A REWRITE OF CHAPTER THREE.
Red X slammed his fist on his desk, trying to collect his thoughts. What happened at the docks? Why were they here? Why now? After two years? He looked into the mirror and watched the scar over his right eye. Dishonor. Not a man. Causeless. Traitor.
These words flew through his mind as he let his finger run over the scar, a perfectly straight line, running from the middle of his forehead crossing diagonally over his right eye and ending and ending not for from that. The first mark. A birthright. And because of his actions in the past: an honor dishonored.
Red X took a deep breath and placed his mask on his head. He knew that the events of yesterday were a sign and he hoped, no prayed, that nothing would happen.
But he knew it was going to happen. He only didn't know when.
He walked out of his room and to the Common Room of his team's base. There, his friends were already enjoying breakfast. And, like always, Shadow Walker was shadow-hovering in a corner, meditating with his sword, an empty cup of tea and buttered toast next to him.
"Good Morning, SW." he said to the Shadow Ninja.
Shadow Walker acknowledged the presence of his team leader with a small nod, not even looking away from his katana.
"Always a pleasure speaking to you, Lee." Red X said with a small chuckle. Bad idea, he immediately realized. he saw the quick look that Shadow Walker gave him. A look of concern and questions. Red X knew that there was no fooling this member of his team. As fast as he had given the look, it disappeared.
A smile came under his mask as his girlfriend hovered to him. "Good morning, Alice." He said. The smile faded away as he saw the concerned look on her face. "I'm in trouble, aren't I?"
"What was that yesterday, Nathan?" she asked. "You never be'ave like that."
"Just pissed by the failed mission yesterday." Red X tried.
"We had failed missions before, Nate." Druid said, with a giggling Cybermind on his lap. "And you never seemed that off like you did yesterday."
"Nothing to worry about." Red X said.
"Nathan, we are a team and friends." Druid said. "If you say that it's nothing to worry about, we will stop asking."
"But …" Starblast began.
"We will STOP asking." Druid said sternly, but remaining calm. "If he has to tell us something, he will tell us when he's ready. That's how it went with all of us."
Red X chuckled. "You know, John?" Red X said. "You seem wiser that you look sometimes."
Druid shrugged. "Wisdom of the Ancients, I suppose." He said. "Comes with the outfit."
A sound that could pass for a chuckle came from the place were Shadow Walker was sitting. By the time they all had turned their heads to that direction, he had vanished.
"Same old morning at Street Titans Hideout." Cybermind said.
'Let us hope that it will stay a normal morning.' Red X thought.
"So, to get this straight." Cyborg said. "We prevented a supposed shipment of weapons and more dangerous stuff, defeating the guys on the ship, tying them up in ropes no-one ever escaped from before with ease, only to find out the crates are full with junk, the guys we attacked got loose from the ropes, make smoke and disappear without a trace, only leaving a weird-looking symbol on the ground?"
"Pretty much." Robin said, looking at a photo of the symbol.
Cyborg was silent for a moment. "Well okay." He said. "What's for breakfast?"
Robin grunted "We're almost 10 hours later since the attack and still we don't know nothing about this symbol and what it might be."
"Maybe it's just some new criminal organization that thinks they're cool." Beast boy yawned. "What a night." He smiled at his fiancée, who was enjoying a cup of tea. She winked at him and took a sip.
Robin noticed that Starfire was looking out of the window, staring at Jump city.
"Everything alright, Star?" Robin asked.
Starfire smiled at her husband for a moment, but then watched out the window again. "Everything is all the right, Richard."
Robin gave his wife a puzzled look. "Kory, you only use my real name when you're really worried about something. What's wrong?"
"I don't know…" Starfire said. "I have the feeling that something will happen. Something bad. Really bad."
"Well, we're living in Jump City." Raven said in her usual dry voice. "Something always happens."
"But I think that this time:.." Starfire said. "We might not be able to win."
"Commander on the bridge!" a soldier yelled as the automatic doors opened, revealing the always- helmeted Chaos Commander.
Chaos Commander walked over to a Command chair in the middle of the room, on a elevated platform, giving complete vision over the rest of the room. The Commander sat down and pushed a button on the chair. Screen came online, showing the faces of several Captains.
