So Easy
After his chat with Finn in the football locker room, all sorts of old feelings resurface despite his best efforts to push them down and forget about them. Even though he's got a rock-hard six pack that girls swoon over, and a tight butt to boot, he can still feel the flabby skin on his stomach and the soft, doughy fat instead of hard muscle. It's always there, always haunting him.
Sure, he might be fit and totally smoking hot right now, but there was a time when he looked very different.
When he was nine, he was probably the fattest kid in his primary class. His cheeks jiggled when he smiled, and his stomach used to be something he was ashamed of while changing for physical education. He consumed a diet of Doritos and Coke during recess, and wasn't much better at home. It was only when he discovered his love of football that his life starting to turn around. The pounds gradually dropped off, and he discovered weight-lifting. He could still feel the remains of the pounds he shed still lingering around though, and it was always in the back of his mind. It would take one slip-up, one too many irresistible cheesy nachos consumed, one protein shake poured down the drain, one training session missed. It would be too easy to fall back into the safe habit of being fat.
He's not ever going to share this secret with anyone though. It's all in the past, and he's determined with a capital d to never let it happen again. Not even Quinn knows, though he thinks she was a bit wary when he passed down the offer of a second round of free breadsticks during their first date- after all, who in their right mind would pass up free breadsticks? Even though he knows that she went through her own fat problems during the past summer, she hasn't shared the intimate details of that with him, and he's not going to share those details of his past fatness with her until he's ready. Most of the photos from that era have been destroyed or hidden away so deep in their attic that not even the rats can find them. There is no remaining evidence that Samuel Evans was ever a fat kid.
But it would be so easy to slip back into his old habits.
He just hopes his desire to keep Quinn by his side forever will make sure he doesn't fall back into the world of over-eating.
Because it would be so easy.
