"Elizabeth." Callie deadpanned. She was a little no a lot shocked to see her.
"I know this isn't easy for you Bethy, but it's what's best" Callie tried to console a heartbroken girl.
"Then why are you doing this to us?" Elizabeth begged.
"Because my mom will kill me or disown me if she finds out." Callie tried to hug her.
"Please like you ever cared what she thought. Lucia is a bitch and you know it." She all but screamed.
"Plus you're going off to Sanford in the fall, I hate long distance and so do you. Please can't we just be friends." Callie regretted the cliche as soon as it left her lips. Wincing at the anger that flashed across the other brown haired woman's face.
"No Callie. I will have you!" And then she stormed off. Callie brushed off the last statement and tried to move on from her. Callie thought that was the end. She never thought she would follow or try to follow through with that threat, that it was just heartbroken threats. That she would move on to Sanford and She would meet someone new and that would be that. Right?
…..
"Calliope Torres, as I live and breathe." The now older soft brown haired woman greeted.
"Elizabeth, It's you who's been threatening me?" Callie asked, still in shock.
"Threatening sounds harsh Callie, more like missing you."
"No, those were very clear. Elizabeth, what do you want? Haven't you met someone and moved on?" Callie asked, getting frustrated.
"Where is my Bethy?" The woman who was a few inches shorter than Callie on the bench asked.
"We're not in high school, Beth. Now haven't you?" Callie repeated.
"I tired. But know one was as good as you and my heart was never as full as when I was with you, you made me laugh, cry and angry. Know one has ever made me come alive like that Callie. No one." The girl scooted closer to Callie.
Arizona was a nervous wreck in the car. Sitting on the edge of her seat patiently waiting. Her blood boiled when she saw this mysterious woman getting closer to Callie, she hated even more seeing Callie relax a little.
"Callie don't you remember that first fall night on my roof?" Elizabeth coaxed.
"Look at all the stars baby" The older woman pointed out the big dipper to Callie.
"It's so beautiful. I hope one day we live in a small town where the stars shine bright everyday baby" Callie said, intertwining their fingers.
"We will babe, after i graduate college we will move to a small town where i'll become a high price lawyer and you'll be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.'' Elizabeth stated.
"I don't know about that last part." Callie chuckled.
Elizabeth rolled over and started to kiss Callie, with small breaks to talk about their future. They did that most of the night till Callie lost her virginity to her on the roof. Callie had always thought that was the perfect night and nothing could ever tarnish that.
"Yes, but that was 11 years ago Beth, we were just teenagers."
"That doesn't make the night any less special Callie."
"Don't you want that back?"
"I have a girlfriend Beth." Callie stated unconvincingly. She did have a girlfriend. But a very small piece of her missed that night, but she had Arizona now.
"That doesn't answer my question. Callie." Beth raised her hand to touch Callie's face who backed away at first." Beth probed.
"I have to go." Callie stood up.
"Is that her, in the car? You girlfriend?"
"Yes. That's her. Arizona." Callie started hanging her head down in confusion.
"She's pretty, do you love her?" That really threw Callie off. She had strong feelings for Arizona. But did she love her? Was she the one for her? She hadn't felt this was since Beth. She doesn't think she loved Devon. It was just what her mom wanted. Until the drinking and laziness kicked in anyway,
"I have to go." Callie repeated.
Callie walked back to the car without letting her say another word. She had a lot of thinking to do. The drive to the diner was quiet. Arizona could tell Callie did not want to talk. Arizona felt nervous. She could sense something wasn't quite right with how that went. But she had no idea how catastrophic this could be for them. That was Callie's first love. The only woman Callie had ever loved. At least until now? When they arrived back at the diner Arizona broke the silence of what felt like hours.
"Who was that?" Arizona asked as she unbuckled and turned to face Callie.
"Elizabeth, my first girlfriend."
"Oh." Arizona got out and into her car not saying another word. Callie just faced the windshield. Not knowing where to begin and where to end.
Callie drove home in utter silence. No radio, no singing, not anything. Just the deafening sounds of her thoughts racing and bouncing off the walls of her head. She thought about all the times she cried because of how much she missed beth. She thought about all her days at the park with Arizona. She thought about the night on the roof. And she thought about the night at the bar. She thought about how sad she was when they broke up. But she then thought about how happy Arizona made her. Like when she made waffles and they talked and kissed. She thought about how she was young and inexperienced with Beth. But now she is an adult and has a child.
When her mom got home River could tell she still was in a funky mood she just couldn't tell why, she did her best to be good and just get ready for bed. At bedtime she would ask her mom if she was okay. That was their usual time they had important conversations anyway. It was just the two of them and they were snuggled up and it was perfect.
"Momma." The little one spoke softly.
"Yes mihja?" Callie replied even softer.
"What's wrong, you seem sad." the young girl responded.
"An old friend came back into my life. It's okay though mommy's fine baby lets go to bed."
River could tell that her mommy was not fine but didn't want to push the issue, she just snuggled a little closer that night. While Callie had another restless night. She was still thinking about the two girls. By three am she had made one conclusion. That yes after what was only a few weeks. She did love Arizona. She thinks it was love at first sight. But Did that make her any less juvenile then when she was with Beth? Was the love she had with Beth any less real. She had a lot of good times with the older woman. They laughed, they cried, they fought. It was real, she thought. But she didn't know. River loved Arizona too. She could not base her decision on just her wants and needs she had to take her baby into consideration. And River didn't know Beth. But she knew laughing in the park and her teacher. And Oh god how awkward it would be if they broke up she would have to change rivers class. But she knew she needed to follow her heart. And she knew what her heart wanted. What her heart needed. So she sent very direct texts and went to bed.

Yes. of course.
Arizona was crushed that text sounded like the end. Like that was her saying we would break up tomorrow. It had to be she thought. Arizona tossed and turned all night. Thinking about how much she had come to love those girls. And how much she wanted them in her life.
