[Summer, 1991]
[Ildathach]
Nate portkeyed to his island. It had been a week into the start of summer. Nate took a whole week off during the beginning of summer to relax.
' Not that I could go any faster.' Nate thought.
"Welcome to Ildathach, Master." came the serene voice of Miach.
"Miach, how are the cattle doing?" Nate asked worried about his investments.
"The cattle you bought are thriving. We will remain self-sufficient in terms of meat, milk and eggs for a good time. Though none of these things are being stored or processed."
Nate nodded knowing Miach only could truly control the weather which while useful was not all that useful for such tasks. He would have to handle the construction and enchantment.
"The mundane and magical plants?" Nate inquired of the spirit.
"I have actually allowed the safer magical plants and mundane trees together while keeping their more dangerous growing relatives in different area. Your growth spell from herbology has done well. The sea weeds also thrive on the island's edges, again I don't have them being collected due to a lack of golems."
Nate nodded at the report.
"The centaurs causing trouble?"
"They had been a bit reluctant in parting with their blood but since then, have been collecting wood and herbs to store as the contract stated for exchange. You will have to start finding people within two years. We will need potions."
"I will take care of that, trust me."
"You are planning on draining the graduate muggleborn from Britain?" Miach gave him a knowing look.
"I was. The question is the liability it presents with the statue of secrecy."
"The blood contract binds everyone, Nate. You can add a simple clause, can't you?" Miach asked confused.
"That contract can't be edited once cast."
"Well, not that I have much knowledge of it." Miach shrugged.
"How is the town coming along?"
"The tower of Grey is complete. The Golems have also finished the other buildings you asked for. The rocks have been laid to resemble a large tower, you will just have to fuse and enchant it. The golems are now digging a sewer system that would dump waste water"
"You say it, like it is an easy task to do."
"For anyone average maybe not, but for you, it would not be that difficult a feat."
Nate walked out of the cave, that Miach had removed the portkey jinx from.
He looked towards the massive island he had drawn out from the sea itself. Where once stood a black and rocky wasteland, now stood a thick forest that covered about three-quarters of the island. The only part that was not covered in these had golems moving about it, they worked in perfect sync.
Nate asked Miach, "I can feel a small amount of drain on my magic. I would have expected it to be more. "
"The centaurs use their magic at night thus allowing me a fair amount during the day, I can control all the wards and the golems with the amount I have."
Nate nodded and started walking towards the Tower Of Grey, the tallest building in Ildathach. As he walked through the town that was being built, he could see the golems carrying small black boulders and arranging them on top of each other to form rudimentary shelters which Nate would fuse together to form the finished product.
After walking for about two minutes, they reached what looked like a really tall pile of rocks.
Nate turned and sighed out, "Everything is going as I envisioned it would. Yet it is not satisfactory."
"Keeping your head down so that the ministry doesn't get involved is a prudent course of action." The spirit smiled.
"I couldn't even buy wand trees thanks to their regulations, same with dragon eggs, Thunderbirds, or anything that would be interesting." Nate's face twisted in a hateful expression.
"Losing your temper will not help your endeavours, things like this take time even when a large number of wizards work on them." Miach put a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I am just so bloody slow. Yes, I am getting stronger, but at the end of the day, I am still a one-trick pony. I am good at a few branches, average at others and trash at Transfiguration, arguably one of the most important forms of magic. Voldemort whose speciality is dark magic, is also competent in transfiguration."
"It is fine. Being bad at a piece of magic doesn't mean you are incompetent. And don't forget that Chronomancy, your true ace, is something that separates you from others, as far as we know, there has been no wizard that has a skill in the branch equal to your own right now and you continue to push it beyond its boundaries.
The Chronos spell has only been used by one other who lacked the power and control to use it, You have a complete mastery of local time flow of an object, Nate.
Why can't you do Transfiguration anyways, is there a reason for your deficiency in it?"
"There are three types of casters: Emotional Casters, Intuitive Casters and Rigid Casters. Remember these are broad terms, a person can fall into two categories at a time as well.
Some wizards use their emotions as a support for casting magic. These wizards often are stronger than the other two categories. Their emotions will aid their magic whilst using it. Salazar Slytherin, Voldemort, Filius Flitwick, Grandmother and most dark wizards are emotional casters. These type of casters have an inherent advantage in battle magic and dark magic. They also have a inherent disadvantage in Non-verbal casting since without screaming and shouting, the additional help is reduced despite the emotions.
Intuitive Casters use their magic in a more natural way. Wizards like me, Merlin and Godric Gryffindor lie in this category. They have an inherent skill in pieces of magic that are more instinctual in nature like apparition, elemental spells, magic that requires free manipulation, etc.
Rigid casters are the most common type of casters, they use magic in a fixed method. They call upon spells from memory
and use will power to support their magic. Mother, Father, Grandfather, Dumbledore are rigid casters. They have an inherent advantage in Charms,Transfiguration and more common branches of magic."
"Godric Gryffindor was a master of transfiguration." Miach deadpanned.
"Reading history, are you?" Nate smiled at the spirit's shrug, "Transfiguration requires you to predict the inherent properties of a material by drawing a comparison with a similar material with known properties, it is a branch of magic that requires experience and time. Around ten years of dedicated study to be called a master in the field. Do you think if I had such amount of time I would not practice it?"
"If you are just not dedicating time to it, then why can't you learn the basics of it?" Miach asked.
Nate grimaced, "I can cast illusions that are solid and animated, I don't really have to turn to transfiguration for it. Though I still lack the Magical Strength of Area required to be competent in it like masters of the field, it will be a waste of magic to turn to it on my part."
"So your incompetence in Transfiguration is by choice and not by any inherent disadvantages, that's good. So if you are not learning transfiguration, why learn subjects like Astronomy, Potions, Herbology, History, etc. at all?"
"Because Dumbledore wouldn't negotiate it, dropping transfiguration completely was difficult enough. I still take end-of-year exams for charms and DADA despite not attending the classes. The rest are things that I have no study in and basic knowledge of them is important. Especially Potions and Herbology." Nate's reply lead to Miach nodding.
"So are you going to begin working on the building?" Miach asked.
"Yes, I should begin working."
