The following is the beginning of a story I've been thinking about. This chapter is the background. Tell me what you think.

Logan and Rory have been living together for almost 2 years, unbeknownst to their families. Honor knows, as does Lane and the rest of the college crew, or LDB as they are known. Oh yeah, Christopher, her dad knows.

Why all the secrecy? Well, it is common knowledge that Shira and Lorelai have a problem with Logan and Rory being together. If Emily and Francine knew, they would be pushing for a more formal union. Richard would have to tell Emily, so that left him out.

How, do you asked, did they reconnect? Well I will tell you. At President Obama's inaugural ball in January press corp for the Obama campaign were invited to one of the many inaugural balls. Rory, along with several other reporters on the campaign trail went together.

Logan, being Vice-President of acquisitions at HPG and as representative of the Huntzburger family was also in attendance. Both of them were dating other people. Rory had been with Michael for a couple of months. He was a reporter of the San Francisco Times.

Logan was not dating anyone seriously. He was at the ball with Juliet. Robert and Juliet were dating, but Robert was in London on business and Juliet really wanted to go to the ball. This worked out great for everyone.

Logan and Rory talked several times during the ball. The old feelings were still there, but neither wanted to hash it out at the ball. With Juliet's encouragement, Logan and Rory dance. After several dances, Rory knew she had to break up with Michael. It was not fair to him. She still had feelings for Logan. Not that she planned on acting on those feelings, but the feelings were there and it was not fair to Michael.

While Rory was on the campaign trail, April moved in with Luke and Lorelia. They moved Rory's belongings, with her encouragement, to the pool house at the Gilmore Manor. This is where she is saying until she finds an apartment in New York. She was to start work at the New York Guardian in February.

Rory turned 25 in October. Because the campaign was in the last months, she was not able to come home to celebrate her birthday nor sign the trust paperwork. After talking with her Grandpa, she agreed to take the trust fund Trix left her. She also had a trust fund from the Gilmores and the Haydens. Richard has been overseeing these funds until Rory turned 25.

Emily and Richard insisted on going with her and Lorelai to look for apartments in New York. Richard was a little more forgiving than Emily when it came to the type of apartment Rory would be living in but a 24 hour doorman was a must. Rory tried to argue, but Richard agreed, telling Rory he would worry less, therefore she would not be putting him into an early grave.

While apartment hunting Logan called, asking her to have coffee with him. She agreed for the next day. They both knew that Rory being in New York, their paths would cross. They wanted to be able to talk to each other. They had coffee, talked. He apologized for springing the proposal on her and giving her an ultimatum. She apologized for not explaining herself better. She never wanted to break up, she was just not ready to marry. They both left the coffee shop feeling better about each other.

Rory got moved into her new apartment. It was a good combination of modern and funky. She had a huge living room with floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the City and Central Park. She furnished this room with antiques she found in the Gilmore basement. Her Grammy Francine insisted she look through their storage to find other items to decorate with. She chose that furniture for her den or TV room. All in all she was pleased with the way she had decorated her 4 bedroom, 5 and a half bathroom apartment. It also has an office/Library. Richard was easily persuaded to give Rory some of his first editions from his own library.

Rory and Logan, alone with Finn, Robert, Colin, Juliet, Stephanie reconnected. She would have lunch with the girls, she would sometimes have lunch with Finn, and sometimes it would be just her and Logan.

Logan and Rory were both beginning to enjoy each other's company. The rest of the gang could see that they still had feelings for each other. They tried to arrange times for them to be alone. Rory and Logan were becoming suspicious, but they didn't care.

Rory stayed pretty busy with her new job and reconnecting with her friends. She and Emily came up with a solution to Friday night. They would continue Friday night only moving it to once every two months. Emily also agreed to include Christopher, Gigi and Francine. In return, Rory agreed to meet Emily and Richard for brunch one Sunday a month in the city.

Lorelia was upset with Rory because she didn't have time for her. Rory talked to her mother at least twice a week. This is more that she did on the campaign trail. This, oh course, was not enough for Lorelai. Rory finally agreed to stay in Stars Hollow after one of the Friday night dinners. Rory told Lorelai to book them a room at the DragonFly. Rory could see this becoming the norm, but she didn't want to tie herself down. She was still young and she still enjoyed going to clubs with her friends.

Rory and Logan had begun to fall into place. They were not dating, but when they were out together alone or with friends, from the outside looking in, it looked like nothing had changed. Stephanie even told Rory that she didn't think Logan was dating at all.

