Chapter 7 – Breaking Point
Thor trashed on the bed.
Cold sweat trickled down his forehead as he silently writhed in the dark. Warmth drowned and left him breathless. Thor opened his eyes to see Loki heavily asleep by his side. He tried to sleep, but found it hard to do so. He heard the door creak open and saw a blur of shadows enter. In his weakness, he was pulled from the bed to his feet and his mouth was covered.
They weren't exactly subtle, and created a noise that would wake anyone up, but Loki stayed asleep. When Thor turned and struggled, rage filled his emotions.
No! Do not hurt him!
His voice was muffled, and his struggles were useless.
One shadow hovered over Loki and held a cloth to his face. Thor figured they dipped the cloth in a brew of toxins for Loki to be unaware of their actions. The light from the door opened Thor's eyes to who the person was. It was a dear friend of his named Tyr. The man was loyal to Asgard and his king, but he was a ruthless and cruel leader. And he had a rough history with Loki's mischief. It made Thor's anger boil when Tyr pulled the cloth away from Loki's lips.
In the darkness of Loki's room, Thor weakly struggled. They locked their arms around him and pulled him away. Thor was pulled to the Bifrost and heard a faint echo in his head.
"Make me proud."
The next thing he knew, he lay on the ground in the dead of the night. His back ached and the soft cold breeze attacked his strangely sensitive skin. He eyed the stars above him and felt the dull ache fade. He sat up and groaned in annoyance. When he looked up, the only light visible in the cold desert was miles away from where he was.
"Heimdall?" Thor muttered. "What trick is this?"
Nothing.
"Open the Bifrost!" He called.
The next thing Thor knew, his body erupted in a backlash of pain. He collapsed to the ground as his body gave way. He was unable to move his limbs, let alone keep his eyes open.
He missed his home, but most of all his little brother.
Before the darkness welcomed him, the image of Loki curled up and in tears was on his mind. The sound of Loki's strained voice reached out to him. It was so full of anguish that Thor hadn't the heart to bear it.
Forgive me, brother.

"Sir, they detected another spike," Coulson voiced. "It's just outside Puente Antiguo."
"Same location?"
"Different locations," He said. "The satellites are useless. Whatever it is, we can't detect it until we search the area. It's messing with all of our equipment."
"Alright," Fury stated. "Keep me updated."
"Barton's on his tail." Natasha informed him. "He's an hour and a half from Coulson's location."
"Has he been briefed?" Coulson asked.
"He has," Fury paused. "I want no funny business, Coulson. Only call if there's a damn emergency, any other event I leave up to you. This is the second 084 found in years. I don't want it getting in the wrong hands."
"Consider it done, Sir."
The line died.
"Sir?" Natasha raised her eyebrows.
"Go," Fury motioned to her. "I'm sure he wants a moment with you."
Natasha left the main deck and headed straight to her room. She closed the door and sat on the small bed before she whipped out her phone and made contact.
oOo
"That was quick."
"No games, Coulson."
"I figured Fury would have wanted this on the down low," Coulson said. "Everything went well with Stark, right?"
"It's clear," Natasha said. "I'm back at the Helicarrier."
"Stark settled everything?"
"It could have gone better."
"So he's in?"
"He's our new consultant." She said dryly.
"Good," Coulson smiled. "We'll need him. He's a good asset."
"How are things on your end?"
"We're still searching." He answered her. "The Agents are already there and I'm still traveling."
"Lola?"
"She needs to sit this one out. It's the desert," He smiled. "But I'm close to the vicinity."
"Good," Natasha sighed before she spoke again. "Coulson, you do know that Fury is giddy about this Initiative, right?" Coulson hummed. "If whatever comes out of that 084 and becomes an asset, will he consider bringing it in?"
"Honestly, I don't know what goes through his mind."
"Fury is a lot of things."
"But he's not stupid."
"Reckless is the word," Natasha voiced. "The file says he's planning to bring Bruce Banner in."
"If it's important, yes."
"And what about Captain America?"
