say I'm against the idea, but it's not like you had any rivals, All Might."
"I believe you can count Endeavor as a rival. Sure, he may not be as strong as I am, but I respect his drive to surpass me. But if I'm being honest, there's something severely holding him back from surpassing me. And it's not power."
"It's not?"
"Not at all. I don't know the man on a personal level, but I get the feeling that he feels constantly compared to me and sees himself as inferior because of it. I could very much be wrong, but I believe that he needs to find his own way of being a hero instead of trying to surpass my strength. Maybe if I ever get the chance to talk to him without him dismissing me, I can tell him all that. But that might not ever happen unless we're both senile and stuck in retirement homes."
"Never say never. I never thought that I'd be fighting alongside the Symbol of Peace himself, but look at me now."
"Be glad it happened when it happened. With my power slowly depleting, I doubt we'll have another chance to fight alongside each other. From then on, I'll be the bystander when you go into battle. I'll just be the useless old man who's lying on constant standby."
"That's not true. I'm sure you'll still have plenty to teach me. Besides, knowing Kyouka, she might not let you rest. You know how hard she can be on the both of us sometimes."
"Pfft, on the both of us, you say? You can't be serious. Young Jirou is a million times harder on me than she is on you."
"No, she isn't. At worst, it's a 40/60 ratio."
"Try 1/99."
"You really think so?"
"Mhmm. And I think I might know why."
"Yeah?"
All Might was about to give his honest answer, but he quickly shut himself up before a word could escape his mouth. 'If I tell him Young Jirou's feelings so prematurely, then I'm a dead man! I can't believe I almost signed my death warrant…'
"Seeing as how she's known you longer than she's known me, it only makes sense to have a bias. There's also the possibility that she expects better of me, considering I'm the number one hero."
"I guess that makes sense. Jeez, does that mean that she'll be a million times harder on me if I become number one? I don't know if I'm ready for that."
"You're still only 16, Young Midoriya. You'll have time to prepare yourself for her wrath. But even then, I heavily doubt she will be that hard on you." All Might then cocked an eyebrow. "That reminds me, I haven't given you a gift for your birthday yet, have I?"
"Huh? Th-There's no need for that. You brought me here to this I-Island as a guest, and I consider that a-" He was stopped by All Might suddenly embracing him in his arms, the hero now in his muscular form.
To say the least, Izuku was completely speechless, not expecting this kind of gesture from his idol at all. And he even felt tears starting to well up in his eyes.
But he felt at peace from this hug, smiling and now trying to return an embrace of his own. Unfortunately, he couldn't quite do that due to All Might's large frame.
That problem didn't last long as All Might abruptly transformed into his scrawny form, blood trickling from his mouth. The hero gave a sheepish laugh, a little embarrassed by this. "Guess I'm still a little fatigued from our battle." He then pulled back to see his successor's face and smirked. "Again, with the waterworks, kid?" However, All Might appeared to be having tears streaming down his own cheeks as his lips quivered. "Not everything has to be so emotional."
"Look, who's talking." Izuku teased the hero, sniffling, and wiping his tears.
All Might shook his head, wiping his own tears. "It's only because you're crying. It's like an infectious disease."
"It doesn't work like that."
"It does so. You're still a kid. You don't understand the world as much as I do."
"I may not, but I think I have a solid grasp. Who knows, I might be smarter than you."
All Might delivered a light chop to the top of Izuku's head while looking a little frustrated. "Don't push it, kid. It may be your birthday, but you don't have free rein to say whatever you want." The hero couldn't keep that expression up for long before his lips curled into a soft smile. "Anyway, Happy Birthday, Young Midoriya."
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck. "Thank you, All Might…I mean it."
"I'm sorry that my gift wasn't anything material, but I'll make it up to you on either Christmas or your next birthday by doubling down on the quantity or quality of the gift."
"That won't be necessary. I really am grateful for that hug. If I told little kid me that I got a hug from All Might within 24 hours of fighting alongside him, then he'd be freaking out." Izuku reassured the hero. "You know…if Kyouka was here, she'd say that your hug being a gift to me is a little egotistical." He gave a small smirk.
All Might erupted into laughter. "You're totally right! She'd be tapping my head with her jack, saying with a smug look on her face, 'You couldn't get Izuku a better gift than that? I thought you Pros were loaded. It looks like I'm beating you in gifts again this year.'"
The two One For All users broke out into laughter at this hypothetical scenario, grabbing onto the railing to prevent falling over with how hard they were laughing.
Two sets of footsteps were approaching the two of them, and they stopped laughing to turn their heads to the source of the sound.
And speak of the devil, Kyouka was approaching them with Melissa following close behind, both girls changed into casual clothing.
They were both happy to see the girls, but something caught their attention before they could greet them.
