Naruto and his clones had been containing and absorbing the nuclear blast that was Ronnie and Professor Stein going nuclear when finally Naruto absorbed the last of it, all that was left of it was a small crater containing 2 bodies with tattered cloths.
Underlined "Did it work? Did you separate them?" Cisco asked as Barry and Caitlin went in closer
Underlined "It seems like it." Barry answered
"Ronnie?" Caitlin called out as she got closer, and soon she was right at his side "Tell me your name." before Ronnie looked up at her
"Ronnie Raymond." Ronnie answered before he pulled Caitlin in for a kiss "It's me." Before Stein made his presence known
"Uh, pardon me. Obviously, I need a change of clothes." Stein announced before he turned his attention to Naruto "That's quite the ability you have there young man." Causing Naruto to pout
"I'm 40 years old. Not exactly young but I'll take it." Naruto whined
"You look remarkably good for a 40-year-old." Stein complimented
"Thanks, it's probably due to my condition." Naruto said with a smile
"Nice to see you in the flesh again, Professor Stein." Barry said Underlined "We're coming home. All of us." Before he turned to Naruto "Can you give us all a ride back to S.T.A.R. Labs?"
"Sure, why not." Naruto answered as he opened his hand and a blue portal formed/appeared shocking Stein and Ronnie "Alright everyone step on thru."
Caitlin helped Ronnie get to his feet before all 5 of them walked up to the portal and stepped thru.
(S.T.A.R. Labs – Cortex)
Dr. Wells and Cisco watched as a blue portal appeared/formed in the middle of the Cortex before Naruto, Ronnie, Barry, Stein, and Caitlin stepped thru before Naruto closed the portal as Cisco got up from his chair.
"Ronnie Raymond." Cisco said as he walked up to Ronnie
"Cisco." Ronnie responded before Cisco went in for a hug
"Ohh Man. I missed you so much, man." Cisco said before he released Ronnie from the hug "I shouldn't have locked you in there."
"Hey…don't." Ronnie said before Dr. Wells wheeled himself over
"Welcome back, Mr. Raymond." Dr. Wells greeted getting Ronnie's attention
"Dr. Wells. What happened to you?" Ronnie asked
"The particle accelerator exploded." Dr. Wells answered
"I'm so sorry." Ronnie said
"I'm responsible for putting myself in this chair. You are responsible for my still being alive—thank you." Dr. Wells responded before Caitlin walked up
"You said you'd bring him back, and you did." Caitlin said "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Dr. Wells responded
"Excuse me? Are we all planning to sing Kumbaya next?" Stein asked getting everyone's attention
"Professor Stein, I presume." Dr. Wells said
"Harrison Wells. Do you have somewhere I can freshen up and get a change of clothes?" Stein asked
"Of course." Dr. Wells answered before he started to wheel himself away "Right this way, Professor." As almost everyone followed after him, save for Naruto as his phone rang
"Sir, Felicity is calling, do you want me to answer it?" Hagoromo asked
"Go ahead." Naruto answered before Hagoromo answered the call Underlined "What's up Felicity?"
Underlined "Can you come on by I have something to ask? You can teleport in it's just me, Diggle, Roy, and Oliver." Felicity asked
Underlined "Sure, I'll be right over." Naruto answered before he hung up the phone as Sakura, Cisco, Caitlin, and Dr. Wells looked at him
"You guys handle them, Felicity wants to talk to me." Naruto stated before he disappeared in a flash of yellow
(Arrowcave)
Naruto appeared in a flash of yellow before he took in his surroundings and found that he was in the Arrowcave before he turned around to find exactly who Felicity said was there.
