Chapter 22
Destiny
They slowly walked to the small church hand in hand not knowing what to say. She had peeked up a few times to make sure the man she was walking by was still there, it scared her that he might just disappear as soon as he had reappeared. A few questions swirled in her mind but she quickly threw them aside, just enjoying the moment of being by his side once more.
The warm sun slowly diluted behind the mountains turning the sky an orangey red. A soft breeze blew around her arms making her hair slightly dance around her small frame. She had switched out of her formal clothes into a white t-shirt and grey sweats. It made her smile that Takuto was still in his suite although he had ditched the coat and tie wearing the white dress shirt slightly undone.
"This is going to be real awkward," Takuto finally spoke making Mitsuki look up to him.
"Yeah," she replied giving his hand a small squeeze. "But I'll be there and…I think they may be happy that you're there," she said with a smile.
"Why's that?" he asked looking straight ahead of them enjoying the sunset.
"Because you broke the curse," she said softly. "Boy meets girl, boy wins girl," she giggled enjoying the words on her lips. Never did she think she would fall so strongly for a man.
"W-ait," he said softly. "So you…and me…and the curse and…." He stopped and turned to her triumphantly.
"Takuto I don't just kiss any boy and confess my love to him like that for nothing," she smiled turning to continue their path.
"Hey wait a sec!"
"Takuto!" she laughed when he grabbed her from behind spinning her in a circle. "What is it?"
"I don't know I'm just so…happy. I've never felt like this before and I just want to…hold you." He stopped spinning then set her on the ground loving the way her arms wrapped around him. He reached behind his back bringing her hands to his lips. "I love you," he said with confidence. "You are the only reason I was brought back. And I know now why I was put on this earth. We were destined to be together, destined to fall in love." Mitsuki smiled taking her hands from his lips placing them on either sides of his cheeks.
"I could have told you that so long ago!" she sighed.
"But you didn't, and next time I really hope you figure something out like that before I get myself killed," he replied with a grin.
"Well maybe next time instead of being the gentleman you should just sweep me off my feet and kiss me," she smiled touching his nose.
"So who exactly are we going to meet?" Takuto asked, once they had started their way again.
"Well there aren't many people but-"
"Takuto you stupid jerk!" Both Takuto and Mitsuki turned to see a fuming yellow haired man. "I told you not to kill yourself cause this stupid girl is in love with you!"
"Well maybe you should stop me and-"
"Okay!" Mitsuki interrupted waving her hands in between the two. "We just had this conversation, and what is important is that Takuto is here now and we can all be happy!" she smiled looking to Takuto who shared the same expression.
"Awe you're right, come here ya big idiot!" Izumi smiled opening his arms. Takuto smiled and the two friend hugged patting each other on the back.
"It makes it less gay if we pat each others back right?" Takuto asked.
"Yes!" Izumi replied. The two men pulled back from there embrace and started laughing. After some small chat the three looked at the white church before them.
"So what now?" Izumi asked looking into the sunset.
"Huh?" Takuto asked looking to the other man confused. "What do you mean?"
"Well Sheldon is still creeping around somewhere and Eichi." Both Mitsuki and Izumi turned to see Takuto who tensed at the second name.
"I'll kill him," Takuto growled.
"So that's illegal," Izumi pointed. "And don't you think it would be better to try and run?"
"Running is for cowards," Takuto said through barred teeth. "He wont have another peaceful sleep so long as I'm around."
"Takuto," Mitsuki said softly touching his arm. "I-I know it hurts and I know what he did will forever haunt me and you. But we have to move on, I want to start a new life with you. Eichi has nothing on you cause he rapped me so he can't charge you for kidnapping me. I'll go home tonight and break things off with him. I should have done it long ago before any of this happened but I realize now that this is something I have to do."
"Mitsuki," Takuto said touching her cheek. "I'll be there for you if-"
"No Takuto," she cut him off. "I have to go alone, you being there will hurt him more and-"
"But what if he hurts you! He already committed a crime against you and I don't want to see what he'll do to you when he finds out you're breaking up with him!" Takuto spat incredulously.
