[Room Of Requirements]
[TPP]
It has been a month since Nate arrived at Hogwarts. He has been studying his Languages and Philosophy for quite sometime.
And he realised his was a dilemma of justness of killing, which would always remain morally wrong, but sometimes it has to be done, if the reason for killing saves more lives.
His second dilemma laid in the fact of what is right and what is legal. In here he had formed his own opinions which he was sure most would disagree with, but the policies of the Ministry of Magic were simply not something he would abide by. The institution, by design, was racist and incompetent.
Secondly, even if the ministry was not racist or incompetent, even a competent ministry would lash out against him because a wizard like Nate simply wasn't the type of person there policies were designed to handle. Most wizards can't cast a good shield charm. It was a good thing the Ministry was not competent, thus allowing Nate to slip through the cracks of its net.
Nate really disliked that people thought wizards in general were stupid. Wizards are just people as well. And most often intelligent people do not realize the sheer stupidity, moronic people are capable of.
He had translated a single book on time magic until this point and was generally adding more words to his Sanskrit vocabulary. His Greek was also coming along nicely.
From his studies in time until this point he has understood that the magic that involves time is very unstable. To the point that even performing such magic can cause immense damage to the time stream itself. The magic of time is not about power it is about stability.
Nate was also starting to understand that it would take a few years before he was competent in Time magic.
The second thing he had realized was time magic was a freely manipulated type of magic just like elemental magic. It was a big discovery since Nate had been thinking of that enchantments and time turners were the main methods of time manipulation.
The book he had read was named कालः
It meant time in Sanskrit. It was a book that explained the concept of history to people. It was also a book on an introductory study of time itself.
It stated that the magic of time was all about stability of the magic itself followed by the stability of the time stream. History was described as the past that has an observer. If an observation was made in the past then it was and would remain unchanged. This was a necessity for the stability of the time stream.
Thus an observed fact like Independence of the US from British Control in 1776 could never be changed. If one tried to change such a 'fact' then the time stream would become unstable. The more History was changed, the more time would be destabilized. At a certain point of no return, it would throw, often violently, an anomaly causing such an instability, back to its own time while ageing the anomaly rapidly. Such an event was called a ' Blip.'
Time corrects itself and does not allow for casual loops. It also does not allow informational or positional paradoxes.
This would allow time travel where you cannot change already established facts but can change the way the facts came to be.
Nate had been happy with such a discovery because it allowed him the levy to achieve one of his goals if he approached such a thing properly.
His studies were not the only interesting thing that happened though. He had developed a tentative friendship with George Weasley. He did not like Fred Weasley much as the boy was too loud and obnoxious.
His legilimency had improved even more, so did his reportiere in Charms. His illusions that could replicate taste were getting closer and closer to a realistic feel thanks to the brilliant idea of using Bertie Botts every flavor beans as a way to replicate various tastes. Even though it disgusted him to eat those daily in the name of magic.
His elemental spells showed no change in power but he had gained the idea of increasing the speed of spell casting. He had been practicing for that particularly.
He had started casting runes and enchantments on his weaponry inside the Tesseract almost daily. The wards he could call upon using the spears of his cube were nearly equal to the wards at Hogwarts itself though they would still be in a smaller area and last a lower time.
The teachers showed varying reaction through this time. Minerva McGonagall remained polite and curt with Nate. Filius Flitwick always seemed jovial while talking to him as they discussed ideas related to charms. Sprout had been perfectly amiable throughout his herbology lessons. Snape did not antagonize Nate but he was treated as a non-entity in Potions regardless. Hooch had been perfectly polite while Binns had not even taken Nate's name correctly during attendance.
The staff member Nate had truly struck up friendship with would have to be the beautiful Bathshida Babbling who he had asked about work patents and other smaller laws for one of his smaller ideas.
Nate was truly enjoying his schooling and he realized that if he decided to not come to Hogwarts it would have been a massive loss to his growth. Emotionally and magically both.
Right now he was moving out of the room of requirements towards his planned meeting with one Albus Dumbledore.
[Headmaster's Office]
[TPP]
Nate entered the office and saw Dumbledore sitting at his table. The table was filled with all kinds of trinkets.
Dumbledore said, "Mr Grey, how have you been adjusting to Hogwarts?"
"Actually, it has been great since I joined and I have made a new friend. I have new ideas that I could pursue and talking to people has helped me. At home, the only people I talked to were my family and the change of pace has been enjoyable and nice."
Dumbledore nodded thoughtfully,"That is good to hear, my boy. The reason I have called you today is related to your education."
Nate was perplexed by the statement, "What do you mean sir?"
"Tell me Mr Grey, have you heard of Nurmengard, Azkaban or Pyramids Of Giza?"
"Of course."
"Two of those were made by a single wizard. I mean to ask you about a legacy project. Something that would take years to build but would embody you."
Nate was interested because he thought he could understand where this was going.
"So you want me to design a fortress?"
"Not a fortress my boy. Anything you think would leave a lasting impression on the world."
"And pray tell how do you think I will create such a thing sitting in a castle ?"
Dumbledore smiled, "That my boy is the hundred galleon question. How, how indeed?"
"I haven't agreed yet, you know, Sir." Nate muttered when he saw Dumbledore getting overly excited.
"Of course my boy, we will meet again after Christmas and if you agree, we can get the smaller details clear."
Nate shrugged, "Why not?"
"That will be all, Mr Grey."