"Alright what do you need?" Naruto asked before he crossed his legs and began floating lotus style
"Oliver needs someone to teach him the ways of the sword. Thought you might know a thing or two." Felicity answered causing Naruto to raise an eyebrow
"And why exactly does he need someone to teach him the ways of the sword?" Naruto asked
"Because I didn't beat Ra's al Ghul. I have already found myself a teacher but Felicity doesn't approve of them so she called you in to ask you." Oliver answered before Naruto turned to Felicity
"Any specific reason that you don't like the teacher that Oliver has found?" Naruto asked
"Because he's the man who drugged his half-sister into killing one of our own. And blackmailed Oliver into challenging Ra's al Ghul to a fight to the death to clear the blood debt." Felicity answered causing Naruto to turn to Oliver
"Are you fucking stupid? Why would you ask for help from the person who drugged your half-sister and forced her to kill one of your own? Now to mention they are blackmailing you." Naruto asked
"He's the only person that I know who knows the way of the sword, we also have a common motive, keeping my sister alive and out of harm's way. I don't exactly have you on speed dial to ask you." Oliver answered causing Naruto to sigh
"You do know that you can ask your Quiver Bot to contact me seeing as they are both connected to my personal server?" Naruto asked/told "Lucky for you I am a master of various forms of the sword. Whether or not I will teach you is something else entirely."
"Great." Felicity said with a smile "Will you teach him the ways of the sword, please?"
"Sure. But only because you don't want him 'teaming up' with the man who forced his half-sister to kill one of your own and is blackmailing him. That and you asked nicely." Naruto answered before he turned to Oliver "I will come by every few days over the next few months to pick you up and teach you the ways of the sword." Before he turned to Felicity "I will be taking my leave now." And with that Naruto disappeared in a flash of yellow
(S.T.A.R. Labs – Cortex)
Naruto appeared in the Cortex just as Ronnie who had a fresh change of clothes and Caitlin entered headed for one of the labs to run some tests on Ronnie.
"Did I miss anything?" Naruto asked
"Just us getting them a change of clothes. I was just about to run some tests on Ronnie." Caitlin answered as Ronnie turned his attention to Naruto
"Naruto what was that whole 'portal opening' thing? Also, how did contain the blast and absorb the nuclear blast?" Ronnie asked
"Caitlin can fill you in I'm not going to repeat myself a 3rd time." Naruto answered before Sakura entered the room
"Shall we get back to our Nanite project?" Naruto asked only getting a nod from his wife as they headed for the remaining lab in the Cortex
(A few minutes later)
"Your vitals appear to be normal, except you have a slight fever of 100.6." Caitlin said having just finished her tests on Ronnie
"Cait, I'm fine, I promise." Ronnie reassured
"I know, but we just need to be-." Caitlin started before Ronnie pulled her into a kiss just as Cisco, Dr. Wells, and Professor Stein entered the room
"Yep—just when I forgot how awkward it was to walk in on you two." Cisco commented as Ronnie put his shirt/jacket back on
"Well, you can get used to it again." Caitlin said with a smile
"So I did a full medical workup on the Professor. It turns out that now that he and Ronnie are separated, they no longer possess the ability to harness nuclear energy." Dr. Wells explained as he handed a tablet to Caitlin
"Professor Stein, you seem to be running a little hot as well. Same as Ronnie—100.6." Caitlin stated as she looked at the data on the tablet
"Hardly a sweat, Dr. Snow. And hopefully now the only thing Ronald and I have in common—" Stein said brushing it off
"It's Ronnie." Ronnie corrected
"Mm." was all that Stein replied with
"You gonna miss being able to fly?" Cisco asked with a smile
"Yeah, maybe if I was the one holding the controller." Ronnie answered causing Professor Stein to get closer
"Meaning?" Stein asked causing Ronnie to get up
"Meaning, you weren't the most conscientious body-mate." Ronnie answered
"So you do not consider keeping you alive to be conscientious?" Stein asked
"Alive? We were living under a bridge, eating garbage." Ronnie replied
"I did not determine that it would be my mind that would dominate your existence, but thank God it was. I could feel your fear and panic, emotions that likely would have gotten us killed in that state." Stein stated
"You kept me buried down. You kept me from her." Ronnie said turning to Caitlin
"Which is likely why she's still alive." Stein pointed out "Now I believe you and I have spent quite enough time together."
