Chapter 21
Lost and found
She bowed to the reverend as he slowly stepped back allowing her to take charge.
"Thank you," she said taking in a deep breath. "...Takuto was..." she paused and the audiences attention was diverted to the back door as one of the ushers frantically ran into the room.
"Someone please Takuto he...!" he screamed.
"What?" Tarou asked standing, clearly angry that Mitsuki's speech had been interrupted.
"Takuto!" Mitsuki cried running to the small room she had last saw him. Her heart froze when she stood in the small door way...The body was gone. The small assembly of people soon crowded the room.
"He's gone!" Mitsuki cried.
"Mitsuki it's fine, I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for all of this we just have to-"
"Have to what!" Mitsuki asked Eichi incredulously, "wait for him to come back? What if someone stole the body, what if he wasn't actually..." She had to sop herself on her last sentence. The possibility that he could still be alive was too great and she didn't want to have hope over something that was an impossibility.
"Mitsuki, it's over, don't go thinking that just because he's alive you can just go running back to him. You belong to me now." Eichi threatened not too concerned about the audience.
"Eichi you can't own her when her heart-"
"No," Mitsuki interrupted Izumi. "He...he's right, that's just stupid that he would be alive and...and even if he was I doubt he would...take me, take me back..." She was slowly breaking down again. Her watered down eyes slowly trailed across the faces of those around her. They varied from sad to pity filled. "But," she began, "If there is any chance he is still alive we have to find him, even if he's not we can't just be glad his bodies gone and erase him from our hearts, we have to find him because he would have done the same for any of us," Mitsuki finished.
"Except for Eichi," Izumi mumbled quietly. Mitsuki gave him a stern look then turned for the door.
"We will go look then meet back here at nine, if no one has found him then we will keep looking."
"Should we break off into groups?" Tarou asked.
"No, the group is so small, I think it would be faster to go alone." Mitsuki replied wanting to just leave to look for Takuto.
"But that's too dangerous Mitsuki, I would feel better if I went with you," Eichi interceded.
"Like that's the safest option for her!" Izumi snorted.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Eichi asked defensively.
"I know what you did to her. So you better pray to the lord that Takuto is not still breathing because when or if he finds out well..." He let out a dark chuckle. "I guess you'll just have to find that out for yourself..."
"Are you threatening me?" Eichi asked unfazed.
"And here I thought you were the smart one..." Izumi sighed shrugging his shoulders.
"How dare you-"
"Stop you two!" Mitsuki yelled, stepping between the two. "We have to go look for Takuto. Eichi I'll be fine, I'm not seven I can look out for myself, and Izumi keep it to yourself." She didn't actually know how to answer Izumi's statement. It still horrified her that Eichi had done that to her, and what was even worse was that Izumi had found her. Luckily she had managed to untie her hands before he burst into the room. But all this talk made her think, what would have happened if it was Takuto who had found her? And what would her life be like if it was Takuto who had taken her and not Eichi? Her heart pounded at her last thought, how could she think of such a lewd possibility at a time like this.
"Lets go!" Mitsuki waved her hand racing out of the building. The hot sun beat against her skin as the rays soaked into her dark clothes.
Her mind was blank as she raced around the city calling out his name. How were you supposed to look for someone who was supposedly dead?
"Takuto!" She called once she reached a small park.
"What are you trying to do here Izumi?" Eichi asked darkly. The rest of the crowd had departed as soon as Mitsuki left, but Eichi had grabbed Izumi holding him back.
"What are you talking about?" Izumi asked flatly.
"I mean why are you trying to sabotage me and Mitsuki's relationship? It's not like it would affect you in anyway."
"I love Takuto that's why," he said.
"Well then go after him yourself and have you're own little gay-"
"Not like that you fuck! He's my best friends," Izumi's temper was flaring. "Love is something you'll never understand, whether it being for a friend or a girl, you'll never know!"
"And how do you know that? I have Mitsuki, I used to be all she thought about," Eichi sneered crossing his arms.
