Chapter 4 ~ Unlawful Sentencing - Detention With An Idiot
"See, those Slytherins are no good. Talking back to the professor-" Hermione's lecture got cut off by something cold splashing into her face. She let out a scoff as she glared at the black-haired girl sitting next to her. "Those are my friends you are talking about!" She yelled. Slamming her hands on the table as she got up. Storming over to where Odd and Ulrich were sitting, she squished herself between them, giving Odd Whiplash as his fork of pasta when from entering his mouth to poking his ear. He let out a sad whine as most of the pasta also dropped off the fork. Ulrich chuckled and handed him a napkin. Yumi's hard frown also softened as she apologized, "Sorry Odd, she's just so . . . so infuriating! She's like Sissy!"
Ulrich piped up, "Don't look now but Lady-Killer is on his way over." Right after he finished that sentence, William made it to the other side of the Great Hall, and approached the three other Lyoko Warriors. "Hey guys. That DADA professor really did a number on Aelita's temper. I thought she might try and blast him for sure."
~Professor Snapes' Office~
Snape stalked behind Aelita and Harry with a scowl across his face. Aelita had her head down, eyes facing the floor, while Harry sat in his chair swinging his legs, with a deadpan stare at the wall.
Menacingly stating, "I thought I made it perfectly clear during the House Meeting last night what would have happened if you were assigned a detention from anyone at Hogwarts. Both of you will report to Professor Lockhart's office at 8 pm tomorrow evening, and every evening for the rest of the week. In addition, consider your weekend booked - you will be assisting me in cleaning the cauldron's and re-organizing the storage room. Do you have anything to explain for yourselves?"
Harry drolled out, "I only spoke the truth - even you admitted that he was an idiot and a fraud when you found out he was teaching DADA! Why are we being punished if it's true?" Snape spun around so fast, stalking up to Harry's form, "Just because I agree with your sentiments, does not give you the right to disrespect a staff member at Hogwarts - Harrison James Potter-Prince, you are grounded for the month with that cheek. Miss Stones, do you have anything to add?"
Unable to stop herself, she replied, "What do you mean grounded? He is already on the ground?" Snape's glare got harsher as Harry began laughing. It was only when Aelita's confused glances got more distressed that the professor realized that she was not comprehending what the word ment, and not being sarcastic.
"Means Potter won't be going anywhere for the next month without my prior approval." Snape sneered at his godson, driving home his original point. Harry rolled his eyes with a huff. Snape loved to use the 'godparent' card. Aeltia softly remarked, "oh … are all professors allowed to ground a student?"
"Just the ones that like to make it known who the other vile and rambunctious professors and students are really messing with," Harry remarked, the snark and imitation heavy in his voice. Aelita gave him another confused look, and he shook his head. "Detention is the closest to being grounded you'll have to worry about getting, Miss Stones. Should any of the other professors try that, you come to me." Snape sneered. He was only allowed the joy of grounding someone because he and Harry were related, and none of the other professors at the school would even dare deny it or try grounding a student themselves. Let alone try grounding Harry or one of his friends. There would be hell to pay, and Snape would make sure they paid it two-fold.
With a nod and a soft smile from the girl, Snape dismissed both students with a reminder that their detention with Lockhart started in the morrow. Harry led Aelita back to the Slytherin common room, before wishing her good night, and sent her off to the girls' dorm. As he walked into his, he was surrounded by four boys - Draco, Blaise, Theo, and William. With a dramatic sigh, he regaled the meeting, "Oh it was just awful, now we both have detention with Snape for the whole month in addition to Lockhart's week-long torture. He also grounded me. Hey William, what was your and Aelita's home life like? She was very confused on some of the punishments that Snape passed out?"