"Yeah." Was all that Ronnie said before Stein turned around
"I would like to go home to see my wife." Stein requested
"Mr. Allen will take you." Dr. Wells stated
"Thank you." Was all that Stein said as he and Ronnie turned around respectively
"I need some pizza." Ronnie requested
"You got it." Caitlin replied
(An hour later)
Cisco, Barry, and Joe had come to Dr. Wells with some very shocking news. Naruto and Sakura continued their work on their Nanite project in one lab while Dr. Wells, Cisco, Barry, and Joe talked in the other.
"Time travel." Dr. Wells stated getting Naruto's attention
"If the last five months have proven anything, it's that anything can exist, but to actually travel through time?" Barry asked
"Well, the greatest minds in human history put their collective genius towards solving that puzzle." Dr. Wells stated
"So. Is it possible?" Joe asked
"Yes, it's possible. But problematic. Assuming you could create the conditions necessary to take that journey—well, that journey would then be fraught with potential pitfalls. The Novikov principle of self-consistency, for example." Dr. Wells answered causing Joe to put his jacket on the chair
"Wait, the what, now?" Joe asked
"If you travel back in time to change something, then you end up being the causal factor of that event." Barry explained
"Like Terminator." Cisco said simplifying the explanation
"Oh." Joe responded
"Or is time plastic? Is it mutable whereby any changes to the continuum could create an alternate timeline?" Dr. Wells explained
"Back To The Future." Cisco said simplifying it once again for Joe
"Oh—saw that one too." Joe said
"Doc Brown. Tremendous picture." Dr. Wells stated
"Right. So what's the answer?" Joe asked
"I might be a clever guy, Joe, but if you're asking me to give you a working theory on how to travel through time, I'm afraid I just can't do that." Dr. Wells answered
"Time is not something that should be messed with. Any small change in the timeline could cause catastrophic changes, both good and bad. You would have to break thru the space-time barrier to get into the speed force to time travel." Naruto spoke up without stopping what he was doing
"There is someone else you can talk to about this as well." Cisco commented getting Barry's attention "Professor Stein."
(Hours later – S.T.A.R. Labs – Cortex)
Caitlin, Ronnie, and Dr. Wells had brought in Barry covered in some sort of splinters and Caitlin was currently taking them out one by one.
"You need to hurry, Barry's wounds are beginning to heal with the fragments still under his skin." Dr. Wells ushered
"This is just like that time I stepped on a sea urchin." Cisco commented causing Barry to give him an 'are you serious' look "Only much worse."
Just then Naruto felt a shift in a neighboring timeline causing him to close his eyes in frustration letting out a growl, getting Dr. Wells attention.
"What's wrong?" Dr. Wells asked
"Someone in a neighboring universe just either messed with time or messed with their timeline." Naruto answered
"And how do you know this?" Dr. Wells asked curiously
"I have the ability to tap into and sense the natural energy / dimensional energy of this universe and the multiverse. When someone messes with time/time travels I am able to sense the shift in the timeline, whether it be tiny or major. Regardless of whether or not it was a change to our universe or a neighboring universe." Naruto answered as Dr. Wells shook his head
"Very interesting ability." Dr. Wells commented before they turned their attention back to Barry
"Whatever you do just don't pee on me Cisco." Barry growled
"You know that's only a myth, right?" Cisco asked as Caitlin pulled out another fragment causing Barry to groan just as Frost walked in
"I don't like the sound of that." Frost stated before he got a better look at her boyfriend and immediately rushed to his side "Who did this to you?"
"General Eiling." Dr. Wells answered before Frost began to walk away cold vapors dripping from her hands
"Frost stop. You can't reveal yourself otherwise Ronnie, Stein, and Bette won't be the only things that Eiling will be after." Naruto ordered causing Frost to stop and turn around with a defeated look deciding that her presence was better used here where her boyfriend needed her
"I'm so stupid. Jason Rush, the grad student who was helping Professor Stein with his Firestorm research, he said that the army took all of Professor Stein's material when he disappeared." Caitlin said in a defeated tone "I should have known it was General Eiling."
