Chapter twenty-six:
There has been silence for moments "But I still don't get it. Why aren't I like the others? I was dumped just like the others so why aren't I all ripped apart and mangled? Why am I not dead" Felicity looks around the faces around her.
Ianto glances at Jack "Not sure, I'm assuming you were the last one to be operated on before me. He must have perfected the techniques to preserve the body but when you didn't wake up…he thought he had failed again"
Jack looks sick "I don't understand, I'm here now seeing what I've done. I've seen those bodies. So why wouldn't I stop this from happening and not make them?"
Ianto sighs this "For starters we are in an established timeline now, time is on a fixed course nothing is magically going to change just because you've seen it Jack" he looks from the mortuary freezers, to Felicity and back to Jack. "And something happens to you in the future, I'm not sure what because you always refused to talk about it but something happens in your future so bad that you were desperate to bring back the dead."
Felicity stands up "And made them, made me" she rubs a hand over her face "But I don't understand I remember leaving Thames House. I remember being outside and walking away. But I do remember being on the ground. we couldn't get out and I remember not being able to breathe I can remember choking to death. How can I remember getting out alive and lying on the floor dying?" she looks at Ianto "Both those memories feel real"
Ianto nods "Because you were traumatised. You woke up six months ago in that warehouse and one of the only memories you had was of dying on the floor in Thames House. So, you made up a new story for yourself." He gives her a sad smile "One where you got up and out of there. You decided to carry on with your life" he touches her arm; she looks down at his hand but she doesn't move away from him.
The Colonel clears his throat "Mr. Jones, might we get back to the stuff with the Rift, your telling me these bodies are opening and closing the rift?"
Ianto drops his hand from Felicity "Yes, but it's more of a theory than solid fact. If the rift energy revived their minds its possible that they have become part of the rift in someway"
"Including me?" Felicity asks.
"Including you" Ianto agrees turning to face her "I'd really like it if I could connect to your mind, Felicity"
She steps back shaking her head.
"It would help me know how to fix this" Ianto says imploringly. She shakes her head again looking at Jordon for comfort.
He joins her side and takes hold of her hand "Leave her alone Ianto" Ianto puts his heads up in surrender.
The Colonel marches forward "I'll have to report all of this higher up, UNIT is taking charge from now on" he goes to move past Jack and Ianto to reach the mortuary exit but Ianto holds him back by the chest.
"Actually, I think you'll release the bodies to my care and let all of us to head back to Felicity's Torchwood base…alone" he smiles "You and your soldiers will stay away. All of you will forget you ever saw me and I'll fix the problems with the rift without UNIT"
The Colonel lets out a laugh "I'm amused you think that you can make any demands here Ianto Jones" he states attempting to step around Ianto and leave.
Ianto lets him move for the door before speaking again "I guess I'll just have to tell them the truth then"
The Colonel turns back around and frowns "Tell who the truth?" he demands.
Ianto points back to the mortuary freezers "Those five in there are asleep for now, I could wake them up and tell them. Tell them they have the power to rip a hole in the world with just their heads" he glares "So as I say you will forget you ever saw me, Ianto Jones and let us all walk out of here."
The Colonel looks worried but defiant "Or I could just shoot you now seeing as your already dead on this planet, destroy those bodies and hold Felicity as a prisoner of UNIT in order to monitor and investigate her effect on the rift activity ourselves"
Ianto smiles "You see I thought you might say that Colonel" he turns his head to the side as he looks at Colonel Matthews "Which is why I've been erasing you from every database I can find, all records of Colonel Derek Matthews are disappearing from Earth records as we speak"
The Colonel has gone red.
"Digital birth certificate, marriage certificate…Oops, there goes your bank account" Ianto says smiling.
He steps forward putting his hands on his hips "Release those bodies inside some nice portable freezers and let us all go back to Felicity's house" he smiles wider "Do all of that and I'll bring you digitally back to life, Colonel" Ianto pauses "Oh, whilst I think of it how quickly can you build Felicity a lift for her base?"
"With our resources…very quickly" Robert Hengraves says from the back of the room.
The Colonel pulls out his phone swearing when he sees everything has been deleted from it "Ianto Jones, your free to go"
