Honestly, the story will spice up from here. So many moving gears, it is interesting what Rowling created as a children's book ultimately had so much depth.
[September 1st, 1991.]
[King's Cross Station, Muggle London.]
Nate walked out of the standard floo exit onto Platform Nine and three-quarters.
Unlike the previous years when only one or two members of the press were present at the platform, it was filled with reporters.
' Why the hell are there so many journalists in here, most people only read the Prophet or Witch Weekly anyways. Must be foreign press.'
He could hear them talking about The-Boy-who-lived and there were whispers of the Dark Lord getting sighted at Hogwarts along with sceptics shooting the idea down completely.
' Harry Potter should be thankful that he wasn't born into this environment, it would have ruined the boy.' The thought made Nate grimace, ' Not that being destined for death, being a Horcrux and Dursley household are a good choice either.'
The life of Harry Potter could be defined by the words, 'Clueless and Angry.'
Nate shook his head and looked towards his mother, she was gazing around most probably searching for the boy.
"Looking for the-boy-who-lived?" Nate asked.
She nodded sheepishly, "I am. I mean aren't you curious? What kind of person the saviour of the wizarding world is?"
"He is not the saviour of the wizarding world though, he is the saviour of Wizarding Britain.
Voldemort-" Nate ignored his mother's flinch at the name even though it annoyed him- "was so successful in his campaign because, unlike the rest of Europe, which had seen the need to control wizards of such power through either appeasement or violence, thanks to Grindelwald's own campaign.
Britain never truly got involved in the war, they sent troops, yes, but never really fought an invasion from a foreign entity like France did against Austria. The British wizarding world was untouched by the wizarding world war even though parts of India and Bhutan were affected, they never realized the threat a competent Dark Lord poses to a government.
Have you seen how often Dumbledore is mocked by the Prophet? That was not something you could get away with, not against Voldemort or Grindelwald. Dumbledore's mild nature makes people underestimate the power he has.
Harry Potter isn't even the saviour of Britain, Lily Potter was. The traditionalist block just likes playing the boy up, to disprove the idea that a mud blood-" his mother's gasp at the word was ignored by Nate -"could compare to their esteemed bloodlines."
"Can you please not say the word, Nate? It might give people the wrong idea. I don't understand your obsession with the idea of not giving the word power just like most people." His mother said, frowning.
"It is fun to gaslight both sides." Nate smiled, "It brings me tremendous joy."
His mother sighed, "I can see why you aren't friends with many people."
"If I were any other common boy with a lowly bloodline, mother, your words would have wounded me, but the noble blood of the Greys flows through my veins, I do not consort with the plebians," Nate said, his nose pointed up in a way that resembled Lucius Malfoy in the Daily Prophet.
She smiled at him, "Be careful and take care, my baby."
Nate hugged her using his left hand while carrying his trunk in the right hand, "You too, mum. Take care."
He stepped into the Hogwarts express, many children his age would be embarrassed hugging their parents, but Nate loved his family.
Nate walked slowly looking in each cabin of the train from start to finish searching for, Daphne Greengrass.
It was near the beginning of the end of the train, that he finally found her, a tall girl with blonde hair and black eyes with a face that looked to be made out of marble.
' The future Ice Queen of Slytherin looks like a brat huh.' Nate cracked a smile under the illusion hiding him from her and her partner.
' That must be Tracey Davis, who is Greengrass' best friend.' She had brown hair and blue eyes, and the girl's excited talking contrasted with her friend's cold face.
As he was observing them, another element that he would have to keep an eye on showed himself. Draco Malfoy with Goyle and Crabbe walked towards the door of the duo's cabin. Nate recognised the boy by the goons following him and his hair, which was lighter than Nate's own in colour. Nate's hair colour was more silvery grey than dirty white.
' This is going to be interesting.' Nate grinned as he wanted to see the boy's reaction to a half-blood.
He walked in with the Slytherin Trio under his illusion.
Draco began in his arrogant tone, "Daphne Greengrass, a pleasure to meet you."
Nate saw that he had completely ignored Davis, which did not go unnoticed by the girls either, instead of taking offence, Davis greeted him in an excited voice, "Draco Malfoy, amazing to meet you. You look just like your father." Malfoy looked at Tracey, with a very flattered face, he said, "Thank you, Davis. A pleasure to meet you too."
