Chapter 25-The Origin of The King
LAST TIME
"Five days, he said we had that long and I know Vlad, that man would never lie." He crosses his arms while he looks at Merlin who smiles.
"No need to look grim captain, I can't disobey one of those rules so I will also be helping out." As she told her captain that she looks at Elizabeth. "Our top priority is to power up fast in four days with the last day being the best to launch our attack. For that to happen, I'm going to give back the power I stole from you, Captain." This seems to surprise all those in earshot with Elizabeth being confused.
"I took a percentage of the captain's power because it was too overwhelming and dangerous," this seemed to shock many of them. "that's why the captain kept his emotions in check so his powers wouldn't run rampant but if he wants to defeat the one once known as the Saint of Camelot, he'll need it. The location isn't far from here, for it's the birthplace of the Second King." As she explained it, Meliodas's eyes widen in shock.
"Istar."
As that word was said, Merlin nodded and Meliodas looks at Elizabeth.
"Elizabeth, I think—" He was silenced by her gaze hardening yet she looks away.
"I know I'm nowhere near your level, any of your levels but…" Her hands turn into fists and look at the Sins.
"I want to come too, I can't just sit around and do nothing." As she told them this, they all smiled in response for it was useless arguing with her.
"Ok, that settles it!" As Meliodas spoke loudly for everyone in earshot he turns to Bartra.
"We'll be preparing to rescue Naruto so you can have your knights focus on rebuilding the Kingdom." The King nods in understanding and turns to the knights.
"With this, all holy knights must begin at once and help rebuild the kingdom for Naruto's eventual return, the Hero of Liones now move!" As he shouted that, the Knights stood and one by one they hurried towards the kingdom yet a number were left behind.
"Hmmm?" What he found standing there was Gilthunder and Guilia who bow.
"Your majesty, I beseech you to allow us to join the Sins in Naruto's rescue!" The two knights had serious expressions on their faces. "We owe Naruto for everything he's done, we can't just do nothing." As he heard that, the King stared at them before turning back toward the Sins and then at Elizabeth.
"I am a King and your duty is to the Kingdom, do not forget that but as a father, I too wish I could also help him. That is why you two will be Elizabeth's guards until Naruto is safely returned!" As he orders that, the two Knights bowed more as they responded.
"Yes, your majesty!"
As this was said, Elizabeth turns to look at the spot Naruto was taken away.
"Naruto, we'll save you…just you wait." As her hands turn to fists, her expression hardens. "I'll grow strong too, strong enough to fight by your side fully."
CURRENT TIME
(All I ever wanted, was to keep you safe.)
(You're in love with Naruto, aren't you?)
(The reason I'm telling you this... Is simply because he needs you...)
Slowly a pair of eyes opened, one orange and the other blue before slowly she sat up on the bed with a somber expression on her face with her eyes looking towards a nearby mirror, staring at herself where she cut her hair short and touches it.
"I wonder what he will think…" As she mutters that, the Princess slowly gets out of bed and walks over to her clothing set out for her, that of a Princess she proceeds to put on before her gaze rests on the mirror again as the thought of Naruto's capture goes through her mind and the fight with Hendrickson, slowly causing her hands to turn into a fist before she makes her way to the door and opens it, surprising her to find Gilthunder and Gulia standing on either side of the door.
"Gil… Gulia." As she muttered their names the two just speak. "Wait, what time is it?!" Clear worry forms on her face, wondering if she was left behind yet they both gave her reassuring looks.
"They didn't want to wake you after all you've been through yesterday so they've been waiting for you to wake up before we all left for the Druid's location, they're gathered in the King's Throne room." After he told her that, the Holy Knight looks away and was bothered by something.
"I'm sorry about Howzer." This causes Gulia to look away while the son of the last Great Holy Knight just shakes his head.
"We are Holy Knights, we must be prepared for something like this happening. As of right now, we are preserving Howzer's body for the funeral so Naruto can attend but how are you Lady Elizabeth, you attended your sister's funeral last night but you…—" Elizabeth showed a smile yet the sight of it caused the two Holy Knights eyes too widen at how hollow it was.