"He's well-adjusted and getting to know the modern world," Coulson said. "I don't think he's a problem. He'll help when it's needed. Same goes with Stark. I doubt we'll need them any time soon. It's just a precaution."
"Copy that." She let it slide. "Watch the road."
Coulson swerved the wheel when he saw he had gotten off the road and headed straight towards a rock. He checked his phone and saw that Natasha had ended the call. He shook his head and smirked at the thought of how she was able to do that. But Coulson knew she wasn't the Black Widow for nothing.

Loki felt subdued and drugged.
"Why in the nine do I feel this way?" He asked himself.
It got worse when he opened his eyes to an empty space beside him. There was a sharp tug in his chest and the memories of last night rushed in. He had thought it was nothing more than a foolish nightmare. He was wrong. Loki felt his heart shatter as he pushed himself up to sit.
"He lied," He thought.
Loki immediately got up to change. He told himself he would not cry and he would seek answers. For instance, what was the reason Thor left so early in the morning without leaving a note?
"If I was Thor, where would I go?"
Loki searched the training grounds but found only Tyr teaching new warriors. Loki hid himself behind the pillar and watched with his curious green eyes.
"Raise your weapon!" Tyr shouted.
The man followed and attacked Tyr, but Tyr ducked and stabbed his sword. The warrior deflected it and spun it back at Tyr, then weaved through to hit again. Tyr was quick as he knocked the man with a swift quick that sent him tumbling to his friends.
"You need to use every part of your body available!" He lectured.
"Aye!" They shouted.
"Everything you have is a weapon!"
Tyr aimed his sword at one of them and attacked. It was quick and the warrior was thrown on his back. Tyr pointed the weapon at the man's throat. "And pay attention! You will not win if your mind is in the clouds!" Loki counted the warriors, and there was still no sign of Thor.
"Where is he?" Loki mumbled.
As if Tyr had heard him, the man turned.
Loki flinched when blue eyes gazed at him with disdain. Loki knew when he was not wanted and walked off. He shook off the thought of the strange sensation he felt from Tyr and headed over to the stables.
He found Thor's horse was still there.
Loki saw one of his servants walking his female black horse, Fylla around the courtyard. So Loki went out back and followed the elf. Once he caught up, the elf eyed his surroundings before he turned to Loki and gave him a nod. The elf knew he did not want formality when no one is around to witness it.
"Erland, have you seen Thor around?" Loki asked hurriedly.
"Not at all."
"You truly have not seen him?"
"No."
"What of the others?"
"Tola and Hrok have not seen Prince Thor either," Erland supplied. "The Prince's room was empty last night. Gellir said word has spread of Prince Thor's punishment for what happened in Jotunheim."
Loki huffed. "What rumors?"
"Oh Loki," Erland shook his head. "I wish you had not asked me. There are quite a few, none of which I think is any good to speak of in your presence. I hope my Prince understands that."
"More grief and sorrow," Loki frowned as he watched Erland pet his horse. "Thank you for taking care of Fylla, Erland."
"She's been wonderful," The elf smiled and turned to him. "You do not look so well, Loki."
"I'm not," Loki bitterly chuckled. "I feel terrible actually."
"Is there any way I might be able to help?"
"No, I am fine."
"Then I wish you luck on your search."
Loki nodded and left Erland to his work. The elf watched as Loki hurried off. Loki's servants liked the second Prince. He wasn't fake as everyone else and he was a kind Prince to them. They never ordered them around like they were slaves. Loki was just and kind and Erland wished everyone else understood that.
Fylla neighed.
Erland snorted. "You Milady are lucky to have a kind owner."
oOo
Thor hated Earth.
He walked through the sweltering heat to get to the small town at the distance. He had only woken an hour and a half ago and left the Bifrost site. He could not stop thinking of Loki. The heat only made it worse, and Thor realized what the Jotun must feel in the sun. Thor needed water and some shelter. Surely there was someone who would help.
Honk. Honk.
Thor turned and a van stopped at his side.
It shocked him that a woman was driving it. She had her arm draped out of the window. She had a smile on her face and as Thor eyed her, he found her beauty mesmerizing. She was intimidating, but there was a softness there that reminded him of his mother, Frigga.