Rory arrived at the Gilmore Manor Friday night. She was late. She didn't leave the office when she planned. She pulled up to the Manor and sighed. She was bracing herself for the wrath of Emily Gilmore.

She rang the bell and Gigi opened the door. She was glad to see Rory, as Rory was glad to see her. This is one of the reasons Rory wanted Christopher and Gigi included in Friday night dinner.

They had pleasant conversations. Rory told them all about her new job and the new people she was meeting. Emily and Francine both wanted to know if she was dating anyone. She hesitated, she knew this question would come up. She told them no, but she has been spending time with some of her college friends. Rory saw Franice and Emily exchange a look. She also noticed Lorelai scrawl on her face. Rory sighed. She was in for a long weekend.

When Rory returned to the city Sunday afternoon, she was tired. Lorelai had more than once voiced her opinion on her college friends. Rory never gave any specific names, but Rory knew Lorelai knew Logan was among those friends.

Rory had been receiving text all weekend from her friends. The college gang and the few friends she made at work. She felt well balanced as far as friendship. The good thing about being in Stars Hollow was being able to spend time with Lane and make plans.

The next week at work was busy. She was assigned, along with several other reporters to gather information on the NATO airstrike in Afghanistan killing over 25 civilians. The gang wanted to get together Wednesday night to eat and catch up, but Rory had to decline. She was too busy and too tired.

Logan got worried about Rory when he got the group text about Wednesday night. He knew she was busy, but he also knew the trip home was weighing on her. He called her on his way to meet the gang. She told him about her assignment. They talked for a few. Logan also had reporters on the ground in Afghanistan.

Rory left her office about 10:00. This was later than she normally left. She, Tina, William, Susie and Bishop were all leaving at the same time. Bishop suggested they grab a drink and a slice before heading home. Rory declined. She wanted to go to bed. She ordered pizza on her way home, hoping it would be there soon after she arrived.

When she entered the lobby, Logan was waiting on her. She was surprised. He told her he was worried about her. She told him she was tired but fine. While they were standing in the lobby talking, Rory's pizza arrived. She invited Logan up to her apartment. This is not the first time he had been to her apartment. The gang had a movie night last week.

Logan sat with her while she changed clothes and ate her pizza. This was the night things changed for Logan and Rory. Rory kissed Logan. When Logan left, they agreed to talk about the kiss this weekend. Logan was leaving in the morning for Florida. He would be returning Friday afternoon.

Work kept her busy for the next few days, as it did Logan. They both found time to text during the day. Just 'Hey, thinking of you.' or 'grrrr, this meeting is so boring.' They both were looking forward to Friday. Bishop asked Rory what or who made her so happy. She had a skip in her step. She just smiled and continued to her desk.

After the last meeting of the day for Rory, she was ready to go. She was excited about seeing Logan, but she was worried. They have not had time to talk about the kiss. She hoped she wasn't getting her hopes up.

When she got back to her apartment building, he was waiting on her. She invited him up. She texted the gang that she would be late tonight, not to wait on her. She would just meet them at the club. Logan did the same, claiming he was getting back from Florida later than he thought.

Logan and Rory order sandwiches from the deli around the corner. They ate and talked. They decided to date. Logan made it a point to say exclusively. Rory agreed. They also agreed not to say anything to the gang, until they brought it up.

Well as you can guess, they were not at the club a minute before someone asked if the reason they were both late was because they were together.

They dated for a couple of months, keeping it a secret from their families. To begin with, it was because they needed a chance to get this right without the interference of the families, good or bad. After about 3 months dating, Logan moved into Rory's apartment. With the help of their friends, Christopher, and Honor, they were able to keep this from the family for almost 2 years. The hardest was the holidays, but they managed. Things were going well for both of them. They stayed busy with their jobs, so being able to climb in bed with the other one at the end of the night was worth all the secrets and lies.

Rory's birthday was coming up. She will be 27 this year. Logan wanted to whisk her away for a week, but that was not happening. The annual Breast Cancer Gala was being held this month and they both were expected to attend. So far they have been able to arrange it so they did not attend the same parties.

The one time they could not get out of it was this past year's Valentine Gala supporting Literacy. They agreed to all go as a group. Logan and Rory were careful not to let on to the older crowd they were a couple. Rory danced with Robert, Colin, Finn, her grandpa and her dad. She did not dance with Logan.

Logan on his part danced with Honor, Juliet, Stephanie, Paris and his mother. The gang covered for the love birds. They were careful not to get too close to each other. They both have always had a problem with keeping their hands off the other.
