Katie had just finished getting ready for her lunch with Elijah when she gets a text from him telling her to meet him at the grill. When she gets there, Elijah is no where to be seen but she spots Alaric, Damon and Andie sitting at a table. "Hey guys." She says as she sits down next to Alaric.
"Hey." They all reply.
"So what brings you here Katie?" Damon asks her.
"I'm meeting Elijah here for lunch." She simply says.
"Are you sure that's a good idea Katie." Alaric asks her.
"It's ok Alaric. Elijah isn't going to hurt me. It's not part of the deal."
Damon looks behind Katie and notices Elijah walking in with Jenna. "Ah, speak of the devil. There's Jenna with her new boyfriend." He signals them over. "So I hear you two had quite a meeting of historical minds."
"Yeah, you could say that." Jenna replies as she adjusts the strap of her bag.
Alaric chuckles and gets up from his seat. "Well as much as I'd like to continue this discussion, I've got papers I need to grade."
"We should continue this. Let's have a dinner party." Andie blurts out.
"Isn't my girl just full of good ideas. I'll be happy to host." Damon says as he puts his arm around Andie's shoulders. "Say tonight maybe."
"Tonight is good for me. How about you guys?" Andie asks the group.
Alaric tries to protest but Jenna stops him saying she was free to attend. Elijah states that it would be his pleasure to attend only if Katie is going.
"Sure I'll go." She replies.
Everyone leaves soon after that leaving only Elijah and Katie. "We should talk about what happened yesterday." Elijah tells her as he sits down opposite her.
"Yeah but first let's get something to eat, I'm starving."
They order their food and talk while they wait. "So…" Katie said, unsure of how to begin the conversation.
Elijah couldn't tell if Katie was nervous or uncomfortable. "Katie I apologise if the kiss made you uncomfortable that wasn't my intention."
Katie looked at him like he'd grown a second head. "No Elijah, it wasn't uncomfortable. I enjoyed our kiss." She meets his eyes as she continues. "I've never felt an instant connection to any guy before. I just don't know what to do."
Elijah reaches over and takes her hand. "I do like you Katie and if you wish to pursue this, I'd be happy to continue and if you don't then that is your decision."
Katie would like to be with Elijah but does not know what will happen after they get rid of Klaus. "Say we do continue whatever it is we have, what happens after we deal with Klaus if we survive. What if you leave town, I can't go with you. My family is here. I couldn't leave them."
Elijah squeezes her hand reassuringly. "Do not worry Katie. After Klaus is dealt with, I will be leaving town for a short while but I do intend on coming back."
Katie sighs in relief, her decision already made. "Ok then but we take things slow."
"Agreed." Elijah replies. Their food arrives and they talk about other things until they are finished and they pay. Elijah drives her home and walks her to the front door. "I guess I will see you at the dinner party."
"Yeah." They lean in for a kiss but are interrupted by the door opening.
"Oh hey Elijah. Thanks for bringing Katie home." Jenna says as she notices the couple.
"My pleasure Jenna. I shall see you both at the party tonight." He then gets into his car and drives away.
Later on, Jenna receives a call from Andie asking if she and Katie could come over to help set up things. Jenna and Katie agree and get ready then head over to the Salvatore house.
As they are setting out plates and cutlery, Andie asks Jenna how things are going between her and Alaric.
"I don't know. I really like him, well it's more than like and I want it to work but I feel like he's hiding something from me. It doesn't help that I've got John whispering things in my ear about him."
"Like what?" Andie asks.
"Things I don't want to believe, especially if they're coming ot of John's mouth."
"Trust is the key to any relationship. I am so grateful that Damon tells me everything."
Katie wanted to laugh at that but kept quiet to herself.
"So Katie. What is up with you and Elijah?" Andie asks Katie.
"What do you mean?" Katie replies as she puts down a glass.
"I've seen the way you two look at each other. It reminds of Damon and I."
Jenna was curious about this herself.
Katie didn't want to say that her and Elijah had agreed to take things slow. She wanted to wait a few weeks before they told people. "I'm helping him do research for his book nothing more."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I'm sure."
Andie leaves so she can talk to Damon, ending their discussion or so she thought. "Andie's right. You two look at each other, like you're in love." Jenna tells her niece.
Katie looks at her aunt. "He's hot but I don't think he's interested in me like that."
"I wouldn't say that. He might be a little older than you but he seems like a good guy." The doorbell rings and Jenna goes to answer it.
Katie wonders if, despite what Jenna just told her, would she approve of their relationship. Having Jenna's approval would mean the world to her because if she didn't then she doesn't know what she would do. She is broken out of her thoughts by her Aunt Jenna's voice.
"Who invited him?"
Katie turns around and sees John walking. Oh no. This is gonna be bad.
Damon then walks into the room. "John. What a surprise. Leave."
"Jenna told me that her and Katie were coming to a party for Elijah, I decided that I couldn't miss out on the fun games." He replies.
"Listen Uncle John. It's just a simple dinner party. Nothing more, so please, if you're staying please don't cause any trouble." Katie pleads with him.
"Ok fine."