"Hi," She said awkwardly. "How long have you been walking?"
"A while now," Thor mumbled.
"Are you headed to the small town?"
"Aye."
"Do you want a ride?" She asked. "My name is Jane Foster. We're headed there too, so there's no need for you to walk that far to get there."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Jane." He said. "The ride will suffice."
The van door opened to reveal two other passengers. One was old and the other was quite young. The girl smiled and held a cup in her hand while the other monitored a certain device he held. The girl reminded Thor of Loki the way she smiled at him.
"Thank you for the ride," Thor said as he hopped in. "I could not ask for better help."
"You talk weird," Darcy voiced.
"That's Darcy," Jane pointed.
"Hey," She chuckled. "This old man here is Erik."
"Nice to meet you."
"Likewise," Thor tiredly replied.
"So," Darcy smiled. "You're a hot guy, and Jane's really outdone herself."
"Darcy!" Jane scolded.
"From where did you walk?" Erik asked. "You can't be out taking a stroll, are you?"
"Does it matter?" Thor questioned.
"A runaway then?"
"No," He grimaced. "More like thrown away."
"How long have you been out here?" Jane asked, keeping her eyes on the road. "It's really hot outside."
"Since last night."
"Did you see anything in particular happen? Like a bright light?"
"Here she goes," Darcy rolled her eyes.
"What?" Jane frowned.
"She's asking about some anomaly we've been looking at last night and missed." Darcy nudged Thor. "When we got there, we just lost track of it and it disappeared. It messed up our tech too."
"Whose fault was that?" Erik raised his eyebrows.
"I'm sorry if I left the equipment and we had to get it back."
Erik huffed and turned to Thor. "So… uh… what's your name?"
"Thor," He absently said.
Jane and Erik exchanged looks while Darcy eyed Thor. Erik nodded and patted Thor's arm and told him they'll be there in a few minutes. Thor nodded and looked out of the window. Erik went to the front seat and nudged Jane, but she gave a disturbed look that said we'll talk about this later. So Jane gave Thor a smile from the mirror and Darcy poked Thor to make him look at her.
"So," Jane started. "Did you see something?"
"The ground," Thor answered.
"Cut him some slack, Jane." Darcy offered Thor water. "You must be tired."
"Thank you."
Thor accepted the drink and downed it in one go. He hadn't meant to be cruel and rude to them, but he was simply not in the mood to play the Prince. His Father wouldn't allow him back to Asgard and just when he promised his little brother that he would stay with him, it happened too fast. Thor followed Jane and her group back to their little home in town.
He was offered clothes and food for which he was grateful for.
"Feel free to stay a while," Jane said.
"Thank you."
Thor absently walked away and stared out of the glass window and looked into the distance. Erik was suspicious and Jane was simply too comfortable to let it slide. Darcy had come back from printing some documents of the readings they had and what the equipment got.
"I don't trust him," Erik whispered. "He came out of the desert."
"So?" Jane shrugged. "He said he was thrown out. Maybe his friends ditched him and he had to walk on his own. You can never really tell these days. He doesn't look bad, well… not bad at all. You get what I mean, Erik."
"I don't like him."
"Guys?" Darcy walked over to them. "Is it just me or does this look weird?"
She showed them a very blurred picture of a landscape at night. It was the bright line of light, but there was a shadow inside of it.
"What are we staring at?" Erik asked.
"This."
"What exactly are you pointing at, Darcy?" Jane wondered.
"I thought it was a dot." She said happily as she took another printed picture out. "Turns out when I ultra-zoomed it, it wasn't just a dot. Look at how far your equipment went to stretch out and clear the image of that weird white light at the sky."
"Is that?"
"Cool, huh?"
"That's almost human in anatomy," Erik said as he eyed the picture.
It looked like someone falling from the sky wrapped in bright light. It wasn't distinguishable, but it was still a body amidst the ray of lights. It was a breakthrough. Erik looked at Jane, who looked at Darcy and back to Thor, who strode over to them. Jane immediately took the pictures from Darcy and gave them to Erik.
