Happiness washed over Olivia as Pamela and Kevin Burton held Ella in their arms. They finally had their daughter back. Moments like these reminded Olivia that hope did still exist in this cruel world. Her joy, however, was short-lived. Mackenzie watched the family reunion unraveling in front of her with hurt-filled eyes. The Burtons completely ignored her existence. Olivia knew that feeling all too well. "Call me if you need me" were the words she mouthed to Mack as she reluctantly walked out the door.

Mackenzie ran after her. "Livia! Please don't go! You can't leave me here with them! Now that they have Ella back, they won't want me anymore, not that they ever did..."

Olivia turned around, dropped to her knees on to the hallway carpet, and pulled Mackenzie to her in a failed attempt to calm the little girl down. "Sweetheart, you know that isn't true."

Mackenzie ripped herself away from Olivia.

"No! You know it is true! They don't love me. They only picked me because I look like her. They haven't even noticed that I left."

"Honey, your parents are just overwhelmed right now. Ella has been missing for such a long time and they never thought they'd see her again. Of course they love her, but they love you too."

"Whatever. You know I'm right. I know they're going to send me back."

"Give things a chance to calm down, Mack. They aren't going to send you anywhere. If you need to talk, you know my number. Go be with your family."

"They are not my family. I don't have a family. You wouldn't understand..."

Mackenzie was sobbing now. Olivia didn't know what to say, so she held out her arms and Mack fell into them. After several minutes, her cries subsided. She didn't waste much time until she tried Olivia again.

"Can I please just stay with you? Just for one night? They want to be with Ella and I don't want to be alone. I bet you don't want to be alone, either."

Olivia didn't want to admit it to herself, but she knew Mack was right. She didn't want to be alone. She also knew Mackenzie's parents wouldn't be paying her one bit of attention until Ella got settled in.

"All right, but only if your parents say yes. Just for tonight."

"Thank you, thank you!"

Olivia had never seen her happier. The two of them got off the floor and Olivia walked back into the living room while Mackenzie waited in the hallway.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Burton? Would it be okay with you if Mackenzie stayed with me tonight?"

"Wh.. oh yeah, her. Keep her longer if you want."

She couldn't believe Pamela had forgotten about her. Maybe Mackenzie was right... No, that isn't possible. That's ridiculous. Olivia tried to convince herself that Mrs. Burton was just caught up in the moment.

"Okay, Mack. Go grab what you need."

Mackenzie ran into her room, packed faster than Olivia thought possible, and ran back in to the hallway without the Burtons even noticing.

"I'm ready Liv!"

She had the biggest smile on her face.

"Well, let's get going."

Olivia radiated happiness.

This is what they both needed.