' Oh, my god! She is one of the more dangerous Slytherins. Rosier would have loved this one, just like Slughorn. Damn, Rosier is unlucky to have graduated this year, he would have liked her as a contact.'
Daphne who had been silent up to that point, looked at Draco and said as if in awe of his presence, "Mr Malfoy is amazing, he is the only one that keeps Dumbledore in check." The old man's name was said with such exaggerated derision that only someone like Malfoy who looked particularly weak to flattery would fall for it.
"Yes, my father is an amazing man, Greengrass. By the way, this is Crabbe and Goyle. You might know their father from their work in the ministry." he bragged in his pompous voice.
"Ah! Of course, we know them both, but they aren't as cool as your father, Draco."
' Davis is inflating the little shit's ego.'
"Yes, of course, anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to you two. I will be leaving. I have to look for Harry Potter they say he is attending here."
After Malfoy left, Davis said sarcastically, "Malfoy Sr. is a tosser while Malfoy Jr. is a moron."
Daphne's cold face melted into a grin, "Malfoy is an annoying prat, but he is a stupid one."
"Quick to anger and quick to flatter. Didn't you tell me that there was someone your father told you that would meet you on the train?" Tracey smiled.
"Yes, dad did say that but he didn't say, who it was."
"Any guesses?"
"No, he told me that whoever it is, has been a family friend for years."
"Our families have been, Ms Greengrass." Nate dropped the illusion that had hidden him until that point.
As soon as Nate's illusion dropped, Tracey Davis took out her wand and pointed it at him.
He raised his hands, "I come in peace, Ms Davis."
"You are a Grey."
"What gave it away? The grey hair?" Nate asked.
Tracey asked looking bewildered at her friend's words, "But didn't they betray your family?"
"We left the neutral traditional faction for the neutral progressive faction, it doesn't seem like a betrayal but more a difference in opinion. Ms Davis, a piece of advice, if you have someone at wand point-"
The wand that had been pointing at Nate's face was snatched from Tracey's hand by a wandless summoning charm and now was pointing between her eyebrows as it floated in the air.
"-hex first, ask questions later." Nate finished.
Daphne took out her wand from her robe and cast a petrification hex on Nate. The curse passed through him as if he wasn't there.
"We live in a magical world, Daphne, your eyes often tell you lies." The Nate that had been sitting in front of Davis disappeared and another appeared beside her, sitting casually with one leg above another with a smug look on his face, he asked, "So want to put those wands down?"
Seeing them nod and Daphne comply, Nate returned Davis' wand back to her.
"I am Nate Alexander-Irene Grey, son to Irene Grey, grandson to William Grey who was the previous faction leader of your father's faction, we shifted to the more progressive faction in the Wizengamot during the civil war." seeing them nod, he continued, "Even after the shift in our political leaning, your father and my family have remained friends. I hope that continues."
"I can understand that, but the rest of Slytherin won't," Daphne said, her cold face back and the previous apprehension on her face absent.
"So sure of your future house, huh? Well, both of you are Slytherins that much I can see, I mean the way Ms Davis dealt with Malfoy was a treat to watch. And I can agree, neither the political factions nor the Slytherins would be pleased, but why would they ever find out? I will help you if you have trouble with any of your housemates, no questions asked. Discreetly, of course."
"Thank you?" She nodded.
"What about me? Will you be my friend too? Or only Daphne gets such a different treatment, Mr Grey?" Tracey asked smiling.
"That is why you are the type of Slytherin that is the most dangerous, a polite smile goes further than a sneer in getting in the good graces of others. I have a question though Tracey and Daphne, who taught you these spells? Ms Davis here, reacted too fast for someone your age."
"You are just two years older than us." Daphne deadpanned while Tracey grinned and added, "My father taught us both, Mr Greengrass asked dad since I am a half-blood and knowing a hex or two never hurts."
"Wise choice. See you two later then." Nate was about to leave when he heard Daphne asking, "What house are you in?"
Nate said without turning, "Gryffindor", and grinned at the intake of breath.
Nate moved slowly towards the cabin he took every year and saw it was occupied by a group of Ravenclaws.
"I need to find the Weasleys." Nate sighed suddenly feeling tired.
