Now that my dad and I made up…or I should say straightened things out, things were slowly going back to normal. Maybe not normal but better than they were before. We left that neighborhood and moved on to somewhere else like we always do. I was sad about leaving my mom's grave behind, but I understood that we couldn't stay there anymore. We had to leave. My dad took Carl and I to her grave before leaving so the three of us could say our goodbyes. I knew she wasn't really there, that her spirit was somewhere else but that was all that was left. It gave us some comfort…I guess.

Anyway, things were better than they were before. I took a liking to Daryl and began following him around. It was easy to tell that sometimes he got annoyed with me, but I could tell that he liked me too. I wanted him to be my best friend.

We settled into another neighborhood that was pretty far from the last one. This one was a lot bigger, which was better because it would be easier to hide in case there was bad people around. We were also a little closer to the river and there was a nice woodsy area right across from it. Daryl said it would be good for hunting.

Speaking of Daryl, the one day, he was leaving to go hunting. I perked up a little because I had been wanting to go hunting with him some time, I've never hunted before and wanted to see what it was like. So, I chased after him.

"Hey, where you going?" I said and ran in front of him.

"I'mma go hunt." He said without stopping.

I walked along side him. "Can I come?"

He stopped now. "Nah. Not this time, kid." He shook his head.

I gave him a questioningly look. "Why?"

"…I don't thank yer dad would—

"He wouldn't care." I cut him off. "He'd be fine knowing that I'm with you. Come on, please."

"Nah." He started walking again. I followed him.

"I'll be fine. I can kill walkers now." I pointed out.

Daryl sighed and stopped again. "Look, it's good that ya can kill walkers, but you don't know nothin' about huntin'." He started walking again. "Sorry, kid. No."

"Mm." I stayed back and pouted for a moment. Then, I suddenly got an idea. I ran to catch up with him. "I may not know anything about killing animals, but I know about animals." I said happily. Daryl sighed. "Did you know that raccoons scream while they're doing it?" I grinned. Daryl stopped dead in his tracks and just stared at me. "What?" I asked him. "You didn't know that?"

He looked a little bit angry now. "Yeah, I knew that. But how do you know about that?"

I smiled. "I saw two of them in my backyard one time—

"No, I mean…how do you know about that?"

I blinked a few times in confusion and it took me a second to realize what he meant. "Oh." I finally said and waved him off. "I'm thirteen not seven." I said it like he was stupid and gave him a stupid look. "Also, my cousin, Frankie, told me everything when I was like nine."

Daryl finally started walking again but slower than before. I continued to follow him. We started down the steep hill now. "Hm." He raised his eyebrows. "And how old was Frankie?"

I had to think for a minute. "Thirteen." I said happily.

Daryl scoffed but didn't say anything.

"So, how are we getting across the river?" I asked him.

He stopped again and looked at me. "Abby, I already told ya. Ya ain't comin' with me." He spoke more sharply now. "Now get back to the house before I gotta tell yer dad."

I crossed my arms over my chest and stared at him angrily.

"Go." He pointed. "I ain't movin' from this spot til I see ya headin' back." He shook his head.

I was pretty annoyed and disappointed because I really wanted to go hunting with him, but I knew I really didn't have a choice. If I didn't go, then Daryl would tell my dad and he would be mad at me. So, I huffed and started walking angrily back to the house.

I was pissed that he was treating me like a kid. I mean…I know I'm young and don't have a lot of experience but…how am I supposed to learn these things if no one is going to teach me? I'm thirteen right now almost fourteen. It's a weird age because I'm too old for kid stuff but too young for adult stuff. I don't know what I'm supposed to do.

"I hate being thirteen." I mumbled.

I was back home sulking while looking over the books that we had to read. I could hear my dad talking to Carol and Michonne but wasn't listening to their conversation. Speaking of Michonne, she's really come around. She's one of us now.

The three of them stopped talking and kind of walked off. Michonne walked into the living room where my brother and I were.

"Hey, wanna play Candyland?" Carl asked me.

I scowled at him. "That's little kid stuff." I turned away. I knew I probably hurt his feelings, but I was angry right then and when I'm angry, I can be pretty hurtful.

"I'll play with you." Michonne said to my brother.

"Really?" Carl perked up.

"Yeah, come on, let's go outside on the back porch. It's a nice day." Those two left and went outside. I was alone now.

Not for long though. My dad walked into the room now, he was eating a bowl of oatmeal or something. I decided to pester him about going out more now. Now that I can kill walkers, he doesn't really have an excuse to not let me go.

"Daddy?" I turned to him. "I wanna go on a run."

He stared at me. "Why? What do you need?"

"No, I mean…I wanna start going on runs."

