Chapter 2: Sea Life
It has been 6 months. Since Inko, Izuku, and Ochako were turned into mermaids. And a lot had happened during that time.
First off, the Pro Heroes and the police were having little luck in finding Inko, Izuku, and Ochako. Though for Uraraka's parents. It was torture for them. Not knowing, where their daughter was. While Mitsuki was stunned to hear about Inko and Izuku disappearing at the beach. As for Katsuki, well it ended with him being yelled at.
While things were not working out on land. As for Inko, Izuku, and Ochako on the other hand, a lot has happened to them. Since they had become mermaids.
First off, Inko had settled into her new role, as queen of the entire Pacific Ocean, pretty well. And was splitting her duties as a mother and queen, evenly. Even going as far as to adopt Ochako, as her daughter, until she could get Ochako back to her parents.
Izuku on the other hand. Was given a new name, Izuna. Along with adapting to her new position, as the current mermaid princess of the Pacific Ocean. Thankfully she was seeing Luche for any problems while adapting to her new body. Which were surprisingly few. And the only problem was just coming to terms, with that he was a girl now.
As for Ochako. It was a little bit of a rough going for them, at first. When she became worried, that she may not see their parents again. But she was able calmed down by Luche and Inko. Mainly Luche, when she told the 3 of them that they can change between their human and mermaid forms. And Inko took Ochako into her family for the time being. Though the biggest benefit happened when Inko noticed that Ochako of them were helping her daughter adjust to being a girl.
Another thing Inko also noticed, was that over time that Izuna and Ochako were becoming quite close. That she had to call Amelia and Luche to the throne room for a private meeting, to talk about what was going on with them. Which caused the 2 could only just laugh at Inko's question. Causing Inko to gain a confused look. Before they started explaining, that merfolk and humans destined to be with merfolk gain a feeling of wanting to stay with that mermaid or merman. Because of the bond, which merfolk have when they meet their destined lovers. Before they added, why some merfolk wind up with accidental harems. But after Luche and Amelia had looked at the Izuna and Ochako. They added, that the 2 kids seemed to be attracted to each other evenly. But, they reassured Inko, that at their current age. Since the bond mainly shows up, when they hit puberty. The only signs of the bond at their current age would be a need to stay together. Which meant that Inko may be receiving many grandkids in the future. Which caused Inko to start thinking up ways for her to start spoiling her future grandkids. Though it will have to be determined over time if any more will be joining. Which broke Inko out of her dream of spoiling her grandkids. With the thought that there's a possibility that her daughter and Ochako might be having more than one lover in the future. But only time will tell how it will play out. Though Luche had a feeling like she was forgetting something, having to do with the bond and royalty.
Inko was also given the room that they had stayed in for their first night as mermaids. While Izuna and Ochako had gotten their own room to share. Each of them had received a clamshell bed of their own, in their tail colors.
Along with a wardrobe full of all sorts of bras for them to wear. Even though all 3 of them received different mermaid bras that match their tails, that also came in various shades that match their tails. When they didn't need to wear the gowns, they had gotten, when their transformation into mermaids had finished. Which were hung on hangers for them. Since they didn't have any big events coming up, that required for them to be worn.
They also learned some things about their new biology. Such as the fact, merfolk can live for a few centuries. Meaning, that Inko could hold the throne for a century. Before handing it to Izuna.
Along with Inko being given the rundown on the laws. That were already in effect and what else was needed for her to start or during her current reign as queen.
One of the benefits, that also came with being a mermaid, was that they could regain their legs. And only when they were in deep enough water. Would they change back into their mermaid form. So, something as simple as a puddle of water wouldn't be enough to trigger the transformation. Which they learned when Inko asked if it was possible for them to take a bath. Where they found out, that the castle had airtight chambers. Which were used by merfolk to get used to walking with legs or to take baths.
