I intentionally subsituted Rin's and Jaken's names for their species since it puts the story more through Ah-Un's perspective.

A Strange Egg

Ah-Un was a practical dragon. It knew the stark difference between life and death, and the strange oblong, green egg before it was definetly alive.

"I told you, Ah-Un, it's not that kind of alive," the Girl insisted. "It's a fruit and you're supposed to eat it."

"Save your breath, Rin," the Imp barked. "It's too stupid to understand."

Ah-Un gave an indignant grunt. Of course it understood! Although the dragon couldn't remember too far back, it was certain that it came from an egg not much different than this one. As a matter of fact, Ah-Un could hardly wait for the egg to hatch. Not to prove its companions wrong so much as to be like Master and have its own little one trail after it.

A bellow rumbled gently out of both of Ah-Un's throats when the Girl turned back to the Imp. "You know what we need to do?" she grinned, smacking a fist to her palm. "Take Ah-Un down to where it could see more of these! Then it'll understand, Master Jaken."

Before the Imp could protest Ah-Un was being led by the reigns toward a large field it hadn't noticed passing earlier.

"There, you see?" The Girl pointed. "They all grow here, and what you have is a water- Hey! Ah-Un! Are you okay?!"

As the twin-headed dragon keeled over on its side one final thought broke through.

My little egg has to go to daycare!
