One of the rules the Marauders had for themselves, was if one of them had trouble sleeping, then they could share a bed with anyone. No questions asked, no kicking them out unless you were ill, or the person was being punished. And Sirius Black exploited this rule almost every night, alternating between James and Remus.
On one particular night in 3rd year, Sirius was in Remus's bed, talking about Lily Evans.
"I honesty don't know why James keeps pursuing her." Sirius complained, "Evans keeps turning him down, and he hasn't made the slightest effort to change for her."
"Maybe a Seer said they'll end up together?" Remus suggested.
"Maybe," Sirius mused, "although personally I think James is just too spoiled. His parents hardly say 'no' to him."
"True." Remus replied, "But that could change."
Sirius shrugged, "Stranger things have happened. I mean, look at me. A Black in Gryffindor."
Remus chuckled. He was right.
"Specking of crushes," Sirius started with a tone that told a now nervous Remus that the conversation would now turn to his love life, "do you have any?"
"No." Remus quickly said.
Sirius arched an eyebrow, "Sounds like you do."
Remus could feel his heart beating in his chest. He wracked his brain for answers, "Uh, um. You know how dangerous I am."
"Only once a month." Sirius countered. Ever since the Marauders found out about Remus's lycanthropy, it was a daily struggle to convince the scared boy that they didn't find him dangerous at all and that his condition didn't define who he was as a person.
"There's still a lot of damage that could be done during that time." Remus countered in a tone that dripped with self-hatred, "In a single night, I was infected." He curled up and turned his gaze far away from his friend, "You haven't seen me after a transformation. I... I-I do a lot of damage, both to myself and my surroundings."
Sirius placed a firm yet gentle hand on his friend's back, "We've seen the scars."
"After they've healed." Remus replied, "No one would want me."
"We want you." Sirius told him. Remus dared to look at him, "You're our friend, we love you. We're even becoming Animagi to help you."
"Which could end badly." Remus was against the idea from the start, he knew the dangers. But James and Sirius were set on it, and Peter followed along like he always did.
"We know." He leaned in and said with a wide mischievous grin, "That's what makes it more fun!"
Remus groaned. He was still unsure.
"What?" Sirius asked, "Do you know how many unregistered Animagi there are? I can name you 10 right off the bat!"
Remus did know. It was an open secret among the Pure-Blood elitists that many of them were illegal Animagi. In fact, it was a combination of the Black family library, the Black family's love of the Dark Arts, James's sweettalking, ingenuity, and the Potter family's Invisibility Cloak, that allowed them to get where they were. They had everything they needed, and for safety, they would be going one at a time, with James being first.
"And as for something going wrong," Sirius continued, "we have everything we need to ensure a safe transformation. And if something does go wrong during the next lightning storm, James said that everything he owns will be split between us. And there's nothing that can stop us from taking care of him, since he'd do the same for us."
"What about you and Peter?" Remus dared to ask.
Sirius shrugged, "We'll be taken cared of. Besides, Pettigrew's going last."
Remus was still unsure. His friends were putting themselves at great risk for him. Although something told him that they would be doing this no matter what, and he was just giving them an unselfish motive. Which gave him some relief.
"And trust me," Sirius reassured, "I'm sure there's plenty of people who would want you because you're a werewolf."
"Name one."
"Mi-"
"You?"
Sirius was taken aback. He was going to say Mimi Moon, a Ravenclaw girl who was obsessed with werewolves and vampires. She'd surely jump at the chance to date one. The dark haired boy was going to correct his fair-haired friend, but being the mischievous boy he was, decided to play along. He wrapped himself up in Remus's body and leaned in super close to his face, lips barely touching, and with a flirty voice asked, "Why not?"
Nervous was no where near the distress Remus Lupin was feeling. He tried to get away, but Sirius wasn't having it. Finally, Remus was forced to give in. "Won't your parents come after me?"
Sirius thought about it, "Maybe. More likely they'll just disown me. Not that I mind."
"But, how will you live?"
"Easy, I'll move in with James. His parents surely won't mind taking me in, and they're so rich, I won't have to worry."
"So you'll mooch off them?"
"No. I'll become a mechanic. James Loyd has an uncle who's a mechanic, I'm sure he'll train me."
Remus nodded. That did sound like a plan.
"And as for you," Sirius added, "Don't think James is gonna let you live in poverty. You know how fatherly he gets."
"True." Remus agreed. After the shock had worn off, James had vowed that as long as he lived, Remus would never have to worry about money. He even started giving Remus a monthly allowance after second year ended.
Sirius smiled, "You see, not everyone hates you for being a werewolf. You can't control it." Then he kissed his friend's cheek.
Remus was very glad for the darkness of the room. As he was sure his cheeks were hot and red.
"Good night." Sirius sweetly said, then he rested his head against Remus's neck and fell asleep.
Remus tried to calm his breathing. He knew for a fact that Sirius Black was both a very affectionate person, and a boy who loved annoying his parents. So what better way to annoy them than to date or seem to date the werewolf son of a muggle? Remus absentmindedly began to play with Sirius's pjs. Could Sirius really have romantic feelings for him? Or was he just looking to annoy his parents and satisfy his need for affection at once?
