Pebbles now banging his feline head against the tree barked, bullying his brain into coming up with an idea and fast. Rocking the small communications device in his paw back and forth until noticing a small text on the front.
'Microphone active'
Pebble's looking perplexed as he noticed the detail, his mind ticking like a clock before a light bulb popping over his head.
"Good game dudes, weally good game" Zuma commented, whipping the sweat from his muzzle as he rolled the football over to pups, he considered his opponents just a few moments ago.
Chase stopping the ball singly with his paw with a bit of a smirk. "That was no fair Zuma, We were one player short from getting that last goal"
"Speaking of our other player, Where's Rocky, He said he was gonna play before he got back to work on the rocket" Rubble said.
"Oh, I saw Rocky and Laika talking" Marshall stated, pointing over beyond the lookout where Laika had stationed herself for the time being.
"Showt game then, Let's go inside have a bite to eat" Zuma stated seeing Chase bounce the ball right back over to him as they all made, they're way to the Lookout. Some more excited than others to grab a bite to eat.
Marshall stopping dead in his tracks as he felt a paw touch him on his back, looking behind him to see Skye looking rather dashing than ever.
Her eyes popped more than with aid of makeup than balanced around her face. Her furry ears neatly combed out and there was a sparkle in her eyes that Marshall didn't even know how it was possible.
"Quick Question Marshall, how do I look?" Skye asked, a bit angsty to the Dalmation for his response to her appearance. Marshall however was stunned, He had feelings for Everest through thick and thin. But he had to admit, something can make him question it.
"Y-You look beautiful. I mean wow, just…wow. What's the occasion?" Marshall questioned to the cockapoo.
"Well, I'm going to confess to Chase right now and I want to look better than my best impress him" Skye replied.
"Well, it's about time, I'm sure he'll be left speechless when he even looks at you." The Dalmation affirmed to Skye, giving the extra boost of confidence that wasn't really needed, but something that was wanted.
Skye hugging the Dalmation swiftly before taking off to the Lookout, Marshall hanging back smiling with hope as he decided he might as well making his way to the Lookout as well. Surely there was a big bowl of chow with his name on it waiting for him.
"Marshall, I'm going to need to ask you a favour" Marshall heard suddenly, twisting and turning his head around to try and locate who said that. "Ummm, Hello?" Marshall called out for some answer from some obvious person, but still seeing nothing.
"Stop spinning in circle looking like an idiot' and just listen for a second."
"God is that you?"
"No you dunce, Just forget who I am for a second" Pebble said back.
"Wait a second no way, you're my subconscious aren't you?"
"Yeah, sure whatever, Im your umm…Inner most thoughts" Pebbles well fully said. "Awesome" Marshall responded from a far looking like a crazy person talking to nobody Infront of him. "Anyways, As your subconscious I want you to-"
"Quick what number am I thinking of"
"What?"
"If you're my subconscious, then you must know my every move. It should be easy; I only know numbers below one hundred."
"Well uhhh…You're thinking of a number between one and one hundred then" Pebbles replied.
"Woah, you're right. Alright then, what do you need brain me" Marshall asked looking up to his brain as if it really were talking to him out loud.
'Gosh this dog isn't very bright' Pebbles thought, slamming head against the tree back.
"I want you to talk to Laika."
"But isn't Rocky already talking to her right now, I can talk to them while they're done."
"Nope, Time is the essence"
"The world is going to end if I don't talk to her?!"
"Well, that's not what I meant but sure, let's roll with that" Pebbles shrugged, well the feline couldn't complain that sometimes his work was being done for him.
"I'll be the hero this world needed, and deserved, but never asked for" Marshall proudly walking over to a d around the lookout where he knew Laika and Rocky were still talking.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Marshall being pushed gently out of the way by fast blonde blur running right past him. The Dalmation falling on his back as he looked over and saw it was Skye, running at full speed down the hill on the direction of Adventure Bay.
"Skye wait!" Marshall looked over to see Chase had shouted running after her but stopping to help Marshall back on his paws.
