Day 27: Joka
Joka! The right hand man of the Dark King, Ghadius, whose main goal is to resurrect Nahatomb to plunge all of Phantomile into nightmares and darkness.
Throughout the game, Joka has always been there to find a way to hinder your progress as you venture throughout Phantomile, and without a doubt the worst thing he's done in the game is murder Klonoa's grandfather. With so much hatred building up for this guy, you can bet that when we get to the end of Coronia, where Joka is the boss fight, Klonoa and the player are more than ready to take this bastard down!
The fight against Joka starts out simple enough. The fight takes place on these platforms that come together to form of a ring. In the middle of this ring, Joka is walking towards the platforms so he can hit you with his fists. Your goal in this fight is to grab a Moo and throw it at Joka to do damage. You need to time your throws just right, however, as they can bounce off of Joka's fists if they hit them instead of Joka himself.
Do this three more times, and Joka will kick things up a notch.
Joka will walk back to the middle of the ring and transform into a monster while the Moos turn into the unkillable Eclipses. At this point, the platforms that form the ring will change color. They'll either stay yellow, or turn either green or blue It's your job to walk on these platforms and turn them all back to yellow. Furthermore, when you step on a blue platform, it'll turn to green, and stepping on a green platform will turn it back to yellow. As you do this, you need to avoid the Eclipses as well as Monster Joka's wing attacks that'll come in the form of a spin move or slamming his wings down on the platforms.
Once all of the platforms have become yellow again, Joka will turn back to normal, the Eclipses will turn into Moos again, and the fight will proceed as normal.
Like before, you need to grab Moos to throw at Joka, only now he'll move a bit faster, and start jumping, making it a bit tougher to land your mark. When Monster Joka returns, more platforms will also change color, and some of them will even turn purple, which will turn to blue when you step on it, then green, then yellow.
After taking enough hits, Joka will fall, and the fight is over.
Joka is notably easier than some of the previous bosses in the marathon, but I mainly enjoy it for its fun factor, and it's incredibly satisfying to see this clown-faced freak finally bit the dust after everything he's done!
Never trust a clown, kids…especially this one!
