Loki pulls a very bad prank but it's Thor with whom Frigga gets the most angry with.

Chapter 3: Brothers Forgive

Loki did not like Sif, this Frigga knew. She also knew the reason of course, as any mother knows why their children behave the way they do. Loki no doubt would deny it, so young of age and already very stubborn, but the boy envied the little girl. He envied the fact that she was not mocked but admired for being skilled at the arts of her opposing gender. He envied the fact that she could best him in a match. But most of all he envied the fact that Thor simply forgot about him in favor of being with her.

She made sure to sigh in disappointment when she stood in front of the young boy, he sat still with dried tears. While she understood his concerns it still did not make what he did right, so she let it show.

"I just finished talking to Sif."

It had not been easy to calm the girl, so hysterically crying that her hair was no longer a large mane or gold. Asgardian hair was difficult to cut with just any scissors, Loki had clearly used magic to do so but by the looks of it he had not expected it to turn dark.

"Her hair will not turn golden again."

She smiled in gratitude when she saw a small flinch on his part. That was good, if he showed visible signs of regret then he could be persuaded into formally apologizing.

"Loki, what you did was wrong. You know that right?" she asked offering a gentle smile. He sat silently still, scared, "Loki. Sif was devastated. She still cries. Do you feel joy from that?"

Silence once more, though this time she could detect a small tremble in his lip. She knew how much he truly regretted his actions, but she needed to make him understand the severity of them.

"Loki, what you just did; it is as if someone had taken away the covers you so like of your favorite books. She loved her hair very much. So please understand that you need to apologize to her."

Finally the little boy began to cry once more, "I didn't mean for her hair to do that. I just wanted to play a prank on her...I-I-I tried to make it better but-but Thor. h-he-."

"I know Loki, I know." she reached down to take him into her arms, "But you must understand that you need to say you're sorry to Sif herself. And you must go a month without your books, that is your punishment and you must learn from it. Understand?"

The boy sniffled and cried against her, nodding slowly. She brought her hand to his temple letting the small healing magic numb the pain of the bruises.

"It's alright, just go in to explain it to her. I'll be with you the whole time."

It wasn't easy, Sif had yelled at Loki and both children had cried some more. But in the end Sif acknowledged his apology, even apologized herself after seeing Loki's bruises. Frigga was proud that her youngest had been so mature as to realize the error of his ways. So that was one child down and one to go.

She found Thor sitting in the garden ripping grass out of the ground in frustration. She smiled when she approached him, ever patient.

"He has apologized to her." she stated, her eldest child continued to rip the grass.

She sighed in exasperation, this was going to be a little more difficult, "Thor I understand that you were defending your friend but your reaction was unjustified."

"How was it unjustified?!" Thor spat out.

Frigga did not react to the comment, she merely observed quietly. Her disappointment in Thor was different from her disappointment in Loki. Because of two reasons: first being that while Loki had done something wrong he had not physically harmed Sif, second was that he had regretted his actions. This was not going on with Thor: the boy took after his father's, at times, uncontrollable anger.

"Because it was not right to hit your brother, who is weaker than you, when he was in tears trying to re-attach Sif's hair."

It was true, while Loki did not instantly apologize he did try to reattach her hair when he saw it turn dark. That was Loki, he never understood what his actions might cause but he knew when he made a terrible mistake. Thor on the other hand, so young and already he believed only in punishment.

"Why not!?" Thor stood up his knuckles suddenly white, "He still made her cry! He hurt her! He knew how much she loved her hair!"

"And he has apologized." Frigga stated firmly, "Thor I know you want justice but you have to understand what kind of justice one must deliver."

She observed a small bowing of his head before continuing, "You need to learn that not every wrong is punishable with fists. Sometimes it is resolved with words. And I think now is a good time for that, you need to apologize to your brother."

"No! I will do no such thing!"

Frigga hardened her jaw in frustration, damn that Odinson pride.

"That's enough Thor! You will apologize to your brother!"

"No, if he's going to be doing this to my friend I don't want to see him ever again!"

"Thor enough!"

"I don't ever want to be near him again!"

"Thor stop it!"

"He is no brother of mine!"

Frigga's mind went blank for a second as did Thor's. The next thing he knew was that his head was turned and he felt a small burn in his cheek. His mother's raised hand was a clear sign of being hit by her. He stepped back a little with his mouth opened slightly, never in all his young years had his mother hit him.