"I'm fine, I can't just nope around. Not when Naruto—" She was stopped by Gulia placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Elizabeth, we have time but you should—" She was cut off by the Princess who brushes her hand aside and shook her head.
"Not when Naruto is in danger, we need to train." With that response she walks down the hallway with the two staring at her worriedly before following after, what the two Holy Knights once again saw was the same expression as yesterday, worried, anxious, depressed. In the end, she arrives at the throne room and was met with slight surprise at seeing a few others there besides the Sin, they were Jericho who stood next to Ban as well as Griamore and Slader who stood next to the King.
"Morning." She turns her head to see Meliodas giving a wave which the Princess gave a smile before looking away, the sight clearly worrying Meliodas while her father stared at his daughter just as Hawk approached Elizabeth.
"Are you ok, Elizabeth?" His question merely got a smile from her despite how hollow it truly was.
"I'm fine, we have more important things to worry about right now." Her words weren't all too reassuring as Ban stares all knowingly at the Princess and that hollow smile she had.
"I know we'll be leaving today but what is it you wanted to see us about, Bartra?" Questioned the leader of the Seven Deadly sins who watched as the King coughs into his fist.
"I have been given an omen, that of the shadow and of the Ten Commandments." At that point, Meliodas, Elizabeth, Ban, King, Diane, Merlin, Gowther, Gilthunder, Guilia, Griamore, Slader, and Jericho's eyes widen in surprise while others shock, staring at the King and his somber expression.
"What…" Mutters Griamore who looked quite shocked at what he heard but not as much as the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins.
"A Shadow of the Ten Commandments?" Muttered Meliodas, his eyes were wide, and appeared very bothered which the King noticed.
"Through ambiguous words and visuals, he makes predictions about what will happen in the future." Spoke the spell caster of the Sins with Gowther speaking up.
"With one-hundred percent accuracy." The other sins remained quiet with Elizabeth just staring at her father.
"Listen. There's still one more omen." This got all of them to focus and the King places a hand on his chin.
"I myself am unsure of it, for how it came to me felt different than the other times yet it pertains to Naruto." In response, Meliodas stepped forward with a serious expression while the others went wide-eyed, especially Elizabeth.
"We're listening. What did you see?" The King nods in response to her words.
"The vision appeared fractured, two parts playing at the same time yet connecting on one point. According to the vision, in a Kingdom to the South, a new King that has taken the throne shall draw his sword to save another that appears to be unresponsive. From what I could decipher, it appears that nine, in general, go to save Naruto, one being King Arthur of Camelot is among the two that play the most important role in his rescue." This part caused the Sin's eyes to widen in clear shock.
"Wait, nine?"
"Does that mean we find Escanor before we head there?"
"But he never specified who the others were but Arthur?"
"And the other?" Meliodas's question got the other sins to stop talking as they turn to look at their captain while Elizabeth remained silent.
"From what I could decipher of the other, it takes place in a land I do not recognize where a lone woman stands in a field of grass, sword in hand she stands before what appears to be a monstrous being towering over her. That woman is later seen joining the eight others in Naruto's rescue." At that point, all the Sin's eyes widen in clear shock as Elizabeth has questions about who this woman was.
"Father, was there anything else you saw in your vision?" His daughter's question merely got a shake of the head which disappoints her
"As of right now, we are in a dilemma. To save Naruto while dealing with the release of the Ten Commandments." Spoke Merlin which caused the Holy Knights' eyes to widen in shock along with Elizabeth and Bartra who turns to her.
"Release, you don't mean they've been released?!" The King questions the spell user who nods.
"I couldn't say anything, it took place after the funeral and I thought it best not to say anything but to the Captain and others." Her words caused the King to frown deeply.
"It appears my ability wasn't fast enough, as of right now it appears the Ten Commandments have been free." Unlike the sins who got serious, Jericho, Griamore, and Gilthunder were utterly shocked while Elizabeth just stood there, frowning at the fact a new enemy has appeared when they have to focus on Naruto.
"The fact that the seal was broken means that Hendrickson was actually still alive somehow…" The moment Merlin said that Elizabeth's eyes widen all the way while the other Holy Knights were now shocked.
"At least we can kick the guy's ass again." Mutters Ban, not looking all too happy about dealing with the guy again. Diane just looks at Bartra questionably.
