A/N: I just got around to watching the last episode of the Vampire Diaries (3x21, Before the Sunset) and I actually screamed at the scene where Caroline escapes and Klaus finds her. I just wanted them to SNOG! But they didn't, so being as impulsive as I am, I immediately ran to my laptop and began writing what I (and probably many other Klaroline shippers) wanted to happen. THEY DID!

The funny thing is, I used to LOVE Caroline & Tyler. *Sigh* I guess you've got to always love the bad boys, right?

Also, I'm thinking about making a companion piece to this one, probably a bit longer and slightly different, so please review and let me know if I should!

Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Diaries, all rights go to their respected owners. Although, if I could own Klaus...well, the world would be a better place, that's all I'm sayin'.

Caroline ran down the hall Mystic High School and only stopped when she noticed that Elena wasn't following her. She turned back to look and suddenly a hand enclosed over her mouth; she struggled and screamed, although they were muffled against her attacker's palm. This was it, Alaric had killed Elena and now he was going to pierce her heart with that damn white oak dagger. She closed her eyes and her breathing slowed as she prepared for death.

"Shh, shh, it's okay. It's me, you're safe," His voice consoled. A strong arm encircled her waist as Caroline's eyes opened again. Klaus's voice tickled her ear as her whimpers disappeared. Klaus looked down the hallway, listening hard to pinpoint exactly where Alaric was.

"We'll save Elena," He whispered. "You go straight home; you stay inside do you understand?" His voice was low and dangerous, sending a shiver down her spine. He spun her suddenly, leaning close.

"Do you understand me?" He asked, almost desperately. She nodded.

"Thank you," She said. He reached a hand up and brushed the vervain scars on her cheeks.

"He did this to you?" He asked, his eyes burning. Caroline nodded again. "And this," He gestured to her hands.

"Yes,"

"Then he will die." Klaus promised. He began to walk away, but stopped and shook his head.

"I'm sorry, Caroline, but I can't just leave," She raised an eyebrow, confused at his words, as he ran at her and swept her into his arms, pressing his lips to hers. Caroline resisted at first, but she just couldn't. The kiss was fantastic, and she'd always wondered what Klaus would taste like. Her arms lost the strength to fight him, and instead slid around his neck, her eyes fluttering closed and a sigh escaping her mouth. And then he pulled back, and the magic was lost.

"Humpf?" It made Klaus chuckle that she couldn't even form a proper sentence. Or word.

"I told you, you aren't ready to come with me yet. But some day you will, and I'll be waiting," He gave her one last long kiss, and then he was gone, leaving a shaking Caroline raising a hand to her lips and staring in the direction he'd gone.

Bonnie's spell had worked, but Klaus was the one that they used it on, and Caroline was numb when Tyler told her the news. She'd pretended to be happy, joined in with that 'victory party' but inside she was screaming with pain. If only things had been different, if only he'd been the good guy, maybe it could've worked out.

That night, curled alone in her bed, Caroline finally let herself cry, and mourn for the love she'd lost.

A/N: It isn't that great, and I promise if I write a companion piece, it'll be better!

(Basically what'll happen is Caroline will kiss Klaus instead of the other way around, and there will probably be a happier ending...)

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this short one-shot!