Frigga stood gasping before reaching down and shaking Thor by the shoulders, "Don't you say that! Don't you ever say that again! Do you hear me!?"

Thor stood frozen with wide eyes, Frigga noticing this immediately slumped her shoulders and looked away before taking Thor into her arms.

"I'm so sorry child." She whispered, "I'm sorry. But you can't say that dear. You can't say that!"

Her tears were what pulled Thor out of his shock, he had never seen her cry like this before. She was not meant to be sad, he didn't like making her said. He wrapped his arms around her in an attempt to comfort her. If something his father had taught him it was to never make a woman cry, and if done so you must apologize immediately. Suddenly he realized: that was something Loki had clearly done, not verbally but when he was trying to reattach Sif's hair. He understood now why his mother said it was wrong: he was being unjust. And in turn he hurt her and Loki, two people he cared about. He had to fix it.

"Mother, don't cry." he whispered soothingly when she pulled away, "I understand now. I'll go apologize to Loki. So please don't cry."

Despite the cold feeling in her gut Frigga managed to smile at her son's words. "Promise?" she asked.

"Yes, you were right. I should not have treated him like that." he said, proud that his mother was smiling.

"Very well dear, you go to him now."

"Will you be alright?"

"Yes my dear. Just go."

She made sure to smile so as to erase his doubt from leaving. He only did so after kissing her in the cheek, to which she chuckled. She then waved him off and, once he was far enough, broke down into more tears. Norns help her and her family.

"Loki!" Thor called at Loki's door.

"Go away!" he heard in muffled sniffing.

"Loki, please open up." he begged.

"I already apologized to Sif! Leave me alone!"

Thor sighed in regret and leaned his cheek against the door, "Loki, I understand now. I too made a mistake...I shouldn't have hit you. I'm sorry."

His words were mumbled but he was sure Loki had heard, he could tell by how he started to sob. He knew then that he didn't want to hear Loki make those sounds again, especially not because of him.

"Loki, I truly am sorry." he called again, "Will you forgive me?"

"No!"

"Please."

"No!"

"Can I hug you?"

"No!"

"I'm sorry."

"No!"

Thor laughed this time, "That wasn't even something you should say no to!" He knew his little brother was just being stubborn now, but Thor really had hurt him so he wanted to do something to make it all better.

"Loki." he drawled, "Won't you forgive me?"

"No!"

"What if I take you to The Wall."

He heard Loki sniffle once more before he whimpered, "You would do that?"

Thor smiled at the question, remembering how Loki wanted nothing more than to go to The Wall. But his brother, being so small, couldn't climb onto it. Thor was planning to help him up there on his name day, but that was still far away. Besides, Loki needed it right now.

"Of course." he whispered, "So please don't be sad anymore...I shouldn't have made you sad...I love you little brother."

He waited for a while, not knowing what was Loki's reaction but he was soon rewarded with Loki opening the door and rushing into his arms. Thor wasted no time in hugging him back, he was never making Loki cry again that was for sure. He remembered those nights in which Loki would sneak into his room and cry, how could he have forgotten that he hated seeing him like that? He was his little brother, and he was going to protect him.

He gently pulled Loki away and helped wipe his tears before leading him excitedly to The Wall in the gardens. The Wall was no more than a small stone hedge for an adult but not for a child, hence their name for it. It was up here that only Thor, being more physically able, could climb up. From it he could see the rest of the gardens followed by all of Asgard, something Loki had always wanted to see. He reached the top without difficulty before reaching down for Loki's hand and wasted no time in pulling him up. Enjoying the fact that Loki was back to trusting him. He felt with joy when he saw all the sadness evaporate from Loki as the younger child took in all of Asgard for the first time.

Loki marvelled at the sight before him and the warmth of his brother, now hugging him. He felt more at ease, knowing that even if Thor hurt him he would still apologize. He knew he would still be loved by him.

That of course didn't stop him from pushing Thor and see him fall back.

"Loki!" Thor yelled from his position on the ground, pouting when Loki showed him his tongue, "I'll get you for that!"

He climbed up once more but missed Loki who began to walk away carefully on the hedge. Walking on it was a different thing, so Thor did so carefully as well.

"Just you wait! I'll get you for this you little prankster!"

Loki laughed as he was chased, very slowly, on the wall as the two tried to keep their balance.