"What should we do, Hendrickson is still alive and now these Ten Commandments have appeared but we have only four more days left to save Naruto." The King just placed a hand on his chin, looking deep in thought before Elizabeth spoke up.
"We should immediately head to Istar." That got everyone's attention, the Princess took a step forward.
"Our first objective should be to help Sir Meliodas regain his power, after that we should head immediately to save Naruto—" She was cut off by the Sin of Wrath.
"I'm sorry Elizabeth, but you can't come." The moment she heard that her eyes just widen while the other Sins look away awkwardly.
"What…?" The Princess just stares at Meliodas who was looking away.
"As of right now, I think it would be best you stay in the Kingdom where it's safe." His words only caused the Princess's eyes to widen in disbelief.
"Meliodas, why are you suddenly—but you said I could, even if I'm not at your guy's level, I—" She was cut off by a hand being placed on her shoulder and looks back to find Margaret standing there, having entered the room.
"Sister…" The Princess just shakes her head while her sister stared at her.
"Elizabeth, I also think you shouldn't go. During Veronica's funeral, you—" She couldn't finish her words as the Princess looked to her father while her sister stops talking and looks away.
"Father, please allow me to participate in—" The words died in her throat upon seeing the King shake his head, the sight causing disbelief to form on her face.
"As of this moment, it's too dangerous for you to leave the Kingdom Elizabeth, it would be best you stay in the Kingdom." His words hit her hard as she just starts to speak.
"I-I know I'm not as strong as the Seven Deadly Sins, but I can still… I can help, I can…" She couldn't finish, her eyes only widening at the truth right in front of her from the faces everyone was making.
"Elizabeth—" Meliodas was cut off by the Princess whose head was bowed, a pained expression on her face.
"I understand… I would only get in the way of saving Naruto." Was the last thing she said before turning and running out of the room, leaving it in silence which Hawk turns angrily towards Meliodas.
"You big idiot, couldn't you have handled that any—" Hawk stops talking upon seeing the look on Meliodas's face, a look that took many of them by either surprise or sorrow.
"I am a big idiot, she loves him after all so of course not being able to do anything would hurt her." Muttered the Sin while Merlin just stared at Meliodas before looking away.
She sat in silence against her door which was locked and the curtains pulled to make the room darker before knocking was heard.
"Elizabeth, can I come in?" Came the words of Meliodas who stood on the other side of the door.
"You don't have time, you need to reclaim your lost power to save Naruto." Her response got a sigh from the sin who sits against the door.
"I'm sorry, but don't worry, we'll save Naruto. I won't let anything happen to him so you can rest assured that everything will be taken care of." He looks back at the door with a weak smile.
"Will I ever stop being a burden?"
"Elizabeth, your not—"
"I AM! I can't do anything to help him, at most I can heal wounds but other than that I'm completely useless. I can't ever be the person he can rely on, so please go…" Meliodas smiles sadly and leans back into the door.
"Before I go, I want to tell you a story."
"Meliodas, we don't have time—"
"It's a story about a man who later became the greatest king of Camelot. The King of Camelot, that was Naruto Arthurian Pendragon." At that point, Elizabeth's eyes widen as the Demon spoke.
"From what I heard and read about him later on, he started as an orphan due to his parents having died when he was a baby." Elizabeth could say nothing but listen. "The orphanage he grew up in is where he met his future adopted sister, the woman who took Naruto, Jeanne D'Arc." The single image of the armored woman came to mind, Elizabeth herself appeared more shocked yet also understood the problem, the anger that the woman had felt.
"One day, a group of bandits showed up while Naruto was out getting food, they killed the ones in charge and took the children, whether they sold them into slavery or worse, it took him a week to reunite with the only survivor being his sister, it was after this day he was known to have acted cold and unemotional towards others he did not know." Elizabeth's hands move to her mouth in horror.
"At such an age, a child no less he slaughtered all the bandits for vengeance and took his sister away. As the years went by, his story began to spread like wildfire and that includes other continents such as the one he stayed at for a time, his birth mother's homeland, the Hino Country. It's there, he became known to the Goddess Clan and Demon Clan when he helped a certain Goddess, the daughter of the Supreme Deity defeat a five-headed dragon, and in turn, the name he was given while on that continent spreads as well, 'Hokage'."
