"What do you mean he's already out?!" I yell, while I absently hear Eric's fangs come out.
"Somewhere within the last 24 hours, he has broken through my barrier to this dimension. He is here, and he will be coming for you." Eric takes out his phone, gets up, and walks away. I guess he's organizing whatever extra protection he was talking about.
"Why are you just telling me now?! Don't you think this is something that warranted a phone call?"
"I only found out myself when I came back into this realm when I came to see you. That is why I can only give you a roundabout time that this occurred and he broke through the barrier."
"So what should I do? Are you going to stay to help us? I have no idea how to handle a 6000-year-old fairy vampire."
"I do not think his light stayed with him during the transformation, I would focus on the fact that he's a vampire. He can not come into your house without an invitation, keep a lot of silver around you, and continue to practice your light ball. I will be around, but I cannot stay here 24/7. Being the king, and there are a lot of problems in the faerie, I have to be there a lot. You know I'm only a call away though."
"How am I expected to hit him with my supernova if you could not?"
"Whenever Warlow and I are in the same place it is antagonistic. I think he will come to you and try to sweet talk you into going with him, play along. At some point, while you are talking, leave the room. Maybe by excusing yourself to go use the facilities, then while you are in the other room prepare your light ball. Use your telepathy so you know exactly where he is in the house and surprise him. He won't even be alive long enough to be surprised." Well, that does sound like it could work. That's a good idea.
"Okay, I think I can do that"
"You must practice though Sookie, fae can feel another fae, you do not want him to get suspicious, so practice to make yourself be able to do it quickly. "
"Okay, I will. Don't worry grandfather, I will make sure to be the one who ends Warlow's reign of terror" Wow, I feel the fairy in me come out there, I almost felt as bloodthirsty as Eric does when he's in battle. Eric must have also been surprised by my feelings, because he vamps back into the room and looks around, making sure there is no enemy here to fight.
"You are well beloved?"
"As well as can be expected at least. Eric, what are we going to do?"
"Bill might be king, but I am the oldest vampire in this state so the other vampires will listen to me if I tell them to do something. Colonel Flood, the pack master of the Shreveport pack, and I have an accord as well. He will be sending guards too. I have made sure that we have a constant guard around our house during the night. We have The wards up to stop anyone with ill will towards you, but I do not know if that will help. He is looking for a wife, not trying to hurt or kill you. On top of that, I have Octavia coming back to do a few more wards, anyone other than humans will not be able to enter your property at all without explicit invites. Humans, fae, witches, werewolves, trolls, anything won't be able to set foot on our property after tomorrow. Also, I have my best trackers out looking for him. I have a few other things in the works too, we are doing what we can right now. Don't worry min kara, we will get him." I feel so much love when I think about all Eric does to make sure I'm safe and cared for. I send all the love I have to him through the blood bond. He keeps a serious expression on his face but his eyes soften and show love. I get up and put the baked macaroni I prepared last night in the oven and come back to the room to hear them talking.
"…Are your vampires able to handle themselves?"
"Speak plainly Niall, what are you asking?"
"If I send some fairies to you, fairies that can suppress their smell, can I trust that they won't be harmed by your vampires?"
"Yes, I will make sure of it. Send whatever you can." Niall didn't verbally respond, he just nods his head and stands up, getting ready to leave. "One more question speaking of scents, why have you not suppressed yours coming here tonight, and why do I have no urge to drain you?" What? His scent has been there this whole time and Erics has been acting like nothing is wrong?
"You are bonded to a fae now, you will have no urge to drink from any but her," he says making it seem like Eric is an idiot for not already knowing this. He then continues in a much less condescending tone."Seems like you have things well in hand Viking, I know you will do what you must to keep her safe." He sounds grateful, and he then turns his attention to me "Dear granddaughter, I am but a call away. I will check on you soon, I will try to handle the problems going on in the fairy realm fast so I can come back here and help you."
He opens up his arms for another hug. I'm mad at him for all that he's hidden from me, but he's still my grandfather and I can't turn down the feeling I get while touching another fairy, so I hug him. Once we're done he hugs me and pops away. I take a second to think about all that I have learned in the last hour, and I'm getting extremely stressed. There's just so much going on and so many different enemies coming at us from all directions. I honestly don't know what to do, and I don't know how to make sure we're safe. Eric must feel my distress because he comes up behind me and wraps me in his arms. He's also pushing calmness and good feelings toward me and I gratefully accept them. After all, I could use a little help getting my emotions under control. Thank the lord for Eric, I'd be lost right now if it wasn't for him. He'll make sure we're okay, I know it.
