Pidge had been awake the entire time. The moment that footsteps had approached the door Pidge had been alert. If she was being honest with herself she hadn't been asleep at all, She couldn't bring herself to fall asleep everything had been too loud. The beating of Lance's heart to the air flow that was coming through the vent up by the ceiling. When the cell door had opened she swore that she stopped breathing. She had tried to remain as still as possible when the cell door opened. It wasn't until that the cell door had closed and the footsteps faded that she realized what had happened. Lance was the one who had left the cell, not her. Lance was the one who the Galra had come to retrieve for who knows what.
That thought was enough for Pidge's chest to constrict but at the same time infuriate her. She couldn't bear the thought of Lance being hurt, but she was fearful of what would happen if she fought back.
It was maybe half an hour before an explosion rocked the entire ship. Alarms were blaring and several footsteps went running past Pidge's cell. She had been thrown forward from the force from whatever had exploded. She now stood her head pounding in time to the alarms.
Scratching at her cell door activated her flight or fight and she instantly moved to the side of the door, her back pressed flat against the wall. A few seconds later the door slid open and someone entered. Pidge didn't bother to see who it was before she lunged at the figure. The figure reacted and they tussled for a few seconds before the stranger pinned her against the wall, her hands down by her side.
"Pidge?"
She opened her eyes to look at the person who had pinned her. It was the black haired boy, the one she noticed had quite the temper at times. "Keith?" she asked, the name sounding foreign on her lips. It had been sometime since they had all told her their names.
"Where's Lance?" Keith asked in a way of answer.
"I don't know." Pidge said, shaking her head, "They took him."
Keith must've heard the quiver in her voice cause he released her arms and squeezed her shoulder. "We'll find him."
Pidge nodded her response and then they were out of the cell. It was corridor after corridor they ran down. They ran into an intersection, and the next thing that they knew they ran into Hunk and Shiro. They both had obtained their helmets and bayards. Hunk handed Keith's to him.
"Pidge says that the Galra took Lance. We need to find him." Keith said. "We still have time."
"But not very much, Allura and Coran gave us fifteen minutes and it's nearly up." Shiro said. He made eye contact with Pidge and something in his expression changed. "We need to move fast."
Everyone agreed to meet back at the castle of lions where Pidge offered a curious look at the others. She had forgotten that she needed to figure out why they called, what was clearly a spaceship, a castle.
"Why a castle of lions?" Pidge asked as she ran next to Keith.
He faltered in his steps when he heard her. "What?!"
"I mean it's clearly a spaceship, why do you guys call it a castle of lions?" They both slowed to a walk midway down the corridor.
"I hadn't thought about it to be honest."
Pidge had been about to respond when a scream drew their attention. It came from behind them. Keith instantly activated his bayard and held an arm out to keep Pidge behind him. Together they made their way to the door.
The door wasn't entirely closed so the two of them looked through the small opening. Pidge froze at the sight of Lance standing in the middle of a room, his arms hung loosely in front of him. Metal cuffs circled his wrists, the chain ran from the cuffs to the floor. He looked so broken and on the verge of collapse. Even now he swayed on his feet, however he remained firm on his feet. His hair was damp and stuck to his face in places.
His eyes had been closed but they flew open when a voice started speaking. Keith and Pidge had been trying to lean closer but the sensor picked them up instead. The door slid open and the two fell forward. Side by side practically laying on top of each other. In unison their heads flew up just as a Galra came into view. His blaster hung loosely at his side. Just behind the Glara, Lance was looking at them both with a mixture of surprise and rage.
At the sight of the blaster Keith and Pidge jumped to their feet. Keith moved to keep Pidge behind him but she darted out in front of him. She was only feet from Lance, but she was also feet from the Galra. She had no weapon and no way of defending herself.
"Pidge come back." Keith pleaded with her. His bayard was activated at his side and he was in a fighting stance.
"Yes, listen to him, go crawl back to safety." The Galra said, his voice dripping with condensation. "Let the men handle this."
Pidge stiffened. The way the galra had said it as if she was nothing. She was something. She was…She was…What was she? According to the other's she had been a paladin, but does that count if she doesn't remember it? Maybe the Galra was right, maybe she was nothing. But then the second comment brought her anger back in full force so what if she was a female? She could fight just as easily as any of them with the proper training.
She thought back to the day that she had tackled Lance to the floor. It was an instinct that had taken over her and she hadn't realized what had happened until Lance was pinned beneath her. She wondered as she glared at the Galra in front of her if that instinct would come back if she needed it.
"Pidge, go back to Keith and the two of you get out of here!" Lance said.
"We're not leaving you!" Pidge said, taking a couple steps towards Lance.
She was close enough that Lance grabbed a hold of her hands. "Pidge, you need to go with Keith."
"No." Pidge bit out the word. "You're coming with us!'
"Pidge. I can't." He pulled against the chains that held him to the floor. "Neither of us have weapons and by the time Keith gets over here the Galra will have shot him dead." He nudged Pidge back towards Keith. "So you need to go."
"Damn it, Lance! I'm not going!" Pidge pulled out of his grip.
"No one's leaving!" The galra shouted lunging towards Lance and Pidge.
Neither had time to react before the Galra was upon them. In one smooth motion he hooked his foot under the chain and jerked it upward. Lance flew forward falling to his knees. In the same motion the Glara took the butt of his blaster, bashing it into Pidge's head. She crumpled to the floor.
"Pidge!" Lance cried. The mission with the explosion flashing fresh across his mind, her still figure looking all too similar. A shot rang out to his left and he turned just in time to find the Galra standing with his Blaster pointed at Keith. A shocked expression on his face. His sword dropped from his hand, his eyes moved to his shoulder where a black hole was on his armor.
The blaster sounded again and Keith dropped to the floor a second black hole on his thigh. He rolled from his side onto his back grimacing in pain. The Galra made his way towards Keith.
"Stop!" Lance shouted jumping to his feet, He ran forward forgetting a moment that he was chained to the floor. He was reminded a few seconds later when the chain went taught and he was forced to stop.
The Galra ignored him as he finally came to a stop next to Keith. He grabbed Keith by his injured leg and dragged him over next to Pidge who was still out cold on the floor. Keith fought a scream as the Galra jerked on his leg before slamming it to the ground. The Galra gave a satisfied smile as he looked at Pidge and Keith. The Galra then turned to Lance meeting Lance's glare, his satisfied smile growing wider.
"I was expecting to torture you to get information, but I guess I can torture your friends instead." the Galra laughed, "It'll be fun to see how long it takes before you break."