"H-hey!" Jane smiled.
"I thank you for wanting to help me," Thor smiled. "But I think I can manage on my own."
"D-do you have a home?"
"Not here, no."
"Then we'll help you until you get back," She announced. "I don't normally do this, but when you got here you said you did see something last night. It's purely a reason I want to, well sort of help you in a way. I'm an astrophysicist and I look at the stars and make theories about the universe…"
Thor merely nodded.
"And I'm working on the Einstein Rosen Bridge."
"The Bifrost?" Thor asked.
"Bifrost?" Erik raised an eyebrow.
"A connection between areas of space," Thor supplied. "I do not think I will be of much help to you. My brother knows more of this topic than I do."
"It's okay, I can deal."
Thor agreed to stay because he had nowhere else to go. He had no money and he had no contacts. He would no sooner die if he traveled around. He had nothing with him nary a supply or clue as to what would happen. Darcy was more than happy to entertain Thor and take pictures of him, but Erik was not pleased with Jane.
"What were you thinking?"
"I don't know!" Jane said. "I just need more information, if he's part of this then that means…"
"He's crazy!" Erik said as he lifted a book. "He's talking about the Bifrost and his name, Jane. It's all absurd, it's child stories. It's mythology! Norse mythology! He's also talking about his brother!"
"Maybe the heat got to him."
"Jane."
"Don't tell me you're not curious."
"But Jane…"
"I trust him as far as I can throw him, Erik. He has nowhere to go. Let him stay for a few days and we'll see what's going on. Okay?" Jane pleaded. "If it turns out everything he's talking about isn't true, then we'll send him away."
"Fine."
oOo
Loki was suspicious of Thor's absence, had Thor gotten angry when he realized it was Loki who brought the Frost Giants into the vault? Had it been you? He said. Surely Thor would have voiced his anger and not run from it.
Loki didn't know.
He walked through the market and even walked past the taverns. He went to the watch towers and other training grounds, but Thor wasn't there. Loki even figured to embarrassingly head towards the brothels in search of his brother, but Thor was not there either. The place reeked. There were men in the corners drunk with the whores. Others conversed about war and told their tales.
It was noisy.
"What may I do for you, my Prince?" A whore walked towards him.
"Nothing."
"Surely the prince did not come here for nothing." Another whore hugged his arm and it made Loki's face turn red for a moment. "Truly? You do not want us?"
"I am merely looking for Thor."
"Have fun with us, Prince!" She giggled. "We will satisfy you."
"Aye!" The first one hugged his other arm.
"Get off." Loki ordered.
"But Prince…"
Loki did not come there to do whatever they wanted. He was not interested in them at all, nor sex for that matter. They were attractive, but Loki did not want them. He was simply interested in finding where his brother had gone. Loki was not as adventurous as Thor was in that department. Everyone knew that, they simply had no gall to say it to his face.
"The Prince does not want us."
Loki's face turned sour as he pulled away from the two women. They were older than he was and the sooner he walked away from the brothel did Loki's face turn bright red in embarrassment. He had not meant to step in there. He in his whole life had tried to avoid that place.
Norns, he felt pure.
It bore him the name of "Ergi" or "Argr" but it was more inclined to his dalliance with Fvhal and Svad. But those were the only two relationships he had with men and one with Sigyn whom he tried to court, but ended up becoming friends with her instead.
He learned his lesson about love.
It was fleeting.
Fvhal turned out to be a cheat and Svad, turned out to be a sweet man whose life was wasted when he got himself killed in his line of work. Loki learned not to trust love, and when he found Sigyn, he thought he was in love, but he only needed a friend. Amora became his friend after Sigyn, but all she ever spoke about was Thor, and Loki found each moment with her to be a nightmare.
Loki walked away.
He was conflicted to ask Heimdall of Thor's location, but he was too nervous to ask. He searched around the market some more and occasionally went to places Thor liked to be alone in, but there was still no sign of his brother.
"Where in the nine are you?"
