Merlin was lying in a soft bed with his eyes closed. For a few minutes, he had had the unpleasant sensation that someone was tapping the back of his head. He pretended to wake up and ran a nervous hand through his hair when suddenly, the mattress slumped behind his back. He immediately rolled over and noticed that a small body, three apples high, had just laid down next to him.
He lifted his face and his breath caught at a pair of sky blue eyes staring at him with an amused look. What was a kid doing in his room? While thinking, he had straightened up and visualized the room: he was not in his own.
"Daddy," the little boy mumbled as he threw himself on top of him, a piece of blue cloth wedged between his little hands and, who laughed as he waggled in every direction.
As he heard this, Merlin gently pushed him aside: had he heard "daddy" right? At that very moment, the door opened to reveal King Arthur, who entered with a smile he did not recognize. Totally surprised to see him to sit on the edge of the bed, Merlin remained silent, in wondering what was really going on.
"Father!" cried the child as he rose from the bed while stretching his little arms toward the king.
"Are you better, my little wizard?" Arthur asked as he placed a hand against his forehead.
There was definitely something wrong. Arthur was worried about him and had just called him "my little wizard." And this kid? Who was he?
In a moment mixed with panic and lucidity, Merlin realized with amazement that he was on Arthur's bed! The king's bed! It is the trembling body as he jumped off the bed and fled the room. He paid no attention to the stares of the guards and servants as he ran barefoot wearing and only a long tunic.
Once through the door of the laboratory, Gaius' voice surprised him at his side and Merlin gripped him without realizing that his whole body was still shaking.
"Merlin? Can you tell me what you're doing in that outfit?"
"Gaius! Arthur! Me, in his bed! The little boy, upstairs! Gaius!"
The words came out of his mouth to the rhythm of his disordered heartbeat.
"Calm down, my big," Gaius suggested, who invited him to take a seat on a stool.
"No, Gaius, you don't understand..."
"All right," the doctor smiled enigmatically, "what has Charles done now? You know your son is worried about you, and that's normal, considering your condition..." he added, pointing to his belly...
Gaius spoke while staring at his stomach. Merlin dared to follow his gaze and swallowed as he discovered the unthinkable: he was pregnant! And he immediately raised his wide eyes while repeating "son."
...-M&A-...
"Mer-lin!"
Merlin jumped as he recognized Arthur's voice and fell out of bed. Fingers rubbing his eyelids, he glanced around the small room: he was in his room. He then quickly put a hand on his totally flat abdomen. Suddenly reassured, a nervous laugh crossed from his lips.
"Can you tell me what you are doing in bed at this hour?" the king shouted him, the hands on hips, "I could always wait for it, my breakfast!"
"Excuse me, sire, I'm coming..." he finally managed to pronounce while watching him turn back..
.
It was a day like all the others he lived with the king. Between his chores and his duties, he didn't have a second to himself. Arthur was still the same person he knew. Nothing had changed, because never, oh great lord, never, could he have that kind of relationship; especially with that arrogant Arthur!
However, the next night...
.
.
"Merlin?" The king called him.
His eyes heavy with sleep, he groaned as he felt a trickle of light caress his eyelids. Why did the king have that oddly soft voice?
"My heart?"
At his words, Merlin widened his eyes, sat up straight, and moved away, suddenly from Arthur who was too close to him. The latter's gaze seemed genuinely worried, something Merlin seriously doubted. As if to reassure himself, he leaned close to the king's face and whispered to him:
"Why do you call me« my heart » ?"
Against all odds, Arthur's laughter echoed throughout the room, making him even more anxious. The most disturbing thing was to see this king to lie down beside him and drawing him to his body with a possessive hand.
"How long are you going to pout at me?" the latter whispered to him in a voice that was too soft.
Merlin felt his limbs shaking and tingling of anguish overcome him. A disbelieving glance at the surroundings he proved to him that he was back in the royal chamber!
"What?" he only managed to gasp.
Merlin understood nothing. His breath hitched as Arthur's face came dangerously close to his own, his eyes frankly wide. Panicked about what was to come, he grabbed a pillow and quickly wedged it between them, but a quick hand from the king lowered the object.
"All right, you can keep sulking," Arthur warned him as he slowly left the bed, "but tonight you will not escape me."
After a few minutes of solitude, Merlin was still staring at the door as if he feared Arthur would return. "What is this mess..."he repeated to himself mentally.
"Dad!"
He jumped again, not controlling his horrible tremors. When he saw a little brown climbing on the mattress, he backed up until he was blocked against the headboard. The child sat across from him and smiled jovially. Merlin wrinkled his eyelids: the boy had ears like his own...
"Are you feeling better? And baby too?" the child asked him, putting a hand on his barely rounded belly.
In a sudden gesture, Merlin pulled his away from him, slapping his hand away, and then saw the boy's bright eyes as he came out like an arrow, crying.
Merlin sighed in wondering what this spell was?