"Well maybe at a time that might have been the case, but from what I heard you changed and you're not the person you used to be and that bothers her." Izumi replied imitating Eichi's stance.
"I'm all she talks about, and I claimed her for myself," he grinned darkly not missing Izumi's disgusting look.
"Just because you fuck someone doesn't mean you own them," Izumi spat repulsed.
"I didn't fuck her, we made love," Eichi corrected her.
"You tied her down and raped her, that's not love. In fact that's a federal crime, I could report you." Izumi smiled liking the option.
"Ha ha, silly Izumi you couldn't do that. And you call me the dumb one! Who were the ones who kidnapped her and almost killed her, hm? You should be happy I didn't report all of your asses as soon as she got home!"
'Fuck,' Izumi thought knowing they were even. He couldn't do anything legally even if he needed to.
"So we're even," Eichi finished. "Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go 'look for' Takuto," he smiled leaving the room.
Izumi clenched his fist standing in the quiet room. He was in a lose lose situation, no matter what he did he couldn't save Mitsuki from Eichi, she was his. "Fuck!" he roared punching the closest wall.
"Takuto!" Mitsuki called again. She swallowed hard finding it hard to call through her now dry throat. It was so hot and she desperately needed a drink. With no money and no fountains nearby she was only faced with one option. She ran back towards her apartment, she wished she was stronger but as soon as she swayed a few times from dehydration she knew she needed something to fuel her. She was never that great in the heat and was prone to heat stroke.
Rounding the corner she froze in her tracks when she saw someone in a black suit sitting with their head between their knees. She couldn't figure out who it was and immediately thought the worse.
"Eichi?" Her raspy voice asked, he must have forgotten the key, but why was he here when they were looking for... "E-ichi?" she asked again. She saw the man flinch then slowly look up to her. Her heart collided against her ribcage when her brown eyes sunk into an ocean of deep blue.
She didn't say anything, all she could do was race over onto him hugging him closely. "Takuto, Takuto, Takuto," she found her voice singing his name repeatedly.
"Mitsuki," was his only response.
"Takuto I thought you were...I thought," she couldn't even believe he was here in her arms.
"Me too," he answered gently wiping away the tears from her cheeks.
Mitsuki blushed noticing just now that she was straddling him in a public area, she was about to get up unwillingly until his arm slightly constricted.
"I don't mind...I mean if, if you don't," he smiled loosening his grip waiting for a reply, which was Mitsuki snuggling closer. "S-so where, where are we now?" he asked quietly.
"At my apartment," she replied.
"N-no I mean where are we..." he licked his lips not knowing how to go further. What if they were just friends after all of that?
Mitsuki slowly leaned back to look into his eyes, there were so many things she needed to tell him. "Takuto I..." But how could she say them? After everything that had happened, she was too tainted to be his after what Eichi had done. "I don't know," she put her head against his chest. Silence surrounded them.
"B-but h-ow did you..." Mitsuki didn't know what was wrong with her, she couldn't formulate a proper sentence in her mind.
"I don't really remember," he started guessing at her question, "All I really remember was sleeping for a long time then waking up in a creepy coffin. Then I heard freaky music and I didn't want to check it out so I left, then I saw I was in the city where I kidnapped you, so I decided to go to your apartment and wait for you cause I didn't know what floor you lived on."
If she wasn't feeling so shocked or lost she would have laughed.
"Why didn't you come into the main area where everyone was?" She asked quietly.
"I told you the music was creeping me out I had to get outta there," he replied, "But nice try in changing the subject," he added. Mitsuki bit her lip, she had to tell him.
"T-Takuto, before anyone tells you anything you have to know one thing," she leaned back resting her hands on his shoulders capturing his attention. "When I found you on the ground and thought you were dead, it was almost as bad as when my parents died. Maybe even worse, there was one thing I did that day that I'll never be able to take back and will never want to," she paused looking deep into his eyes. "I love you." His eyes widened. "And that note you wrote, which by the way is a terrible way to say goodbye, almost broke my heart."