Willaim was silent as the boys all looked at him for the answer. He sighed, before replying, "Aeltia . . . Aeltia is a special case. For the majority of her life, she was in hiding with her father from foreign government agents. They had taken her mother when she was like 6 or 7, sending her father into a constant panic. They kind of vanished for about 4 years before she enrolled in Kadic. I didn't meet her until about half a year after that. You would have to ask her friends for more information, but I wouldn't be too inquiring about it - they get very defensive of her." William took a pause before adding on with a laugh, "I mean they barely trust me around her - not that I blame them really…" He trailed off as he began noticing the guarded looks from Draco and Harry. Trying to cover his slip-up, he stammered out, "Nothing bad! I just got too in over my head over something and kind of stretched the trust of her friends a little too thin."
Draco chimed in, "We'll be keeping an eye on you, but for now, it's time for lights out. Quickly, before Snape gives the rest of us all a month-long detention." With that thought, the boys went back to their beds and turned out the lights.
Aelita in the girl's dorm closed the curtains around her bed and clutched Mr. Puck to her chest as she tried to get some sleep. Hoping for once there would be no nightmares.
Morning in the Great Hall ~ Tuesday
To say that anyone had slept well, or was just in a good mood in general, would be a lie. Jeremy had stayed up way past curfew working on his ten foot essay. Something that Neville had eventually given up on all together. Accepting his grizzly fate with Snape. Ulrich and Odd had to listen to the constant arguing between their dorm mates Ron and Seamus. Which had quickly morphed into a combination of complaining about their failing lovelives, to the quote on quote, 'corruption' of the Boy Who Lived. Yumi had not only been stuck in detention with the head of RavenClaw all night, but when she finally got back to her dorm, Hermione was there primed and waiting to yell at her some more. They also could already tell just from a short glance that Aelita's night hadn't been any better than the last.
At this rate, if her nightmares kept up, they may actually have to tell a professor. Her dreams had been out of hand for over a month, with Aelita getting very minimal sleep as well as Sissy who complained every minute of the day about it.
As for William, well… he naturally slept less and less. Under XANA's control, there was no need for him to sleep. He'd been stripped of his humanity and turned completely digital. No need for sleep if you're just a computer program. Eventually, William realized, he would need sleep once again. For now, though, his body just couldn't stay still long enough and if it did, repeated nightmares of his own would plague his mind.
Tuesday's Classes
Today's set of classes was boring for the Lyoko warriors. They each had a class on Muggle Studies, double sections of History of Magic, Arithmetic [so far only Jeremy and Aelita have flourished in this], and the lecture section on Potions.
Snape was once again going after Neville and Jeremy during the Hufflepuff block, berating their preparation skills on potions. With their level of 'expertise,' he deemed that the full 2nd year Hufflepuff will spend the whole period taking notes on Potion's Lab safety and the Ingredient prep remedial course. To make matters even worse, he had not managed to forget about the essay and had demanded to see what they had completed so far of it. Jeremy feeling a little easy about the fact he at least started on the assignment, could only sit with a feeling of dread as Neville offered up an excuse for why he didn't start it.
At the same time, the Gryffindors and Slytherins were met with a class of Muggle Studies. Ulrich, Odd, William, and Aelita had managed to get seats as close to each other as possible. Baring the giant walkway between their desks. Ulrich and Odd quickly fell asleep in the face of today's lesson. They had a guest teacher that day, Arthur Weasley. Who apparently worked with some Ministry of magic to find and decipher the use of muggle objects. The object he decided to teach the class about. Rubber Duckies. The idea initially got the quartet to laugh, but eventually lost Ulrich and Odd's attention. It did however, raise Aelita's attention as the cute, squishy, little duckies confused her on their use as well. And no matter how many times she asked William about it, he couldn't give her an answer.
On the other side of the massive school sat Yumi. Smack dab in the middle of a History class. The History of magic no less. It was the only time she had wished Hermione was in the same class as her. That way she could at least look over her shoulder at her notes. Or at least listen to her incessant mumbling during class that somehow made more sense than the actual teachers did. But no. Yumi was alone and had no idea what the hell she was doing, and honestly, she doubted she would ever truly know what was going on.