My dad sighed and put his spoon in the bowl. "Abby, we talked about this—

"Yeah, I know…but that was before. I can kill walkers now."

He sighed again but longer this time. "Maybe one day."

"Yeah, you keep sayin' that…" I mumbled.

"What?" He asked me.

"Nothing." I said quickly. "Where are Glenn and Maggie?" I figured I could go hangout with them for a little.

My dad hesitated to answer my question. "…they're over at their house but…they were talking about going on a run."

I perked up at what he just told me. "Can I go with—

"No, you can't go with them." He cut me off like he knew I was going to ask.

"Come on, dad." I begged. "I'll be fine."

"Abby." He sighed. I could tell he was getting frustrated. "No. Okay, I don't want you out there yet."

Now I was getting frustrated. I decided to speak my thoughts about no one teaching me things from earlier to him. "But how am I supposed to—

"Abigail." He gave me a stern look. "Is this gonna be an issue?"

I looked down and crossed my arms over my chest. My dad always says that to me when he's done with the conversation. "No."

He hesitated, then finally nodded. "Good." He looked down at his bowl of food. "Now, have some of my oatmeal." He got a spoonful then held the spoon to my mouth.

I scowled at him and turned my head away. "No." I said angrily. "Don't try to feed me like a kid."

He gave me an amused look. "You were fine with it last night."

My face flushed with anger. Sometimes my dad and I will sit together and if he's eating something, he'll share it with me and he usually just feeds me a bite. We were doing that just last night with a chocolate cake that Carol made. "Well, not anymore." I huffed and walked out of the room. I heard my dad laugh at me. It makes me mad that he doesn't take me seriously.

That thought just gave me an idea. I know a way that I can make him take me seriously. Glancing out the window, I saw Glenn and Maggie putting their bags in the car to go on their run. Just in time.

I looked in the direction of the other room, then back outside. I am going on that run, dad. Hehe. I ran outside to catch them.

"Hey, what are you guys doing?" I pretended to not know.

"Gettin' ready to go on a run." Maggie smiled at me.

I smiled back. "Can I come?"

They stopped and shared a look. Glenn said, "I don't think your dad would…"

I almost rolled my eyes. There was that sentence again. "It's okay. I already asked him. He said I could."

They seemed to hesitate. "You sure?" Glenn said again.

"Yeah." I nodded. "If you don't believe me, just go asked him—oh wait, he and Michonne were talking about going to get water. They probably left already." I was slick and made up a lie.

Maggie gave me a weird look. "We just got water."

Shit. My expression changed. "Oh. Well, then…they must have been doing something else." I let out a small laugh.

They still seemed reluctant. "Well," Glenn started, "if your dad said it's okay…"

"Cool." I hopped in the back seat, then they got in as well and we headed off.

"Okay." Glenn said once we were sure the store was safe. We banged on the front windows and waited to see how many walkers would come. We waited five minutes and there was only two so it was time to go in now.

Glenn and Maggie took care of the two walkers, I wanted to kill one but I only have a gun because I'm not strong enough yet to stab a walker in the head. And I if used my gun, the sound could draw more. So, I just let them handle them.

"Okay." Glenn pulled the list out of his pocket. "You take half," he said to Maggie and ripped the paper in half handing it to her, "and I'll do the other." He glanced down at me. "Abby, make sure you stay with one of us." He nodded at me.

"Okay." I shrugged. I decided to follow Glenn. Maggie and Glenn were like my older siblings. Maggie was more bossy where as Glenn was more…easy-going. So, I went with him.

"So, what's on the list?" I asked him. "What can I look for?"

"Just look around and grab anything that's useful." He told me.

I gave him a stupid look. "I know but…if there's a list then that means there's specific things that we need."

"Just look for anything medical."

"Okay." I said. "You mean like band-aids and stuff?"

"Yup."

I looked up at the aisle signs. "Medical stuff is over there." I pointed. "So…I'll go look in that aisle." I turned and started over there.

"Wait." Glenn said. I stopped and looked at him. He hesitated, then sighed and looked down. "Okay, fine. Here." He ripped his list again and gave me part of it. I practically grinned from ear to ear. "Just…yell if you need help."

"Yes, sir." I saluted him.

I looked around in the aisle I was in. A lot of it was gone already, picked over. However, I managed to find some Advil, bandages and some disinfectant. After that, I didn't go back to Glenn, I continued looking around. I found some food like boxes of rice and mac 'n' cheese and a few other things. I ended up on the opposite end of the store. Then, I even found some other useful items like batteries and a screwdriver.

