Kagome, Sesshomaru and Rin arrived at Sesshomaru's mansion after a wonderful day at the beach. It was still a little cold outside but they had fun looking for shells and watching the tide come in and out. It was late in the evening and Rin was fast asleep in Sesshomaru's arms.
As they walked through the door the butler hurried to meet them. He whispered into his bosses ear and his face went white. "Are you serious? What the hell has he gotten himself into? Please take Rin to Ms. Peabody and have her put her to bed. I will see what is going on."
He turned on his heel and headed down the corridor to his den. "Kagome could you please come with me I may need your help." She immediately followed wondering what in the world could be wrong. He seemed very angry, a side she was not used to seeing from him.
Coming into the den she automatically saw the reason behind his anger. Inuyasha lay there on the leather sofa, breathing labored and blood all over his chest. Kagome's hand shot to her mouth just as a gasp escaped her lips. "What happened?"
Sesshomaru ignored her and shook Inuyasha trying to awake him from his unconscious state. As he came to Kagome could see he was finding it harder to catch his breath. "Sesh, he shot me. That mother fucking bastard shot me twice.' His head fell back on the arm of the couch and his eyes closed again.
"Kagome, please go out into the entry way and grab my black bag by the front door." Kagome didn't move she just stood there, hand over her mouth, frozen and staring at Inuyasha. "Kagome, please I need medical supplies NOW!" He raised his voice hoping to snap her back to where he needed her to be.
"Huh, oh yes of course, be right back." She hurriedly backed out of the room and ran down the hallway. Sesshomaru shook Inuyasha again. "Yasha, what happened to you? Who shot you? What were you doing?" When he didn't respond Sesshomaru took his clawed hand and ripped open Inuyasha's shirt.
A small gasp left his mouth. On immediate inspection he saw an exit wound through Inuyasha's left shoulder. The bullet had gone clean through. Sesshomaru knew that this would not cause the labored breathing. He couldn't see any other wounds which he knew was bad.
Turning Inuyasha on his side he found the site he was looking for. Blood was quickly coming out of a hole in Inuyasha's back. 'Inuyasha has demon blood and is a good healer, but a bullet in his lungs even a full demon couldn't survive that.' Sesshomaru thought as he decided what to do with him.
Kagome came in the room carrying the black medical bag Sesshomaru had asked for. "Oh, Kagome thank you. Bring it over here please." She noticed a look on his face that she had never seen before. It was worry and even possibly a little fear. 'Great if he is scared and worried it must be really bad.' She swallowed the lump that threatened to build in her throat.
"Is he going to be all right?" She almost hated to ask after seeing his face when she came in. " I think so. I will stabilize him and we can call an ambulance. He is going to need surgery. I am pretty sure he has a bullet in his lung."
Kagome's hand came up as she gasped again. "What can I do to help?" She came over and brushed the bangs out of Inuyasha's eyes then turned back to look at Sesshomaru. "Can you call an ambulance while I get his vitals and try and stop the bleeding."
Inuyasha moaned, reached out and grabbed Kagome's hand. "No hospital. I am a wanted man again and I can't go to the hospital, please." His voice was barely a whisper and his breathing was even more labored than before. Kagome shot Sesshomaru a confused look. She didn't know what to do.
Sesshomaru leaned over Inuyasha and said "What did you do Inuyasha? Why would someone shoot you?" But Inuyasha was already unconscious again. Sesshomaru stood back up and turned toward Kagome. Sliding his arm behind her back he ushered her away from Inuyasha and to the other side of the room. "I am going to the hospital to pick up what I will need. I am going to give him a dose of morphine to keep him still until I return. I stopped the bleeding for now but he has to lie still." Kagome nodded her understanding.
After Sesshomaru felt Inuyasha was sufficiently stable he turned to Kagome. "Please watch him closely, he is in a lot of danger. I have to go. Thank you and I am sorry. Call me if anything changes, understand?" He pulled her close to him and gave her a very soft kiss on the forehead.