Kyouka was holding onto this white sci-fi-looking cube that had a light red glow on its edges with a large glowing button on top.
Izuku and All Might both cocked their eyebrows at the cube, both curious as to what was in it. If Kyouka wasn't holding it, they might have assumed it was a bomb or some kind of weapon.
But they both came to one conclusion as to what it could be.
That cube probably contains a robot inside of it. One that looks all sleek and humanoid. One that shoots lasers from its hands and is able to fly around the world in less than a minute.
Now they were both excited to see the robot come out of the cube, eyes starting to sparkle. Because no matter how old you may get or how many unbelievable things you've seen in a world filled with quirks, sci-fi robots will always be cool.
Izuku and All Might's eyes were sparkling while imagining all the kinds of tricks the robot could do.
Meanwhile, Kyouka was getting much closer, and she had just noticed All Might for some reason. It made her slow down for a second, but she resumed her pace right after. 'It's Izuku's birthday. Just this once, I'll set personal grudges aside. Hell, I'd even be able to tolerate Bakugo for his birthday…Maybe…Nope, scratch that.'
Kyouka and Melissa finally reached them and Melissa looked at All Might. "How are you feeling, Uncle Might?"
"I'm doing just fine, Melissa. I could run a marathon if I had to!" All Might transformed back into his muscular form before instantly reverting into his scrawny form, spitting out blood. "After a good night's sleep, that is."
"Wait, you know that's All Might?" Kyouka looked back and forth between All Might and Melissa.
Melissa nodded. "Of course I do. Papa told me about how weakened All Might has gotten. But I swear on my life that I haven't told another soul." Without missing a beat, she turned to Izuku. "Izuku, do you mind if I see your phone?"
Izuku obliged, starting to take out his phone, but before he could say anything and unlock it for her, she swiped it from him.
"Uh, hey, don't you need me to unloc-"
"No thanks. I already unlocked it."
Izuku sweatdropped, watching the girl mess around with his phone. "Of course you did...How long do you need it fo-"
"Done. Here you go." Melissa handed his phone back with a cheeky smile on her face. "But don't look at it until later. You'll know when."
Izuku blinked as he looked back and forth between the girl and his phone before pocketing the phone. "Alright then. If it's not rude to ask, what are you two doing here?"
"That's not for me to say." Melissa held her finger over lips before tugging on All Might's arm. "Come, Uncle Might. Let's give these two some privacy."
All Might chuckled and nodded. "Good thinking, Melissa. We can pay Dave a visit at the hospital while we're at it."
"Sounds like a plan. We'll see you two tomorrow morning!" Melissa waved at Izuku and Kyouka while she and All Might walked away.
Before they completely left the area, All Might quickly looked back to make direct eye contact with his successor. 'Report to me all the details of what's in that box, Young Midoriya!'
As if Izuku understood his hero, he gave an intense thumbs up.
Now Kyouka and Izuku were left alone on the bridge, and another cool breeze brushed past them.
Kyouka lightly tapped on the cube in her hands. "I'm sorry I was gone most of the day. You must've thought I abandoned you on your birthday, huh?"
"Of course not. We were all resting for a good chunk of the day. I wouldn't have blamed you if you waited until tomorrow to celebrate the rest of my birthday."
"Well, I would've blamed myself if I did that. I told you I was gonna do more for you today, and I'm going to start right now."
"Does that cube have anything to do with what you're going to do?" Izuku asked, his eyes causally sparkling and being totally obvious that he wanted to see what was inside of it.
"Uh-huh. Watch this." Kyouka put the cube down on the ground and pressed the button on top. The cube began to fold in on itself into its bottom base before a blanket exploded out from the base, being draped onto the ground. In the center of the blanket, a steaming hot bowl of Katsudon was revealed.
Izuku's eyes sparkled even more so than when he thought it was a robot inside. He took in a whiff of the katsudon, his mouth starting to water. "Whoa…Did you make this?! It smells delicious!"
Kyouka had a proud look on her face as she crossed her arms. "I asked your mom to give me the recipe when I visited your house after the Sports Festival. I always planned to make this for your birthday." She pulled out a pair of chopsticks from her pocket and handed them to her hero. "Eat up."
Izuku wiped the drool from his mouth before sitting down on the blanket and clasping his hands together. "Thanks a lot for this, Kyouka!"
Despite her prideful facade, Kyouka was freaking out a little as she watched Izuku start eating in what felt like slow motion. 'Please like it, please like it, please like it, please like it! I didn't add too much salt, right? Or did I not add enough salt? Is the pork cooked correctly? I'm not gonna give him food poisoning, am I? Oh god, the only thing worse than him not liking it is him not liking it and receiving food poisoning from the food I made! Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit!'