"Not your fault. He still thinks you hold the keys to the ultimate human weapon—both of you." Dr. Wells reassured
"Okay, let's just finish this. I gotta get to Stein's house. Eilings gonna be after him too." Barry said
"That won't be necessary Mr. Allen, Professor Stein is here at S.T.A.R. Labs." Hagoromo spoke up causing Ronnie, Naruto, Sakura, Frost, Caitlin, and Cisco to look up
"I don't think Mr. Raymond and I are as distinctive as we had hoped." Stein announced
(Half an hour later – Speed Lab)
Caitlin had finally gotten all the fragments out of Barry and now had hooked Ronnie and Professor Stein up to a brain wave machine, Dr. Wells had gone off to God knows where, and Naruto was just chilling. The results were a bit unsettling, they had the exact same brainwaves.
"I'm still inside Ronald." Stein deduced
"There has to be a better way of phrasing that." Cisco said causing Barry to smile
"Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta—all your brain waves are perfectly in sync." Caitlin announced as she looked at Stein and Ronnie "The chances of that happening are next to impossible."
"Impossible is just another Tuesday for us, remember?" Barry stated as he gestured to Naruto
"I mean you're not wrong." Naruto accepted
"Yeah, but this is like some Twilight Zone-level stuff, and I say that knowing full well that we have a guy locked up who can turn himself into poison gas." Cisco commented causing Ronnie to look at them as if they were crazy
"Wait, really?" Ronnie asked
"Dude, that was like, week three." Cisco responded before Stein took of the headset monitoring his brainwaves
"Look, if this Eiling is as dangerous as you say, then I need to warn Clarissa." Stein said as he stood up getting Barry's attention
"I promise, I can get Clarissa out of the city in time, but we need to you stay here." Barry said "Professor, I need you to trust us." Causing Stein to adopt a defeated look
"Very well." Stein said before he walked away
(The next day – Cortex)
Naruto, Sakura, Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, Ronnie, and Frost had gathered after hearing that Eiling and the army had come to Dr. Wells's mansion to get Professor Stein.
"He didn't hurt you?" Barry asked
"Barry, I told you—only my pride is hurt. Unfortunately, I'm not in the position to take on armed soldiers" Dr. Wells answered
"Why didn't you stay here at S.T.A.R. Labs where we know that Eiling and the army can't get you?" Naruto asked
"Because the liquor was at my mansion." Dr. Wells answered
"Where do you think Eiling took Professor Stein?" Caitlin asked
"I imagine some off-the-books military research facility." Dr. Wells answered
"We have to get him back." Barry stated
"Easy—Eiling has already demonstrated he has the weaponry to disable The Flash, or worse." Dr. Wells stated
"Well, we can't let him turn Stein into a weapon." Caitlin said
"I think it's time I step into the picture once again." Naruto growled
"How do we find him?" Ronnie asked before a few seconds later everyone started looking at Ronnie "What?"
"If you and Professor Stein are still linked we can use that to our advantage and find him." Dr. Wells answered before everyone headed for the speed lab, Cisco, Naruto, Sakura, Frost, and Barry all took a seat while Ronnie walked over to the chair and took a seat as Caitlin put a device on his head to monitor his vitals.
"No abnormal brain activity. All vitals steady." Caitlin stated
"Do you really think Ronnie can somehow feel where they're keeping Stein?" Barry asked
"Ronnie got dizzy when the soldiers grabbed Stein, and Stein developed Ronnie's obsession with pizza." Cisco pointed out
"I don't feel anything right now." Ronnie stated
"Just keep trying." Caitlin reassured
"Whatever this is, it doesn't have an on-and-off switch." Ronnie commented
"It's possible it's just some kind of residual connection. A temporary link to your time together." Dr. Wells deduced just as Ronnie began to act up getting everyone's attention
"Wait. I feel something." Ronnie said getting everyone's attention "I'm—I'm cold." About 30 seconds later Ronnie shot up and screamed out in pain causing Cisco to run to his side
"You're okay, man, we got you." Cisco reassured
"What's happening to him?" Barry asked
"Nothing's happening to him. It's happening to Stein, and Ronnie is feeling his pain." Dr. Wells answered "I was wrong. The connection isn't temporary. It's only getting stronger."