An Idiot's Version of Detention
That evening, Harry and Aelita both solemnly walked up to the DADA professor's office dreading teh punishment he was about to dish out. With a quick rap of the door, it swung open in a flourish as Lockhart exclaimed, "Welcome! You are right on time - I will be needing assistance in signing some of my fan mail - Mr. Potter this will give you practice for the future. While you can try your hand at -" He pulls a cord from a wall, making the curtain fall - causing Aelita and Harry to sweat-droop at the plethora of books stacked, "signing autographs for my new book release: Lochkhart's Laments ~ A tell-all guide of the sorrows of being Me!"
Quickly shoving the mentioned children to their assigned section of the room, handing both their own quill to write, they were instructed to being signing. Aelita stamered, "But Mr. Lockhart sir, wouldn't we be forging your signature? Isn't that illegal like in the normal- I mean muggle world?"
Lockhart justed laughed it off, "Oh, don't you worry ma chére, no one will ever be able to tell, I have many variations of writing my signature and autograph. Don't worry I will protect you from the law."
Feeling creeped out by the pet name, Aelita focused on the task at hand. Writing with a quill was awful. Print was out of the questions, so she had to use cursive. It got to the point where her letters no longer looked like letter or words and was just a grumbled mess. Aeltia grumbled under hear breath, at the absurdity of this punishment, glances ever so often at her fellow Slytherin.
Resuming the task at hand, she started writing nonsense: "to my loyal fans, love an idiot", "to the dunderhead who thought to buy this book", "I am a ", "#Iwearawig", and other nonsense. It was getting later and later in the evening. Feeling her 9th yawn, she was awoken from her drowsed state by Harry abruptly stating, "Did you hear that?!"
Glancing curiously at him, she shock her head no, and asked what it was she was suppose to have heard? Harry with a wounded look told her in whispers as Lockhart had knodded off about 30 minutes ago, "It said … come to me…come to me so i can kill you…let me kill you…blood"
Freaked out by her friend, she said, "Harry, I didn't hear anything, are you sure you just didn't image it?" Harry, who looked as equally freaked out as Aelita did, put his hands on her shoulders, "Trust me. When I say I heard something, I heard something and whatever it is. Is. Not. Good." He warned.
Uncaring about not being dismissed from detention, the duo gathered their things and sprinted from the classroom, hoping to quickly make it to the Slytherin common room before another person saw them out past curfew. Just barely making it into the common rooms before their house ghost the Bloody Barron spotted them in the hallway, they each said good night before retiring to their respective rooms.
Upon reaching her room, Aelita noticed the other girls gossiping about boys in their year or older, while also giving her sneers for her half-blood status. Swallowing a lump in her throat, Aelita climbed into bed, holding back tears of frustration, and closing the curtains. Snatching Mr. Puk she layed down and tried to fall asleep.
In the boys dormitory, Harry was bombarded by Draco and William wondering how the detention went.
"The git had us answering his fan mail and signing his newest book - everytime I learn more and more about him, I can't help but wonder how much more fraudulent he could get. But I just hope we don't have to have another detention with him - our sanity would not last."
Debating whether to tell William or not, Harry eventually commented, "Dray . . . I was hearing things again. They kept saying come to me let me kill you. Aelita couldn't hear it, and Lockhart was asleep." Draco's eyes widened and William looked between the two of them both concerned but also confused. "I'll ask my father about this. Try sleeping on it for now, and we'll talk to Professor Snape about it in the morning." Draco responded. In an instant, it suddenly became clear to William that his friends could all be in danger. William pointed to the door behind him, "Are you sure you don't just want to tell him now?"
Harry and Draco looked at each other and then to William as though he was crazy. "Do you want to get detention with Snape for waking him up?" William shook his head, muttering something about the two under his breath as he walked off. Just barely hearing Harry add onto the conversation with, "Oh yeah. Don't worry about Aelita. I made sure she made it safely to her room." As William climbed into bed, Harry and Draco heard him mutter, "Jeremy is going to kill me if anything happens to Aelita…great"
