Rosalie

I was hunting with Bree alone tonight, Emmett and Jasper had taken their mates on a trip. It was harder for Leah and Rachel to be around the pregnant imprints than it was for me. Granted, it was still difficult, but I chose to focus my energy on celebrating with them. Bree has been filling me in on the latest between Kate and Embry but I was only half listening to her.

"So anyway, she's totally not coming back." Bree finished the story I hadn't been listening to.

"Kate isn't?" I asked.

She sighed. "Do you ever listen to me? No, Kate told Embry she isn't interested in him."

Embry and Seth had grown close since they were attending school together. Both were on the fast track to medical school. That must be how he was coping- by keeping himself busy. I couldn't imagine another way to get over the rejection of your imprint.

"He must be taking that pretty hard." I commented.

She shrugged. "Seems okay to me. You should come by our place sometimes. Em and Seth feel like they never see you."

Esme had built a small place for them. It was originally intended to give Bree and Seth some privacy, but Embry had quickly moved in with them once Quil started working with Jared in Forks. It was basically in my parent's backyard, but I still had rarely been there. I hunted with Bree every night and I didn't have much time to see her outside of that.

"I've just been busy helping the girls. They're all due within the next week or two. Kim is a little behind Bella and Emily, but Carlisle thinks she'll go early." I responded.

"You know, Embry thinks you're avoiding him. He says you've barely spoken to him since you've been back." She retorted.

He wasn't wrong. I had been avoiding Embry. Originally I told him it was because I wanted to respect his imprint, but it was more than that. I didn't want to hurt Paul again, and I couldn't hurt Embry after his imprint rejected him.

I chuckled. "Well tell him he's ridiculous. And it's a two way street, he can come see me anytime. He knows where I live."

I didn't expect that he'd take me up on that, but I knew at least that Bree would mention it to him. I was growing a little bored with our hunt. Bree took much longer than me and my family since she was still adjusting to animal blood. Part of me thought she took her time so we'd hang out longer. She didn't come to the reservation often, and I sometimes wondered what she did during the day.

We were scaling a mountain when her phone went off. She lost her footing and started to slide down when I grabbed her hand and pulled her back up.

She thanked me and stood up next to me at the top of the mountain. "It's Seth." She opened the message and shrieked loudly. "Bella is in labor! Emily too!"

Before I could respond to her my phone started to ring. It was Paul. "Hello?" I answered.

"Hey babe, can you and Bree get to the res? All three girls are in labor and we could use an extra doctor."

I chuckled. I'd hardly call myself a doctor- not the same way I'd call Carlisle or Sue a doctor- but I'd been through medical school a time or two.

"Of course." I told him. "We'll be right there."

Bree looked at me with a confused expression. "We? I don't go to the res."

"Well you do tonight. Kim is in labor too."

I took off down the mountain we'd just climbed and she followed me hesitantly. Old Quil had made a racist comment that Bree overheard and she hadn't been back to the reservation since. I had told her countless times not to listen to him, but she was difficult to convince. She wouldn't even go to visit Harry and Sue, they came to the place she shared with Seth and Embry to see them instead.

I was surprised that Kim wanted to deliver her baby on the reservation instead of in Forks. Bella and Emily had to; their babies wouldn't qualify as members of the tribe otherwise, but Kim and Jared were both Quileute so the same rule didn't apply to them.

We got to the reservation clinic and I heard all three girls screams before I walked inside. As much as I wanted to go to Bella, I went to Jared first. Kim wasn't quite as far along as the other two girls and I worried about her giving birth here. She needed the equipment they had at the hospital. I dialed 911 and requested an ambulance for her before I walked in.

Carlisle must have had the same idea I did because he was in the room with Kim. I sent Bree to find Seth and I grabbed Jared by his arm and pulled him out of the room.

"What the hell is she doing here?" I demanded. "She needs to go to the hospital in Forks."

Jared was sweating and his face was pale. He seemed terrified. "Please convince her. She doesn't want to leave Bella and Emily. I can't lose her, Rosalie, but I can't force her to go."

"I can." I assured him. I strolled back in the room where Carlisle sat next to her.

Carlisle was trying to convince her, but she was insistent on staying here. He had a softer demeanor than I had, and I could tell he was struggling to maintain his composure with her.

"Kim, do you remember the letter I wrote you?" I asked.

She nodded and started to tear up. "Of course I do."

"Then you remember that I told you I'd make sure you were always taken care of?" She nodded again. "We can't take care of you here. Luckily for me, I'm not afraid of you harming me. Carlisle is being kind to you and so is Jared, but you need to know that if you stay here Carlisle is certain we will lose you or the baby, possibly both."

She started to sob and Jared came back to her bedside and held her hand.

"I called an ambulance from Forks before I got here. If you want to be mad, be mad at me. I can't let my sister or her baby die."

We heard the sirens outside. Carlisle told Jared to let the ambulance know he would be joining her and ran from the room. I followed him, not understanding what he was thinking. Carlisle was the only doctor here and we had two other girls in labor.

I followed him to the lobby of the clinic where he called for Embry and Seth. Sam, Jacob, and Sue followed the two boys to see what Carlisle needed.

"I have to go to the hospital with Kim." He explained. "Rosalie and Sue will be taking care of Bella and Emily, and Seth and Embry will assist."