"I'll be okay, remember you gave me this," she smiled holding up the small cell phone like device he had given her so long ago.
"You kept it?" his eyes almost seemed to glow.
"Of course," she smiled holding it before his eyes. "It was one of the only things I had left of you, Takuto I will always-"
"Okay!" Izumi interrupted, "the others are waiting inside the church and I don't want to see you two get all lovey dovey on me so lets go!" he growled uncomfortable. Mitsuki and Takuto both laughed at him then followed.
The rest of that evening was full of laughs, tears, and joys. Tarou announced that the curse was finally broken and that they were free to now all go there separate ways. Tarou admitted that he was going to go to France to try his hand at painting and arts, where he would bring Minoru with him. Izumi and Meroko were going to try and find their own place to live and agreed to help Mitsuki and Takuto if need be.
"Are you nervous?" Takuto whispered when they stood outside of her apartment after leaving the church.
"Yes," she whispered holding both his hands in hers. The night was dark and the only thing that could be heard were a few crickets as a soft breeze flowed between the two.
"T-Takuto, when this is done, will you…can we…run," she asked looking into his eyes.
"Run where?" he asked not making a snarky comment like he had wanted to.
"Anywhere, Canada, Europe, China, anywhere. Can we start fresh."
"Anywhere you want to go," he started bringing one of her hands to his lips. "I'll go with you, forever," he finished kissing her hand.
"Thank you," she whispered. "I'll be back soon," she finished reluctantly pulling away from him.
He watched with worry in his eyes as his savior left him. He could only feel fear at what Eichi might do to her.
After packing the few necessities she had gained, and some money after her short return she walked into the living room to find Eichi sitting on the couch eyeing her bag skeptically.
"What's all of this?" he asked quietly sending a short shiver down her spine.
"Eichi," she started off shakily, gripping the device Takuto had given her tightly in her hand. "I-we aren't where we used to be in our relationship. You've changed and I have to, and I feel like it's time for us to…move one." She watched in fear as the man rose to his feet, hands balled into tight fists.
"What are you trying to get at?" he asked through barred teeth.
"Eichi I've moved on, it's time to move on."
"You already said that," he growled taking a step towards her.
"Eichi I want to break it off," she whispered.
"What?" he barked.
"You heard what I said!" She shivered when he started walking towards her.
"It's because of him, isn't it? Because you cheated on me with him, and now you're running to him! How do I know you're not going to do the same thing to him as you did with me?" he asked grabbing her wrists pushing her against the front door. "How do I know you wont leave him and he wont do the exact thing I did to you and be an asshole!" He screamed bowing his head to her chest.
"Eichi I-" she froze when she felt something wet hit her chest. Was he…crying?
"Mitsuki I don't want him to hurt you like I did, I don't want to see you in pain!" he said falling to his knees hugging her waist. "I'm sorry okay! I never meant to do any of those things to you! I have no idea what got over me. It's just that I searched for you for so long and then you come back to me by miracle- but you, you tell me there's another man you love, and leave me heart broken," he paused letting out a few soft sobs before continuing. "I had a dream Mitsuki, my dream was you. Every time I looked at you I felt hope, and I knew you were where I belonged, but then that dream was torn to shreds and I…I lost." Mitsuki couldn't help the tears which sprang to her eyes.
"Eichi I'm sorry," she mumbled falling to her knees returning his hug. "I had no idea and I…I never wanted to hurt you. It's true Eichi I do love you. But not in the same way, Takuto…Takuto is who I was meant to be with, but the fact that I had to break your heart in the process kills me!"
"I know you never would, that's not who you are," he whispered hugging her tighter. "Mitsuki, I promise to never harm you again but please don't leave me."
"Eichi I can't be with you and Takuto at the same-"
"No," he interrupted. "I'm saying that even if you stay with him and not me, just please don't disappear on me again. I want you to stay here in this city. As long as I know you are here and safe I think, I think I'll be able to survive," he finished loosening his grip.