After Izuku took his first bite, his eyes widened and Kyouka felt her heart get crushed, thinking that he hates it. She was ready to apologize for making him eat her poor excuse for katsudon until Izuku started to wolf down the dish without any warning. "Huh?"
In less than a minute, the entire dish was devoured, not a single grain of rice remaining in the bowl. Izuku leaned back with his hands on the blanket, a satisfied smile on his face. "That was heavenly…"
Kyouka was shocked to see how much he loved it. If anything, she was expecting a 'great,' but this reaction was better than her expectations. "Y-You liked it that much?"
"Loved it." Izuku straightened himself up and picked a grain of rice off his cheek before throwing it in his mouth. "But are you sure my mom gave you her recipe?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. Why you ask?"
"I feel weird admitting this, but this tastes a lot better than the katsudon my mom usually makes for me."
"It is?"
Izuku let out a small laugh, scratching the side of his head. "Wow…I kinda remember that years ago, near the beginning of middle school, she mentioned developing a new recipe. But I never heard her mention that to me again. I kinda forgot about it not long after. This must be it."
Kyouka held in a gasp, wondering why Inko gave her a recipe for an improved katsudon instead of making it for Izuku herself. But as she thought about it more, she had an idea of her reasoning, and it made Kyouka love the woman even more. She had to hold her tears in so Izuku wouldn't ask any questions. 'I promise I'll make it for him more often, and I'll keep making it for him years later!'
"That's very nice of her to give that to me. I'll make sure to thank her when I have the chance."
"I'll do the same for creating such an amazing recipe." Izuku looked down at the empty bowl and sighed. "I'm sad it's all gone now. I'd love another bite."
"Then thank god I'm gonna make you another bowl when we get back to Japan, right?" Kyouka sat down right beside him. "I'm thinking this can be a weekly thing. You come to my house, and I'll make that katsudon for you. It can be the beginning of a ritual between us. How does that sound?"
Izuku smiled, holding his hand out. "Sounds like my weeks are going to get a lot better from here on out."
Kyouka shook his hand before reaching into her other pocket. "Now time for the second thing of the day. Drumroll please." Izuku played along and started to repeatedly tap the bowl with his chopsticks as she pulled out a rectangular box. "Ta-da! Take it and open it up."
Izuku put the chopsticks down and grabbed the box before opening it, his brows raised. "This is for me?"
In the box, laid a necklace with a black cord and circle pendant. The pendant had an inner and outer circle. The inner circle was dark green and the outer circle was dark purple.
The boy took the necklace out of the box and fiddled around with the pendant before seeing that he could open it up. It seemed to be a locket.
"You can put a picture in it if you'd like." Kyouka informed, hoping that he eventually puts a picture of either just her or the both of them inside. But she won't pressure him.
Izuku gave a soft smile before putting on the necklace and tapping the pendant. "How does it look on me?"
"It makes me think that I do have some fashion sense, after all. It looks cool on you. Also, can you do something for me?" Kyouka asked as her hero gave her a questioning look. "Close your eyes and touch the pendant."
"Huh? How com-"
"Just do it."
"Okay, okay."
Izuku closed his eyes and held the pendant between his index finger and thumb. After feeling the stainless steel under his fingertips, he felt an interesting sensation right after.
'The necklace is pulsating…?' He felt Kyouka grab his free hand, placing it on the side of her neck, above her choker, and starting to feel her pulse. Before he could ask her what she was doing, he noticed that the pulse of the necklace and the pulse of his best friend were in perfect sync.
His eyes then opened to see Kyouka smiling softly at him, the moonlight perfectly lighting up her face. He stared for what felt like ages, admiring how beautiful she looks right now, feeling his face slowly heat up until Kyouka spoke up.
"Can you guess what the necklace does?" She finally removed his hand from her neck.
Izuku reluctantly let go of the pendant, giving a nod. "I think I can. It's tracking your heartbeat, isn't it?"
"Hit the nail right on the head." Kyouka confirmed before tapping her choker. "I got you that necklace when we went to the mall, but that feature was only added today with Melissa's help." She cleared her throat to get ready to give an explanation. "You're probably wondering how you can feel my heartbeat in the first place. Melissa modified my choker as well, so it has sensors in it that track my heartbeat. So, my choker and your necklace are connected. But it also works both ways, since the cord of your necklace has its own sensors. So, if I do this…" She placed two fingers on her choker, feeling it pulsate. "I can feel your heartbeat just the same."
Izuku looked down at his necklace before looking at Kyouka's choker. He placed his hand on his chest to feel his heartbeat, amazed that she was currently feeling that very same heartbeat. "I can't believe this kind of feature was added to a regular necklace. Technology can sure be amazing sometimes."
