Sesshomaru sat in the tiny booth of a remarkably bad replica of an old Italian style restaurant. He was gently watching the interaction between his sweet little girl and this beautiful woman he desperately wanted to know.
They were giggling and smiling, while playing some sort of game Kagome had made up with a spoon. She was sticking it to the end of her nose making Rin squeal with laughter.
He again for the second time that day let a small smile pass across his lips. Unfortunately for him the woman caught it and immediately returned it with a warmth he never believed was possible.
Kagome was most definitely having an affect on him and he wasn't quite sure if he liked it or not. The only people ever able to affect him in anyway was that sweet little girl and his father.
Kagome delighted them both with silly stories of things Dr Miyagi's assistant had done over the years causing laughter from Rin and a quiet nod from Sesshomaru.
Oh Sesshomaru could easily see Kagome in his life now. Not only as a good companion to Rin but also a good companion for himself as well. She was smart, funny, caring and very beautiful.
As he sat back enjoying his imaginary future with Rin and Kagome his phone started to buzz. A deep frown crossed Rin's tiny face. She knew whomever was calling would probably take him away.
"What is it now? You are where? What happened?…Never mind I will come and bail you out and you can explain yourself to me then." Sesshomaru hung up his phone with an angry glare.
He softened his face and turned to Rin and the woman. "I have a very important errand to run, Kagome would you mind coming with and watching Rin while I take care of it?" He gave her an almost pleading eye.
"Um..Sure I would love to spend some more time with Rin. Is everything all right?" She asked with great concern on her face. Warming his heart even more. "It's nothing that can't be fixed in a matter of minutes."
After they piled into his SUV he looked back at Rin and said "Hey buttercup how would you like it if we went to pick up uncle Yasha?" She squealed and clapped her hands. "Yay! Uncle Yasha!"
Kagome's heart sank to her feet. 'We are picking up Inuyasha? Was he the one who needed bail? Should she let Sesshomaru know that she knows him, intimately?'
Before another thought had a chance to cross her mind they were parking at the station. Kagome got out of the car and slid into the back seat with Rin. "I will be right back." He said with a nod.
Kagome was sweating and wringing her hands rhythmically. Rin was chatting away about her uncle Yasha but Kagome was finding it hard to pay attention. She wanted get out of the car and run.
She had forgotten about Inuyasha a little and was enjoying the attention from Sesshomaru. She was getting used to the idea that he was gone. But what will happen when she sees him again. 'Damn him!' she thought.
Soon the two most beautiful men ever created were walking towards the car. Inuyasha looking disheveled and super pissed. Sesshomaru was remarkably emotionless looking.
Inuyasha reached the door to the front seat, as soon as he opened the door he saw her. "What the fuck is this?" He yelled with all of his charming brute force.
"Inuyasha, if you ever swear like that in front of my child again I will make you eat those words and then some. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?" Both Rin and Kagome looked at each other with eyebrows raised.
Kagome never thought Sesshomaru to be the type to raise his voice. He always seemed to keep things on an even keel. She knew the two men weren't close but she really knew nothing more.
Inuyasha turned in his seat and smiled at Rin " Sorry Rinny. Uncle Yasha is having a very bad day. You should never use words like that." Then he winked at her and turned back around.
He made absolute sure not to make eye contact with Kagome. "So what is it that you are so upset about you feel the need to swear in front of my child and my guest." Sesshomaru's voice had returned to his normal tone as if nothing had happened.
Inuyasha turned in his seat to look at his brother. "You really don't know do you?" He looked a little dumbfounded at his brothers ignorance to the situation.
"Well of course I don't know, why would one ask a question if they already knew the answer, Inuyasha?" Kagome decided she had better speak up before Inuyasha humiliated her and ruined any chance with the handsome doctor.
"I think I can clear this up, Inuyasha and I know each other Sesshomaru. We have for a very long time now. In fact I actually met Rin at your parents house before she came to the clinic. But he has been rather unpleasant lately so we haven't spoken in a while." She shifted in her seat feeling uncomfortable.
"I didn't put it together that you were related until later. Then I still thought it wasn't important. I didn't realize we would be picking him up until we got in the car. I am sorry it all seemed unimportant at the time." She was wringing her hands again. Rin reached out and touched her arm, Kagome put her hand on top of it.
