Blended Chapter 19

Jax decided not to go after Cortney and sat back down to finish his dinner. He didn't really know what to expect when he confessed his love for her. However, he did know that it was about time she knew his feelings for her. He knew he had hurt her deeply and he did not know if he would ever be able to seal up the hole she left in her heart. He did plan on trying. Jax sat alone at the table and quietly ate his food. Instead of throwing the dish in the sink with the other dirty dishes, he took the time to load the dishwasher and start it. He slowly walked up the stairs checked on his boys and Steven and stood at Cortney's doorway. She was in the bed engrossed in her TV show.

"Do you want me to sleep in the next room Cort?"

Cortney pulled her attention from the show and looked over at Jax.

Cortney shook her head no with a little frown.

"Why would I want you to sleep in the other room? You have been sleeping in here with me." Cortney moved the covers back for him. Jax peeled off his clothes except his boxers and hopped in the bed with her.

"You still watching Scandal?"

"No. How to Get Away with Murder" she answered looking over at him and unconsciously scooting closer to him. Jax wrapped his arm around her and pulled her even closer to him.

"Did I upset you earlier with what I told you?"

"No. It just caught me off guard. I didn't expect to hear those words from you." She whispered.

"By the way I treated you I can see why you would think that." Jax caressed Cortney's cheeks and then her lips. "How can I make it up to you?"

"You can't make it up to me. What's done is done. If you love me like you say you do we can try to start over and start fresh."

Jax nodded as his eyes gazed at her lips.

"I would like that. I promise I won't hurt you again."

Cortney shook her head.

"Jax that is something no one can promise but you can try your best not to hurt me again."

"I will try my best." He agreed as he leaned over and captured her lips. As Cortney opened her mouth to receive Jax she hoped he would not shatter her heart again. Cortney sighed as he found her neck with his tongue, she knew Jax was a risk she was willing to take. Jax started to pull Cortney's shirt off. She stopped him. As bad as she wanted him she was not ready to give herself to him just yet.

"Cortney please." He begged as continue to kiss her neck. Cortney pulled back and looked into his blue eyes. They were full of lust with a hint of pain in them. She figured he probably had a serious case of blue balls. Smiling to herself, she told him to lie back. She would take care of him. Crawling down his body, she pulled down his boxers, took him in her mouth and smiled when she heard a loud moan escape his lips.

Jax rolled over to pull Cortney closer and found the bed was empty. He slowly got up and looked over at the clock. It was about seven thirty in the morning. Shaking the sleep off him, he went looking for her and found her in the boy's room getting them dress.

"Where are you heading?" he asked as he picked up Thomas and planted a kiss on his chubby cheeks.

"Taking Abel to his first day of preschool."

It came flooding back to Jax that Tara had enrolled Abel into preschool.

"That's right. Tara did enroll him."

"Yeah…Gemma doesn't think it's a good idea…but I think it would be good for him to interact with other kids. He has been so quiet lately since…you know." Cortney looked at Abel who was staring off at the wall seeming to not pay attention to their conversation.

"Let me know how it goes." Jax told her as he leaned over, gave Abel a kiss on the forehead, and then leaned in a planted a soft kiss on Cortney's lips. Cortney frowned a little and glanced at Abel. His focus had turned to them both. Cortney did not think it was a good idea for Jax and her to show affection in front of Abel and Thomas. They just lost their mother again. They should not see their father kissing another woman so soon no matter her and Jax's history. Cortney made a mental note to talk to Jax later about the subject.

Cortney pulled up in the drop off line at the preschool and a blonde woman open the back door for Abel.

"Good Morning!" She smiled a big smile at Abel as she unhooked his car seat.

"Are you the nanny?" she asked Cortney. Cortney suddenly felt light headed as she felt her blood pressure rise. Who the fuck asks that in 2014? She might have well used the term mammy. Cortney put on the best smile she could muster but she could feel it came across strain.

"No….a family friend." She tried so hard not to snap.

"I'm Ms. Harrison I will be one of Abel's teachers." She told Cortney as she pulled Abel out the booster seat.

"Nice to meet you Ms. Harrison. I'm Ms. Holmes."

"Are you listed on the emergency contacts and the pickup eligible list?" Ms. Harrison shut the car door and walked up to the passenger window.

"You know I don't think I am but I will make sure either his grandmother or father comes up here today to take care of that."

"Ok. We will see you later then."

"Bye Abel." Cortney blew a kiss to Abel before driving off. Cortney picked up her phone to dial Gemma to get over to the preschool to put her on whatever list she needed to be put on so she can pick up Abel later.

"Why the hell does it look like you took a bath in a tub of dirt?" Steven asked his best friend as they both leaned against their bikes standing outside the garage.

"Man you wouldn't believe me if I told you." Joseph said as he shook his head to free some of the dirt in his hair.

"Try me."

Joseph explained to Steven about the escapade the Sons had earlier which had them burying a few bodies in Chigger woods. Actually, Joseph was doing most of the digging and Happy and Tig kept fucking with him throwing dirt in his hair and all over his clothes.

"A preacher? He was dressed in what?"

"Lingerie. I'm glad I was not in the room. I had to keep look out but from what I was told it was a sight to be seen."

"Man do I miss prospecting." Steven sighed.

"Well at least you don't have to hide your bike and the time you spend with us anymore."