He went back to the palace and found the warriors three and Sif in a room together. The door was slightly open and he saw Sif pace about. Fandral lounged on the couch with Volstagg, their backs to him and Hogun sat on the balcony railing.
"What are they doing?" Loki wondered.
He felt the urge to walk away and search for Thor, but it felt important to stay and listen. There were no guards stationed outside, so it was easy for Loki to spy without having to use his Seidr.
"This is his fault," Sif hissed.
"We cannot keep blaming him," Volstagg sighed.
"He is not at fault," Hogun said.
"It's a lie." She crossed her arms. "I do not trust him, Hogun."
"Loki looks as if he does not know!" Fandral raised his ale. "I've seen him looking around."
"Where?"
"At the brothel."
"Why would he be there?"
"I believe he was searching," Fandral said. "I saw him move away from the two women hounding at him. I followed him for a while, but lost track of him. He truly looked sincere, Sif."
"I don't trust him."
"What if he had no hand to it at all?"
"A lie most likely."
"Thor shouldn't have been sent there though," Volstagg sighed. "How do you reckon he'll survive that race?"
"He's Thor." Hogun answered.
"Aye, but…"
Loki pushed the door open and walked inside. The warriors were startled at his presence as Loki stood his ground. Loki wore his sleeveless brown leather coat and a green and gold tunic underneath. A belt held the two together on his waist as he wore his black pants and boots.
"Loki!" Fandral began.
"Where's Thor?" Loki questioned. "Where is he?"
"Do not say that as if you do not know," Sif countered. "You know what your actions had caused."
"I was protecting my brother."
My half-brother.
"Had you not told the guard to call Odin, Thor would not be in this mess."
"What mess?" Loki blinked. "Thor was fine!"
"You truly do not know?" Volstagg gasped.
"Know what?"
"I told you he was not told," Hogun expressed.
"What are you speaking of?"
Loki blinked in confusion as the warriors began to argue with each other. Loki was left standing by the door. He found it all too absurd. Loki felt his body trembled. Loki began to think horrible thoughts. What would happen if the warriors four found out he was Jotun.
They will kill him! They will do so and Thor… Thor would be devastated. The warriors wouldn't care about him. All they cared for was Thor. He was merely the extra. And they would not mind at disposing of him.
"Loki, wait!" Fandral cried out.
But Loki was already gone.
"Care to explain what that was?" He turned to them.
"He hides something," Sif sighed. "He is faking his concern for Thor! He knows Thor had been sent to Midgard. Everyone else thinks it is a mere rumor."
"Rumors said Thor was sent by the King's orders," Hogun said.
"To teach Thor a lesson, I know, but that is not the only rumor spread about. Why treat Thor with such an act and let Loki be treated without punishment. It is better with Loki's guilt, but Thor has not done any wrong. Without Thor nor the All-Father, we are but defenseless."
"The Queen stands as regent," Volstagg said.
"For how long?"
oOo
"I see many have volunteered in war," Laufey was pleased. "That is good. There are so little of us left, haunted by the war. We must be prepared for this. We need to be ready."
"How long do we wait for this traitor?" Byleistr asked.
"As long as need be."
"Why?" Thrym wondered. "Why trust this traitor to come back to us?"
"Because he is our key to gain the casket," Laufey paced. "He, whoever he is, wants something. We will reward him for it. Death will be suitable. And we will bring back our realm with glory. We will survive this."
"Valgard and Styrmir have prepared our people," Helblindi walked into the icy throne room. "Alrik made sure they are prepared for the task waiting at hand."
"Good," the King nodded.
"What else do you wish to know?" Thrym asked. "My King?"
"Are the younglings in each family well fed?"
"They are," Byleistr spoke. "I had checked and asked around. Many of our people are still coping. We are strong and do not fall prey to such misery. There is plenty of food around to last us a few more years."
"What of the destroyed homes?" Laufey stopped and sat on his throne. "Have they all been rebuilt?"
"We are close to rebuilding all of them." Helblindi answered. "It is our lack of supplies."
"I see," He nodded. "Worry not. This war would bring us prosperity."
oOo
Loki stayed in his room.
