Who is your OC today?
My OC is Jameson K. Wilde. Though friends call him James.
What animal are they?
James is a red fox.
What do they look like? Special markings, colorations, etc.
James is a unique fox, due to a genetic fur disorder passed down from his mother it caused white fur to show up in places it normally doesn't. He had white fur on the top of his head, running up the front side of his ears and down the back of his neck. He also had white fur on the undersides of his arms up into the armpits and down a quarter of his rib cage ending in an oval like shape. He also had white fur in another area…but only his late mate knew about that. His paws and ears are not dipped in any color, instead they are the light russet color of his coat. His tail is tipped white. He always keeps the fur on top of his head longer, but not long enough to where it would fall over. He also keeps the fur on the sides of his cheeks longer as well, it made them look more…fluffy
His right eye is emerald colored and his left eye has the appearance of being blinded, though he can still see out of it. There are three nicks in his ear from a claw swipe about midway up his ear. On the right side of his muzzle there is a very jagged scar running down its length and ending in an upwards curve on his right cheek. On his left eyelid there is a scar running up the middle.
What inspired you to create them?
What inspired me to create Jameson was the fact that as a person who is in law enforcement and holds a degree in criminal justice….stuff in the movie bothered me...like a lot. Judy did so many things as an officer not suitable of an officer, things that would get her fired and arrested herself. For instance, making a suspect confess with the threat of murdering them!
Look I get this is a kids movie and it's done for entertainment purposes, but as a real deputy. It bothers the ever living crap out of me. So I always wanted to do two things, do a story set in the plot of the movie, and have Judy act and behave like a real officer.
So I thought to myself, how would I go about this? Have Nick be a cop or something and he corrects it? Nah to cliche, to expected, causes a larger plot divergence. Judy corrects it herself? Nah, too boring. Then I thought, well what if it was another mammal that nudged it along? I thought about it, I liked it, I went with it. Naturally my mind took over and Jameson Wilde was born. His appearance I didn't pull out of thin air either, I found a picture of a gorgeous red fox with white fur on the top of his head, running up the front side of his ears and down the back of his neck.
What are they like?
Jameson Wilde is a unique individual. He is an honest and straightforward individual never sugarcoating things, if you're dying, he'll straight up tell you. "Am I dying mister, is this how it ends?"
"Yep." That's how he is.
He's intelligent and ruthless, many mammals call him a Sherlock Holmes incarnate as he has an incredible knack to deciphering patterns...including mammal's patterns. He's always thinking three moves ahead with everything.
He's also a real stubborn bastard, if he gets an idea in his head, good luck swaying him from it. He's always reluctant to admit he's wrong or that he needs help. He prefers to be a do it himself mammal, and it's come back and bit him before.
He's also a kind soul, quick to help a mammal out of a tight spot. He's steadfast and dedicated to his work and incredibly thorough leaving no stone unturned. He's a dedicated family mammal and incredibly protective over what's his. But, there's also sadness, tremendous loss and terrible past mistakes plague him, making him wear masks just as much as his younger brother does.
What's their family life like?
Jameson's family life is a tragic one. At 16 he ran away from home leaving behind his little brother Nick and his mother, so tired of being a burden and believing him leaving would help.
There was a reprieve in his life when at the age of 22 he meets a bunny doe and falls hopelessly in love. She has a daughter which he adopts as his own, they get married, and they spend 8 years together in bliss. But it's all taken away from him when they are murdered.
With nothing left but promises James returns to Zootopia to reconnect with his mother and brother. His mom lets him in with open arms….Nick not so much. Their relationship is testy and on shaky ground, but it's a work in progress. Jameson is hopeful things can turn around and he can go back to being a true brother to him.
Do they have a love interest?
After losing his wife James is convinced he'll never find or be with anyone else. Of course, his late wife isn't going to allow it, and neither is the Gods by chance.
When Jameson returns to Zootopia does he have any trouble re-adapting to city life?