"Just take a deep breath lover, It will be okay. We'll be fine, I swear this to you."
"Thanks, Eric, I know we will be. It's just overwhelming dealing with all of this." Just then his phone rings and he looks at the caller id and says, "it's Pam."
He answers it and starts talking to Pam, setting up plans for the security around our yard, and making plans for the governor. I was about to go do the dishes that have piled up but someone knocks on the door. Since it's only Eric and me on the property, my shields were already down and for some reason, Andy Bellefleur is standing on my front porch. It's strange, I know he doesn't like me too much, he thinks I'm crazy just like the rest of the town. Maybe he's here on sheriff's duty? I answer the door with a smile while putting my shields up to respect his privacy.
"Hey Andy, what can I do for you?"
"Evenin' Sookie, mind if I come in?"
"Sure, can I get you something to drink? Maybe some sweet tea, or some water? I was about to pull dinner out of the oven and I made way too much for one person, are you hungry?"
"That sounds great Sookie, thank you. I'm pretty hungry."
"No problem Andy"
I put on my oven mitts and get them out of the oven. Mhmm, whenever I make this it makes me think of gran because this is her recipe. The smell in the house makes me miss her a lot. I guess Eric is done with his phone call because he walks into the room and Andy gives him a confused look. Have they ever met before?
"Sorry Sookie, I didn't know you had a guest over. I don't have to stay to eat."
"Don't worry about it Andy, Eric's not a guest, he lives here. It's fine you're here. Here you go, enjoy the food, then you can tell me what's wrong." I put his plate in front of him and sit down with mine to eat.
"Pam is on her way here lover, I am going to shower and wait for her" I pout at him because I can't join him and he just smirks
'Do not worry, the night is still young. I will have plenty of time to worship your body once the guests leave. I must get the scent of fae off me.'
I grow aroused at the thought of what his worshiping me entails, and his eyes darken with lust when he smells it. Then I blush because even though Andy can't hear us, we're still talking about that in front of a guest. Then I blush darker if that is possible because Andy must think we're crazy. After all, we've just been staring at each other the whole time. The vampires know what we're doing when we stare at each other like this, but there's no way a human could guess. So I clear my throat and look away.
"Okay, I'm just going to eat and talk to Andy here." Eric nods and walks away.
"Wow Sookie, this tastes just like Mrs. Stackhouse's used to."
"Thanks, it's her recipe. So, what can I do for you?"
"I need your help. My girls are showing signs that they're like you."
"Your girls? Like me how?"
"My daughters. They can do what you can do with your mind. I figured you could help them control it." Does Andy have daughters? Since when? I know I haven't been to Merlotte's lately, but it hasn't been long enough for Andy to have kids old enough to talk!
"Andy, forgive me but since when do you have daughters?"
"About two weeks ago I met a lady and she and I uh had relations, then I see her later again at that crazy club Jason and I went to. Well, a few days later she came to be pregnant looking like she was about to pop. She had the four girls and then left and left the kids with me. That was only two days ago, and I'm not good at guessin' kids ages none, but they already look like they're maybe 7 or maybe 10 years old and they can talk already. I don't know nothing about raising girls, thank god I got Holly and Arlene helping me. The problem is, they're answerin' questions that no one asked. making comments about things I only thought about. They're like you Sookie and I don't know how to handle them, I need your help."
"Fairy…" That's all I can think or say for a minute. Wait! That fairy that helped us with the scroll about Warlow was pregnant. What was her name? "Maurella!"
"Yeah, that was her name, so you know her?"
"I only met her once a few days ago, but she was pregnant."
"Oh yeah, that's her. So do you think you could help me out?"
"Oh of course Andy. I wouldn't want those girls to grow up the way I did. It took me way too long to learn how to block people out, school was terrible for me. Although I guess if they are growing like fairies, they won't be going to school. You guys can probably come by tomorrow, the only thing is that Eric will have to be here with me. I'm dealing with my own troubles right now so it's not safe to be on my own."
"Was that man Eric?"
"Yeah, that's him."
"Is he a vampire? Because Maurella said I have to keep her safe from vampires, Apparently they like her too much and she's not safe around them. I'd have to assume it would be the same for my girls."