"Woah, what happened to Skye?" Marshall asked to the German shepherd as he was brought back onto his own paws. "Skye told me that she loved me and I-I just, didn't feel the same way, then she ran off" Chase stuttered at the end with a shrug.
"Should I go after her?" Marshall asked. "No, I think she just needs time to herself for now" Chase sighed turning himself around back to the lookout with a guilty mood clouding over him.
Marshall looked back where Skye ran off, knowing that he felt he had a duty to make her feel happy again. "Hey subconscious?" Marshall spoke back to his supposed brain voice.
"Yeah?" Pebbles responded.
"Should I go after Skye, she seems really upset"
"She'll be fine, you know how girls are about being rejected" Pebbles commented, average words for a cat that doesn't have a ring on his paw.
"Y-Yeah, maybe she'll calm herself down and be alright" Marshall stated.
"Hmm, your accent is a bit hard though, but keep trying" Laika encouraged. Rocky laid on his back inserting parts into the soon to be done rocket.
"Since when did you start learning Russian by the way?" She asked, her back against the grass but at the same time simultaneously keeping an eye on Rocky who was busy at work building the rocket but not no preoccupied to answer Laika's questions.
"I uhm you know…. Few days ago" Rocky replied waving his wrench around as if to pin point an exact date. "You know what's funny to me?"
"Yeah?"
"There was nothing I would have wanted to more when I was in that spaceship to be back on earth, rolling in this grass and breathing in non-circulated oxygen from a tree and not from a large tank. But now, I can't believe I want to go back" Laika stated, looking over a Rocky with a bit of deep look.
Rocky looked over a bit perplexed, not knowing exactly what she was saying and what she meant by it. "What do you mean, do you…not want to go back?"
"Well I do, but It's just hard to know what I want sometimes. I want to see my country again but you all have just been so kind to me, and Im kinda worried"
"Worried about what?"
"That I'll never get to see all of you again" Laika confessed as Rocky heart gave a shimmering sting, couldn't believe that the dog as far as he knew had the coldest hard on the planet, was now expressing how much she was would miss them all.
"Y-You really mean that?"
"Yeah, but all of you wouldn't miss me as much though. Some of you would be glad to not see my hideous scars" Suddenly her expression turning moodier, shifting her muzzle away from the direction of the other mixed breed working on the rocket.
"What do you mean Hideous, I think they're cool, kind of scary but still cool" Rocky complimented which rewarded him with a little bit of chuckle from the space dog. "Do you know how I got these scars?" Laika subtly asked, lifting her head above from the grass a bit to face Rocky.
Rocky's face lighting up, ready for a story as he got up from forging the rocket momentarily to Laika. "You bet" He replied.
"You tell anyone, and I will rip your tongue out and throw you off a cliff"
Rocky responded with his smile unfaded, but motioning his paw dragging it across his lips in a zipping motion. An indication of his vow of secrecy. "What's up guys?" Marshall suddenly came running up the hill, both Rocky and Laika scrambling away from each other by any viewer it would seem they were getting a little too intimate for newcomers.
Something Laika minded by Rocky, not at all. Marshall coming atop the hill, resting himself right beside Laika all sudden, Rocky looking over to see the gesture. Not thinking too much on it but getting on his nerves just a little bit.
"So Laika, how was space?"
"Ummm, What are you talking about?" Laika was taken back by the sudden question by the canine who just seemingly arrived out of nowhere. "I just want to get to know you better, that's what my subconscious told me to do anyways" Marshall said, Rocky looking over at Marshall with a questionable look.
Both of Rocky and Laika locking eyes, not really knowing how to respond to that. "O-Oh wait never mind, My subconscious just told me to sit and listen to you two talk, Carry on with what you guys were doing" Marshall added, Rocky grabbing the Dalmation by his collar and bring him as aside for a small talk.
"Bro, What the heck" Rocky firmly stated with his paws fixed in front of him at Marshall.
"What do you mean?"