No he had time to acclimate, he spent two years in Zootopia's sister city on the east coast Zootropolis in the FBI, Counterterrorism and SWAT. He was offered to be captain of FETRU in Zootopia, well more like voluntold, but he would have taken the position anyways. Wow I left out literally all of his career stuff. Oof. Before Zootropolis he did 8 years CIA, Counter Intel, Analyst, and Strategist. Joined the FBI in Zootropolis after his family's death. Started in Counterterrorism, got into SWAT before his first year was up. Oh and he's also crippled in his left leg. Happened while he was still in the CIA. Car accident.
How do you see mammals his size managing to get around in a city like zootopia?
Well when you grow up in a place where pretty much everyone is larger than you I imagine you'd adapt quickly. It's all about knowing pathways, creating your own mental maps for any situation. For instance getting behind a herd group or a porcupine, as a bubble usually forms to let them pass through. Taking side streets and alleyways, places with minimal foot traffic. Weaving in between the legs of idle larger mammals to make distance, and if skilled enough mobile mammals as well. Sticking to the outside edges as larger mammals tend to take up the middle lanes so to speak. Making sure they're aware of their surroundings so they can move and react.
Do you have any stories written about them or that they're included in?
Jameson Wilde is a main character along with the dynamic WildeHopps duo in the story A True Brother.
For the purpose of the OC interview the setting is the creator's OC is about to be interviewed by my co-owned OC Vicky Chola. A north american grey fox vixen in her mid 20s. They're both in a studio booth with headphones on and microphones to speak into. The interview we did earlier about the creator and their OC is considered a pre conversation between these two before going on the air. Vicky will ask questions based on the answers provided by the creator. Enjoy!
"Welcome everyone to another edition of the Characters of Zootopia show! I'm your host Vicky Chola and joining me today is Jameson Wilde. Thank you for joining me Jameson."
Jameson smiles "thanks for having me Vicky, and please friends call me James. Now I must warn you my job requires me to be on call 24/7, so if I get a call I unfortunately will have to call this interview short. But they should call only as a last resort so hopefully we should be fine."
"We'll be sure to get to know you as much as we can then. So why don't we start with where you're from?"
"Well I was born right here in Zootopia. Lived in a little house, in one of the more...safer areas of Happytown. Spent a good chunk of my life here, though I only recently moved back to this fine city after many years away."
"Why did you leave?"
"Regret, shame, and severely bad life choices. You see when I was about six, my father died, and he'd been the breadwinner. That left my mother with two mouths to feed, mine and my little brothers. We were dirt poor, barely managing, and my medical bills were piling up. No health condition mind you, unless you count getting beaten half to death...twice. My mom was struggling so so hard...So that's when I made poor choice number one, I ran away from home at 16, no note, no goodbye. Poor choice number two, I tried some painkillers to dull the pain I felt, and pretty soon I relied on them. Poor choice number three, I never called or visited afterwards. So 18 I had left Zootopia to drift...and I drifted until opportunity struck. That kept me in one place. Still wasn't here though."
"Tell us about this opportunity and where were you when it struck?"
"I was on the outskirts of zootopia just outside the city, a small little town built in the cities shadow, maybe ten or so miles away. Zooburg was the name, it was a suburbs town, had just enough to make it so you didn't have to go into the city but not enough that you didn't want to. Focused on housing, suburbs, so you could live out of the hustle and bustle of the city but not miss out on all the fun. Zooburg had a bowling alley, and when that bowling alley closed for the night it turned into an...illegal fight club. That's how I was earning the money for my next fix of painkillers, fighting. Well one night I after I won a bout of 5 wolves versus me I was approached by a CIA spook. Apparently he lived in Zooburg and he'd been watching me for sometime and was impressed. Said I was a prodigy of all things and he wanted to recruit me. At first, he wanted to recruit me for my combat skills, but he quickly learned my mind was much more valuable."
"How long ago was that?"
"Oh about 12 years ago. Once he learned my mind was more valuable I went through training and became a field analyst and strategist."
"So did you have to go through a type of bootcamp?"
"Yes though it was done real hush hush on the nature of my hiring. Didn't exactly look good for me to be found in an illegal fight club and being a pill junkie and such. It didn't make me look like typical CIA material. Still the CIA was more than happy to have me with my aptitude so they overlooked my...problem. You see I have a knack for deciphering patterns, any patterns, including the patterns of mammals. Whether you believe it or not we all fall into some sort of pattern, and I with enough observation can find it. I also have a knack for deduction, finding the small things, and planning seven steps ahead. chuckles my brother among others call me the modern Sherlock Holmes. Personally I think they're exaggerating. Anyways, I remained a field analyst and a junkie for three years before I got a real good reason to change titles and kick the habit."