Everything is now set up and they are now waiting on the guest of honour. The doorbell rings and this time Damon answers it. Elijah is standing on the other side. "Good evening."
"Thank you for coming. Please do come in." Damon replies, being the perfect host.
"Just one moment." Elijah says before he comes in. "Can I just say that if you have less than honourable intentions about how this evening is going to proceed then I suggest you reconsider."
"No nothing dishonourable. Just getting to know you."
"That's good because even though I have a deal with Katie and Elena, if you so much as make a move to cross me, I'll kill you and everyone in this house, with the exception of Katie. Are we clear?"
Damon nods his head in agreement as Katie walks into the room. Elijah smiles at her. "Katie you look incredible." He says as he approaches, takes her hand and kisses it.
"Thank you Elijah, so do you."
Damon watches the interaction between the two and decides it has to be tonight. Katie is in even more danger by being this close to Elijah. "Ok everyone else is waiting. Let's eat."
He escorts them into the dining room and soon everyone is eating good food and drinking great wine. Even Katie has some wine, with Jenna's permission.
"So Damon," Jenna says as she pours Damon some wine, "I hate to break it to you but according to Elijah, your family is so not a founder of this town."
"Hmm. Do tell."
"Well, as I mentioned to Jenna earlier, a faction of settlers migrated from Salem after the witch trials in the 1690s. They developed this community where they could be safe from the persecution." Elijah explains.
"Really I didn't know that." Katie says.
"But there's no tangible proof that there were witches in Salem." Andie points out.
"Andie's a journalist." Damon explains to Elijah. "Big on facts."
"Well, the lore says there was this wave of anti witch hysteria that broke out in the neighbouring settlement. So these witches were rounded up. They were tied to stakes in a field and burned." Katie grimaces at this. "Some say you could hear the screams for miles as they were consumed by the fire."
"I wouldn't repeat this to the historical society."
Everyone laughs at Jenna's comment.
"This is starting to sound like a ghost story to me." John says.
"So," Damon says, ignoring John's comment, "why do you the locations of these so called massacres?"
"A healthy historian's curiosity of course." He replies.
"Would anyone care for some cognac? I have a bottle I've been saving for ages."
"No thanks," Alaric replies, "Nine bottles of wine is my limit."
"And I'm underage." Katie replies.
Everyone gets up from the table. "The gentlemen should take their drinks in the study." Andie states.
"I have to say the food was almost as wonderful as the company." Elijah says looking at Katie.
He then follows Damon out of the room. John goes to follow but is stopped by Jenna. "You're not a gentleman. Make yourself useful." She says, shoving dirty dishes into his arms.
He walks out carrying the dishes. Alaric offers to help the girls as well but Jenna blows him off and walks away with Katie.
Meanwhile, in the study, Damon is pouring himself and Elijah a drink. They discuss the ritual. With Elijah's back turned, Damon prepares to use the dagger but before he can, Alaric bursts into the room. "Gentlemen, we forgot about dessert."
Andie escorts Elijah to dining room where Jenna, Katie and John are. "Sorry guys. Dessert is taking longer than I thought. I usually just unwrap food." Jenna goes into the kitchen with Katie to deal with dessert.
"So I know this is a social thing but I'd really love to ask you some questions about the work you're doing." Andie asks Elijah.
"I'd love to answer."
"Great. Ric would you do me a favour and grab the notebook out of my bag?" She asks as Damon and Alaric walk back into the room.
"Elijah, did John tell you that he Elena and Katie's uncle/father?" Damon asks the original.
"Yes I'm well aware of that."
"Of course, they hate him, so there's no need to keep him on the endangered species list." He says looking at John.
Andie notices Alaric can't find her notebook and gets up to help him.
"What I'd like to know Elijah is how you intend on killing Klaus." John asks Elijah.
"Gentlemen, there's a few things we should get clear right now." He points at Damon. "I allow you to live solely to keep an eye on Katie and Elena. I allow them to remain in their house living their life with their friends as they requested. If you become a liability, I'll take them away and you'll never see them again."
Andie comes back and begins to question Elijah. Before she can finish her first question, Alaric stabs Elijah with the dagger. After Elijah is rendered unconscious, Alaric put the dagger on the table. "Now get rid of him before Jenna and Katie come back with desert."
Alaric and Damon quickly move Elijah's body to the basement. Jenna and Katie come back with desert. "Where is everyone?" Katie asks.
"They're having drinks in the study." Andie replies.
Sometime later, the dinner party is finished. Jenna and Katie head home with Alaric. Katie goes to bed but texts Elijah that she'll see him tomorrow.
Back at the Salvatore house. Damon dumps Elijah's body in the basement for a second time with Stefan and Elena watching. "So that's it. As long as we keep the dagger in there, he stays dead." Elena asks.
"Pretty much."
"And Katie doesn't know you've done this?"
"No she doesn't."
"Good. I think it would be best if we say Elijah left town for a while. If she found out the truth, she'd hate us all."
Everyone agreed and left Elijah in the cold, dark basement.
I have to once again apologise for taking so long to update this. I really don't have a good excuse. I'm going start updating weekly now and I'll be working on my other stories. Feel free to review and let me know what you thought.
