Epilogue
I know I shouldn't have, but I follow them on their kind of 'first date' at the Miraflores Boardwalk. I still can't believe they followed me around all those museums for so long. Then again I never would have thought it would take the two of them so long to work out their feelings for each other. Granted I guess most of the holdup was Stone being stubborn because I know Cassandra had told him her feelings during that talk I eavesdropped on at her apartment.
Watching them walk along the boardwalk is mostly boring, but I need to make sure doesn't screw up again. They must be discussing something nice because Cassandra is finally smiling again. I don't know how she does it, but when that girl smiles she could light up the entire world with her exuberance. I'm really not sure that Stone deserves her, but he makes her smile the smile she had when she learned that Santa Claus was real.
I'm happy to see that Stone has finally found his courage because before I know it they're kissing in the middle of the boardwalk. I let them have a few moments before I decide I can't help myself, and start whistling and clapping.
"It's about time," I yelled from where I was watching the two of them on the boardwalk.
Stone scowling at me is the perfect reaction. I wouldn't want it any other way. I love that I fall somewhere in-between the role of little brother and friend with the two of them because it means they're never quite sure what to do with me. I don't know what Cassandra tells him when she takes his hand and smiles, but it seems to placate his mood. Before I know it they're walking away hand-in-hand again.
They're sweet together. It actually makes me ill they're so sweet, but at the same time I must be extremely awesome to have finally gotten them to admit their feelings for each other! I rule! I might be so awesome that I need an extra-large, extra cheese and double pepperoni pizza to celebrate. I wonder if I call Jenkins if he would open the back door for me?
Two days later the lovebirds finally make their way back into the Library looking just as sickenly sweet as they did when I left them in Peru.
I had left a little something for them on Cassandra's work station, so I watched from the top of the stairs for them to find it. I had found it in one of the markets I wandered through as I waited for Jenkins to open the back door for me. The moment I saw it I knew it would be the perfect gift for them.
"Jake, look at this," Cassandra giggled, when she saw it on the table.
"Who is it from?" Stone asked, looking over her shoulder to see what she had.
"That's the best part. Here read," she laughed.
Here's to love! From your most awesome friend, Ezekiel Jones read the inscription on the inside cover of the book; Love Poems by Pablo Neruda.