"They arent doctors." Sam objected. "Are you sure about this, Carlisle?"

He nodded. "Rosalie has been through medical school twice, and she's delivered babies with me before. Sue has done this more than even I have. Embry will assist Rosalie with Bella and Seth will help his mother with Emily. I promise you, this is the best plan of action. Kim needs a c-section and I can't let her go alone."

I was listening to Carlisle, and I certainly wasn't objecting in front of everyone, but I was becoming more and more terrified. I hadn't delivered a baby in over 20 years, and I knew the concept hadn't changed but I couldn't be responsible for harming a pack baby.

Jared ran in to the room. "Ambulance is leaving, Carlisle."

Carlisle turned back to his students. "I have to go, but I need to know you boys can do this. You observed Sue today, are you confident in yourselves?"

They both nodded. "We won't let you down." Embry promised him.

I heard Bella screaming and Jacob left the room to get back to her. Carlisle kissed my cheek. "Go on to your patient, Rosalie. You can do this."

Seth, Sue, and Sam went back toward Emily's room. I knew Bella needed me, but I felt frozen. I needed to go to her, but I couldn't move. Embry walked over to me and grabbed my hand.

"It's okay, Rosalie. I'm scared too. We can be afraid together, we just won't let anyone in Bella's room know."

He led me behind him to her room and I didn't object. Paul and Jacob were standing on either side of Bella and she was gripping their hands tightly. She was drenched in sweat and writhing in pain.

Seeing my mate look so lovingly at her and hold her hand through the pain of childbirth was agonizing. That would never be me. I'd never be able to have this experience with him. I knew it wasn't his child, and that his feelings for her were platonic, but it didn't make it hurt any less. It could have been Leah and I still would've felt the same pain I did now.

Embry was checking her cervix when I realized I'd been standing in the back of the room gawking for awhile. I moved to stand beside him while he worked. He was a natural, I was confident that he'd be a great doctor. I was mostly disengaged from the process and watched as Embry delivered his brother's child.

Bella had a little boy. I walked Jacob through cutting the umbilical cord and cleaned the baby before giving him to Bella. She named him William Charles. He was a gorgeous little boy with the same russet shade of skin that Jacob had.

After we were sure that mother and baby were okay, Embry and I left the room to check on Emily. She had delivered a little boy too, his name was Levi Samuel. Sam was absolutely beaming with his son is his arms.

"Sue, can you take care of Bella? I want to go to the hospital to see Jared and Kim."

She smiled at me. "Of course, sweetheart. Take Paul with you."

I hugged Sue and thanked her for everything. She understood how difficult this was for me because Leah had opened up to her about the same thing. When I went back in Bella's room, Paul was sitting on the side of the hospital bed next to her with her baby in his arms. Jacob was standing up next to him with his hand on Paul's shoulder. Bella saw me enter the room and called me over. She took her baby back from Paul and put him in my arms.

"I was a little sad when I found out he was a boy." Bella told me. "I had the perfect girl name picked out."

Jacob rolled his eyes at her. "We can always have another, Bella. He's perfect."

"Let's hear the girl name, B." Paul said.

Bella smiled at me. "I was going to name her Sarah Lillian."

Jacob gave me a side hug and I noticed a tear running down Paul's cheek. I would have been crying if I was capable. I had grown close to Bella, but I never imagined she would name a child after me.

"That's so kind of you, Bella." I responded to her.

"You saved us, Rosalie. All of us." She told me.

I gave the baby to Jacob and hugged Bella tightly. "I'll always keep you all safe, Bella. I promise."

"I know." She nodded against me.

I pulled away from Bella and Paul kissed her forehead before we left the room. I texted Emmett and Jasper a picture of Bella and Jake with the baby. I wondered how long it would be before the girls were ready to come back, or if they would at all. I had really missed Leah, but I couldn't fault her for needing some space.

Paul led me back to the clinic waiting room and I sat down while he went to say goodbye to Sam. There were a lot of people in that room, and I needed space for a moment before we left for Forks. Bree came out and sat next to me. She seemed uncomfortable, but for different reasons than me. She was telling me a story about something she'd done with Seth the night before, but as usual I was only half listening to her.

I heard the front door to the clinic opening and saw Charlie Swan come in. He was in full uniform, and his expression wasn't what I expected for a man who's first grandchild had just been born. I smiled at him but he looked away from me. Quil walked in behind him a moment later, also in full uniform, and my heart sank. This wasn't a social call.

"Bella is just down the hall if you want to meet the baby, Charlie." I told him.

He looked down. "I wish I was here for Bella." He responded.

Esme appeared at my side a moment later and grabbed my hand gently. "Where is Paul?" She asked me.

I started to panic. My breathing quickened and the world around me faded. What could Paul have done? Why did they need him? He must have heard Esme's question because he walked out of Sam's room.

"What's going on?" He asked Charlie.

Quil started to cry when he saw Paul and Charlie even teared up at the sight of my mate.

"Paul, you and Rosalie need to come with us to the station." Charlie answered him.

Paul was panicking too and I ran to his side. "What's going on?" He demanded. "Why is Quil crying?"

"We need to talk to you about your mother." Esme responded.