He hadn't the heart to venture off and look for people just yet. He spent his time eating lunch alone, and by reading a book when afternoon came. But Loki still felt empty inside. He was a Jotun freak, and nobody but his family knew who he really was.
He hated it.
Thor… where could Thor be?
By the time night came, he looked for Frigga everywhere. He ventured to the royal grounds, the kitchen, even the personal maid's chambers where her mother snuck off to sometimes, he even went to Eir to see if Frigga had been helping the healers, but she was nowhere to be found. He even believed she was hiding in the royal garden, but it was nothing more than a place of flowers and an aroma that was heavenly and divine.
"Only one place left to look." Loki sighed.
He opened the door to Odin's chambers and found Frigga seated by Odin's side.
"Mother?"
The light breeze moved the thin white curtains. Odin's bed was covered in soft embroidered pillows and soft silk sheets. The walls and floors were designed with beautiful intricate patterns while a fire from the intricately designed fire ring warmed the room.
"Loki," She turned. "Come in and close the door, dear."
Loki followed and carefully walked over the furry carpet. Frigga stood up and sat them near the door to the balcony on a navy blue and gold couch. Loki stopped himself from crying in front of her. He felt so betrayed and forgotten when he saw Odin.
"I'm sorry."
"You need not be sorry for this, Loki." Frigga patted his hand. "We tried to make his sleep as discreet as possible so no panic would rise. If all the nine found out, we would surely be at war."
"We have Alfheim and Lord Freyr would surely help," Loki mumbled and stared at Odin. "Why is he so pale?"
"Age does us no favors."
Frigga embraced Loki, but Loki sat there unable to return it. Frigga pulled away and held Loki's arm. Loki wondered why everyone felt so warm, warmer than what should be normal. It felt odd how the sensations of his body felt so surreal.
"Thor had told you?"
"Does it change your thoughts if he did?" Loki looked away.
"No," Her voice was soft and sweet. "It won't."
"Why did you lie?"
"Because we do not want to see you get hurt."
"And yet I am."
"Thor and I asked Odin to allow us to speak to you of it when you were just a boy. You had every right to know, but he worries what your thoughts would be had we done so. He did not want you thinking we were enemies. He did not want you to see only a terrible image."
"But by doing so, I am condemned to this life."
"We love you, Loki."
Loki stayed silent as Frigga tightened her hold on his hand.
"We care for you, we love you deeply. Do not think my love for you is a mere illusion, and do not even think that Thor's is either, because nothing has changed. You are Loki and you are more than what you think you are."
"You raised me to be used," Loki whimpered.
"No."
"You did."
"No mother would want a child to be handed out so easily." She said. "It is inhumane. It had been Odin's decision and I refused. However in the course of time, he had gotten soft and had tarnished the idea."
"When…" Loki trembled. "When were you ever going to tell me about my… ability?"
Frigga's eyes widened.
"Is that true?"
"Oh Thor is such a fool," Frigga shook her head.
"You planned to have Thor and I marry, what does the All-Father expect after the union?" Loki questioned. "Of course he would… he would expect grandchildren, yes?"
"Oh dear," Frigga giggled. "I'm sorry, darling. It's just that you have a strange expression on your face. Never, dear! Never would we have gone with the plan. And never will we do so now. You hear me? You have no reason to look so hurt. Thor would never do that to you, and I would not allow it. I did not raise Thor, nor you that way."
"How does it work?"
"What?"
Being able to produce, he wanted to say.
Instead he repeated the question.
"H-how does it work?"
"Thor scared this thought into you, didn't he?" Frigga frowned. "Oh, that foolish boy."
"You know I've had…" Loki played with his sleeves. "And that I… with others... you know that… but I'm not… How?"
"Let us call you lucky and stop there." She answered. "You were still young, but now, you try to be careful won't you? We will not discuss this now. You're young and you'll have plenty of years to think of this. Although I want grandchildren running around the place, I leave that to Thor's right. Thor is already of age, and you are still a young adult."
"What about my Jotun form?" Loki flushed red.
"What of it?"
"What do I look like underneath?"