"Just try and hold on." Caitlin said trying to make the best of the situation as Ronnie started looking around, seconds later Ronnie grabbed a beaker and broke it before he started cutting into himself
"Ronnie no!" Caitlin called out before Barry got up
"Wait, Cait, wait." Barry pleaded
"He's cutting himself!" Caitlin shouted
"I know. Let him." Barry said before Caitlin backed off as Ronnie continued to carve into his arm, about 30 seconds later Ronnie stopped
"Anything?" Caitlin asked
"Nothing. Nothing, just…just cold. Like a metal surface. Pressure on and on and off." Ronnie answered causing Dr. Wells to adopt a intrigued look
"Tap, tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap, tap, tap." Ronnie said
"It's Morse code." Dr. Wells deduced
"I got this." Cisco said before he ran off to get something to write on
"Same thing again. Tap, tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap, tap, tap." Ronnie said as Cisco wrote it down
"27." Cisco read
"What does that mean?" Caitlin asked
"Army bases—they sometimes go by numbers, like Area 51." Barry deduced "Hagoromo are there any military bases by the number 27?"
"There is one. Facility 27, about 300 miles from here. It was shut down in 1961." Hagoromo answered
"Well, that's where they're keeping Stein." Barry said before he walked over to the door leading into the Cortex
"Bet you that's where they're keeping aliens too." Cisco commented
"One of many." Naruto added causing everyone to look at him funny "I unofficially work for the Department of Extra-normal Operations, also known as the DEO. They keep alien prisoners on base. Anyways, I'm coming as well." Before Ronnie got up
"I'm coming with you." Ronnie stated
"No, you're not." Caitlin responded "You can't."
"I'm connected to Stein. I have to go." Ronnie said
"Did you ever stop to think why your connection to him is growing stronger by the minute?" Caitlin asked "Maybe you're being drawn back together. Maybe your proximity will cause you to re-merge into one."
"And what happens to me if he gets killed?" Ronnie asked "Cait, Barry was right. The world is different now. Look, I—I thought we could get away, start a new life, a normal life, together. But there is no normal life for us. You will always risk your life to try and help people, and I will always be the guy that runs into that pipeline for you." Causing Caitlin to smile before she nodded as Cisco handed the Quantum Splicer to Ronnie
"The quantum splicer. It was used to separate you once. Maybe it could be used to keep you you." Cisco commented
"Thanks." Ronnie said before he turned and began walking away "Okay, let's go."
"Wait." Caitlin called out before she pulled Ronnie into a kiss for a few seconds before they separated "Come back all 4 of you." Before Ronnie and Naruto followed after Barry as he opened the door
"Let's go." Ronnie stated before all 3 men left the speed lab
(10 minutes later – Outside Military Base 27)
Barry, Naruto, and Ronnie had just arrived at the military base.
"Oh. This place definitely doesn't look too shady." Barry commented
"Stein's inside. I can feel our connection growing stronger, like he's pulling me." Ronnie announced
Underlined "It's as I feared—the Firestorm matrix is building towards a proximity reemergence. Like all matter, it yearns to be whole." Dr. Wells explained "If you do merge…we might not be able to separate you again."
"Eiling has a gun to Stein's head. He's about to pull the trigger." Ronnie announced
At hearing this Barry took off into the military base, and several seconds later Barry arrived back with Stein.