"You would think it unimportant." Inuyasha grumbled out under his breath. "Well whatever is going on between the two of you ends now. Inuyasha has much bigger things on his plate than petty fighting." Sesshomaru's voice was a little angry again, very little but there none the less.
"Good Kagome needs to move on in her life anyway." Inuyasha was definitely sulking now. "I am happy to hear that little brother because I would like to date her if she will let me." He looked at her in the rearview mirror, she blushed.
She grinned and said she would like nothing more, Inuyasha slid down in his seat. Folding his arms over his chest in a perfect little kid pout. "Keh" He grumbled.
The rest of the ride back to Kagome's office to pick up her car was very quiet. Rin had fallen asleep and all of the adults clearly had a lot on their minds.
When they got to her car Sesshomaru jumped out of the car and opened her car door for her. She thanked him for the dinner. He said it was his pleasure.
"Kagome I hope you still have my number, I really want you to call me." He leaned in and kissed her cheek. She let out a deep breath she wasn't even aware she was holding and smiled back at him.
"I will, I promise. I really did have fun tonight. I think Rin is the greatest kid ever. I also think she has a pretty special dad too." She blushed again and turned to get in her car as Sesshomaru got into his.
Still enjoying the glow of a new found relationship she was interrupted when Inuyasha came barreling around the car. "What the hell do you think you are playing at wench." He came right up to her face.
"What are you talking about, Inuyasha? Rin, Sesshomaru and I went to have pizza. We had fun. We enjoyed each others company. Kinda the way you and I used too." She opened her car door and Inuyasha shut it.
Sesshomaru got back out of his car now. "Kagome are you all right? Is the little half breed bothering you?" Inuyasha turned and faced his brother.
"What we are talking about ain't got nothing to do with you fluffy." Things were getting dangerous and Kagome knew it.
She put her hands on Sesshomaru's chest. "Everything is fine. Inuyasha was just getting ready to get back in the car. Weren't you, Inuyasha?" She gave him a death glare that had Inuyasha running to the passenger seat.
"Inuyasha thinks because we are friends he can tell me how to live my life. Well he can't. I am fine. Kiss Rin goodnight for me. I will call you tomorrow." She gave him her warm smile again and turned to get into her car.
Sesshomaru grabbed her shoulders and spun her around to face him. He gently pulled her close and bent his head down towards hers. He softly rubbed his nose against hers and brushed his lip close to hers.
She shivered and not because it was cold. He gently pressed his lips against hers and gave her a sweet lingering kiss. Not too much just a little taste of what was yet to come.
Her knees gave out and she had to grab onto the door to steady herself. "Goodnight Kagome. You are a very special woman. A very special woman I can't wait to know more about."
With that she got in her car and left. While Sesshomaru being a gentleman he waited for her to leave. She thought to herself as she pulled away. 'I wonder what the conversation will be like in that car.'
"Sesshomaru, I want you to stay away from her. Kagome is not a toy." He was back to slumping in his seat with his arms crossed pouting once again.
"So give me one good reason why I can't date her. Because otherwise I have every intention on getting to know her. She is a very special girl. Not that you had noticed" He looked strait ahead with his face as stoic as ever.
"Hnn. I noticed. Kagome is the most amazing woman in the world. She is my best friend, of course I know it." He was getting really loud, causing Sesshomaru to shush him and look back at Rin.
In a very hushed tone, Sesshomaru almost missed, Inuyasha whispered "You can't because she is in love with me." He hung his head down as if ashamed of what he had just said.
His mind raced back to the day she had told him and how he told her he would never love her. 'What a dick I am. How could I miss such a chance? Why did I let myself moon over that bitch Kikyo for so long?' he was watching the scenery go by waiting for Sesshomaru's perfect reply.
And so it came, the question that made Inuyasha's head spin from the thought of it. "Are you deserving of this love from Kagome and do you love her back little brother?" Sesshomaru said nothing else. He just let his words hang in the air. Humiliating and pounding Inuyasha with their truth.
"No I suppose I don't deserve her love and she certainly does deserve better than me." He hung his head low again. Sesshomaru was looking at him.
He actually felt sorry for him. His brother was obviously hurting. 'Great I finally find a girl I really want to explore and my ignorant little brother is in love with her. But Inuyasha clearly doesn't deserve her. All is fair in love and war, I guess.' He thought bringing another slight smile to his beautiful face.