"Supreme Deity?" Thought the Princess, familiar with the name itself.
"It was later during the war, a certain Kingdom was dragged into it with the sole intention of protecting its people, this battle was devastating as it involved the Ten Commandments, the group hand-picked by the Demon King himself, Galand the Truth was dispatched to deal with Camelot for interfering in the war with the Goddess Clan. You could say, it became the cornerstone to everything after." That last part confused the Princess while staring at Meliodas's face.
"Galand killed many knights during the battle where he led the Demon forces against Camelot, it wasn't going to end well for the people if the Kingdom continued in this battle, their King was pushed against the wall and when all things seemed lost, he appeared… Naruto showed up and despite the injuries he received in the battle with Galand, he repelled the demon and forced a massive retreat. It was with this action, everything had changed and that was his meeting with the King, with her." Elizabeth remained silent, not seeing the sadness form on his face.
"Artoria Pendragon, she was the First King of Camelot and the Greatest Holy Knight Past, Present, and Future. It was at this time, rumors began to spread of the battle that took place, the very fact one of the Ten Commandments was beaten by a human, with Naruto being there, there were talks of alliances that began to spread through other Kingdoms, a united front against the other clans that were stronger than just humans. With this possibility in mind, it could change everything which Naruto and Artoria had come to realize, it was something bigger than both of them which was why they agreed to have what was seen as a political marriage." This surprised Elizabeth who recalls many things she had heard, including Mordred and Alexander.
"You can already guess what happened next, despite both having made it only political, in less than a year they had fallen in love, Artoria brought life back into Naruto's life and from what I had heard and read, he started to smile and laugh. As if he became more than just a killer. It was then, the very next year their daughter, Mordred Pendragon was born." Elizabeth said nothing but the thought of the women the Sins fought, wondering what she felt having to fight her own father.
"It was at this time alliances began to strengthen, even factions of the Demons and Goddess's began to break off and ally themselves with the Alliance, specifically the Vampire Clan and The Celestial Clan. The Demon King and Supreme Goddess tried to sway them over to their sides but the two who led the alliance outright refused and instead decided they would not interfere but protect their own has caused quite the effect, even when the other clans began to join the Goddess Clan against the Demon Clan. In just a few years, the once small alliance became something that could no longer be ignored, it was known as 'The Alliance of Camelot'. It was at this point, the Demon King, my father could no longer stand by and allow this alliance to strengthen any further which was why…" At that point, Meliodas's hands turn to fists as a deep shame forms on his face.
"I along with my brother and several other commandments were tasked with an army to destroy the head of the alliance, we attacked Camelot, and I…committed the greatest sin…" At this point, Elizabeth could only stare at the man who began to shed tears as a look of horror formed on his face.
(Back when I...was a very cruel demon...I killed his best friend he saw as a brother...after that...I)
"I caused the beginning of his downfall the moment I killed Artoria in front of his eyes. Despite her power being able to save her from even the most critical of wounds, it didn't work and she fell from my blade. I can still remember the horror on his face, the tears he shed, and the deafening scream." He starts to curl up, continuing to stare into the distance while Elizabeth just sat there with wide eyes as she recalled Naruto's wrath.
"It was with this, a change took place and it was the moment he picked up her sword, the King's Sword, Excalibur." Meliodas looks towards the sky window, towards the sky.
"I have never seen something so bright in my life till that day. The Elemental spirits that were with him, gave him their power in the form of an elemental crown while he wielded a glowing Excalibur that was being combined with anti-magic, two forces that were complete opposites were in fact uniting, forming what was considered 'Chaos Incarnate'. He took the stance of his mother's homeland before me. What I saw that day, wasn't a Knight or a Human but a King. A King who struck fear into my heart and despite being known as the strongest Demon under the Demon King himself, I was cut down in one swing of the sword. That day, two things were put into motion, one being the death of his wife and my defeat, without even a crowning, he was already known as the Second King of Camelot or the True King of Camelot, overshadowing his own wife's reign as King and bringing forth a new one." Meliodas couldn't see the sadness in her eyes.
