My Semblance was a very handy tool, both intelligent and savvy, able to evolve as long as it's within the parameters of a game. But...

Well...

I could do without all the incidents...

I lifted my shield, protecting myself from another one of Yang's jab barrages. Her power felt more intense than before, most likely due to my last attack, whose damage she had absorbed and used for her own power. Her hair was already shining fiercely and pushing out intense heat like the sun in the middle of July.

And the impossible happened: she deflected my shield.

The impact of the blow was too strong for me to regain balance quickly, and her followup punch was already on its way, closer, closer, CLOSER.

I instinctively leaned my head to the left, dodging the punch with great ease-

I woke up on the ground with my HP half-depleted.

"Jaune!" a universal cry, with five very distinct voices blotting out the others. Team RWBY surrounded me, so did Pyrrha, who helped me sit up.

"What happened?" I asked, feeling a little groggy.

"We thought you could answer that, Gameboy," Yang said. "Everyone saw you dodge. Everyone! And... And suddenly it felt like I hit you and you got knocked out and..."

"Yang, it's okay," I said with a sigh. "I think I know what caused it."

"Really?"

"Yeah, it's my Semblance. At least this happened during a spar than a Grimm battle..."

Incident #2

I was late for class. I was just doing my routine nightly grinding and when I was on my last meditation before classes, I had essentially over-meditated for an hour.

It could've been funny, that I'd actually be prone to overmeditating like other people are to oversleeping, but because my first class was with Professor Goodwitch, the funny turned to dread in a hurry. Not even Gamer's Mind would keep me from fearing her. Her and that riding crop...

I swerved a corner and hit a brick wall.

No, not a brick wall, not really. It was an air wall.

"Oh come on! Really?!"

I feared what I was about to figure out, but I had to be sure it was what I think it was. And it was definitely an invisible wall, cutting off my shortcut to Professor Goodwitch's class. This was not good. Not good at all.

"Hey, Jaune!"

I looked behind me.

"Ruby? Shouldn't you be in class?"

She put her hands on her hips, one eyebrow raised. "Shouldn't you be too?"

"Point."

She nodded. "Permitted to use the restroom."

"Overslept."

God bless Ruby for not questioning my oversimplification and accepting it.

"Well, the later you are, the more trouble you'll be in, Jaune." She grabbed my hand... and took a runner's pose.

Oh no.

"Ruby, wait-"

Too late.

She shot off like a bullet, her Semblance making everything a blur for one split second before the invisible wall that only affected me due to my Semblance...

Yeah, it was not a pretty picture.

Despite getting hospitalized, with Ruby taking complete responsibility for everything, I still managed to get a 2-day detention with Professor Goodwitch once I was cleared and returned to school.

Talk about putting salt in the wound.

"Jaune?"

"Yeah, Pyrrha?"

"Uhm... Why... How... I mean... What are you-"

"Why am I halfway absorbed on our dorm wall?" I wiggled in place. Yup, still absorbed, still stuck.

"Yyyyyes?" She blinked, disturbed.

"Blame my Semblance."

She blinked again, this time out of bewilderment. "How does your Semblance-"

"Trust me, Pyrrha, you don't want to know."

After four hours of trying to figure out how to get myself out, Pyrrha told the faculty and made a spectacle out of my wall-extraction.

I suffered being called "Wally Jauney" for a week afterward.

Incident #4

"Jaune?"

"Yes, Blake?"

"Why are you kneeling in the hallway?"

I sighed and gave my usual excuse. "Semblance."

"Ah," she said as if it explained everything. A second later: "How?"

You know, I'd been trying to keep this little problem a secret, hoping that in time, I'd either work my way around them or my Semblance decided to correct these incidents itself. The former seems plausible, the latter doesn't. Over year after discovering my Semblance and I'm still learning something new about it.

And you know what else? I was tired of waving away the question. A fresh take on my predicament would be good, and I was glad it would be Blake I'm telling this to; I didn't trust the others to keep a straight face when I tell them. Especially Yang.

"Well," I said, staying on my kneeling position, "you know my Semblance revolves around gaming, right?"

"Yes."

"And it's prone to having some of the bullshittiest stuff?"

"Yes."

"This is one of them." I motioned to my still kneeling position. "You've already seen it happen before: when Yang missed but hit me anyway. When I got hospitalized looking like I'd hit an impenetrable wall at Mach 1. When I got stuck inside a wall for no reason."

"What... What's happening with your Semblance, Jaune?"

With horror in my eyes, I started walking. Only I stayed in my kneeling position, my legs never moving, but I was moving all the same, like a statue on wheels.

"My Semblance," I said gravely, "is glitching."