"What was the good reason?"
smiles wistfully "I fell completely and hopelessly in love."
"With who?"
"With a bunny. A beautiful beautiful bunny doe. Brown fur with the most expressive blue eyes mammalkind had ever seen. Her name was Sarah. I met her through work, and by through work I mean I saved her life and the life of her unborn daughter. She had been taken by a sex trafficking ring, the male the knocked her up being a part of said ring. I may have left my post as analyst and killed him and foiled my own plan just to rescue her. But, Vicky when I saw her I felt something in me that I had never felt before, or have since. I rushed in and got her to a safe place, and once there I looked over every inch of her for injuries just waiting for her to panic that I was a fox, say some speciescist line, shove me off. She did none of that, she instead of all of the other things she could have asked, she asked me if I was okay. She wasn't afraid of me, and her voice was like an angels. I swear I've never believed in love at first sight, but I sure believe it now because I fell for her instantly. Best part of it, she fell in love right back."
"That's quite an incredible story. How is she recovering? I know mammals that go through these type of experiences often don't recover."
"Well...it was a long time ago. 11 years. She got through it with my help, and our daughter. Now mind you when I say our daughter I mean it, she was mine. I don't really care I wasn't the father biologically. I was there for her birth and I claimed her as my own that day. My little swing fiend Rachel, was a spitting image of her mother, thank the gods for that. Between me and the birth of our daughter she managed to get over that trauma, though she'd have the occasional nightmare. But it helps when the mammal you wake up wrapped around is the one that saved you from the monsters. We went bunny speed with things, which I really didn't mind. I was finally happy. Got married at the year mark exactly, were already mates at six months. Her parents didn't approve, disowned her, we were expecting it...but it still stung. But she told me as long as she had me and Rachel that was all she needed, and she was right. It was the same for me, all I needed was them and everything would be okay. I kicked the habit, I got out of the field, went to the office where it was safe, kept a security detail with them always, we built a home together. We spent eight perfect years in utter bliss without a care in the world...then in one swell swoop it was all taken away from me. You'll notice I've only spoke of them in past tense...that's because I lost my Starlights...They were murdered three years ago, arson attack."
"I'm so sorry for your loss. Did they ever find out who did it?"
"I found them. Well rather they found me. I had been called into work that day, and when I came back I found the home I built on fire. They ambushed me as I rushed towards the flames. It was members that got away the day I saved Sarah. I killed them but they critically injured me and I passed out from blood loss before I could make it to the house. Woke up in the hospital a week later, couldn't remember what happened, doctors wouldn't tell me either. Once I connected dots everything came back at once, and I ended up mauling a fellow agent. He had it coming though.
"So what now?"
"Well after I got out of the hospital I was...suicidal. My wife and kit were dead, what point did I have living by myself if they weren't here? As you know, dying of a broken heart is something very real for foxes. I was on the brink of death when I had a very lucid dream that reminded me of promises I made to my wife and child. Promises specifically surrounding what I would do if they died. It pulled me off the edge and I recovered, then I tendered my resignation to the CIA and left Bunnyburrow. Couldn't bring myself to come home to Zootopia yet, so I ended up in Zootropolis, Zootopia's sister city on the east coast."
"And what did you do there?"
"Well, all I knew how to do was be an agent of some sort. Being in the CIA was the only job I've ever had, so I figured I could still be a federal agent if I wanted to. I'd worked joint operations with the Federal Bureau of Investigations several times, specifically with SWAT and the specialized Fast-action Elite Tactical Response Unit divisions. F.E.T.R.U for short. So I decided to join the FBI, given my credentials, past job, and such I was let in with open arms. I started out in Counterterrorism, as I'd been certified in it since about my fourth year in the CIA. But after the first year I managed to get into SWAT as a member, it was a very very rocky start and I had a few hurdles to jump through, but I managed it."
"What type of hurdles?"