"Whoa—I never thought I'd be happy to see you." Stein commented
"Yeah, likewise." Ronnie replied
"Let's get out of here." Barry said before he turned to Naruto who proceeded to open a portal back to the Cortex
Ronnie and Stein stepped thru, just as Barry was about to step thru he turned to Naruto
"You coming?" Barry asked
"I'll be right behind you. I'm going to leave Eiling with one last reminder not to mess with my loved ones or those connected to my loved ones." Naruto answered before Barry stepped through as Naruto closed the portal
"You want to stretch your legs Kurama?" Naruto asked
"Do you even have to ask?" Kurama answered before Naruto flexed his chakra as it poured out of him forming a chakra avatar of Kurama with Naruto in its head as a HUMVEE pulled up and everyone else in the Cortex watched from their Satellite
"I WARNED YOU EILING!" Naruto called out as the base shook from the might of his voice before Eiling and several other soldiers stepped out
"Just what the hell are you?" Eiling called out
"Your worst nightmare!" Naruto answered before with a swipe of his arm the avatar followed suit sending the HUMVEE's flying into the distance "This is your last warning Eiling! Come after anyone that I love or care about and anyone connected to them and feel my wrath." Before he disappeared in a flash of yellow
(S.T.A.R. Labs – Cortex)
Naruto appeared in the Cortex in flash of yellow where he was greeted by Ronnie, Stein, Barry, Dr. Wells, Caitlin, Frost, Cisco, and Sakura.
"That was quite the display of power young man." Stein commented
"I'm going to second that." Ronnie added
"Same here." Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, and Dr. Wells said
"What was that?" Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin asked
"That was Kurama's chakra avatar." Naruto answered
"Who's a whata?" Cisco asked
"Kurama. He's one of the 9 biju I have sealed in my gut that I told you guys about months ago. That was his Chakra avatar, which is basically just a very large construct of chakra." Naruto explained as his suit retreated back into his necklace
"Well anyways Ronald. I think it's time that we remerge." Stein said as he felt their connection growing stronger by the second
"Listen to me. The last time you two combined you both fought it. This time, don't. Accept the change, accept the balance. Accept each other." Dr. Wells explained before Ronnie turned to Caitlin
"Cait…whatever happens, just remember I'll always love you." Ronnie said as he put the Quantum splicer on his chest and watched as several straps spread out from the splicer. Stein and Ronnie grabbed each other's hand before Stein and Ronnie turned into energy that combined to form Ronnie's body.
Caitlin got up from her chair and walked up to Ronnie "Ronnie or Stein?"
"It's me, Cait." Firestorm answered "It's both of us. Somehow."
"Acceptance is a powerful thing." Dr. Wells stated
"Powerful enough to reverse it?" Barry asked
"We could try." Ronnie answered as everyone backed away before Ronnie closed his eyes as energy began to flow out of him, several seconds and a flash of energy later Stein emerged from the energy
"I think we're getting the hang of this quite nicely." Stein commented before Caitlin walked up to Ronnie and hugged him before Ronnie and Stein looked at one another
"It's okay. I understand. You have to go." Caitlin reassured
"How did you know?" Ronnie asked
"I'm connected to you too." Caitlin answered
(The next day – Stein residence)
Naruto, Cisco, Caitlin, Sakura, Barry, and Frost along with Stein had gathered at Stein's house to see Ronnie and Stein off. Stein was currently bidding his farewells to his wife, Clarissa, while Ronnie did the same with Caitlin.
"Where will you go?" Caitlin asked
"Pittsburgh, maybe. Professor Stein has a colleague he thinks can help us learn more about our abilities." Ronnie answered
"We can help you here too. Naruto could even help you." Caitlin offered
"Eiling has already breached S.T.A.R. Labs. We need to stay one step ahead of him…for all of us." Ronnie explained "I'm coming back."
"We'll have pizza waiting." Caitlin said before Ronnie pulled Caitlin into a kiss before Stein walked past them
"Godspeed, Mr. Allen." Stein said as he shook Barry's hand
"You too." Barry responded
"As to our earlier conversation, I believe in second chances. You'll get yours. Give it time." Stein said before he turned around heading for Clarissa "Ready, Ronald?"
"Please stop calling me that." Ronnie responded as he separated from Caitlin
"I'll see you soon." Clarissa said before both Ronnie and Stein walked out the pavement just outside, Naruto, Cisco, Caitlin, Sakura, Barry, and Frost watched them from inside the house as Ronnie activated the Quantum Splicer before they merged and turned to Clarissa and Caitlin
"We love you." Firestorm said before he took off into the sky