"Meanwhile, this single loss changed me, while recovering I had mauled over my defeat so many times before coming to the conclusion that the reason I lost was rather a simple one, I lacked heart. No sooner after, I met 'someone' and by meeting her, I came to realize the full ramifications of what I've done." Elizabeth said nothing, only able to hear the sadness in his tone yet that was when she noticed something, noticed 'someone' standing in the shadows inside her room, the sight of the cloaked figure only left Elizabeth shocked and confused before he raised a hand. It was at this point Meliodas took in a deep breath and let it out before standing up.
"I'm sorry, there's more to tell you about his past but…it doesn't get better, only worse." Meliodas turns to face the closed door and looks down sadly. "You'll know the next part when the time comes, all I can tell you is prepare—" Meliodas stopped talking and turns towards the door once again.
"Wait, why am I—" Meliodas stops talking the moment he saw someone from the corner of his eye, turning he saw Ban having arrived from around the corner.
"Cap'n, where's Elizabeth?" The sudden shout caused the Sun's eyes to widen and immediately he leaps, kicking down the door in a hurry but coming to a halt upon seeing a cloaked man holding princess in his left arm, appearing to be unmoving.
"ELIZABETH!" The Sin leaps right for the figure who merely raises a hand just as Ban arrives at the doorway in a hurry but his eyes only widen upon seeing something in the air, something causing the space to distort as it closed and disappeared but what got his full attention was Meliodas, he appeared to be frozen, trapped in some kinda sphere with a ring around it but it had vanished the moment the distortion disappeared.
"Cap'n, what happened?!" Ban all but shouts as he entered the room yet his attention was drawn towards the Meliodas who fell to his knees just as the others had arrived by teleportation.
"What happened?" Asked the Boar Sin to Meliodas whose hands turn to fists.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that, where were you?" His question got a frown from her.
"The moment I had sensed the arrival of an unknown magic, it appeared my teleportation had been blocked so I sent Ban." She looked at where the distortion was and frowns.
"I don't recognize this kind of magic, it's unfamiliar. But the real question is, what happened?" As she asked that, the Sin stood up while still appearing to be deep in thought.
"Elizabeth was taken again." It was after saying that, the others who had also arrived were shocked which included King, Gowther, Gilthunder, Guila, Jericho, and Griamore.
"Taken? But by whom, why would they—" King was cut off as Gowther touched his head before outstretching his hand and instantly a bright pink arrow shot through Meliodas's head before the others, relaying a scene of the Captain restrained in the sphere yet conscious before the figure.
(Do not fret, son of the Demon King. All you need to know is I am an ally who wishes to help, Elizabeth will return in four days but won't be the same harmless Princess anymore.)
The Sins look at one another while Meliodas just stood there with a look of worry on his face while Merlin was frowning, the events so far have been unpredictable.
"Captain." King muttered as he saw the demons shaking fists.
"Merlin, can you track them?" The question got a shake of the head.
"I have never seen this magic before and it has left no trace to follow. As of this moment, I have not a clue who that was or where Elizabeth was, however…" Merlin places a hand on her chin.
"Could this involve what the King foresaw?" Upon hearing that, Meliodas's eyes widen before he looks out the window.
"Elizabeth…"
WITHIN ELIZABETH'S MINDSCAPE
"Where…where am I…?" As she spoke, Princess Elizabeth just stood there, staring down the endless hallway where she was between two bookshelves. All the books were of different colors and different designs with even the smallest of differences. Slowly she makes her way to one of the books that lined the wall, reaching out before she was stopped by a voice.
"I do not advise that." With a startled shout she turns, being met with a certain bipedal humanoid with a horned skull in place of a face and glowing red in the sockets of his eyes. The clothing he wore now consisted of a cloak with the hood pulled back to reveal its head. Elizabeth takes a step back and watched it raise a hand towards her face, revealing purple skin with claw-like fingers nails yet the princess takes a step back which causes the being to jolt as it stops and pulls its hand back yet the entire time, she could not speak as a looming pressure was on her.
"Ah, if it's isn't—" It places a hand on its chin, stopping what it was about to say, and appeared to be staring at something behind her.
"Princess Elizabeth…you may speak freely." And just like that, the pressure was gone.
"Where am I, who are you?!" Her questions gained a tilt of the head.