"I had to do it for you," he whispered. "For so long I tried to distance myself from others because I was terrified to feel the pain of loosing them, but then you came along and destroyed my perfectly built walls." her heart was going erratic.
"Do you remember the kiss?" she asked. "In the garden?"
"I could never forget it," he smiled, "your perfect lips against mine, it was the last thing I wanted to remember before I...'left,'" he said gently brushing back stray strands of hair from her cheek.
"Me neither," was all she could say feeling her dry throat burn. She kept staring into his eyes silently requesting him for a kiss. She saw a small smile grace his lips as he slowly leaned forward to meet hers in a gentle embrace. This kiss was not as rushed as the first and the simple touch sent her heart into a wild frenzy.
"Mitsuki," he sighed against her lips, "I-"
"Mitsuki!" Mitsuki shot back on Takuto's lap to see fiery hazel eyes burning down onto her then to Takuto.
"What are you doing!" Eichi roared.
"Eichi I," Mitsuki shivered which Takuto did not miss. Instinctively he tightened his grip on her.
"So you give me your all then run to a different man?" he asked.
"Eichi, don't," Mitsuki said shortly.
"What? Did you not tell him?" Eichi smiled.
"Tell me what?" Takuto asked never tearing his glare away from Eichi who was now laughing.
"We made-"
"No!" Mitsuki screamed, "we didn't do anything!"
"No, I want to know," Takuto said shortly.
"We made love," Eichi's grin grew. Mitsuki looked from Eichi to Takuto. She gasped when she felt Takuto's arms leave her sides.
"I..." he was at a loss of words.
"No, Takuto please don't leave I didn't, I mean we did, but not like that!"
"What does that mean?" he asked skeptically.
"Yes Mitsuki what does that mean?" Eichi asked darkly.
"Wait, Mitsuki whats wrong?" Takuto asked when she started shaking in his arms. "Mitsuki, Mitsuki!" He yelled.
"Eichi you raped me!" She screamed pointing an accusing finger at him. "How could you! I used to love you but I can't now, not after that. You broke me completely!" She wailed trying to push away from Takuto but he held her fast.
"What the fuck did you just say?" Takuto growled.
"Well the truth is out, but want to know the best part Takuto?" Eichi sung. "You can't do anything legally, you squeal and I tell the cops u kidnapped Mitsuki. I mean I'm no rocket scientist but I'm pretty sure that too is a federal crime," he smiled turning towards the apartment door. "Are you ready to go home Mitsuki?" he asked. She shook her head. "Mitsuki, you have to."
"She doesn't have to do fuck all for you!" Takuto said standing with Mitsuki, "I'll go to jail if it means Mitsuki will be free from you," he vowed, Eichi's eyes widened.
"No Takuto," Mitsuki gasped, grabbing his sleeve. "It's fine, why don't you just stay with us? It's the least we could do," she smiled not wanting to think of the possibility of Takuto behind bars. She looked to Eichi who wore a thin grimace.
"Fine," Eichi mumbled walking away. He was amazed Takuto would sacrifice himself so easily like that, this would be harder then he thought.
"But first we have to go tell every one!" Mitsuki said grabbing Takuto's arm.
"Tell everyone what?" he asked too tired to go any where.
"We have to...to," Mitsuki slightly swayed.
"Mitsuki, what's wrong?" Takuto asked worriedly.
"I'm just so thirsty from looking for you and I kinda have a headache," she admitted looking away while biting her lip.
"Kinda? Mitsuki why don't we go rest then we can tell them."
"What time is it?" She asked.
"I don't know like four thirty or five?"
"Oh, well we don't have to meet till nine." She mumbled trying to stay conscience.
"Okay, but Mitsuki you don't have to make me stay if he's going to be an ass to you about it." He said holding her arms to keep her balanced and keep a hold on himself as well.
"No, to be honest Takuto I'm scared of him and I need you there with me." She said reaching for his hand.
"I'll always be there for you," he smiled taking her hand. "Forever."
