There he goes again, rushing off into the battlefield, sword held high. The very essence of a strong leader is embodied by him, a fearless warrior ready to strike down his enemies. All the other soldiers admire him, the enemies fear him and his reputation of never once even being injured in a battle. They all think that he has God on his side, that God is protecting him from harm and helping him win these battles.
They do not seem to know as I do that there is no God, or if there is he is not helping Arthur win this battle. No, there is no omnipotent being watching Arthur and protecting him from all harm, there is just me. A small insignificant servant on a hill overlooking the battlefield, no one would ever suspect that I am what has kept Arthur from harm.
That's the way I like it, no one knowing who I am and what I have done. People should not know the power that I wield or the choices I have had to make or the things that I have done to protect him. The people I have killed to keep Arthur from harm, no one would ever believe I did any of this, that's probably a good thing. After all if people found out then I would be killed for my powers, I would be killed by the very hand that I have saved countless times with no thanks in return.
Yes there are days when I want to be acknowledged as the person that has saved Camelot numerous times and its king so many more. There are days when I want to walk up to Arthur and tell him that it has been me all along, no God, no guardian angel, just me. Just Merlin all along.
The ending to this battle will be the same as all the others, the enemy will start to see why Arthur has such a fearsome reputation, they will see that nothing they do can harm him. When they see this, they too will begin to withdraw, they will begin to flee from his army and Arthur will let them. Arthur will watch as they run at the sight of him, watch them as they disappear into the forest trying to escape their fate. Yes, Arthur will let them flee, knowing that they too will spread the word that no one can harm him.
Arthur will never know that it is just me, just little old Merlin on a nearby hill protecting him. The knights will never know why their leader is never hurt. The enemies will never know the true reason why they should fear Arthur and his power. The people of Camelot will never know why they are no longer attacked. Only I will know the reasons for all of this and only I will ever know.
Forever and always I am the lone guardian of Arthur Pendragon, protecting him from harm in the knowledge that one day he will be the greatest man on earth.
A/N: So yeah, I wrote this when I was bored so it isn't that good. Please leave a review :)