My bag was pretty much filled after that. I stuffed the batteries in there and I was about to put the screwdriver in when I heard a snarl. My eyes grew wide as a walker came right up behind me. "Ah." It grabbed onto me before I had time to react, I dropped the screwdriver in the process. "Shit!" It had both my arms making me useless. I knew I needed help and freaked out. "Glenn! Maggie!" I yelled. I was struggling to get the walker off me and ended up on the floor with the walker on top of me and wasn't able to pull my gun out. "Maggie! Glenn!" I screamed. They weren't coming, I was really starting to panic. I don't know how much longer I can hold it back.

Just then, my eyes landed on the screwdriver that I dropped. If I can get that maybe I can stab it.

I moved my arms to its throat, it was trying to bite my arm. I needed to be real careful now. Then, I quickly took one arm away and grabbed the screwdriver. I hurriedly stabbed it in the eye. However, I wasn't strong enough to push in it enough to hurt its brain. It was still trying to get me. "Shit!" I don't think I can hold it back anymore.

Just then, the walker was lifted off me and I saw Glenn stab it. It was over. I'm still alive.

I sat up still breathing heavily. "Are you alright?" He asked me. Maggie was there too. I just nodded, then slowly stood up. My nerves were all over the place making me feel sick, so I bent over and vomited.

I spit and wiped my mouth on my sleeve, then stood up straight. I finally made eye contact with them but then casted my eyes down because I felt somewhat embarrassed. "Sorry." I said.

"We found enough stuff." Maggie said. "Come on, honey. Let's get you home." She put her hands on my arms and rubbed a little. I grabbed my bag and we headed out to the car.

Narrator's POV

Rick Grimes walked inside the house to wash up after stacking logs in the back yard. He splashed some water on his face to cool down, then wiped his face with a towel after wards. Then, the man walked into the living room to relax for a little. Michonne and Carl were in there as well. The two were talking about comic books. Rick took notice to how the woman and his son were getting along. He was happy to see his son laughing again. He hoped the same for his daughter.

Speaking of her, the man didn't see her in that room or upstairs and wondered where she was. He hadn't seen her since noon.

"Carl?" Rick said to his son. "Where's your sister?"

"I don't know." The young boy shrugged and went back to his comic book.

The father stood up straight and looked towards the dining room out the window.

"Something wrong?" Michonne asked him.

Rick sighed. "I don't know where Abby is."

The woman wasn't sure what to say. "Seems like that girl disappears a lot."

The father raised his eyebrows. "You're tellin' me." He pinched the bridge of his nose. He thought about their last conversation and remembered that she was mad. He hoped that she still wasn't upset with him. Maybe that was why she wasn't around.

Michonne could tell that the man was worried. "Okay." She said. "When was the last time you saw her?"

"This afternoon." He stated. "Glenn and Maggie were planning on going on a run and she asked me if she could go—" The ex cop had a thought that halted his words.

Michonne seemed to think the same and gave the man a look slightly tilting her head. "You don't think she…" The woman trailed off.

Rick sighed. "I really hope not but I have a feeling that's exactly what she did." His expression turned more angry. That girl sometimes. He angrily shook his head.

Abby's POV

The three of us were mainly quiet on our way home. I was feeling pretty bummed. This trip was supposed to prove to everyone that I can handle things and go out there more. But what happened with that walker…I wondered if Glenn and Maggie were going to tell my dad.

I gasped inside right then at the thought of my dad. I left without telling him and what's more, I wasn't even allowed to go on this run. He told me not to. I wonder if he noticed that I was gone. Surely, he had to have. We've been gone for a few hours.

"We found some good stuff." Glenn finally broke the silence.

"We did." Maggie agreed. "Especially Abby."

I stayed quiet. I didn't have anything to say that. I knew they were just trying to make me feel better.

"Hey." Glenn said to me. "Don't worry about what happened with that walker. That could've happened to anyone."

"I know." I said. There was a brief pause. Maybe they won't tell my dad about the walker then. I felt a little bit better now. "I tried…I tried to stab it in the head but I wasn't strong enough."

"It was a good try." Said Glenn.

Maggie looked back and smiled at me. "You'll get there one day. Until then, you got yer gun."

I just nodded. I was feeling a lot better now. And they were right, that could've happened to anyone. I looked down and smiled.

Just then, I noticed that the time in the car was four. I swear when I looked at it before it said eight. "Hey, it's four o' clock." I said. "I swear I just looked and it was eight." I let out a laugh.

"Ha." Glenn also let out a small laugh. "Time flies." He joked.

"Yeah. Or maybe I'm just trippin' balls." I said.

Glenn and Maggie looked at each other and laughed. "Don't say that, Abby." Maggie said while laughing. I laughed too.

We arrived back at the house, Glenn parked the car in front of their house and the three of us began grabbing the bags. I don't think we were there for three minutes when the front door opened then slammed shut. "Abby." I heard my dad's voice. Here it comes. I looked up at him on the stairs, he looked pretty angry. "Where have you been?"