"Well first, second and third one, my left leg. You see when I was in the CIA I was in a real bad car accident, crippled my left leg. I walk either using a cane or a very specialized mechanical brace. Well using this brace I was able to go through their SWAT course with the best time and top accuracy, all and all a perfect candidate. Except they didn't know I wasn't on the initial roster for tryouts or know about my leg. I was able to effectively demonstrate my capabilities time and time again passing every test they could throw at me. The brace never failed so they conceded and let me on the team. With some restrictions and extra policies and such. Hurdle four, the team I got put with? Not so big on foxes. This led to problems with team cohesion, and as a result I took two unnecessary rounds to the chest and almost died. THAT got them to wake up, didn't matter I was a fox, I was on their team and they let me down. Didn't help the leader was an incompetent, insufferable, speciesist ass hat. Safe to say with my over qualifications they gave me his job in the end. Stuck with that for two years before I received a sign it was time to come home to Zootopia, stop draggin my hind paws."
"It was nothing extravagant. One of the captains of ZBI's FETRU was retiring, medically unfortunately. Zootopia's FETRU is the elite of the elite, and I knew that captain quite well. Well ZBI's director asked for his opinion on who should replace the captain and he only gave one name, mine. I hadn't expected that just like I didn't expect a call from the director himself offering me the job. I mean I can think of 6 mammals off paw that in my opinion deserved the position more than I did. More time, more work, more experience, but instead the chose ME. I took that as a sign that it was time to return to Zootopia and rekindle the relationship with my mother and little brother.
awkward chuckle "Well it took me a year to gather up the courage to even call my mother. I knew her schedule enough to know she wouldn't answer and let it go to voice-mail. So I told her my entire nitty-gritty history from the moment I slipped out my bedroom window 16 years ago. She heard it all...and I was so, so certain I would be shunned and turned away for what I became. But...instead I was welcomed back with open arms, she was just simply too relieved to have her eldest son back in her life again, knowing I was alive. Of course I hadn't told her about my scared face so that was a bit of a shock for her. But she took it in stride. Now my little brother? Yeah, that reunion didn't go very well at all."
"I'm guessing there was a great deal of resentment there."
"That might be putting it mildly. He was furious to see me and he had every right. But under it I could see his surprise and worry, the last time he saw me my left eye still had color and my muzzle wasn't as scarred as you see now. I also didn't need a cane to walk. He mistook my need for a cane as me being a rich pompous ass so he snatched it away just to watch me immediately crumble. That got him to calm down...marginally, but then I opened my mouth, said the wrong thing. He blew up, I blew up. Then I kinda...forced him to help Judy Hopps from the ZPD solve the Missing Mammals case. This by the way is the first public mention of his involvement since it's been solved, sorry bro not sorry. Anyways I took the wrong road, and that put a damper on things. Which all came to a head when he snapped at Judy but really being mad about me, I snapped in turn and during the near blow confrontation he saw my wedding band around my neck, it slipped out of my shirt. He knows what that means, and then I dropped the bombshell he had a niece he never met and will never meet because she died too. That got him to listen to my story and afterwards he agreed we'd try and mend the relationship. It's still on shaky grounds, and it'll be awhile before he learns not to hate me. But, I think we'll get there."
"So what now? You've reunited with family and look to have a steady job. Where do you go from here?"
"To be honest? I have no idea. I know my late wife wanted me to find love again, to not live my life alone. But...I don't know if I can. We foxes mate for life, and most tods when their mates die either choose to die or never recover. She wanted me to be that small minuscule percentage that lets another mammal into their heart. I mean...I'm going to try, for her. But whether or not I succeed remains to be seen. I guess another thing I will do is adopt. My little swing fiend made me promise I'd let some other kits into my heart, and I plan to. But I know before anything else, I gotta fix myself up some more. Past all that, I'll keep up with my job, maybe transfer to a desk life...in a few more years. chuckles
"Well we certainly hope your future continues to be bright. Thank you so much for joining us today."
"Fingers crossed Vicky. Fingers crossed. It's been a pleasure and I look forward to the angry phone call from my brother for thrusting him in the spotlight when this airs."
"And thank you viewers for tuning in once again for Characters of Zootopia."