"All teams report and give status." The Commander ordered in his deep, metallic voice.
"Team Gotham City, stand by." One captain said. "We have several squads guarding the entrance of the Batcave"
"Team Metropolis, stand by." Another Captain said. "Daily Planet in sight."
"Team Smallville, en route."
"Antarctic strike force, stand by. Fortress of Solitude in our sights."
"Spatial Strike Fleet, in position." Another captain said. "The Watchtower defenses haven't picked us up."
Teams from all over the world gave their report.
"Sanctuary, online and ready to attack, sir." Councilor Dex said. "We're in position. The Centre of Jump City."
"We're awaiting your command." A captain in the room said.
"All teams…" Chaos Commander said. "Operation is a go. Begin the attack!"
The whole Tower seemed to shake. Everything in Titan Tower was falling of its place and shaking. The Titan alarm was screaming loudly.
"W-w-w-what the he-e-e-e-eck is happening." Cyborg said as his circuits nearly shook out of their places.
"E-e-eathqua-a-a-a-aake" Beast Boy yelled.
A message appeared on the screen. 'Code Omega Red.'
"Code omega Red?" Robin asked himself. "Can't be…"
"What's 'code omega red'?" Beast Boy asked as the earthquake started to calm down. "I never knew that danger-level was in our systems."
"It isn't." Robin said. "It's a code from the Justice League computer, who is linked with the Batcomputer."
"So the Justice league is asking our help?" Raven asked.
"No." Robin said. "It's a code that is sent to all computers of all heroes and teams all over the world, in case of World Wide Danger."
"Guys…" Cyborg said, as he was watching outside. "I don't think that it was an earthquake."
The team walked to the window and gasped in terror. A massive warship was hovering in the sky, with dozens of smaller ships hovering around them.
"Alien Invasion?" Beast Boy asked.
Robin pressed a button and a zoomed image of the ship was shown. "Star, do you know this type of ship? Who are they?"
"I …I don't know." Starfire said. "I …I've never seen that type of ship before and I know of all known ships and equipment throughout the universe."
"Whatever they are…" Cyborg said. "THEY ARE ATTACKING THE CITY!"
Robin checked his communicator. "The city's authorities already are evacuating the citizens to the underground bunkers."
"Good." Raven said. "So we don't have to hold back."
"It seems that the military is already not holding back." Beast Boy said as he saw missiles being launched at the ship, only to explode a meter from target."
"Force field" Starfire said. "This will be hard."
"But not impossible." Robin said. "TITANS, GO!"
"Sir, scans show that citizens are being transported to underground bunkers." A soldier checking a screen, said.
"Good." Commander said. "We don't want innocent lives to be ended."
"Sir, the military is striking back." Another soldier said. "They don't cause too much, even no damage, but they are slowing down our troops."
"Tell the fighters to land and let strike back." Chaos Commander said. "Ready my ship."
"Sir, you're going down there?" Councilor Zyro asked. "At least let us accompany you."
"Very well." Chaos Commander said. "Signal my personal guard to watch in my personal ship until our arrival." He stood up from his Commander Seat. "Dex, activate the offensive functions of my suit, just in case."
"Yes, Commander." Dex said. He reached into a pocket of his coat and got out a small device and pushed a few buttons and flipped a switch. The suit of Chaos Commander began to buzz and under his helmet you could see a faint blue light glowing. That went on for a few seconds and then everything went silent.
"Aah, much better." Chaos Commander said. "Councilors, with me..."
The entire Chaos Council walked behind Chaos Commander as he went to the Hangar. He placed his finger on a button on the side of his helmet. "This is Chaos Commander to strike force. Prepare a landing zone and prepare for the arrival of precious cargo."
"Yes Sir." The commander heard out his in-built speakers.
"Very good." Chaos Commander said. "Commander out."
"My love, do you really think it is a good idea to join the fight already?" Councilor Vega asked. "What if it isn't here?"
Chaos Commander chuckled and turned his attention to his wife. "It IS here."
"Commander, Ground Troops have isolated a quadrant of the city for Base Control." A voice from a speaker said.
"Fire the Disintegrator on the buildings." The Commander said as he entered the ship. "I want that quadrant leveled by the time I arrive."