Steven nodded. That was true. His mom was more lenient with him hanging out with Jax and the guys now that he was not an official prospect. She did have a fit for a few moments about the Harley but she finally conceded in letting him keep it and parked at her house. She didn't want him driving it to school though.

"I miss having you by my side every day." Joseph told Steven pulling him into a hug. "We will be sidekicks again when school starts back after winter break. You will get tired of looking at me then. Come on lets go the movies or something."

"You need to take a bath first!" Steven laughed as he tousled dirt out of his best friend's hair.

To get rid of the heroin that Jax and the club took from the Chinese, Jax was able after a couple of days to get a sit down with Tully in Stockton prison a high ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Jax did not want to think of all the things he had to do to even get in the man's presence when he did his stint in prison. Tully told Jax that his outside man Leland Gruen would have to see the products and he would make the final decision. Back at the clubhouse Jax brought the club up to speed just before Chucky knocked on the door to tell the club that Tyler was there to see them.

"Jax man…things are not looking to good. Three Chinese massage parlors got hit last night by black guys. Lin thinks it was us and wants blood." Tyler told Jax.

"Was it you?" Jax asked with a small smirk. He knew it wasn't the Niners as he had put the Grim Bastards up to the task.

"Hell naw it wasn't us and August is spinning out. He's afraid before he closes this deal on Piedmont the streets will blow up. It's a huge government housing project."

"Is that the project where his partner is missing?" Jax asked as he took a puff of his cigarette.

"Yeah…his name is Haddem he is a pastor over at Piedmont Grace church. August needs his signature by the end of the day tomorrow before Lin retaliates and his investors become ghost."

"Preacher won't sign?"

"He just dropped out of sight a few days ago and now his old lady is missing. She has power of attorney and can sign off on everything. August thinks she will be easier to locate."

Jax stubbed out his cigarette. Jax knew exactly what happen to the preacher and his day just became officially fucked.

"What do you want from us?" Jax asked.

"We need you to locate his wife Loutreesha. Piedmont likes their pastors black but their residents to be just a little paler.

Jax smiled. "You need some pretty white boys to knock on some doors for you?"

"Something like that." Tyler was really worried. He gave them all the information he had on Loutreesha, her maiden name, her sisters and other family members. Jax got up from the seat.

"Alright Ty…we got you covered." Jax pulled Tyler into a hug "We will do some digging and let you know."

Tyler dapped everyone before he left. Jax sat back down, sighed and rubbed his fingers through his hair. This was some total cosmic universe bullshit!

"Well it's a small fuckin world after all." Tig could not believe their luck.

"Were going to have to find the wife before Marks keeps digging and finds the preacher." Bobby said.

"Where do we start looking?" Chibs asked Jax.

"Chigger Woods. We are going to ask the preacher. Someone call the prospect and have him meet us out there. He can do the digging." Jax laughed thinking of the torture Joseph would have to go through digging up rancid dead bodies.

Jax and Tig watched over Rat Boy and Happy dig up the body. Where was Joseph?

"Yo!" Joseph yelled finally showing up scuffling through the woods with Steven close behind.

"Where the hell have you been?" Jax barked at Joseph.

"We were downtown when you called. It took us a minute to get here." Joseph tried to explain.

"What are you doing here Steven?" Jax walked up to Steven trying to keep him from coming any closer and seeing the grave.

Joseph was pulled in the hole by Happy who handed him his shovel.

"Take over grunt." He growled as he and Rat Boy crawled out of the hole.

Jax grabbed Steven by the arm to pull him away from the shallow gravesite.

"You should not be here!" Jax was becoming a tad annoyed.

"Come on Jax. It's not like I don't know all the shit that goes down."

"Yeah…knowing and seeing are two different things Steven. We discussed this. You are not a part of this." Jax ushered Steven to his car.

"You know I am kind of immune to this shit. It doesn't bother me anymore. You saw something in me in the beginning and you know you were right."

Jax shook his head. "That doesn't matter now. I promise your mom you will not be a part of the Sons."

"I don't have to be a prospect…just let me help out when I can….come on Jax…I miss prospecting."

"I get it Steven….just not here. Go home. Tell Cort I will be home as soon as I can. I want to put the kids to bed tonight." The past couple of days he and Cortney kept missing each other. She and the boys were usually sleep when he got home and gone when he woke up. He missed them.

Steven knew there was no way in hell he was going to be back in time to put the boys to bed. He was not telling his mom anything just to see disappointment on her face when Jax did not show up.

"Alright I will see you later." Steven opened his car door with the back seat full of shopping bags.

"Shopping spree?"

"It's for mom….her birthday is coming up. Some of this is for your mom."

"What did mom want?"

"Just a few odds and ins she asked me to pick up since I was downtown by the shops."

"How did she know you were downtown?" Jax asked.

Steven shrugged his shoulders.

"What is this twenty questions? I guess mom told her."

Jax grabbed Steven's arm before he could climb into his car.

"When is Cort's birthday?" Jax started to panic. He could not forget her birthday.

Steven smiled. "I'll tell you if you let me hang out more."

"You want to hang out here?" Jax asked squinting his nose.

"Good God no! Smells like straight ass back there. Yall do you. I will see you guys another time." Steven got in the car, shut the door, pulled his keys out and started the car,

"Cort's Bday? " Jax asked again before Steven rolled up the window and drove off flashing him the deuces sign. Smart Ass! Jax was going to give him hell when he sees him at the house later.