Though Inko did get a shock. When she woke up one morning with a boy's equipment, instead of a girl's, one day. While still looking like a girl herself. When she asked Luche about it. All that she got out of Luche, was her rolling her eyes. And saying that it was normal for mermaids to go through this and that it was temporary. Along with the control needed to control the process. Since they were like some species of fish and amphibians and only let them change equipment needed to have kids. Which allowed mermaids to get other mermaids pregnant, without a merman needing to be present. Though the only way for a mermaid to have a merman child. Was that a merman was needed to get the mermaid pregnant. And since they were mainly a female species, to begin with, and why mermen were so few and far between. Though the example Luche also used was her using a clownfish. Which hatched as a male species. but over time some of the males would turn into females. So, that they can reproduce. Which left Inko with a blush on her face, when she left the room. And when Ochako and Izuna asked why she was blushing. She said, she'll tell them, when they're older.
We currently open the chapter with Izuna, and Ochako sitting on some giant shells that were in the room. While a mermaid was going over merfolk biology. With Izuna taking notes like a mad dog. When Izuna brought up a question, about why merfolk tails were different colors. Along with their swimming fin being different from one another. Since she remembered that she and her mom shared the same tail color and fin. While Ochako had a different color and fin.
Which the mermaid was kind enough to explain. A small bit about genetics. Such as genetic diversity and recessive genetic traits. Before saying that she'll go over this some more in the future. When it was needed for them to learn some more on it or to avoid explaining the birds and the bees to them at their current age.
While Inko on the other hand. She was currently going through a few things. Before she met with the leaders of one of Japan's merfolk colonies.
Now, we currently find Izuna and Ochako heading for lunch. Since they had finished their classes for the day, Inko was currently meeting with a married couple from 1 of Japan's merfolk colonies. Even their daughter came along, with them.
When Ochako accidentally swam into a mermaid around their age, with orange hair, a turquoise tail, and a turquoise swimsuit top. Knocking both of them to the ground.
"Sorry, about that. I did not see, where I was going." Said Ochako, as she got up.
"No, I should be the one saying, I'm sorry. Since I kind of got caught up in my surroundings and wasn't paying attention to where I was swimming." Said the mermaid, as she got up.
"Really? Why is that?" Asked Izumi, curious about the mermaid.
"My mom finds it more comfortable to stay in her human form. So, we turn into our merfolk forms." Said the mermaid,
"Since me and my mom. Spend all of our time in the human world. So, we rarely transform into our mermaid forms." Said the mermaid, from where she was floating. "Oh. Before I forget. My name is Itsuka Kendo." As the introduced herself with a bow.
"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Kendo. My names Ochako Uraraka." Said Ochako, as she gestured to Izuna. "And this is Izuna Midoriya. Who used to be Izuku Midoriya." Though Kendo began to ponder, where she had heard those names.
"Pleasure to meet you." Said Izuna, as she bowed as well. Before a thought hit her. "Do you by any chance of a Quirk and what is it? Since you've been living in the human world." As she gained a curious about Kendo.
"My Quirk is Big Fist. With it, I can enlarge my hands" Said Kendo, as she proceeded to enlarge her hands. Then a thought hit her. "By the way. What are your Quirks?" As she became curious about their Quirks.
"My Quirks, Zero Gravity. Anything I touch with pads on my fingers. I make it defy gravity. And if I bring the pads on both of my fingers. I can return it to normal gravity." Said Ochako, explaining her Quirk. "Though underwater, it's a bit more useless. I think."
"You're right. Zero Gravity is kind of useless down here. Due to the pressure, this deep in the ocean." Said Kendo, before she turned to Izuna. "How about you, Izuna? What's your Quirk."
Before Izuna mumbled something, under her breath. "I'm sorry. What was that?" Said Kendo, before Izuna mumbled it under her breath again. "I'm sorry. Come again?" Now even more curious.
"I'm Quirkless. I don't have a Quirk." Said Izuna, causing both Ochako and Kendo to float back a bit, with their hands covering their mouths. While Izuna swam over to a bench and sat down.
"Izuna. Why didn't you say something sooner?" Asked Ochako, as she swam over to Izuna and took a seat on the same bench. Now concerned for her friend.
"I was afraid, that you'll start picking on me or start treating me differently." Said Izuna, voicing her thoughts. Before she felt someone hug her. Only to look and find out, that it was Ochako hugging her.
