As Sesshomaru sat on the bench of the small fishing boat his Father had rented, his thoughts were only on one thing. Rin, the sweet little girl who had changed his life.

He thought back to the day the paramedics had brought her into the hospital. She was so small and completely malnourished. She was filthy and was only wearing a raggedy pair of training pants. Sesshomaru thought she was only a baby maybe 16 mo old at best. He was horrified when he saw she was around three.

Her family had been killed mistakenly by a gang of wolf demons that believed her father had owed money. She had been wandering the streets for what they had assumed to be weeks. They had know idea what she had been surviving on, but by the look of her teeth it wasn't very good. She was so weak and so scared, and Sesshomaru's heart melted instantly.

He knew automatically he needed to protect and save her. Somehow she knew he would too. He was the only person she would trust. He would come to her room, for feeding, medication and changing of her bandages. She would scream if anyone else would try to touch her. Should never spoke, she would just smile at him with complete trust in her eyes.

After a few weeks and several social worker visits. The decision was made that they were going to place her in a home for "special" children. They were also going to put her on several medications. The social worker decided she had been too traumatized to live a normal life and the best they could hope for was a quiet one for her.

Sesshomaru was furious. He knew there was nothing wrong with the child that love and time couldn't fix. He fought with the social worker to find her a good home. The woman insisted that there was no one who would be willing to take on such a girl. She told him sometimes children are just broken.

Sesshomaru had her fired and adopted Rin as his own. Rin's progress was swift once she moved in with the Takahashi family. Within two days she had already started to call Sesshomaru Daddy. She liked Izayoi and his Father, who relished the idea of being grandparents. But most of all she loved her Uncle Yasha.

The two were inseparable. The joy on the little girls face when his stupid half brother would show up was immeasurable. He even felt a twinge of jealousy sometimes. Then he would see how much happiness they both shared during their time together and all he could feel was love for his stupid brother. His brother had stepped up and had become the greatest Uncle of all time.

Sesshomaru turned and looked at his brother sitting next to him. Smiling, for once, he said " Yasha, did I ever thank you for being such a great Uncle to my child?" Inuyasha laughed "Keh, you ain't gotta thank me for that, Rin is the greatest kid ever. Stop smiling at me, your creepin' me out."

After punching Sesshomaru in the arm, Inuyasha folded his arms over his chest and sat back. He suddenly realized all his brother had put at risk because of his own stupidity. All this stuff with the jewel, Naraku and Kagome it was all his fault. His brother was risking his job, Rin and possibly his life. All because of him.

"You know Sessh, I should be thanking Rin. She changed you into a tolerable person." Inuyasha winked at him and elbowed him in the side. Inutaisho spoke up. " He is right Sesshomaru. Your demeanor has changed 10 fold since that little girl came into your life." He smiled and Sesshomaru had to grin because it was true.

Inuyasha thought about the day Sesshomaru brought Rin over to his parents house to meet everyone. She was so small but her smile was huge. The only thing was her teeth. They were brown and rotting. It made his heart ache whenever she smiled. Inuyasha mentioned he had a friend that worked at a dentists office and could help. Little did he know how that one comment would intertwine in all of this.

That made Inuyasha's mind wander back to Kagome. He thought about the first time he had coerced into sleeping with him. She was so pliant and willing. He knew she loved him so he decided to make it clear by letting her know he would never fall in love again. He remembered smelling some unshed tears but she smiled and allowed him to continue.

His heart clenched at the memory. He hated himself for his treatment of her. Looking back he could hardly believe he had been such a miserable being. He thought about how unworthy he was of the love Kagome had always given him unconditionally. He wished he had been a stronger man. He wished he had never slept with her or changed the friendship they both had shared.

He wished he had figured out how much he loved her before sleeping with her. So he could have showed her the same amount of love she had always showed him. He vowed to himself that if he was ever able to be with her again he would treat her like a queen. He looked over at his brother and gave him a soft smile. 'No' He thought to himself 'I will never have her again. If I love her I have to let her go'.

He broke from his thoughts as he felt the boat hit the shore.

AN: I am sorry this is taking so long. I have painted myself into a corner. I am having a lot of trouble writting the action sequence. I know there has to be one now and I am having difficulty writting it. I have tried several times and have been unhappy with the results every time. I know how I want it to end I am just having trouble with the inspiration on how to get to the end. I am truly sorry for being such a disgrace.
