Sir Cadogan's Advice to Severus

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Outside the Great Hall, right hand side...

"Who goes there?"

"Who speaks to me?" snapped Headmaster Snape

"'Tis I, Sir Cadogan." replied the portrait.

"Ah, sir knight. I need you to notify the other portraits that we are about to battle. Spread the word through the castle, I must go."

"You run from battle?"asked the knight.

"No, I run into battle. I must keep the Potter boy safe as long as I can. I swore an oath and will not be an oath-breaker, no matter what else I might be." replied Snape.

"Then good luck to you, Headmaster. I hope you are successful in your endeavor."

"Fare thee well, sir knight. I pray I am successful or all may be lost." and Snape turned on his heel, determined to give the boy as much time as possible, even if it meant his life. For he knew what he had tried to deny to himself for years – Harry Potter was the hope of the future. Although he knew he would not live out the day, he was determined to do his damnedest to ensure his victory.