"I promise," she whispered looking into his eyes. "Eichi I'll be here for you."
"Thank you, I love you."
Takuto looked up into the sky, the stars decorated it to no end and the moon was the seamless centre piece. He let out a soft sigh as he ran his hand through his night hair. As long as Mitsuki was safe then he would be fine.
"Well well look who came back," a dark voice chuckled.
"Sheldon," Takuto growled. "How did you know-"
"How didn't I know," he smiled nonchalantly. "It was the big news of the Kira family."
"Sheldon the curse is over so you can leave me alone and-"
"And what? Forget that all the other years didn't happen? Remember when you threw that rock at my head?" he asked touching the back of his head as if it had happened again.
"Yeah I do, and it was in self defense for me and Mitsuki, you have to let it go though. You cant keep things bottled up."
"Really why should I listen to you about being a good person? Weren't you the one who killed his own brother?"
"Shut up!" Takuto spat feeling somewhat remorse over what he had done. Sheldon let out a small chuckle.
"That's right, so you can't say a thing. You're just as bad as I am, maybe even worse cause I've never killed anyone before, well until now that is," he smiled moving too fast for Takuto to react. Before he knew it Sheldon had him pinned to a wall with his hands tightly curled around his neck. "I'm going to finish what I couldn't the last time in the forest," he growled tightening his grip. "Say hi to Kato when you see him, you can have a family reunion. You know I think it's kind of funny though, you managed to kill everyone in your family and live happily ever after. How does that make you feel about yourself? Or about your life?" he smiled malevolently.
"Takuto!" a shrill voice reached there ears. "Sheldon stop, stop!" She screamed running over to the man. "You're going to kill-" Before Mitsuki could finish a bright light surrounded them. Takuto who was slowly loosing his battle at life once again looked over Sheldon's shoulder to see a familiar figure. It was the old women -Fuzuki- He saw her look to Mitsuki who was crying on the ground then back to him and Sheldon.
"You!" her voice boomed with unearthly command. "Shall not hurt my great granddaughter and her lover in such a way!" her voice bellowed making Sheldon turn then loosen his grip. He was now staring death in the face.
"A-are you a shinigami?" he stuttered knowing she was not living.
"No, I am a spirit however and here to look over Mitsuki Koyama and Takuto Kira from now on. If any one is to put any harm on them I will eliminate them." Sheldon took a step away from Takuto when the women's eyes turned red.
"I-I'll never hurt them I swear, I'll leave them alone!" The figure let out a low chuckle.
"Good choice, but if you ever lay a hand- or purposely try to harm them in anyway ever again, it will be the end of you," her voice grew low making both Mitsuki and Takuto shiver.
"I promise!" And before the three of them could react they were back in their normal surrounding looking at one another.
"What just?" Mitsuki began.
"Fuzuki," Takuto whispered. "She led me back to you," he smiled walking over to her.
"I'm getting outta here!" Sheldon screamed, and like a dog with his tail between his legs ran the other way. Mitsuki and Takuto both watched then began to laugh.
"S-so how'd it go over with Eichi?" Takuto asked concernedly.
"H-he's going to be okay," was all she could say. The few words they had shared were between her and Eichi only and Takuto seemed to pick up on the fact.
"Mitsuki," he started taking her hand in his. "Thank you, for breaking the curse and bringing me back to life. I know that without you my life was nothing and I promise that for now and forever I will be by your side, I love you."
"Takuto, I love you too. And without you I don't think that my life would be half as exciting or filled with half as much love as I have for you. If it's okay I want to stay here in Japan, but I want to start my new life with you…is that okay?"
"Well other then the fact you like to change your mind like crazy, I think I really like that idea," he smiled leaning forward until his lips met hers in a gentle embrace. Their arms wound around one another as they shared many sweet kisses, about to start their new journey of life with one another.