"No more thoughts on it, Loki." She stood up and kissed his forehead. "Let us not go deeper."
"W-where is Thor?" He changed the topic.
"I thought they've told you."
"No they haven't."
"Thor is in Midgard." Frigga said. "Your Father sent him there to learn his lesson."
"What lesson does he need to learn?" Loki said, uncaring of the sleeping Odin. "Hasn't the he done enough damage to this family? Thor learned his lesson and I never knew that… I never knew that Thor knew things. He's actually wiser than I gave him credit for. The way he spoke last night… he was… he was strange."
Loki wanted to disappear.
"Compassion, patience," Frigga whispered. "And understanding."
"What?"
"He needed to learn those traits. Wise he may be in some aspects, but he would do well to learn more."
"Alright," Loki fisted his clothes and stood up.
"Where are you going, dear?"
"I… I wish you good night, Mother."
He turned to leave.
"Loki wait, there is something your Father and I discussed before he fell asleep." Loki stopped and turned. "Your Father wanted to make amends for what he said to you and ask that you take the crown for now. I would give up my position as regent and appoint you the King of Asgard until he awakens. If all is well until he wakes, he would… he would consider…giving you the throne if Thor is still not ready."
"He means to make Thor and I fight for the position?" He gasped. "That's unfair!"
"That's not it."
"What would Thor say?" Loki bit his lips. "He would hate me for taking what he wanted for so long. I was trained to be Thor's… it made sense… I was to be his advisor, n-not this."
"It's temporary, dear." Frigga sighed. "Your Father realized he was being unfair not considering you, so he believed he could make amends. If all is well, he would think of whom to put on Asgard's throne."
"M-may I think on it?"
"You may." Frigga nodded.
"I… I will see you in the morning, Mother." Loki left quickly, unable to breathe.
Frigga knew that it was a great burden to put on the boy's shoulders, and Odin had made so many terrible decisions, but what was she to do? It only seemed like a logical solution to end all other past actions. It was a fair treatment. A strange way to go about making amends, but it was a huge step that Odin had done to show affection.
It was good enough for her.
But was it good enough for their sons?
oOo
Loki wanted peace of mind, not this.
He knew how to lead, he knew the rules by heart, the words and commands, yet the victory did not feel right nor complete. He had no idea if he should agree to take the throne and prove himself until Odin woke, or simply stay locked up in his room like a princess and wait for Thor to return. Out of the two, the latter seemed dull and impossible.
"I do not want this," He thought. "I truly do not want this."
Loki passed the hallways and bumped in his servant.
"Prince Loki," Erland said. "You do not look any better, are you well?"
"I'm fine." He said. "Excuse me."
Loki quickly left his servant, who eyed in out of curiosity and confusion. Loki rounded the corner and walked into his room and slammed it shut. He couldn't breathe. He could not even see straight. He walked over to the balcony and stared into the night. There was nothing beautiful in the scenery, it all felt like a burden.
"I'm never for the throne," He told himself. "Not here, not ever."
He paced.
"It is not fair. Why did he have to do this? Why? I do not want the throne. I do not want Thor thinking I stole it from him. I do not want… I do not know what I want."
He had an idea.
He looked over the balcony and eyed the crowd of people below. It was a giant drop down and Loki wasn't sure if he was ready to commit to such an act.
Was he truly that desperate to think of an escape?
"S-should I jump?" He debated. "I- I cannot do that to Thor."
He was lost on ideas.
All the thoughts swirled in his head and he could still hear the casket humming that strange song to him. No wonder it sang such a sad tune. Loki carefully sat on the floor and leaned on the balcony railing. He embraced his knees and tried to breathe carefully.
If he was King, what would happen if they found out he was not Aesir?
Asgard is full of traitors.
Loki closed his eyes and counted.
Your father is nothing but a coward that hides behind power! He is no more than a murderer and a thief.
Loki's breathing worsened.
He enslaves and ruins a single race and condemns them to the poorest realm in the nine! Is that how a King should act, with sacrifice and slander?
Loki knew what to do.
His plans have changed, and this time, he would not fail.