"You're third wheeling right now, Laika was totally gonna talk about something personal but then you came along acting all weird, making up stuff about your 'subconscious'" He said. "B-But its real, I can literally hear my subconscious talk." Marshall replied in defense of what he thought was the truth. "Oh yeah, well what is your subconscious saying right now then?"
Marshall stayed silent, closing his eyes seemingly trying to listen in to what he was hearing on his end. Rocky looking at his friend seemingly good consistently quiet before finally speaking up. "Well now he's just tell me to shut my mouth and listen in more"
"Listen in for what Marshall, She's from 1957, She crash landed here into the side of a mountain, I'm trying to make her rocket so she can get back to her time. You already know it all, everything from start to-"Rocky went on a tirade before suddenly Marshall pressed his paw against Rocky's lips, forcing him to be quiet as he listened to his 'subconscious', getting another sudden message.
"Okay my subconscious is cheering right now…O-Okay he's saying I can go now, Bye Rocky" Marshall said before walking off innocently down the hill, leaving a confused Rocky staring blankly at him as he seemingly just left after such an encounter.
Rocky sighing, turning back around to face Laika over what he had just experience with his own friend. "What was all that about?" Laika asked, not getting an immediate response from the male mixed breed, seeing him walk over to the unfinished rocket to pick up his dropped tools. "Crazy…. I have to deal with Crazy sometimes" Rocky stated in exhaustion, getting a laugh from Laika as well.
Meanwhile at the bottom of the hill, Marshall left to his own as he walked back to the Lookout. "Alright, I've got all the audio I needed" Pebbles said, saying it with such satisfaction in his tone as by the sound it he seemingly laid back in whatever he was sitting on.
"Audio, Audio for what?"
"You know, Subconscious stuff, You wouldn't get it" Pebbles replied, not even caring anymore to fool the Dalmation more. "By the way Subconscious, do you think Skye is going to be okay?"
"Don't worry about her, you like her or something?"
"Nah c'mon, you're my subconscious, you already know I love Everest."
"I have no idea who that…A-Actually I do, because I'm your subconscious and I know everything about you" Pebbles caught himself, letting himself hunch over in the tree he was laying in. Knowing if he had to keep this up, he was going to have to play along a bit further, even if didn't mean anything to the mission whatsoever.
"Fine, Lets go and check up on here" Pebbles sighed relaying to Marshall under the cover of 'friendly advice'. Pebbles looking in between the small leaves that hung from the tree to see Marshall in real time running down the hill into Adventure Bay to try and sniff out Skye.
"Might as well see it with my own eyes" The Feline whispered to himself, jumping out the of the tree and running down the hill just like the Dalmation but separately as per not to be noticed.
Pebbles making it down into the Town, following close to Marshall by hopping onto the roofs of local buildings to get a high ground view over where he was going and how to avoid contact. "Skye, Skye where are you?" Marshall shouted walking up and down the sidewalk trying to get some sort of response from the cockapoo whom he knew was in a state of sorrow. Pebbles eyeing the Fire Canine as he searched endlessly to try and find him.
Pebbles looking over in a nearby alley way to see a small blonde figure, curled up in the corner against the dirty grimy brick wall that looked like it hadn't be cleaned or paid attention to ever since it was erected. "Look in the alleyway" Pebbles spoke into his small device.
Seeing Marshall receive the message and turn himself down into a small alleyway where he saw Skye at the end. "Skye, I found you, I just want to see if you were okay" Marshall tried to comfort her, coming close to her as he stepped forward.
Even though Skye was facing away from her with her head laying against the wall into the corner, she somehow felt her friend get too close for her liking, scooting further away from Marshall as he got close. "Go away Marshall" She muttered.
Marshall backing away, not knowing how to combat such a blunt command from Skye. It didn't take a genius to notice and hear Skye was still crying, but silently as the body jabbed and hiccupped every moment he noticed.
"Well what are you waiting for, talk to her" Pebbles encouraged.