She hugged him back, gave him a kiss on the cheek and whispered "hurry, please." He nodded and headed towards the door. She gave him a small worried smile and turned to head back to Inuyasha. She pulled a chair over next to the couch so she could sit next to him.
He seemed so weak and almost small, like a child. She wanted to help him so badly. She brushed another round of unruly bangs from his face. He looked so peaceful and angelic. She ran her thumb along his cheek as a lone tear ran down hers.
She felt a hand come up and grab the hand on his cheek. She looked down to see his beautiful golden hues staring back at her. "I am sorry Kag's" He barely whispered it but she heard it. "Sshh, you shouldn't be talking or moving right now. Your brother has gone to get some supplies to help you. He'll be right back. Please just be quiet and lie still. Doctor's orders." She gave him a soft smile.
"Oh Kagome, I am so sorry. I never meant to cause you trouble. I never meant to do you wrong or cause you any harm. I am so stupid and I never deserved you or your love." He had to stop talking his breathing was so labored now and he was starting to make wheezing sounds from the air escaping his lungs.
"Sshh, will ya. Now is not the time or place for such discussions. It's done and over with. I am happy now so just let it be, ok. You really need to rest now." She put his hand in hers and started to rub the back of it with her other hand.
"No Kagome, I need to tell you now, in case something happens. I love you, I need you. If I live through this I will fight to win back your love. I am sorry I hurt your pride and I know all that I put you through. But if you give me a chance I will prove I love you." He coughed up some blood as tears streamed from his eyes.
Kagome wrapped herself around him and pushed him back onto the couch. "Inuyasha please stop, can we talk about this later? You need to rest, please Inuyasha. Please just lay still and be quiet." Tears started to swell and she leaned up and kissed his cheek.
She stood up and looked down on him. "I will be right back please just rest." She ran to the bathroom just as the tears came. She sat on the edge of the bath tub and let them come. Wrapping her arms around her. Pulling herself together she dried her eyes and cleaned up her makeup.
Grabbing a washcloth from the cabinet she wet it down in the sink. Walking back into the den she put a smile back on her face. Leaning over Inuyasha she gently rubbed the washcloth across his forehead. "How does that feel? Better?"
He smiled and slowly nodded at her. He then rubbed his head against her hand relishing in the cool touch of the washcloth. "Sesshomaru will be here soon. Just hold on a little longer sweetheart, it's going to be ok." She looked at her watch and wondered what was taking him so long.
'Oh please hurry Sesshomaru I don't think he will last much longer.' She bent over him again and wiped the cloth over his forehead again. Carefully watching his shallow breathing and worrying herself to madness. He was no longer responding to her words or touches.
She heard noises in the hall and knew he must have arrived. She stood to meet him but he had already come into the den. He had a servant with him and some sort of stretcher. "How is he doing? We are going to have to move him to the dining room table Kagome" His brows were furrowed in concern.
The servant and Sesshomaru moved Inuyahsa into the dining room and put him on the table. He had the other servants set the room up like an operating room. There was medical equipment spread through out the room.
Sesshomaru rolled up his sleeves and headed to scrub up. One of the servants helped him put on gloves and a mask. "Kagome I will need you to watch the monitor. If it goes below this point you need to tell me immediately." He pointed to a line on the machine and Kagome nodded her understanding.
Sesshomaru put the anesthesia mask over Inuyasha's face to keep him comfortable. The servant seemed to be well trained and went to work at Sesshomaru's side. They carefully went to work on removing the bullet from Inuyasha's lung.
Kagome heard Sesshomaru mention that he was working blind without an x-ray to let him know where the bullet was logged. He seemed to be doing well though because she heard the bullet hit a metal pan sitting on the table. Kagome let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.
She noticed the line on the machine had moved and mentioned it to Sesshomaru. "Turn the blue knob until the line returns to where it was. Turn it slowly please." She did as she was told and it returned just as he said it would.
"Mio, suction and sponge please I cannot see, too much blood." Kagome's stomach dropped. She was terrified that he might die. 'Not Inuyasha. Please no. He needs to know I still love him. I can't help it but it's true. I do still love him. I don't want to but I do. Please don't die.'