"I do not care. What they say. In the time, I have come to know you. Which is from, when we met, to when we became mermaids, to right now. You have become my best friend." Said Ochako, as she continued to hug Izuna. While Izuna began to cry a little.
"How long have they been mermaids?" Thought Kendo, as she watched the 2, as she became curious about Izuna and Ochako.
Eventually, they ended the hug. "Sorry, about that." Said Izuna, with a slight blush. "It's just, that ever since I was told, that I was Quirkless. It's been very hard on both me and my mom."
"Oh, I didn't know, that it was that bad for you 2." Said Kendo, as she floated there. While Ochako could only gain a look of concern for her friend. And the strange feeling, that was telling her not to leave Izuna's side, was not helping the situation.
"It's fine. It's mainly my fault for not telling you guys in the first place." Said Izuna, with a downcast look. Which Ochako and Kendo nodded in understanding where Izuna was going with this. "Would you 2 like to do something?" As Izuna tried to change the subject. Which they silently agreed on.
"I hear the kitchens are making sea cookies today." Said Ochako, as the 2 looked at her. "Want to go and raid kitchens for cookies?" As Kendo and Izuna took 1 look at each other.
"Sure, why not." Said Kendo, as she and Izuna agreed with Ochako. Before they swam off to the kitchen, to get some cookies.
Now we currently find ourselves in the throne room, with Inko sitting on her clamshell throne. Talking with a mermaid and merman couple. Who were the married leaders of one of the colonies from around Japan and the parents of Kendo. When they hear the sound of something crashing and breaking. Followed by the sound of yelling.
"Um, Inko? What's going on?" Asked the mermaid, wondering what was happening.
"If I had to guess. My daughter Izuna, and my adopted daughter Ochako. Along with your daughter. May have decided to raid the kitchen. I also heard that the chefs were making sea cookies today. So, I think it's safe to say. That they're raiding the kitchen for cookies." Said Inko, from where she was sitting. "I'm so sorry that this is happening, right now, Karin."
"Don't worry about it, Inko. I used to take cookies too." Said Karin, reassuring Inko.
"And she still does it too." Said Karin's husband, bringing up his wife's cookie habit and would swipe a few. Whenever she and Kendo came to visit him.
"Aw, come on. Sanji." Said Karin, as she attempted to hide her embarrassment. Which wasn't fooling him one bit.
"It's true, and you know it." Said Sanji, as he fired back at her. Causing Karin to drop her façade, and only sigh and nod her head in defeat, as she turned her head back to Inko.
Meanwhile, we currently find Ochako, Izuna, and Kendo swimming away from the maid that was chasing her. "YOUNG LADIES! GET BACK HERE, THIS MINUTE!" Said the same maid, who usually got dragged into the chase. As she continued to chase them throughout the castle. Until they hid inside one of the giant clamshells and closed the top. Since the maid didn't see them swim into one of the giant clamshells and close the lid, as she continued swimming in the same direction. That she had thought, they had gone.
Once Ochako thought that the coast was clear. She cracked open the lid of the shell to make sure the coast was clear. Before she gave Izuna and Kendo, each a cookie. That she had taken from the cookie jar.
Just as she bit into the cookie. They heard a knock on the shell. Which caused her to open the clamshell. Only to see Amelia floating there "Taking cookies from the cookie jar again, you 2?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and having a smile on her face, that said she wasn't surprised by this happening. While Kendo raised an eyebrow at, that this wasn't their first-time taking cookies
"Morning, Amelia. How are you today? Asked Izuna, as she poked her head out from under the shell.
"Doing well, princess. I was just on my way to see your mother. To pass along a few messages, from one of Japan's merfolk colony leaders. Is coming here on vacation, with her family. When I heard yelling before I noticed the maid swim by. Looking for you 3." Said Amelia, then gestured to the closed shell. "Then I noticed the closed shell. Which made it safe to assume that you 3 were hiding from her." Which got a nod from the 3 of them. "Well, either way. Please try to stay out of trouble." Before she started swimming off to the throne room.