I didn't want to say it in front of Glenn and Maggie so I stayed quiet.

"It's okay, Rick." Glenn said. "She was with us."

"That's what I thought." My dad said. "On a run?"

"Yeah?" Glenn gave him a questioningly look.

"That's funny…because I told you you weren't allowed to go on that run." My dad said looking down at me.

Everyone was quiet for a minute. I had my head down but decided to take a peek at Glenn and Maggie because I could feel their eyes on me. They were both giving me a disbelieving look. It made me feel bad so I looked down guiltily.

"Abby." Glenn said. "You said it was okay." He put his arms out.

"I can't believe you'd do this." Said Maggie.

"I had no idea where you were." My dad said. "I was worried. AND I told you I didn't want you going out there and you didn't listen to me."

I stood there while the three of them scolded me. It was embarrassing me, which was making me mad.

"You're in huge trouble, little girl." My dad said.

My face flushed. He just had to say that last part, didn't he? I crossed my arms over my chest and began walking up the stairs giving my dad an angry look as I passed him. I was about to open the door and go inside, but my dad put his hand on it causing it to close.

"Don't you give me that look." He continued to scold me and embarrass me. "You did something wrong and you know it."

"OPEN the door!" I said slowly but angrily. He was making me really mad.

"Abby, don't talk to yer dad like that." Maggie scolded me.

I looked at her and then back to my dad, then looked down angrily. I knew he could tell how I was feeling. "You just…go up to your room." He spoke calmer and pointed inside.

I went in but instead of going up to my room, I poured my bag out on the table then went outside on the back porch. It was cold outside but I didn't care. I didn't want to be told what to do and I didn't want to be inside with them. I looked down angrily. "Thirteen sucks."

Narrator's POV

The trio were still standing outside after Abby went in. "Rick." Glenn said. "We're really sorry. She told us you said she could go."

"I know. It wasn't your fault." The man nodded. "But next time, come ask me first just in case."

Glenn sighed. "We would've but…" The young man trailed off. He didn't know if he should tell Rick, he didn't want to get Abby in more trouble.

"She told us that you and Michonne left to get water." Maggie said what Glenn couldn't.

"So she lied twice?" It was more of a statement than a question.

"I guess so." Glenn crossed his arms and was leaning on the car. Both he and Maggie were giving Rick the same look. The man nodded and left to go have a talk with his daughter. The truth was, he felt a little bad for embarrassing her. Rick knew how his daughter was, she did something bad and he knew that she felt bad about it. But she didn't know how to deal with being wrong, which resulted in her being angry at everyone.

"Rick, wait." Glenn stopped the older man. He glanced at Maggie before continuing. "I know you didn't want her out there, but if it makes you feel better…she did a pretty good job."

Maggie was giving her boyfriend a look. She didn't understand why he was sticking up for Abby when she did something wrong.

"She found some good stuff and she handled herself." He nodded.

Rick thought for a minute. He was mad at his daughter for defying him, but he was also glad to hear that she was okay and did good out there. It made him think. "Okay." He nodded. "Thanks, for telling me." He went inside after that. He was headed upstairs but stopped. He could see his daughter out the kitchen window on the back porch.

"Why did you do that?" Maggie turned to Glenn. "Now he's gonna think that she can go out there."

"Maggie—

"If we weren't there, that little girl would'a died."

"Maggie, it's okay." He said. "Rick would never let her out there alone. But if she's with another person, I think she'll be fine."

"So, she can just lie like that and get away with it?"

"No, she shouldn't've done that…but Rick will handle it."

The young woman scoffed. "What's he gonna do, tickle her to death?" She knew Rick was soft when it came to Abby and probably nothing would be done about the current situation. Glenn gave her a look, then she picked up her bags and headed inside. The young man put his head down and sighed.

Abby's POV

I was enjoying my alone time out on the porch, but it didn't last long. My dad came out. Of course.

"I told you to go to your room." He said.

I breathed out of my nose angrily, I was mad enough at him. I turned to him and gave him an angry look, then crossed my arms over my chest. "Make me." I said smartly.

My dad gave me an even angrier look and put his face real close to mine. We were glaring at each other. It was starting to become funny to me. I tried to stay mad but couldn't keep a straight face anymore. I giggled. My dad laughed too, then tickled my sides. He also kissed my cheek a few times.

He stood up straight after that then grabbed my face with one hand making me look at him. "Hey." He looked serious. "Don't do that again."

I just nodded with a small smile on my face.

"Come on, let's go eat." He put his hand on my back and guided me inside, then planted a kiss on the top of my head.