"Normally that would be true but Eric is mine!" I feel that possessive fairy feeling again, and I'm pretty sure I growl when I say it because Andy is looking at me strangely, he may be even a little bit scared. I shake my head and clear my throat again. "Anyway, they're safe around him, he just spent an hour with a fairy, not a half hour ago. Don't worry Andy, your kids will be safe with us, I promise"
I take my shields down to listen to him now. 'I don't know, I know Sookie isn't a bad person, so I know she wouldn't knowingly put my girls in danger. On the other hand, he's still a vampire, and vampires can't handle smelling fairies. I guess Sookie is a fairy too, and that vamp seems to do fine around her. Yeah, Sookie's a good girl, if there was a chance of my girls getting hurt, she'd tell me, so I can trust her.'
"Okay Sookie, let's do it. I really need your help. So me and my girls can come over tomorrow?"
"Yeah no problem Andy, we'll see you tomorrow. Probably around 8ish"
"Thank you Sookie, this means the world to me. Uhh I know I didn't always treat you the best. I bought into that whole 'Sookie's crazy' idea and because of that, I didn't always do right by you. I'm sorry, I get it now, well as much as someone who can't read minds can anyway. I get what Mrs. Stackhouse felt anyhow, you deserved better than what this town gave you. For that, I'm truly sorry."
"Thank you, Andy, that means a lot. I know it's something that isn't easy to get or understand. I don't hold it against you." Andy gets up to leave, he opens his arms and walks close as if he's trying to hug me. At the last second, he thinks better of it and puts his arms down.
"Uh okay Sookie, I'll see ya tomorrow then." He says his voice a little more gruff than normal and heads to the door. I follow him, manners demand it of me. He stops at the door and gives a look around the house. "Wow Sookie, the house looks great. Your Gran would have been real proud of what you did to the place."
"Thanks Andy. Eric did it for me while I was away for that year, I think she'd love it too. I'll see you tomorrow Andy." He waves and walks out the door and back to his car, I close the door.
Once he leaves, I walk back over to the kitchen table and sit back down, I need to take a few seconds to center myself. Eric's only been up for three hours and the amount of information that I've gotten since then is staggering. I can't believe Warlow is out, a 6000-year-old vampire that has a grudge against my family, and on top of all that he thinks I'm his bride-to-be. It'll be okay though, Eric has a crazy amount of security measures, he's a vampire, so he won't come unless Eric is up, I can teleport away if I'm in a dangerous situation or if I feel unsafe. Let's just say it won't be easy for him to steal me away. Then there's the fact that Eric can now hang out with fairies with no problem, which is definitely good. On top of all that and all our other problems, there are four new fairies in the town. I won't let any harm come to them. Weird, I feel the same fairy possessiveness that I feel when someone tries to touch Eric, when I think about those girls, and I haven't even met them yet. I jump because Eric vamps behind me and wraps his hands around my waist.
"Hello lover, is all well? He's not one of your close friends, I haven't seen here him before."
"No, he's not. I think everything is okay, we might have added some extra work to our load though. But we have to do it"
"Explain."
"While I was at the fairy club because of the scroll this pregnant woman helped me. Well, it turns out that she was pregnant with Andy's kids. They are quadruplets, growing like a fairy so they are all about the human age of seven now. They are all like me, telepaths."
Erics stiffens for a second then forces himself to relax. He knows how dangerous life can be for fairies. "Tomorrow we have them over and get to know them, hopefully, help them understand what's going on with them. I have to help them learn how to do what they can. I was also thinking of telling Claude what is happening, he might be able to help too. They're way more fairy than me, I'm only 1/8th they're 1/2".
"Yes, I see what you mean about us having more work. This can be dangerous, we must work hard to keep it a secret. You know as well as I that there will be an abundance of supes trying to take advantage of them."
"Exactly, that is what I'm worried about. We can't let that happen to them, Eric."
"Don't worry min kara, we won't. Now, since your friend is gone, I'll just have Pam come inside. She should be here soon"
"Who should?" Pam says after she vamped in here quietly. I let out a small scream embarrassingly. Damn vampires and their stealth.
"Damn it, Pam, you scared the shit out of me!"
"Oh Sookie, I expect more from you. That shouldn't have scared you, it is not like you're new to vampires, you've been dealing with us for years." Pam says.
"She's not wrong, you must always be watching Sookie. Especially with Warlow on the loose." Eric chimes in.
"Alright, I get it. I usually don't have to worry when I'm with Eric though. I know he's always on top of it, so I don't have to be." Eric looks at me with love in his eyes.
"That is true lover, you may let your guard down while you're around me most of the time. For now though, while Warlow is on the loose, be careful." I give him a strong nod because I understand the importance of what he is saying. Eric looks at Pam, "update?"