"There's actually another feature that got added to it…" Kyouka hesitated to announce it, tapping her earphone jacks together as she avoided eye contact with him. "The pendant has a tracker in it. So I can tell where you are. My choker has a tracker too, so you can tell where I am. But the range isn't too crazy. It has a radius of about 80 kilometers…Okay, maybe that range is a little crazy…"
"Oh, really?" Izuku picked up the pendant to try to see if there were any distinguishable blinking lights, but he found nothing.
"I-If you think that's too creepy, I don't mind asking Melissa to remove that feature. I wouldn't want you to feel like your privacy is being invaded by me."
Izuku shook his head. "I don't mind it at all, Kyouka. Plus, tracking can be very useful in case one of us goes missing."
"Seriously? You know I hate imagining those types of scenarios." Kyouka deadpanned. "But it's not creepy for you?"
"I can't imagine why it'd be creepy. Unless you have any ulterior motives, that is." Izuku joked while Kyouka kept her poker face on, not even letting her eyes move as a reaction. "But going back to that kind of scenario real quick, apologies in advance, but I'd be worried about this thing breaking on me."
"Oh, the necklace is very durable and the tech in it is waterproof, so you don't have to be super gentle with it or anything. It's the same as my choker. As long as you don't deliberately smash it, then you don't have to worry about it breaking."
"That means I can wear this even when I'm wearing my costume and during training. This necklace gets even better the more I hear about it!" Izuku then dropped his head. "Now I feel like my gift will pale in comparison to yours."
"Hey, we don't compare our gifts. That's a rule between us, remember? A rule you created by the way." Kyouka lightly scolded. "Oh yeah, in order to check out the tracking, take a look at your phone."
"So that's what Melissa meant." Izuku mumbled to himself as pulled out his phone to see that a new app was added.
This app had All Might's face on it and was called "FMH". After opening up the app, he saw a satellite map of the island along with a green and purple dot right next to each other.
"FMH? What does that stand for?" Izuku rubbed his chin to think before snapping his fingers. "Ah, I got it! Find My Hero?"
"Impressive. Fun fact, the idea for that name was mine. But the app icon was not…" Kyouka looked at her own phone to see All Might's face there.
'I couldn't ask Melissa to change the icon, or it would have made her ask questions, then she might tell Izuku about that, which I want to avoid. If I was any good at tech and software, then I'd change this myself, but it's only an image. It won't hurt me, and could be worse. Ugh, I don't even want to imagine a Bakugo app icon.'
Kyouka shivered at the thought, but Izuku took it as her being cold and threw his jacket over her shoulders.
The girl looked at her hero and felt her cheeks beating up, a dark red blush taking over her cheeks.
Even though she didn't need this jacket, she gave him a grateful smile as he smiled back at her.
The two stayed in a comfortable silence while taking in the cool breeze. All they needed was the beautiful view of the lake reflecting the full moon, the sounds of mechanical whirring and chirping crickets, and each other's company.
During their peaceful silence, a thought popped into Izuku's mind.
'Dammit, there's no way I'm topping this for her birthday…'
A/N
Chapter 57 is done! I hope you guys aren't disappointed that I didn't cover the movie at all or show the initial meeting between Kyouka and Melissa, but I'm ultimately happier with this result. Gives me less work too.
At least this chapter gave Kyouka a new tool to stalk Izuku more efficiently than before. That's totally healthy and not at all creepy…ha ha ha…
One more chapter of fun times before the summer camp arc begins. I'm sure you guys can guess what the next chapter will be about.
On a side note, I finally watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and damn I wish I hadn't put it off for so many months. Fucking fantastic show and I miss it already. If you haven't watched it by now, then do so when you can.
Time for the reviews!
TOPCAT-59: Time for her to burn down the entire world for Izuku!
Migetsu Newgate: Guess I'll see what the future holds for this story. Hell, I have some plans on what to do about it even though I won't discuss them now.
Ability King KK: Kyouka's mental state will never have a break with all the crap Izuku goes through.
Cyber-RK18: Well, I wish you luck in your story when it's your turn to handle that scene.
drake wind: Theater kids are a crazy bunch, so it makes sense to fear him.
DiRunner: For the final battle, he's gonna bore everyone to death with his stage play.
Mew-the-Dark-Matter-buster1: Oh Jesus, I'm gonna have to rack my brain on how their netting will go. But going to the lewd hand holding thing. It's a joke I picked up from something I saw online one time. Also, I would say Ochako is pretty chill with her feelings so far and yeah Midnight can control herself. I don't know how far I'll go with lust if I even go there at all, so I plan to not think about that at all for now.
Bucio: Oh, trust me when I say that her love for Izuku will lead to not the best of things happening. She totally won't destroy the entire universe.
That's the end of this chapter! Feel free to leave a review!
