"Everte Statum!"

When Severus Snape openly defied the Slytherins in order to protect Lily, he had not anticipated the level of retaliation that might occur. He knew Lily was strong and that all he had to do was support her and it would be fine, but hearing someone call his best friend a mud blood was outraging. He'd heard his mother, in all her glorious hypocrisy, say it many times. But the voice who had spoken to him had been the first voice of well….reason. His mother was obviously delusional because her husband had come to hate what she really was. He only loved her when she was a normal muggle woman of no interest. And in a sense, he had become poisoned. Even though he was a Gryffindor he still paid a good deal of interest to the Dark Arts, he just didn't submit himself to them. The voice had led him to see that power, the dark arts, and everything else could still be obtained while protecting Lily Evans.

And in his newfound noble bravery he had just so happened to upset the wrong people. The people who followed the Dark Lord he had intended to follow. Though mere children they already had the idea- attack all those who interfere and protect mud bloods. And that was why Severus Snape had just been thrown backwards against a wall by Mulciber and Avery, two Slytherins who were most certainly exacting revenge for his little showing of 'bravery'. "Still happy you protected that little mud blood? That was a cute spell you used, did you read it in some old text book and save it just to impress your little girlfriend?" Avery mocked him as he laid on the ground. Severus was cursing himself. Yet somehow, he couldn't regret it. He just cursed that he let these two imbeciles with a vendetta and bloodlust to prove themselves got the best of him.

How could he regret anything that made Lily Evans proud of him?

No.

It made him proud of himself.

"Expelliarmus!" a voice suddenly shouted from behind Mulciber and Avery. Avery's wand flew out of his hand and there stood Lily Evans and Remus Lupin. "I think it would be wise to leave duelling to one on one fights, lest you would like yourself to be proven weak, unless that is what you feared in the first place.." Remus said almost mockingly, Severus was a little stunned to hear such heavy words from Lupin, when most perceived him as weak and submissive. Mulciber looked to Avery and gave a growl, grabbing Avery's wand and running, Avery soon following behind him.

Severus looked up at the people who had saved him. On their faces were looks of understanding. "I can't stand those blokes," Lily said, angry at their attempt to corner and harm her friend. Severus stood up and a light smile threatened to play on his face. His friends had come to save him.

"Me either."