"Willa has agreed to be turned, we're hoping that with his daughter being one of us he'll back off of his crusade. I have learned more about the 'vamp camp' he has built. They have already caught some vampires, mostly young ones so far but they are learning what works to capture us and what doesn't. In the camp, they are trying to study us. Willa said they're studying 'your biology, your psychology, and your physiology'. They want to learn how to use it for themselves, they want to figure out how we stay young forever. Which is just hypocritical, since they say we are an abomination. They're going to put vampires in a room together and make them fight it out until there's only one left, survival of the fittest. It is disgusting what they have planned and are already starting to do, we have to find a way to shut it down."
"Okay, move forward with the daughter, I will start working on shutting the camp down. Where are you and your progeny going to be staying tonight? You need somewhere safe because as of right now it is not safe to be outside at night, they're capturing any vampires they see."
"I was thinking of going back to my house, no one knows where it is."
"That will be fine. until we have this settled, send ginger or your day man out for what you need."
"Yes, master." Then Pam is gone.
"I can't believe what they are doing, it's horrible!"
"Yes, we will make sure we stop it, do not worry. I already have some of the local Were pack there pretending to be guards. They are helping the vampires already in there and they are destroying it from the inside. I do not think it will be enough though, we'll probably have to go in there and take it down."
"That seems dangerous Eric, they made weapons designed to take you down!"
"I have faced worse, we cannot let this go on. Ideally, Willa will change the governor's mind, and he will stop this."
"I know you're right, it's just scary thinking that the government has turned on you." He walks up to me and puts his hand on my cheek and rubs it gently.
"All will be well min kara. Come, let us go to bed." We spend the rest of the night in bed getting rid of the stress that's built up the last few days.
When I wake up the next day it's about 1 in the afternoon. I have to go back to the fairy club today to ask Claude to come to the house to meet Andy and his girls tonight. So I spend a few more minutes cuddling with Eric, give his butt a good squeeze, and get up to get ready. In about a half-hour, I'm walking out the door. It's a beautiful day so I decide to walk instead of driving, it's only about a ten-minute walk anyway. When I get there, they're partying just as hard as always. Claude is at the bar so I walk up to him.
"Hey Claude, how are you doing today?"
"I am well cousin, what are you doing here on this beautiful day?"
"I was coming to talk to you actually, I had a visit from the sheriff yesterday. Apparently, he's the father of Maurella's children. She had the babies, left them with him, and disappeared. He's just a regular human, so he has no clue how to handle those girls. I was hoping you could come to my house today to talk to them. Maybe give him some pointers? I'll help with telepathy but I'm still learning about what it means to be a fairy every day, so I don't think I'll be much help in that department."
"You know fairies and vampires do not mix, will Eric be there?"
"Yeah, but it's okay because he was with Niall last night no problem, and Niall didn't suppress his scent. Apparently, it's a side effect of the soul bond."
"Wow, he's an ancient full fairy, if Eric can handle that then they shall be fine. Of course, I'll come."
"Okay, thanks. It'll probably be around 8 tonight."
"Okay just call me when you're ready for me."
"Okay, what's your number?"
"Not on the phone cousin, with your fairy power." He says with a chuckle.
"Oh, right. Okay, I will. I'll see you tonight Claude." I say with a laugh, and a wave of the hand and walk away.
The walk back was uneventful until I saw someone laying on the ground off the side of the road all bloody. Just keep walking Sookie, you don't know who Warlow is, it's not safe for you to stop. So I keep walking until I realize it's daylight so I can help him safely. I turn around and walk back, when I get closer I can see that the blood looks like it came from vampire bites all over his body. That messed up, there are so many bites that he has to be low on blood.
"Are you okay?" Dumb question Sookie, he's obviously not okay.
"No," he says with a forced chuckle.
"What happened to you?" Another dumb question, it's clear what happened. I let down my shields to listen in. 'He smelled my blood, he just kept bitting me and wouldn't stop'
"Vampire attacked me" his brain sounded familiar, I think he's like me.
'Are you a fairy?' I asked telepathically.
'A halfling' he answered.
'Me too' I smile, it's not often I meet another telepath. He tries to move but grunts in pain.
"Okay, you need a hospital."
"No, hospitals don't know what to do with fairies."
Gosh dang it, he's right. I can't leave him here, can I? No, I don't think I could do that and not feel horrible about it. Fuck, I guess I can go home and grab some stuff for first aid and bring it back here. I don't want to bring him to the house, I don't know the guy. Well, I think that's the safest way to help him while not putting myself in extra danger. I always pop away if he gets creepy. Yeah, that's what I'll do.
"I'll be right back."