"So, what do you 2 want to do now?" Asked Kendo, as she floated there.
"Well, we could go and get lunch. Like we were originally planning to do. Before we ran into you, Kendo." Said Ochako, to which Izuna nodded in agreement. Before they heard, their stomachs growl.
"How about we go and get lunch?" Said Kendo, to which the 2 agreed. Before they swam off to the dining hall to get lunch.
After trying to make sure that Izuna, Ochako, and Kendo wouldn't cause any more trouble. Amelia had arrived outside the throne room and she had arrived just in time to see Karin and her husband swimming out of the throne room. Where she waited patiently, for them to finish swimming by before they swam inside the throne room.
"Morning, Amelia. Is there something you need?" Said Inko, noticing Amelia. After she had swam into the throne room.
"I'm just passing along a few messages milady." Said Amelia, as she floated in front of Inko. "First off, the Kamaya family. Who are in charge of Japan's southeast colony, are coming here for a family vacation and to talk to you about some things."
"Is there anything else, I can know about the Kamaya family?" Asked Inko, since she wasn't familiar with the name.
"Of course, You're majesty." Said Amelia, as she bowed. "All that I can say is that her granddaughter Nerumi. Is that she's currently a Pro Hero in Japan. Why?" As she became a bit curious about Inko's question.
"I was thinking. Is it possible to pass along a message from me to her granddaughter? That I could meet with her granddaughter and talk with her about something?" Inko asked, wondering if it was possible for the colony's granddaughter to get a message out to Ochako's parents.
"Of course. I'll make sure to pass along the message to her grandmother. To make sure that she knows to come to see me for a private meeting." Said Amelia, as bowed to Inko and turned to leave. So that she could write and send the message out. Before she turned back to Inko to ask a quick question. "Is the reason that you want to meet with her? Does this have to deal with the 3 of you? Disappearing and going missing in Japan?"
"Well, it's mainly about Ochako and her parents." Said Inko, as she sat there. Hoping that Amelia would understand, where Inko was going with it.
"Of course, your majesty. I'll make to send the message out post haste." As Amelia quickly swam out of the room, to get the stuff needed to write the letter, so that she could write down Inko's message and send it out A.S.A.P.
"If this works out and with Nerumi's help. We can come up with something. That will maybe help Ochako. Be able to contact Ochako's parents. Or maybe we can come up with something to help them." Thought Inko, as she thought about Ochako's situation. Then she thought of the situation that Ochako's parents are in. Possibly worried about their daughters. Then a thought hit her, which made her think about it even more. About how much of a positive influence the Ochako had been on her son-turned-daughter. Which made her want to ask if they were willing to become merfolk. So that they can visit their daughters whenever they like. Maybe they could work something out so that they visit each other. If their parents want them to go home with them. Or maybe they'll be willing to move into the castle. So, Izuna and Ochako wouldn't need separate. As Inko put some thought into, how they could solve the problem peacefully.
Eventually, Amelia returned, with the stuff needed to write down the message. So that they can begin writing the letter to let the Kamaya family. Know that Inko was requesting a private meeting with their daughter/granddaughter.
When dinner time did eventually come around. We currently find the 3 sitting down to dinner, with Kendo and her parents in the dining hall.
"So, what did you 2 learn today?" Asked Inko, from where she was sitting, as she started up a conversation with Ochako and Izuna. "Or should we talk about you 2 and your new friend raiding the kitchens today?" Causing Izuna, Ochako, and Kendo to flinch a little. While Karin and her husband could only laugh at the situation of the 3.
"We learned about merfolk biology today." Said Izuna, from where she was sitting. "Or at least the basics of it."
"That does sound interesting." Said Inko, as she looked at Izuna.
"It was until. Izuna asked a question, about why our tail colors are different colors. Along with our fins as well." Said Ochako, as she giggled at Izuna's curiosity and note-taking. "Then we got a small run down on genetic diversity. Then the mermaid said that she would continue. When we were older." Getting a nod from Inko. Since she knew, that some topics would be better learned when they were older.
"So, mom. Did anything happen on your end?" Asked Izuna, from where she sat. Curious about how her mom's day went.