"B-But I don't know what to say" Marshall silently responded. Pebbles looked down from the roof down at the two. Out of all the things he heard Marshall say from past hour, this was by far the most understandable. Not everyone would know what to do in this situation, but Pebbles was not one of them.
Roughing up his voice before giving clear instructions. "Alright fine, repeat after me and say these words exactly how they sound" Pebbles commanded. Marshall nodded to himself as he took in a deep breathe to only exhale after holding it in, getting ready.
"Skye, you're an amazing individual that really brightens me day every time I lock eyes with you. Seeing you like this breaks my heart to see you like this. I can choose to look away but that would make me feel terrible" Marshall spoke softly, not his own words but instead the words of an orange cat watching it all unfold from a roof above.
"Y-You really think that of me?" Skye turned back, sniffing and hiccupping the tears still rolling down her eyes, not as frequent but still with genuine sorrow as if she was just rejected five minutes ago. "With absolute certainty, you are the most caring, most kind, most outgoing and you can bet the most beautiful"
"You think I'm Beautiful?" Skye asked, making the Dalmation stop a bit in his tracks. Of course, by a standard, Marshall spoke no lies. She was beautiful, only problem being that title was reserved for a particular Huskey in his future.
"Brave, I said Brave you dumb mutt!" Pebbles shouted at Marshall, Noticing his screw up as he just stood there in slight shock like a mannequin. "Well I you know…Like to certain degree, You are Y-Yeah" Marshall stuttered before being seeing Skye pounce forward. Marshall shielding himself in sudden response until feeling Skye's paws wrap around the Fire Canine's neck in a hug.
"Thank you Marshall" Skye muttered before burying her head into his chest, Marshall remaining still like before until finally making a move, slowly rubbing his paw against Skye's hair as he himself slowly closed his eyes and what felt like to him, felt like he was stuck. There was this strange urge not to much in his mind, slowly turning into a desire. He didn't want to move and in fact he didn't want the feeling to end.
Pebbles looked down and saw the sweet gestures, whether they knew he was there or not, He knew what he had done and pride definitely something he was going indulge himself on for today. Lifting his paw up to pat himself on the back just a little bit as he breathe for a job well done. "You done good Pebbles, you done good" He recited to himself, jumping over to a nearby roof to excuse himself from the event.
"Surely the CIA wouldn't mind I just messed around with this like Interceptor just a little bit" He said, taking his spot right next to an Air Conditioning unit ledge side of roof to fiddle with the small communications interceptor. Making it his new favourite past time, eavesdropping on some phones calls within the small town.
Pebbles got to his leisure, twisting dials and pushing the necessary buttons to try and spot the nearest conversation to listen on. Who knows, Maybe some drama between two lovers, Maybe an angry wife yelling at her husband, Maybe two kids making a prank call to a local stranger. The possibility were endless.
"So how has Special Agent Pebbles conducted himself recently?"
"Absolutely asinine, He's a Joke to the Agency" Sudden Pebbles listened in to a conversation surprisingly about him, with a familiar voice too. "Any Improvements?"
"He can't even differentiate between the colour green and red, I don't know how he'll ever excel in the field. Those Chemical Compounds don't seem to be doing their job" The Agent said, reporting all the details back someone else.
"Th-That's Impossible, This thing can only pick up things with a radius, I thought he was all the way back in Langley" Pebbles said, looking around up and down the street below before spotting a familiar looking black SUV parked on the side of the road with tinted windows and all.
"Well keep a close eye on Pebbles, Make sure he's within line like every other agent and not like his father before him"
"Senior Special Agent Brisco, What a waste that guy was. He could have been head of the Agency one day, but he just had to throw it all away for some girl" He frustratingly said over the phone. "You're telling me, He was a disgrace to the CIA however his son may show some potential in this case, Make sure he gets all the evidence we need to bag that space dog"
"Roger that" he said, hanging up the phone and cutting the line. Pebbles was in shock, there was no way his father was a disgrace, he was hero. He had a ceremony and a medal to prove it. Screw the mission and screw the evidence, This was something Pebbles wanted to investigate for himself.
