Vegeta did not know what it was about his daughter, but even though her fighting abilities were slim to none, she still possessed a power that managed to both intrigue and intimidate him. Behind that chubby little face and innocent blue eyes was a force to be reckoned with, and he was not sure whether he found it admirable or despicable. If at the mere age of five, the girl had anyone and everyone wrapped around her tiny little fingers, he could only imagine how far her influence would extend once she was old enough to understand the art of manipulation.

It must have been karma for all the wrongs he had done in his life, but he found it harder and harder to keep the girl away as she grew older. It was absurd, how easily the creature managed to ignore the entire concept of the word 'boundaries'. At first, he had felt enraged whenever she clung to him as if he was a scratching post rather than a prince. Over the years though, he had mustered the patience to tolerate her presence, because harming his defenceless child for intruding his privacy somehow felt a little overdramatic – and he was sure that his wife would murder him where he stood if he harmed her darling little daughter.

Yes, Prince Vegeta had softened up to his daughter – although he would never admit it out loud.

He sighed when Bulla plopped down beside him on the sofa, eager to make conversation with the aloof Saiyan instead of letting him watch TV. He pinched the bridge of his nose, recognizing that even though he wanted to be alone, telling his daughter to leave was as effective as expecting his hair to obey gravity – practically impossible. He often found himself wishing that she was a fighter, so that at times like this, he could hurl her to another room without hurting her too much, since she could not take hints - or orders - well.

Alas, he had no such luck.

He resigned himself to fate and braced himself for the oncoming banter that Earthlings seemed unable to live without. And right on cue, she began to talk, interrupting herself on more than one occasion. Surely this was a trait from her mother's side.

"Is it true that I'm a princess?" she asked with wide-eyes, earning herself a sharp glance.

Trunks and Bulma knew that his royal past was on the list of topics to avoid around him, but he doubted that his daughter had yet developed the sense to realize that such a list existed. He gave her a curt nod, trying to avoid a visit down the memory lane, and redirected his focus to try and think of a way to distract the girl before she said something that would tempt him to destroy their home.

He visibly winced as she squealed loudly in excitement, piercing his sensitive ears, and Vegeta inwardly cursed the soul that had leaked the information to her. He stared incredulously at his daughter, wondering what to say or do to make her stop her celebratory screeching when she suddenly paused, and eyed him dubiously.

"So does that mean that you're a king?" she prodded after finally calming down, settling herself on her father's lap – completely ignoring his discomfort.

Again, he nodded, and was about to make a comment about her ballet classes to distract her when she placed her chubby hands on her hips and sceptically asked a question to which Vegeta had no answer.

"Then where's your crown?"

Vegeta really did not understand women.

A/N: As of 21st Feb 2011, I have removed Stay With Me, Inner Battles and Return of the King (I) from this series. I think it's better for Incoming Tides to stick to one genre (humor). I'll create another series for my more serious one-shots. Sorry for any inconvenience that'll cause you!