"Strange, you are not close to death physically tho, though that must be because of that curse." He points at something behind Elizabeth, causing her to finally turn, and appeared horrified at the sight of heads, heads in a circle devouring each other on an endless loop, the sight itself was revolting.
"Wha—"
"Perpetual Samsara." She turns to look at the being who was turned away, placing a book it held on the shelf where it belonged, the title of said book [The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki.]
"Perpetual…Samsara…?" Her words gained its attention, its gaze merely directed at her before it turns.
"It is a curse of the Demon King where it causes the victim to reincarnate when they die they also forget everything they did in their past lives. What makes it problematic is that if the victim is given enough information regarding their true identity, their original traits, and fragments of their memories will slowly come back but in turn, once it's all been restored, the victim will unavoidably die in three days in some way." When she heard that, her eyes could only widen before she looks down at her feet.
"But it seems, you may have partly figured this out already." It turns to face her while she looks up at its face.
"Can you—" She was stopped when it raised a hand to its mouth in a 'sh' motion.
"I cannot remove the curse, if I say anything about your first life that could jog your memory, you will end up dying in three days. But you should already know, your original life was connected to Naruto and Meliodas from the reactions of those foes and from what you were told." The Princess's eyes widened at how much he knew yet could only look down at her feet again, hands turning to fists before looking at it again.
"Who are you…?"
"Death."
The moment she heard that her eyes widen all the way and could only stare at the embodiment of Death who turns back to the bookshelf.
"Funny, the last human I saw was Naruto a little while ago." Upon those words being said, Elizabeth's expression changed to that of despair and pain, looking at him with many emotions.
"Please, is he ok—" She was silenced as it raised a hand.
"There is no point in telling you that. Whether or not you know, will change nothing at all. Because…" He points right at her. "Your weak…" Its words stung, the Princess opened her mouth yet nothing came out.
"Your only support, only healing, you don't possess any offense. If you were to gain your memories back, perhaps but even then you would only live for three days and your death would bring despair to Naruto and Melioda." As it had spoken, Elizabeth was looking down at the floor, her hands now shaking.
"It would be best, to not get in the way of the Sins. Right now, even the mere thought of trying to save him is foolish, just give—" It stopped the moment she had begun to speak.
"Then I'll remain a fool my entire life." The moment it heard that Death froze while she looks up at it with clear determination.
"He took an oath upon his sister's grave. He would never again fall to despair, instead...he'll move forward no matter what kind of Hell he will endure, and with it," Her gaze strengthened. "He would embrace hope! I know I'm weak, so weak they could kill me with ease but even so, I'll do everything in my power to save him! Because I love him!" As she shouts those words, Death just stares at her and slowly a chuckle left its mouth before laughter, taking her by surprise.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Because, you are nothing like your mother, not even a little." Those words surprised her before she raises a hand, placing a finger on her chest which her body glows along with her eye.
"Resolve. Strength. Will Power. Hope. Never let these forsake you but instead lift you. When you awaken, you find yourself in unfamiliar lands, there you will gain the power you need to save Naruto, and there you will gain the power to fight 'her' but the day will come, and you will make a choice. Will you forsake the past in order to embrace the future or will you embrace the past, but forsake the present." It words confused Elizabeth but it chuckles and lifts its hand.
"When you awaken, it will still be the same day." Was all it said before it snapped its fingers as she was engulfed in a bright light and in that instant her eyes opened as she sat up in a hurry yet froze to find she was in some sort of room she didn't recognize, in a style unfamiliar with her.
"Where—" She heard a slight sound a turns around, being met with the sight of two guys around her age just staring at her while in the process of pouring the other a drink. One guy was a tall, muscular man that had short dark-colored hair slicked back while the other was a man of similar body type having dark-colored, medium-length hair that is messily tied back.
"Yo."
"Morning."
Elizabeth just stares at them in shock before immediately she got out of bed, and standing in front of them.
"W-Where…" Seeing the on-edge and confused look on her face while taking a defensive stance, the messy-haired man smiles as he lifts a cup while the other man smirks and stands up to pull back the wall, revealing a kingdom she hasn't seen before.
"Welcome to the Hino Country, a savior from the foretold legend."