"The same as usual, that comes with being the queen of the Pacific Ocean." Said Inko, answering her daughter's question. "Though I did learn. That is one of the families that manage 1 of Japan's merfolk colonies. Does have a pro hero in the family. That is currently active in Japan. She and her family will be staying here for a week."
While the 3 were talking. Kendo was patiently her turn to speak. When Izuna finally noticed how silent she was. "Um, Kendo? Is there something you need?" Asked Izumi, concerned for her friend.
"I would like to ask, your mom a question." Asked Kendo, wondering if it was okay to ask it.
"Well then, Kendo. Why don't you go ahead and ask it anyway?" Said Inko, causing the 2 to look at her, as the 2 gained a look. That was similar to getting caught red-handed, with their hands in the cookie jar.
"Well. My question is, how long have you 3 been mermaids?" Asked Kendo, with butterflies in her stomach. Since she was unsure how to ask the question, was going to be taken. From where Inko was sitting, she was thinking about how to answer the question.
Taking a deep breath, Inko turned to Karin. "It's fine, Karin. The secret needed to come out at some point." Said Inko, from where she was sitting. Causing Karin to stop, before she could start explaining to Kendo. That it was a very rude question. "And Kendo, to answer, your question. Me, Izuna, and Ochako have only been mermaids for about 6 months. And I took the throne around, around that time as well." Said Inko, which surprised the 3 from the information, that they were hearing. "Though, before we continue the conversation. May we do so after we finish dinner? Since if we continue the conversation, It'll ruin the mood, that we currently have right." Which Karin and her husband mutually agreed. Since the way, Inko was speaking. It was not going to be a fun conversation to have. While Kendo could gain a concerned look at her 2 new friends.
After dinner, Inko, Izuna and Ochako. Lead Kendo, her mother, and her father to the throne room. Where they each took a seat on something. Before Inko started explaining what led up to them becoming mermaids.
"So, you 3 have been mermaids for around 6 months. While you just took the throne around that time as well." Said Karin, surprised by how long they had been mermaids. Which Inko nodded in return.
"It has also been harder on both me and Izuna." Said Inko, as she took a breath and gathered her thoughts. "You see back when Izuna was still my son, Izuku. We found out that he was Quirkless. And that information started taking its toll on both me and him." From there, Inko began explaining, how everything led up to them becoming mermaids.
"Inko, that's horrible. You 2 shouldn't have been through any of that." Said Karin, Inko agreed with her on that. "Will you be going back up to the surface anytime soon?" While Kendo looked at Izuna. Before she became glad that she had become friends with the Izuna. After Izuna had gone through, so much pain.
"Maybe. Though I'm mostly hoping to get in contact with someone named, Nerumi Kayama." Said Inko, as she looked at Ochako. "I'm hoping, that she can help me get in contact with her. Along with requesting her presence for a meeting. Though I'm mainly hoping, that she'll help me with getting in contact, with Ochako's parents. Since she's currently an active pro hero in Japan." Causing Ochako to gain a spark of hope, that there was a possibility of her, seeing her parents again. Before she gained a solemn look on her face. When she realized, that there was a possibility. That there was the possibility, that she might have to leave Izuna and she didn't want to abandon her friend. After learning about the pain, that Izuna and Inko had gone through. "I'm also hoping, to extend an offer for Ochako's parents to become merfolk and I'm hoping that they'll accept the offer. Since Ochako here is my son/daughter's first new friend. Since we found out he was Quirkless and I would like them to stay together." Which caused Ochako to smile at the compliment. Before she gained an even bigger smile at the thought of not having to separate from Izuna.
"You know. There is a chance, that they will not accept your offer." Said Sanji, after he finished on thinking. What Inko was going to offer Ochako's parents. Causing Ochako to gain a downcast look.
"But, that doesn't mean the possibility isn't there. For them to become merfolk and live down here." Said Karin, as she jabbed her elbow into her husband's side. Making him react in pain due to his wife's jab. While attempting to try and cheer up Ochako, after her husband's words had made her start worrying. While Izuna swam over and gave Ochako a hug. Which she returned, by hugging Izuna in return.
"Well, either way. I hope, they accept my offer." Said Inko, as she looked at her daughter and friend, with a look of concern. "Considering, the positive influence, that Ochako has been on me and my daughter. And I do not want to break up this friendship." As Karin and Sanji saw the Izuna and Ochako hugging each other. Before they gained a smile on their faces and nodded.
Meanwhile with Luche. We currently find her going through the medical section of the castle's archives. Currently complaining about, the state of the archives. Since she found the 10th book and scroll, that was in the wrong area of the archive.
Later, that night. We currently find Izuna asleep. While Ochako tossed and turned trying to get comfortable. So, that she can go to sleep. But, the thought of her parents rejecting Inko's offer and her having to leave Izuna was keeping her awake. After struggling to sleep for a bit. She got out of her bed and swam over to Izuna's bed.
"Izuna? Izuna? Are you awake?" Asked Ochako, as she tapped Izuna on the shoulder a few times. Before she got a response from Izuna.
"Ochako? What's going on?" Asked Izuna, as she sat up on her bed and rubbed her eyes. Still a bit asleep.
"Can we talk about some things?" Asked Ochako, as she sat down on Izuna's bed.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Asked Izuna, as she sat down on the side of her bed.
"The truth is, I want to see my parents again. But, I do not want to leave you." Said Ochako, trying to explain what was on her mind.
"Same. You're my first friend. Since I found out, that I was Quirkless." Said Izuna, as she gave Ochako a hug. Which Ochako returned as well. "Is there anything else, that you would like to share with me?" Asked Izuna, as she and Ochako broke the hug. "And It does not matter. I am glad to have you as a friend." Said Izuna, which caused Ochako to hug Izuna and start crying.
Then they heard the door open and saw Inko swim into the room. Causing them to break up the hug, with embarrassment caught on their faces.
"Just to let you 2 know. I came to see, how Ochako was doing." Said Inko, trying to hold back a giggle, from seeing the 2 hugging each other. "Since I noticed, how she was acting from the news. That we were told." Then she turned to Ochako. "Are you feeling better?" Asked Inko, as she turned to Ochako.
"A little. But, it does not help with the feeling. That I do not want to separate from Izuna." Said Ochako, as she looked at Inko. "And can I share something, with you 2? Because it has to do, with the reason. We were at the beach, the day we became mermaids. " As Ochako was unsure how to put it.
"Of course, you can share it with us." Said Inko, as she sat down on Ochako's bed opposite of the 2. "Me and Izumi have accepted you as a member of our family. So, you can share anything with us." As Izuna nodded in agreement.
"Really? Because it involves my family having a bit of a money problem as well." Causing the other 2 to look at her. Before nodding for her to continue. Taking a deep breath. "The reason we were able to go to the beach, the day we became mermaids. Was due to my parents. Being able to save up enough for us to at least spend the day at the beach." Causing Izuna and Inko to be surprised by this.
"Well, then. I hope that your parents accept my offer." Said Inko, who was really hoping, that Ochako's parents accepted, her offer to live down here. So, they wouldn't need separate both Ochako and Izuna. "Maybe living down here. All 3 of you can avoid your money problem. Considering, that I do not want to separate you and Izuna." Inko added, filling Ochako with hope. Maybe her parents will accept the offer. As for Izuna, she didn't know what to think about Ochako's situation.
The next thing Inko knew, was finding herself lying down on the bed, being hugged by Ochako. Who was saying, thank you, over and over again. Followed by Inko returning the hug to Ochako. Before Izuna joined Ochako hugging Inko as well.
Eventually, Inko was able to get the w girls off of her and tucked into the same bed for the night. And Inko was leaving the girl's bedroom. She turned to the bed, that the girls were sleeping in. "Ochako. I really do hope, that your parents accept, my offer to join us down here. So, you and Izuna do not need to seperate from each other." Thought Inko, as she let out a sigh, as looked at the 2. Before closing the door to their bedroom behind her.
Before she decided to go to bed herself. As she got into bed. Inko could only think about whether or not the future will work out for them.
